The Connecticut Post has had quite enough:
He has to assume no one is paying attention. Otherwise, there's no way Joe Lieberman could maintain his record of dissembling, prevarication and misrepresentation he's been peddling about Iraq for the past four years.
His new statements flatly contradict his old ones. He tells us things are finally turning around — but he said that a year ago, and two years ago. He has no credibility left.
Hard to pull out a key graf in this excellent piece, but this one stands out:
Among the senator's more ingratiating habits is his constant name-dropping. Listen the next time he's on a Sunday-morning talk show how often he mentions his agreement with former media darling John McCain. Now his affections have moved on to Lt. Gen. David Petraeus, the recently promoted leader of U.S. forces in Iraq. The mere mention of McCain or Petraeus is apparently supposed to put the sheen of credibility on even the most outrageous statement.
But his biggest offense is seeking to end debate on the most bitterly divisive issue in a generation. "General Petraeus says he will be able to see whether his plan is succeeding by the end of the summer. Let us declare a truce in the Washington war until then. For the next six months, let us instead come together around a constructive legislative agenda for our security, " he says.
Just sit back and see what happens, he says — let people continue dying, let the country continue to spend billions of dollars each month. It's a profoundly unserious proposition to ask that Americans, four years into what was promised to be a quick and easy victory, would suddenly stop questioning just what in the world we're accomplishing over there. It defies every instinct of a democratic society.
??
?
Haven't seen a poll of HoJo's approval ratings in CT since the election, but they can't be good. His love of antagonizing liberal bloggers really does spit in the face of everyone who swallowed his bullshit line about "nobody wants to bring the troops home more than me" and pulled the lever for him in November.
Ever wonder why every time Henry Waxman sends out a subpoena or asks a pointed question about Republican criminality and corruption, the same thing isn't happening in the Senate? Well, because non-Democrat Joe Lieberman is making sure it isn't from his choice appointed perch as Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
Wouldn't it be nice if Harry Reid would catch up with the State of Connecticut by, say, 2008, and humiliates the little prick by appointing him to empty the Senate trashcans or something other appropriate to the only Connecticut for Lieberman party member elected to that august body?
I doubt we'll stop caring.
Update: Wonder what HoJo has to say about his BFF Don Imus?

I think.
Am I the first to comment?
Hey Jane!
Who is Joe Leiberman *actually* working for?
So CAN Lieberman be relieved of his committee positions since he was not elected as a democrat?
Dang! I read the post first.
Joe Lieberman is so foul I wouldn’t even let him kiss my a$$.
Too bad CT doesn’t have a senatorial lemon law.
WTF? Isn’t there anything the state of Connecticut can do about Joe?
Not only his he stopping any investigations into the Bush admin but will not let the investigation into Katrina begin. What a DICK!!!!!!!!!!
Turn Coat. Traitor. Jessibel. Whore. Mealy mouthed son of a bitch. Whiner. Wiener.
Esau Lieberman sold his birthright as a Democrat and a democrat for the opportunity to put on the cloak of BushCo.
Shame on him.

Last I heard, Lieberman isn’t even a member of the party he started.
Annoyin little fuck ain’t he?
Does anyone remember seeing a report that the Connecticut vote count in 2006 was exactly the same, to the last number, as that of (I think) 2004?
SusanD @ 11
Even they don’t want him?
LS@13
Yup. That has always smelled like “Rove Math” to me.
So Jane, did you like the Sopranos last night?
Joe and his Big-Pharm lobbyist wife, Haddasa, have the big bucks rolling in and they plan to ride that gravy train no matter what…
Nope, Betsy. I remember reading about some guy actually making himself head of CFL.
Bet if Lieberliar applied he’d get rejected.
Unless they start *another* new party and name it “Connecticut for Liars”.
Liebermann it’s time for you to encourage your own children to sign up for the military and take the trip to Iraq. Anything less is hollow.
Bob Woodward is fluffing his “groupthink” “much to do about nothing” feathers on http://www.c-span.org/Cspans
THe House Dems are showing they know what needs to be done, even if Joe is sitting on his butt in the Senate. From the CS Monitor:

All of the above. Remember Mel Sembler did a little fundraising for Holy Joe.
What I hate is how local journalists *still* use language like “pain in the neck”. It doesn’t even begin to capture the corruption of that man. I will never forget the incredibly corrupt campaign HoJoe ran, flyers in parking lots, probable vote buying, Republikan thugs bussed in from out of state, missing cash and so on. That is not “scold” or “pain in the neck.” It is downright scumbaggery.

Good on the CT Post. It blows my mind that he was re-elected at all. Party of one, indeed.
tommy yum @ 29
Through KKKarl and the Chimpy, most of the republic vote went for him.
An additional problem for the Iraqis, just in case they needed one, according to CNN they are now taking anti-depressents, mixing cough syrup with barbituates, and using more Vi*gra at ever increasing levels. Imagine living in that hell.
Everyday I still cannot believe how this government has declined. LIEberman is but one lossy instigator. Today for some reason I am beside myself. It was the Professor Walter F. Murphy situation with the No Fly List thingie that pushed me over the edge yesterday. Now I wonder if I can get back to my elderly parents if they may need help. I did after all demonstrate many times against this horrid war.
The civics lessons I learned as a child are so ingrained in me that I flinch when I learn of the twisted garbage that is being done in the name of my country.
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have no doubt that Joe Lieberman’s prick is very, very small. Poor Hadassah.
but can lieberman really handle running for vp again? I figure it’s a “3rd party” mccain/lieberman ticket now …
Betsy @ 9
His second wife, Hadassah, is a Pharma lobbyist. Didn’t know he had been divorced until I went to read his wiki to verify the info about Hadassah.
Betsy @ 5
It’s a problem of numbers. Joe’s living large because there’s still too many Republics in the Senate.
Assuming Karl Rove has a complete dossier on every member of Congress’ every financial move, every phone call, and every website visited, I think Joe is simply being blackmailed
It will be interesting to see the contortions Joe twists into in 2008.
The Goopers are heading for the endangered species list and Ol’ Joey is going to be wanting in on the winning team.
That would be a prime opportunity to slam a few doors in his face, repeatedly.
Betsy @

Well, many believe he works for his other nationality before he works for the US, but not just that nationality, for the Netanyahu/Ariel Sharon Nasties part of Israeli politics. It is thought this explains his French-kissing of Bush, Bush having been conned by the self-same gang’s allies in the US, PNAC/WHIG/The Lobby, into fighting Israel’s proxy war — dismantling Iraq. The problem has been that they could not remotely conceive that Bush’s Rummy pal could so screw up the ensuing Occupation, leaving them with a pontetially horrendous strategic nightmare and utterly ungoverned/ungovernable Iraq.
Mary McCurnin @ 32

I think Joe probably once said something like that about you, too. Yet another mistake on his part.
Be afraid, Joe. This “lightweight” is not done with you yet.
Everybody except the Republican voters who popped out of Mel Sembler’s goodie bag back then.
Hope the kneepads stay comfy.
It sure would be special if some committee could get past Lieberman’s bottleneck at Homeland Security/Governmental Affairs to shed a little light on the Katrina lead-up and response, too.
Joe is Zell Miller without the accent… or WITH the accent, depending upon where you’re from…
Harry Reid simply MUST strip him of all seniority and perks… let him become a Republican… see how he likes life at the very bottom of their totem pole…
He must not be allowed to pull a Zell Miller at the 2008 RNC convention… if that happens, it’ll be on Harry Reid…

So I use it for storage, and do my microwaving in one that works.
And the CT Post is no left wing rag, by any stretch of the imagination. God, why did it take so long for the story of the real Joe Lieberman to be told?
Poor Iraqis- whenever they cough they get a hardon.
ThatSinger @ 44
In the spirit of my earlier comment re DOJ “sleepers,” firewall Lieberman.
kathleen @ 28
No I know I am not afraid to *say* it. I don’t think it was at all constructive during the Lamont campaign to say so. And I’ve always hated the way it instantly brings the anti-semite out in some people.
Lamont was brilliant IHMO in avoiding that trap. Liarman is lobbyist friendly period, whether it’s the pharmaceutical industry or whatever. It was much more constructive for instance to point out that HoJoe and Johnson, for instance, were all for helping the BigPharma profit at the expense of seniors. We Lamont supporters got in a few kicks for Chris Murphy that way.
it sure seems like mccain is joe’s designated running mate.
and that mccain ain’t gonna be the gop candidate.
so, given that … hard to figure out where our old pal joe goes, except that he’s already independent.
shaping up to be a weird election
The only problem with Harry Reid shit-canning Lieberman is that Reid depends on Joe to be his stalking horse. It is very convenient to be able to blame all of your failures on Lieberman’s constant threat to dump the Dems and join the Repugs. Blaming Joe for not pulling the trigger on Iraq funding is a convenient ploy, and I believe they are both on the same page in this ongoing farce.
Light weight? Hardly.
Wanna talk to me about political slutism? Talk to me about Karen Hughes and Condi Rice. No finer examples can I conjure. There ought to be a special award for these two. Say the ‘Goebbels Propaganda trophy for dis-truth’, or some such. As for Lieberman? What a lying Republican whore.
“Propaganda of the deed,” a phrase attributed to the Italian revolutionary Carlo Pisacane (1818-1857), has long been associated with the tactics of terrorism. The Bush administration’s image czarina and no. 1 overseas spin-stress, Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Karen Hughes, has now provided humankind with an updated version of Pisacane’s term: “diplomacy of deeds.”
A Bush confidante for years, Hughes is yet another reminder that the current administration is essentially parochial in nature, with little interest in international dialogue. It is driven by an almost fanatical desire to impose its will everywhere, using anything at its disposal, be it sewing machines or smart bombs. Karen’s term for this mania? The diplomacy of deeds.

okay, I know that nutmeggers can’t recall him, but what if he formally jumped to the Republican party – is there some form of impeachment they could utilize ?!?!?

No recent polls on Liebermans’ approval rating? Now there would be a place I’d be happy to donate a few $$.
The article cited in the post refers to Petraeus as a Lt. Gen. (three stars). The Iraq command is a four star job and Petraeus was promoted to fill it. He is now General Petraeus.

Lieberman, from a wiki on the race.
OK Kiddo at #55, You brought up my old favorite school marm, Karen Hughes. Do you have any idea what her current job is? Last I heard she was explaining to the Iraqi populace what a great place America is.
OT re: Harry Reid
This may have been previously posted, or may have flown under the radar. (?)
Harry Reid responds to Bush’s pledge to veto Iraq appropriations with a figurative “Bring it on.” Reid says veto if you insist, but we’ll counter with STIFFER pull-out wording. Veto again and wording will get even stiffer, etc. etc. to & including actual defunding.
This was a tiny news blurb last Thur or Fri nite that seemed to get lost in the shuffle.
I thought it was big; ignore if it’s old news to you. At very least, it’s a good sign that Bush’s tantrums aren’t scaring anyone into submission.
JoeL makes me want to start a fund to buy certain politicians airline tickets *halfway* to Europe.
Joe won’t change parties – he would lose all seniority and his committee chairmanships. It does him absolutely no good, not even as a threat since the D’s maintain control anyway. He is a reliable vote for the R’s, so he is really in the catbird’s seat the way things are. Our only hope is that he totally pisses Reid off at some point and loses the chairmanship.

Sorry — sausage fingers pushed the wrong key.
Mui, Palestinians and all Arabs have a whole lot more Semitic blood than most Jews in the US.
IMO it might well have been vote-getting for Lamont to nail Lieberman to the Republican Administration by connecting the dots through PNAC/The Lobby to Lieberman and his known loyalty to Israel.
Water under, however, …… and Who Knows where it will all be next year. Rosen and Weissman are up soon and A**AC under close scrutiny. Perhaps even Ms Pelosi, Reid (according to Kucinich) et al will not be getting any money from them by then. Perhaps the growing human, honest, and embarrassed Jewish grouping against the horrendous treatment of the Palestinians will have influence by then.

I don’t want to talk about “blood” or what’s technically semitic. It’s beside the point.
It would not have been constructive among conservative voters and goopers to point this out, because they see Israel as an ally in the war against Terra. I was asked by many Jewish voters what Lamont’s position was with a certain apprehension that Lamont may have been anti-Israel. HoJoe had anticipated/worked up people’s fears by sending out flyers to target Jewish voters (many of whom were Dems who enventually voted for Lamont). It would have been playing into his corner.

close snark tag.
The Clinton’s did five things in the last election. They re-elected Hillary (most important to them). They let Ned Lamont down and by so doing, let down the Democratic Party, and most importantly this country and the world down in the process of working their political selfishness.

That would be Joe Lieberman of course, although the article is no longer available on their website, and google’s cache mysteriously comes up empty.
Mr. Bailey, the author, completely left that part out. How conveeeeenient.
No dogs, no naked pile ups, no electricity connected to your balls, no rapes, no waterboarding. Sounds like the Iranians were trying to follow the Geneva Convention. Imagine that!
That is unless the Iraqi prisoners at Abu Gharib were smiling under those hoods and we could just not tell that they were really happy.

I’ve written two actually, will post later…
The Connecticut Post editorial celebrated Joe’s independent-mindedness and willingness to take tough stands for what he believes is right.
Lieberman is not your orthodox party politician. Time after time, he has risen above partisanship to vote his principles and time after time he has reached across the political aisle to build coalitions based on those beliefs and what he feels is correct for America and for Connecticut.

Admittedly, I am not a CT resident and may have missed articles in the CT Post (which was a crappy paper when I lived in CT). So letter one may have some errors. Here it is anyway:
Your article on the duplicitous Senator Lieberman was spot on. However, it raises some questions about the Post’s coverage in 2006.
Where were you, and where was the CT Post, in 2006? I followed the Lamont campaign closely, and don’t recognize your name. In fact, the only established media name (ie not blogs) that I’ve ever seen associated with Ned Lamont is Colin McEnroe.
I also don’t recall any work from the CT Post, with or without your byline, about the support Lieberman was getting from the White House, or how the WH essentially abandoned the actual GOP candidate Schlessinger. Perhaps you can refresh my memory? NB to whoever sent me that link in comments.
I’m sorry you all re-elected Mr. Lieberman, especially when you had an opportunity to expose his well-known mendacity, his attacks on democrats, his closeness to Bush, his dishonesty about his support for the war in Iraq, his support for Samuel Alito, etcetera etcetera.
There’s always next time I guess. How many Connecticut National Guardsmen and Military members will have died in Iraq by that time, do you think?
Thanks, and if you could send me some examples of the CT Post’s 2006 exposes on Senator Lieberman, I would appreciate it.

Kathleen @ 28 I went through the first 100 or so post and yours was the only on that said what we know: LIEberman is an Isreal Firster.

Yes indeed, Mrs. Clinton has a lotta ’splanin’ ta do and not the least of which is her cozy relationships with Likuderman, A*P*C and Rupert Murdoch. I have been sayin’ all along that the Clinton corporatists can’t get nominated for Dogcatcher anywhere by Democrats without the Democratic base and Mrs. Clinton most certainly is the only candidate of the four leading Democrats (I include Al Gore here) who can’t get elected in the general election.
So all Democratic activists hafta hang Lieberman, Murdoch and the whole obsolete Clintonista machine right around her neck and escort her to the end of the Santa Monica Pier.

Letter two, written soon after I found out about the endorsement:
Dear Mr. Bailey,
Silly me, I should have done my research first. Your newspaper ENDORSED Lieberman in the primary and the general tpm link,
for the list). No wonder I didn’t recognize your name.
Mr. Bailey, shame on you: why didn’t you mention in your article that your newspaper gave Joe Lieberman a big thumbs up in 2006? Isn’t this a little like the guy who killed his parents and then threw himself upon the mercy of the court because he’s an orphan? You owe it to your readers to remind them that your paper thought enough of Lieberman to send him back to DC even after CT Democrats resoundingly rejected him in the primary.
There has been much made lately about citizens’
distrust of the media, and your editorial is a classic example: you totally gloss over the newspaper’s role in Lieberman’s victory, and write as if you’re “shocked, just shocked” about Lieberman’s dishonesty regarding his views on the war. Mr. Bailey, I have
absolutely zero journalistic credentials, and I knew just about everything you are now complaining about in today’s editorial back in 2005 and 2006.
Either you are just now discovering old news, or you have finally grown angry enough with Mr. Lieberman’s behavior to tell the truth about the man. Neither option, frankly, reflects well upon the Connecticut Post.
As of this writing, 3,269 Americans have met their death in Iraq. Today being the four year anniversary, some basic math offers up 817.25 deaths each year.
Assuming the death toll remains static, there will be an additional 4,903.5 deaths by 2012, when the Senator your paper endorsed is up for re-election. I hesitate to even estimate the number of injuries, which according to the Iraq Coalition Casualities site (http://icasualties.org/oif/) places at 24,314 as of March 2007.
Perhaps next time, the Post will think things through a little more carefully before making endorsements.

It’s quite obvious by the fact that they’re both still employed that MSNBC, NBC and CBS Radio are, to say the least, enablers of racists. Fox doesn’t have anything on the Big Three any more. Corporate racist fascism is alive and well. it’s a wonder that the general population isn’t more racist than it is.

appology to mods. i made another Ziggurat. hope it didn’t screw things up (crikey!) ……
heh… Don Novello (Father Guido Sarducci) did a great prank in which he wrote to world leaders as Lazlo Toth, with all sorts of insane ideas and requests.
one of them was the Galveston canal, which woudl replace the Panama Canal. not only would the proposed canal, which would stretch from Galveston Texas to “Lazlo’s” home in San Diego, prevent illegal immigration, all the displaced earth could be moved to the Carribean, where it would be a homeland for the Palestinians. Also, Toth would get a couple of cents on every toll, since the canal was his idea.

It’s the Israelis who are the troublemakers — so it is they who should be moving. I wondered earlier about the money to buy, after they have given back our trillions of loans, and Jay straightened me right up: they should be like P(OT)US and borrow it from China!
Sky’s the limit; since they are so good at ‘de facto’, perhaps they should just hand over the geld and render the de facto ownership of NYC de jure, then they could shove out the NYers having learnt how to do that sort of thing with the Palestinians.
Afraid to say the Israeli lobby?

MSM will need new wider angle lens for old VP candidate Jowls McBloviate.. with McCain in the ring one can’t rule it out. imo
I would love to see that ticket. Sure death for the republicans. In fact, perhaps we should start a fund to draft them.
Lieberman and McCain will split votes from BOTH Dem’s and Pub’s . . . which will SERIOUSLY narrow the gap and the ‘disenfrinchisement’ America is working up to against the GOP . . . . it’s a Nader Dream for GOP. Bad, bad juju . . . . not to be encouraged.

fahrender – I like Feingold a whole lot and he’d be great if Edwards momentum grows yet somewhere in my dim memory I thought the CW was his divorced status coupled with being Jewish would doom him. Not that he isn’t qualified – fearless, smart, fine record and all that good stuff….a true progressive democrat.
Thank you Connecticut natives for voting this dissembler back into office.
Maybe now you’ll wake the fuck up.
Why is this odious fucker still in the Senate? Can’t Conn. recall his sorry, worthless ass? He’s so repulsive, I can’t even look at or listen to him.
I know Joe isn’t due to face the voters again until 2012, but how about a fund to help get rid of him by reminding the idiots of CT who voted for Joe last Nov, what a real piece of crap he is on a constant basis. Have 30 second or 60 ad’s come out once a month, starting with Joe’s words and remind the voters what those words really mean. Show him constantly shilling for Bush and use his own filthy words and actions against him. Have these ads on all the way up to the next election, so that Joe can’t lie his way through again in 2012 and as a permanent warning to the Zell Miller types that they can’t get away with this anymore. I’d be more than happy to kick in money to this on an ongoing basis. He’s constantly thumbing his nose at progressives and I think it’s time we slice it off and hand it to him.
