People, I’ve just got to say that I’ve been really disappointed not to see any coverage or discussion on this or any of my other favorite progressive blogs about Diane Feinstein resigning from her military affairs subcommittee seat in the face of allegations that she funneled lucrative military contracts to her husband’s company. To me, this sheds light on her hostility toward Carol Lam, and also illustrates that the Dems can be just as corrupt in the service of the soulless corporate/military/industrial complex as the Repugs. But it was very humiliating to me, and damaged my ongoing narrative about media coverage, to have learned of this from a wingnut friend, who is now using it to prove his argument that Feinstein didn’t get negative media coverage because she is a Dem and the media is liberal. Why has Firedoglake been silent about this story?

Man, this having to work for a living really crimps my blogging style. EPU’ed again. Sigh.

well, usually you figure you’re safe posting in the #100 range…

Thanks Christy. This is grinding my favorite wheel about the electronic press…what I’ve observed in the corporate world in general and the press specifically over the last decade—and it keeps getting worse—is a fear of screwing up the revenue for this quarter and this year. Whatever you can do to keep things even and not rock the boat, so your numbers don’t take a hit in the next reporting period, is good. Anything that causes—or threatens—potential negative consequences for this quarter’s revenue is bad. So producers and executives push (or direct) that everyone walk that nice neutral middle ground…which, in our world today, is right of center. It’s the *safe* position for these people and their business.

It’s all about selling cars and loans and household goods. It’s not about informing the public and holding our country to a high standard of fairness and honesty and civil rights. Sales first; information second.

Weird - I don’t see anything about the subpoenas posted at Conyers’ site, nor on TPM. Conyers’ website indicates he in Louisiana this morning:

Tuesday 04/10/2007 - 10:00 AM
Lawless Memorial Chapel, Dillard University, 2601 Gentilly Blvd., New Orleans, LA
Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security
“The Katrina Impact on Crime and the Criminal Justice System in New Orleans”
Field Hearing in New Orleans, Louisiana By Direction of the Chairman

link from the US House Committee on Judiciary & Oversight

IANAL - but my look at the USA/NOLA office makes me suspicious. Course, Katrina’s waves could be the ‘culprit’.

Recent activity:
http://www.usdoj.gov/usao/lae/press/index.html

I find the attitude of major media somewhat analogous to the music industry. They are so convinced that they know what’s best for everyone else that they can’t see the forest through their own greed.

Gonzo’s becoming quite the weight hanging from the neck of this administration, methinks he’ll be gone by week’s end. Given the shit that’s hitting the fan this week (and it’s only Tuesday!), wouldn’t the Bushies rather have an ex-administration official testifying in Congress next week?

Assuming there’s no one lined up to take his place, perhaps Abu doesn’t have permission to resign yet.

A loyal Bushie to the end.
