Thanks to Kit for locating this graphic at BoreMe
It's Saturday night … and after kiddie hours … but just a warning, some of the links below may not be work or kid appropriate.
My son, Kit , paged me today with a link to an amazing piece of writing and we thought it was just the thing for a Saturday night at the Lake. It seems that Susie Bright has a few things to say about our dear leader and his decision to skip the opening day of baseball …
This has been George Bush's horrible, no-good, very bad week. Nothing could be worse— the President had to give up throwing the first pitch of the season.
His spokeswoman said he was "too busy" to make the game.
But W. has never been too busy for baseball in his entire life.
(snip)
"I've got a decision to make today. Do I go with the fastball or a slider?" Bush asked in 2005. Now he gets to choose whether he wants to appear in public with a bag over his head, or a Britney-wig.
After this opening, her post Too Busy: The Sexual Politics of the Presidential Crisis goes on to provide one of the best ever take-downs of this criminal administration.
George's dear friend, Attorney General Alberto "Fredo" Gonzales has also been very busy.
While Congress hounded him to account for the federal prosecutors who were fired on what appears to be "Mean-Girls" criteria, Gonzales refused to answer the indictments, and instead… is on a national speaking tour to decry the horrors of child pornography.
Bright continues with a brilliant analysis of the ways the Bush administration have used child pornography as mass distraction while not addressing in any way the very real horrors of sexual child abuse:
90% of reported child abuse cases take place in the home, between blood relatives, and there's no webcam involved. There may be bias to child abuse statistics, but everyone— except political opportunists— acknowledge that "hurting children" is largely an ugly and secretive family affair, one which Bush's DOJ has ignored. The issue has no partisan "gain" for them— why bother?
Of course, the Executive Branch functionaries in charge of "helping families" are the folks at the Department of Health and Human Resources, but they are so busy demanding abstinence education, and trying to stop birth control, that they can't get around to the starving, burned, or beaten.
and she skewers the sexual underpinnings of the Rovian agenda:
"Why do we go to war?"
Because we're not PUSSIES."Why is corporate crime no big deal?"
Because CHILD PORN is destroying America."What's the most important moral question facing the country?"
GAY MARRIAGE."What's the problem with public education today?"
QUEER LIBERALS are passing out CONDOMS.
finishing with a clear call for us all to refuse to buy into the "political smut-mongering" of the right:
Hmmm… reality. The middle class stripped to a barrel, the poor sent to die abroad, the US rudderless, internationally. So much blood on our hands, Lady Macbeth looks like an American Idol contestant.
Can any amount of political smut-mongering and queer-baiting pull us out of the reality hole?
Ben Franklin designed our first penny with his favorite expression, "Mind Your Business." It was taken as a statement of respect for privacy, as well as minding your own store.
There's a kind of "busy," when you're taking care of your family and your community— and there's the other kind of "busy," when you're poking your nose where it doesn't belong, because of your vanity and greed.
Smut-baiting needs to be seen, and called out, as the kind of "busy" that no one's going to tolerate anymore.
It's a disgrace that the White House panders "child porn" panics with such deceit and indifference that they have succeeded in making people's eyes glaze over an issue that ought to turn anyone into a pillar of salt.
For those of you unfamiliar with Ms. Bright, here's how she describes herself: "I'm an author, editor, performer, sex guru, teacher, mom, seamstress, pumpkinhead. I live in Santa Cruz, CA with my partner Jon and daughter Aretha." Her writing about politics began early:
My first publication was home-made. When I was 8, I was very upset about Ronald Reagan running for governor in California, and I wrote a pamphlet denouncind him in my orange-red crayolas and stuck copies of it all around the neighborhood. I signed them, "Concerned Citizens of California."
And she continues to remind us all of the sexual politics at play – as well as write with wit and wisdom … and great spice … about sexuality, parenting and whatever else strikes her agile mind.
Please read her full post – it's a wonderful piece of writing and an important reminder of the real perversion of the Bush years. As Kit said when we were discussing her post:
I feel like a lot (though not all) of the liberal blogs often ignore this aspect of the current administration. I think undermining the rights of consenting adults, and leaving children and teenagers dangerously miseducated about sexual health is really as dangerous to our future as anything being done in Iraq or to the environment. That's not to say those aren't important issues, but how can we hope to have a healthy and well-adjusted government without healthy and well-adjusted people to run it?
With mega thanks to Kit for his collaboration on this post.

Love the graphic!!
No Deposit. No return!
Congrats Raph!
WHAT?
He’s really NOT going to throw out the first pitch? And he has been on vacation since Tuesday?
THIS LOOKS BAD FOR IRAN!!!
Raph! congrats on your first time!
I’m so radical, I’m impatient.
Siunshine in the house!
Hey Mom, good work on this :) It is nice to see Susie and her issues highlighted here. There are so many ways Bush and co. are trashing our country, but I think it is really important to increase awareness of this one. The fact that all 8 federal prosecutors refused to prosecute Gonzales obscenity cases is especially telling (a point made by Susie in this post). The administration apparently has an anti-sex agenda and you’re either on board our out of a job.
Susie’s blog is a worthwhile read, whether its her rants on sexual politics, informed commentary on feminist figures, or her long interview with RU Sirius on sex and drugs, she’s always thought provoking and stimulating.
Do note that one of Rachel Paulose’s stated top priorities was going after child pornography.
Meanwhile, slumlords who refused to clean up their buildings are being allowed to poison lots of young kids with lead paint they refuse to remove. (go to the last page and scroll down)

i think child porn is one of the magical admin priorities that US Attorneys can be retroactively blamed and fired for not following up if they fail to stop prosecuting corrupt rethug politicos.
Hey Kit! Thanks again for making this post possible and helping me with it! Great Collabo as S would say!
and I really do hope folks read the whole post to see the section where she discusses the US Attorneys … important info!
Kit, Welcome to the lake! Another point worth repeating is that the folks who want to end net neutrality (like my D Senator Mark Pryor) will attack these freedoms under the auspice of protecting us all from internet porn.
Here’s the section on the US Attorneys – I ran out of time to include it in the main post but will try to edit it in … meanwhile here’s what Susie says:
Do you know what the eight fired prosecutors have in common? The mainstream media have downplayed this, when you’d think they’d be building a bonfire.
The common thread between the Fired-8 is that all of them declined to press obscenity charges on cases that the DOJ was desperately running up a flagpole without success.
Now, why? — since we know these prosecutors are Republicans who would love to win a solid case— why would they frown on pursuing such charges?
Bush’s DOJ Porno Task Force told the prosecutors to go after X-rated entertainment companies who make adult, consensual productions—grown-ups with contracts! This time, the focus was supposed to be on subject material like piss, scat, bestiality, and… S/M. They were counting on a big “ick” factor!
But the Super-8 aren’t all that stupid, and they know what happens in obscenity trials when you go after the 1st Amendment. They could paper the White House with case history. They won’t chase these clown cars, because, as Paulie Walnuts might put it, “they’re weak, they’re out of control, and… an embarrassment to yourself and everyone else.”
What the hell is an “S/M” video, after all? Are you going to go after Hollywood for releasing 9 1/2 Weeks? Any defense lawyer worth his salt is going to bring in Pasolini’s Salo, portraits of Abu Gharib victims, and documentaries on cattle insemination to pose the question: What is context? What about taste? What crime has been committed? Legitimate film producers, be they “adult,” mainstream, or hybrid, are not going to take it lying down.
You know when President Reagan went after porn in the 80s, he told his Attorney General, Edwin Meese, to focus on gay sex, anal sex, and black-white couples— and to charge them in Texas. And it still backfired.
Here’s the rule of thumb: whatever the DOJ wants to prosecute as obscenity is an unfortunate snapshot of the dirty mind that wrote the memo.
Ha! Seriously he isn’t throwing the first pitch? Now I wonder if he really has clued into the overwhelming probability that he would be loudly booed, or that his handlers have offered him some lame excuse to further enable his insulation from reality. Of course there is always the possibility he can’t pitch to save his soul. Not something you can fake by putting on a jersey now is it?
Kelven – I think they were very afraid he would receive the same treatment Dick did last year …
gotta protect the fragile ego there.
The Bush administration seems to think they have the right to be in our underwear. I take exception to this.
I’m in the Bay Area and Susie is well known here.
GOOD VIBRATIONS!!!
Phoenix Woman. I don’t want to miss your point. With the exception of maybe .001 of the world’s population, everyone’s stated top priority is going after child porn. Can you say more? Just a smoke screen for the rightwingchristianistnuts? Thanks.
Bil – I really recommend looking at the Susie Bright post – she has a lot to say about how the child porn wars are screwed up – not addressing the real child porn issues but used to keep us all in a frenzy so we don’t notice reality too much.
Siun @ 15
Yeah, I think that’s the most likely too. But what excuse did they offer him? Guess we’ll find out on the actual day of the game for the replacement lameness.
I love the graphic with the sublime caption, Siun!
Speaking of our current AG, I’ll be in DC the week he has his long overdue chat with the Judiciary committee, and I plan to go to the hearing. As a resident of Washington state and one of the fired USA’s was from my district, I’m quite interested.
pretty good, eh? Kit sent over the link when I said I wanted to post about Susie’s piece which he had shown me … this really is a collaboration post!
Siun @

Thanks Siun, I was still in hyperdrive. Exhale!
Eureka Springs, I left a response to your question about Blackwater in San Diego in the previous thread at 109.
To me the child porn smut-baiting is just the bottom of the barrel that these guys have been scraping all along. All the morality the loyal Bushies seem to recognize has to do with sex…and other people’s at that.
The morality associated with war, poverty, destroying other people’s or other species’ habitat is nothing to them.
ah Bil … breathing is good for you!
Terry Olson @ 24
yes, and cbl left a good one for you. Thanks.
Well, this was EPU’d but maybe more on-topic here. I wonder if USA/TN offices are looking for dirt on Gore, should he be drafted, etc. Out of the three districts, only one was Senate confirmed. But that jus a year ago. DOJ press release:
I don’t get putting porn and fraud together, but it’s on the agenda.
Siun @ 15
I think they were afraid he would flip off the stadium if booed.
No real basis, I just think it would be consistant with the real inner self which RoveCo has taken such pains to shield.
Even at the top of his game (2002-2003), they had to stack the deck.
Hey Mack!
I owe you lunch!
Siun @ 30
I am around all week
^_^
If we don’t nominate a progressive Democrat for president, by that I mean someone who’s interested in protecting Mother Earth, pulling out of Iraq, preventing unprovoked attacks on foreign countries, funding health care and education, tax breaks for the working poor and middle class, privacy, a fair settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian situation, and more, we will be singing the same blues, we’re singing today, in a very few years.
Have folks noticed this post at Pam’s House Blend about Gonzo enabling child sex abuse?
It’s relevant and important
Blank Kludge @ 28
It’s perfect: the porn overriding the fraud investigations would pair them together.
greenwarrior -
So obvious, how’d I miss that?
;->
I remain fascinated by how very backward we americans are about sexuality and so how easily our pols are able to manipulate us of porn, etc.

Ohhh, please report!
Suzy is alright in my book, that’s for sure
bush is all wrong…in all books
why is he still running off at the mouth?
I don’t know if anyone heard his latest rant, he is a tool
he goes;
“congress went on vacation without sending me a bill I won’t veto, I TOLD them I was going to veto the bills they sent me, WHY did they go on vacation?
they KNOW the veto will stand and if they DON’T send me a bill JUST the way I want it, why…why…why, we will have to cut back in IRAN”
now, that’s not verbatim, it’s a little snarky where bush is not but it’s pretty much right on what he actually said
to which dean had a mediocre response to the effect;
[quote I wish]
“bush better learn we are here to do what we were elected to do which is get us out of Iraq”
we really HAVE to start pushing back a little harder, dean should have gotten back with;
“I don’t understand WHY the president doesn’t want to support the troops and I don’t understand WHY he doesn’t want to support his ill advised war
I ESPECIALLY don’t understand how on earth this president doesn’t understand congress’s SWORN obligation to abide the will of the people that put us in office…
PERHAPS the president thinks we in congress take our oath to our Constitution as he does, but really, he has got to learn FAST;
we intend on KEEPING OUR OATH TO THIS NATION, HER CONSTITUTION, AND THE PEOPLE THAT ELECTED US TO END THE WAR HE MANUFACTURED FOR THE PURPOSE OF FULFILLING THE MORONIC MANIACS IN THE SICK FRATERNITY INT THE PNAC”[end the quote I wished for]
hehe
sorry about the yelling but dean needs to get on the Murtha Reinold bandwagon and start calling these idiots out on their moronic war
Wow! Susie Bright is awesome! Thanks, Siun!
This gives me even more ammo to use against the wingnuts at work. A couple of weeks ago I was arguing with one of them, saying “Aren’t you ashamed of all the phony preaching about sex? Aren’t you embarrassed to be associated with all of those fake Christians always preaching like a bunch of sunday school teachers? You people are uptight about sex!”
This is one of the few attacks that can actually get through a wingnut’s thick skull.
So…if the Deciderer isn’t going to throw the first pitch, who is? Gore? Bill Clinton? Who?
Siun @ 22
This is so cool! Mother and Child (Re)union! And the graphic is too hysterical!
Terry @37-count on it. I just bought my first laptop so I could use it on this trip. No liveblogging, but an evening wrap up is the goal. You firepups will be watching it on cspan 3 so I’ll contribute what I can.
Riesz – yep! and the link to the problems with Gonzo from Pams House blend is worth pointing out to any wingnuts you know!
Terry – it was so much fun to do … Kit is one of my favorite people!
Hey Siun,
thank you very much for this – wow ! I thought of Susie as a flippant one liner type, had no idea she could write like that – dayum she nails ‘em
I no longer read local papers so I was unaware of the Texas Youth Commission horror – sounds kinda muddled right now, but my money is on the Texas Rangers – their guy brought this to light and they’re not known for backing down
Susie’s post put me in a mind to enjoy my favorite Senator and his take on obscenity

Paging TRex!
All in the Bush administration are “expendable”. Including Cheney and Rove. This is but one myth of the Bush family. The myth of loyalty. The Bush family political dynasty is loyal to one thing only. It’s self, and ruthlessness.
Dover Bitch @ 45
rats!
Been visiting with company from out of town, so I don’t know if this has been mentioned here yet. About Bush almost setting himself on fire.
Wingnut family values
Life is precious until birth
Child porn must be stampedout because it is visual evidence
Democrats don’t value marriage as strongly as Republicans; Republican candidates have twice as many marriages on average
TheOtherWA @ 42
I can’t watch stuff on C-Span, gotta work. Your take will be really appreciated, WA!
I really miss being able to edit my comments – any of the FDL tech gurus know how to make that work with IE7?
Poor TRex, suffering the consequences of eating his modem while snacking late Thursday night.
Mack @ 51
I’m not an FDL techie, but may I suggest using Firefox instead? It’s better than IE anyway. Trust me.
Siun @
36
Indeed. People get all wrought up about how others ought to behave and make a bunch of rules up that defy basic biology. And then ignore the really nasty stuff people do to each other, exploitation-wise.
Suzanne @ 52
Uh-oh! Poor thing!
TheOtherWA @ 42
That brings a big smile.
cbl – Susie is quite something! worth reading and so much fun in the face of this insane administration.
Mack – I use Firefox now … pretty amazing, not sure what I did without it!
Think they’ll follow us here?
http://www.realcities.com/mld/…..ton_nation
Last time I was around FDL and the sexually repressive nature of our society came up. Some firedog in Colorado and me in Arkansas got a little rebelious, took off our clothes, left the computer and ran around the outside of our houses in the buff!
I love this place!
Phoenix Woman @ 53
I’m on IE7. I thought I was an idiot for not being able to figure it out.
Eureka Springs @ 60
Hah! Good for you!
Oh Eureka!
hmmm … it’s a tad chilly tonight in Chitown or we could have a challenge!
urban pirate @ 61
I use ie 7 and I have no problem editing…you probably need to update your java
cbl @ 44
I never saw this. It’s wonderful!
Phoenix Woman @ 53
erm
not in my book
there are a long list of reasons, not the least of which is performance issues with multiple tabs – and functional problems with some sites I visit regularly
I switch back and forth, but essentially, under windoze I have more consistant luck with IE
I use Firefox, but I have to go back down to the original comment to edit. Can’t do it from preview.
oh, by the way, for all those that don’t understand the backward attitude toward sex that’s come around in America
I am single male in pretty good shape would like to meet you *g*
Siun @ 63
brrr indeed – too cold even in my basement
Eureka Springs @ 47
That makes the Ford CEO an accomplice to a crime!
perris – can you edit comments again after posting?
i get an error – ‘object required’
Siun @

THANKS again Siun. Nice to see an adult post and enjoyed your site. Still dusk here. I posted the same thing on Suzies’ site and gave you credit for the reference. If you’ve got em smoke em.
Suzie! First, great post.
Second. Bush2 admin BOOOOOOOOO!
Third. Siun sent me here. Apologies in advance.
Sex and Why we Really attacked Iraq.
I saw a comedian in the Bay Area in February in Mill Valley, Ca. He was fantastic and cannot do most of his material in the the country. Scot Capuro. Anyway after the usual warmup attacking Mill Valley, California, Jews, Black, Catholics etc. He proceded to solve why we had gone into the Middle East? Why Else? (Maybe I should preface this by saying that he had previously explained how much he loved Black Cokc, emphasis HIS) The homophobic gay Bush administration attacked Iraq according to Scot Capuro was because of black cokc. Ok, now that makes sense! ‘-)
Happy chocolate bunny day!
firefox works well on linux tho
^_^
CBL – I had missed the link … just watched … I loved that movie so much! hope everyone gives it a click.
greenwarrior @ 65
A MUST see!
Mack @ 71
yes I can, no problem,
[this sentence is an edit]
update your java
Bil @ 72
Scot Capuro meet Chocolate Jesus.
Greenwarrior – you definitely need to see Bulworth – it is so wonderful.
I am so glad CBL brought it up!
perris @ 76
Can you provide detailed instructions? My Java is current, and i’m usually not technically challenged. :)
Terry Olson @ 75
I’m putting it on the to do list. Immediately after the taxes, should I ever stay off FDL long enough to do them.
LOL – after watching Bulworth, you may not every get to the taxes thing!
urban pirate @ 79
go to the sun java site and let the site tell you if you have the latest version
greenwarrior, do your taxes. We live in Orwellsville.
perris @ 82
ps, there is a chance your anti virus is recognizing the object needed as a virus
Um, pardon my ignorance…
Who is Bulworth? Looks like Parallax View meets Max Headroom or something…
But, it does sum things up. Quite nice and tidy-like.
Bulworth may get added to my netflix queue. That clip is hysterical!
Not throwing out the first pitch, or cowering in a secret bunker while the nation is being attacked…same sh#t only different. Coward is in the bones, and sometimes printed on a jersey.
Blank Kludge:

seriously – get it asap
Eureka Springs @ 27
We may need a thread on this, if Christi and Jane think so.
Most people are unaware of Blackwater, leave alone that our brave Governator Schwarzenegger wants to make a contract with them to “secure the state,” presumably when the National Guard is over in Iraq. Our state will be made secure all right, just as Germany was made secure by the GESTAPO.
Siun @ 88
Director – Warren Beatty. Parallax Viewish…

Or the cheerleading get-up.
Terry Olsen … scary stuff on Blackwater. I’m hoping we can get Scahill on to talk about his new book sometime … I can’t wait to read it.
We should also do a liveblogging communal Bulworth viewing maybe?
could be fun!
Anybody watch the talking heads tomorrow? Josh Marshall is looking for some dialog from our front on what is said and by whom. Then he plans a little fact checky thing. Sounds fun to me.
Scroll down to the second story, but come back quickly!

Eureka Springs (and others), time to put your clothes back on because Pach has Easter upstairs.
Siun @ 95
What a FABULOUS idea. Siun, you are teh brilliant. (Now tell me if I’m using ‘teh’ correctly and what it means.)
Siun @ 94
I’m in. This is really unbelievable.
siun – sorry to take a corner of the thread, but this has been bugging me ever since IE7 and no responses until now
perris – java is up to date – and if i am not mistaken, the edit function is actually javascript (javascript java)
i have the same situation on 3 out of 3 computers with IE7 – M$ tightened several portions of the object model with IE7 (making it, IMHO, tighter than the current firefox offering)
oh – that should have read javascript NE java – i used LT GT shorthand which evidently got stripped
Hi Pups. Just got back from dinner with an Undersecretary of Defense (one of the good ones). We’re here for the cherry blossoms and the snow as it turns out. He looked terrible. Aged 10 years since a year ago when we last chit-chatted. This war is killing the good guys. I still don’t understand why he won’t resign. Probably kids in college.
late nite already?
Siun, EPU’d, but I want to jump in late anyway, and offer at least one word.
Thanks.
Peterr – thanks!
and Greenwarrior – perfect use of “teh” … so grammatically correct!
and Mack – no worry at all – edit is a nice function!
Susie Bright is the only person I’ve heard of who attended UC Santa Cruz when I did. ‘79-’81
late to the party, but OMG, I knew I loved FDL and now, h/t to Siun (& Kit) for h/t to Susie Bright.
Last saw Miz Bright in SF almost a decade ago.
She is as crispay now as she was then.
Whether it’s smut-baiting or torture porn, these repressed poseurs need to be called out.
We think we saw Bill O’Riled-up blow a gasket the other night with Geraldo on a topic that is all too familiar territory. I suspect we’d see some heads explode like Peeps in a microwave if we pressed rethugs on the issues Susie suggests.
They are not capable of having an unscripted, honestly debated, adult conversation.
Mind your own business, indeed!
It was George Bush Senior who should’ve pulled out….of Babara

also, if you need to accept a promt for your link button to work then you have to right click and always allow
There may be another, more overtly political angle to the apparent obsession of this administration with child porn, along the lines of providing political cover for the leaders of the christian right.
The basic attack principle of Rove and company has been to project their own candidate’s worst weaknesses onto their potential opponents, so that (for example) Bush and Cheney’s avoidance of military service during the Vietnam war required tarring all Vietnam vet Democrats (e.g., Cleland, Kerry) as cowards or liars.
With this approach, the opponent’s relative strengths are neutralized as the waters are muddied about that strength. So George Bush’s lying about his national guard service becomes less of a problem since even those who served have been swift-boated into appearing as liars themselves.
The biggest current weakness of the christian right is the widespread sexual perversions that pervade its leadership cadre, whether it’s protestant Ted Haggard’s homosexuality, or the catholic Vatican’s tolerance of pedophile priests, or the myriad Jim Bakkers-in-waiting who seek religious power as a way to gain sexual power over their flocks.
And many of the hangers-on to the christian right (e.g., Clarence Thomas) also have rich histories of personal perverse peccadillos.
So the GOP playbook for providing cover for these theocratic miscreants’ asses (in the political sense, that is!) would be to scare up evidence that others are guilty of those same sins, and if those others are democrats, then so much the better.
Thus this child-porn obsession at DOJ is likely equal parts psychological projection, perverse fascination, and political protection.
I think they are using the internet child porn cases to frighten their religious right away from the internet. I think much of what they do is to steer people away from information, real information, honest information.
Let me say that again, I think they use INTERNET CHILD PORN AS A TACTIC TO STOP PEOPLE FROM USING THE INTERNET.
How many households are not buying computers, or not going online, or not allowing their kids to go online and using child porn as a reason? JUST ANOTHER TOOL TO STOP THE RIGHT WINGERS FROM BECOMING INFORMED.
And later, some time down the road, when they say the inet is bad and we must own the key so we can…will the religious right back them???
