650,000 Iraqi deaths attributable to U.S. invasion

Today a report (heard on the radio — someone may want to find the source) tallies the number of deaths — beyond what would have happened under Saddam — that have occurred in Iraq since the U.S. occupation began.

650,000 Iraqi’s have died who would not have died if the U.S. had not come to Iraq and 225,000 deaths are directly due to U.S. soldiers.

Shocking and sad.

Get our soldiers out of Iraq NOW!!

It is beginning to look doable, if not easy. The big coverage is that the Iraqi people are loudly calling for the Americans to go home. What a good idea; let’s do give them what they want. It surely is even more sounding like VietNam. Plan with the Iraqis for us to go home. Of course we cannot leave it to W; he is “noncomp” ; maybe Nancy can show the way. Let’s plan to leave that poor country alone; I think we would have the Pope’s blessing.

In a way, we’re lucky Gore was ruled the loser. Right now, Lieberman would be the favorite for an ‘08 run. Of course we wouldn’t have Iraq so maybe my comment is already moot.

You know, I’m still waiting for the parades with flowers and candy from all the grateful Iraqis. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to settle for a pleasant Baghdad weekend shopping spree with Senator McCain and his squadron of Apache gunships.

The senate’s organizing resolution is done, and afik it cant be undone. Kick Joe off his committees, remove his seniority. Let him switch parties, who cares! Let’s be done with him. Call his stupid Droopy Dog bluff.

But because the organizing resolution is done, he would keep chairmanship of Homeland Security and Senate Oversight.

No the majority party at the commencement of the Congress controls who holds the seat. If Lieberman changes parties he would lose the seat. The Republicans would gain a member (and perhaps a vote…but Lieberman votes with the Republicans on most issues nowadays where it matters)…but to retain Lieberman even on his Committees they would have to sacrifice one of their own members.

So it actually is a benefit for the Republicans to maintain the status quo. Lieb is essentially a proxy Rethug on these Committees, and the Dems sacrifice their control wherever he is.

Force him to become a Rethug and they actually lose one net seat on all these Committees, and likely lose a seat that is a perk for a junior member back home in his district. That makes that member more vulnerable…and Lieb also becomes more vulnerable in 2012.
