Please stop by and give Matt and Chris a push. Matt is the hardest working man in the blogosphere and Chris — well, nobody can clutch carrots quite like Chris.
Let's help them make sure they'll never be hungry again.
Also — where should Baghdad John go next? (I think this is my favorite.)

It’s MY pear pie.
We’ve moved on to Indian food. And Lewis Black videos.
cleter @ 3
Steven Colbert would call it impeachiness.
I want Ethiopian food! Ok, off to visit that site.
Is it the French kind of pie, which is more like a tart with a shortbread crust or is it an American pie with a filling like apple pie?
You know what’s good? Barbecuing a ham. I’m doing that right now.
Where is everybody? Are you all eating pie?
How do you do it? Recipe?
I didn’t realize anyone was taking pictures when Matt visited the PlameHouse.
Hahaha! That photo of John Boy visiting Indiana is great! I often put on my flak vest when visiting Indiana farms.
OT – request for help.
I’ve brought quite a few of my friends to the Lake, usually by sending them a link to a particular blog. Now several have asked me “why is the USA firing thing such a big deal.”
Now I could start from scratch and write a little summary, but I figure with all the talent around here, someone’s done it already, or knows where someone’s done it and could provide me a link or two.
If you can refer me, either post here, or e-mail me @ name above at AOL dot com. I know the issues — or least feel like I’ve got a pretty good grasp — I’m just not sure I’d do as complete an explanation as the Wonderful Folks here.
Thanks. And mods, if this is a problem, kick me off.
Indeed. We live Chris and Matt. Please share the love if you can.
Last thread I promised Eureka Springs a link to some of the help being offered women in Afghanistan Pakistan, etc. Here it is: http://www.w4wafghan.ca/ A close friend of mine from my Canada days is intimately involved with this.
Gnome de Plume @ 16
Thanks, I just didn’t want to feed that possible troll..not easily anyway..)
Eureka Springs @ 17
I knew that. Feeding gnomes is OK, though. mmmm Pear Pie . . . .
I have chocolate but no pie. :( will gladly trade.
My Saturday after noon daydream:
1. Dems pass Iraq funding bill with an end-date of October 15, 2008.
(Future campaign slogan: If we’d had our way, the war would be over by now.)
2. Bush stomps foot, vetoes bill, says he won’t sign a funding bill with “strings attached”.
3. The Democratic Congress, in a move described by the media as “deliciously Rovian”, impeaches the President for the high crime of refusing to fund our troops that he himself sent to the battlefield.
All we are saying, is give pea*s a chance. [Overheard at a sit in for watertigers pear pie!]
For all those inquiring about the bar membership status of Monica Goodling, I hereby EPU this from the dead bottom of the last thread:
I should have posted it here as well, but I posted at EW’s site The Next Hurrah, last Wed. or Thursday that I had a telephone conference with the representative from the membership section of the Virginia State Bar and she reported that Monica Goodling is a current member, in good standing, of the Virginia bar. This fact and a discussion of the ethical rules in Virginia that Goodling likely violated is contained in the comments to EW’s April 5 post titled “Monica Goodling and Kenny Boy Lay”. If there are any Virginia residents that have a particular interest in this issue, please go over and take a look; you may want to help your state police it’s offensive lawyers.

An example in Wisconsin where US Attorney tried to help Mark Green, GOP candidate for Governor. The incumbent Democrat, Jim Doyle still won, but this woman was convicted and sent to prison until last Thursday when the 7th Circuit unanimously overturned the conviction. The Judge in the case, Rudy Randa, was a W. appointment. This is why Iglesias in NM lost his job, he wouldn’t bring cases against Dems running for office before the November elections.
OT, Rove’s leveraging of the US Attorneys drives enormous cash to the GOP (and if you believe Monica, to God too). Remember L. Dennis Kozlowski and Tyco? I bet we will find that the administration brought huge pressure to bear on those USA’s, because of all the money Kozlowski funneled to the GOP. Same way with a USA named Black who was prosecuting a guy in Guam, but Rove and Abramoff won that round. The guy just paid Abramoff, and Rove had Black, a USA, fired.
Mauimom, less complicated, per Frank below from TNH, the nation deserves nothing but the absolute best qualified prosecutors as US Attorneys.
“How come nobody’s pointing out the BEST reason to be pissed off about not having the best-qualified people for job working at the DOJ? More bad guys will get away!

Ok, this funding mechanism is just stoopid. Please do the following:
1.) Create an ActBlue kind of page. Call it BlueBlogs or something.
2.) List the following blogs:
Firedoglake
Hullabalou
MyDD
Crooksandliars
Insert other needy blog name here
3.) Allow donations to the blogs by blog *and* on a monthly basis. Put a suggested subscription rate per blog if desired. So, If I want to subscribe for a year at $20.00/month, I will distribute my money according to the frequency that I read them. So, $10.00/month to FDL, $10.00/month to Digby, $5 each to crooks and mydd.
4.) Put links on syndicated blogs to the BlueBlogs page.
This piecemeal stuff has got to stop. I hate being solicited every other day. I want to set it and forget it.
I found an interview of Rachel Paulose on the toobs. It is a juicy look into who she is. Some new clues to follow. It is long and worth the watch.

Christy’s had a few passionately indignant posts about this. Should be easy to search.
Also, Josh Marshall Talking Point Memo (which is breaking Firefox multiple times today…?) is the gold standard.
Andrew Cohen has ongoing blogging in WaPo. Today:

John Casper is on to it, in macro. Rove/Abramoff/IndianTribes-casinos/Guam. SCANDAL. Gov’t by party only. Law used in pursuit of permanent R majority. Stealing elections. Subverting democratic processes. etc.
John Casper @ 23
Try explaining it like this: Suppose you’re the victim of a federal crime, and the bad guys get caught. You get to choose who will prosecute them: (a) An experienced Republican prosecutor who is known for their integrity and for their zeal in taking down wrong-doers, or (b) an inexperienced Republican hack from a law school you’ve never heard of who got the job because of their blind loyalty to George W Bush and their willingness to overlook political corruption in their own party.
Which one would you want prosecuting your case?
bmaz @ 22
One good EPU desrves another: This is beyond satire:
Apparently some students at Monica Goodling’s alma mater
think that Mitt Romney belomgs to some kind of cult.
Orrin Hatch, call your office.
portia.v – I like that idea.
portia.vz @ 25
a while ago i asked pach if it was possible for us to use actblue to create a monthly donation for blogs… iirc, he said there was some kind of legal obstacle.
these are the kinds of instutional support structures that aren’t in place – yet. remember when there wasn’t an actblue? or blog ads?
it’s up to all of us (not just jane, or chris or matt) to create the instutional support structures…. and the above mentioned people are already doing more than i thought humanly possible for the cause…
Mauimom @ 14
Mauimom, this is a story that is still coming together. Here at the lake we participate by bringing more and more clues and evidence to the story. When we get to the point that Emptywheel gets enough clues she or someone else here will make an easy to follow timeline for all of us. Things will be proved, disproved reproved and the truth will be known. Until then watch the process it’s amazing..
lolo
That was easy. Matt and Chris use Paypal on this account!
Both Blue America and Act Blue make you fill out the whole form every time, and I, for one, think it’s shiteous.
Mormonism isn’t any kookier than the belief in other Christian denominations that God frequently turns into a kind of cracker that Christians cheerfully consume.
Frank Probst, I quoted you and your excellent comment about that from tnh above, but it got caught in moderation.
As a Bush toady, Baghdad John should go to Crawford, TX and help the Preznit bring in this year’s brush crop. Being a brush rancher is hard work.

I’d sure like to know what that legal obstacle was because I can donate separately and frequently until I get sick of answering the call or we can all be more mature about it and set up an automatic payment system where all the donations can be made and collected in one fell swoop. Call me dim but I can’t see the legal impediment to directing your credit card to a number of blogs through a single interface. I’ve never written such a thing before but I feel motivated enough to learn how to do it. My button has been pushed.
John Casper @ 34
I lurk at TNH and love to read your input. You both bring so much to the story. Thanks, I love both of you John and Frank.
Mauimom @ 14
Well, I’m not going to give you a detailed summary with links (though the TPM Timeline is pretty good for “just the facts, ma’am), but I’ll take a shot at the elevator pitch.
This is a big deal because the administration attempted to turn the federal justice system to the purpose of helping Republicans get elected, rather than enforcing the law. They pressured Republican-appointed US Attorneys to investigate Democrats and their staffers, and indict them or leak the fact that they were under investigation before Election Day, and to derail investigations of Republicans.
(If you want to sound all reasonable, you can preface this with “there’s considerable evidence that…”)
US Attorneys serve “at the pleasure of the president” and are appointed by him, which means he can set the priorities they should follow through his policies, but not that he can direct who they should go after, or direct them to put the interests of him or his party above serving the law. He can fire them, but this is never done without cause. Firing them to derail an investigation into his party members (Rep. Lewis) or those favored by his cronies (Abramoff) is obstruction of justice and is illegal, and firing them to replace them with someone more sycophantic may not be illegal, but is definitely wrong (see Nixon, R.M.)
And if anyone wants to believe that this is a case of “they all do it,” even John Ashcroft sent newly appointed US Attorneys off with the statement “You have to leave politics at the door to do this job properly.”
Thanks lolo.
Thanks mods.

Brilliance!
LOL, the guy in pic doesn’t look hungry at all, in fact he looks like he could do with a few less meals in general…
Thanks folks, for all the help. Much appreciated.
Jane,
I’m glad to see this post! MyDD was my main hangout until December, when I was anxiously looking for coverage of the Scooter Libby trial and found FDL. I haven’t been over at MyDD as much since the November election because they haven’t been covering the issues I care about as well as FDL. But they still have a high place on my blogroll!

Chris and Matt– Woo Hoo!!!!
Give Baghdad John a walk on the beach.
hey pups – it most certainly be easier if we could donate to one place and perhaps a greater mind than mine can determine how to distribute it… i agree with portia’s suggestion but please work smething out…. it’ll be easier on people like me living on a fixede income to write one check to help the progressive blogs in need…
After Jane Hamsher, Chris Bowers is my favorite American.
Clutching carrots sounds dirty. I hope it is.
I contributed.
