Who cares about bar dues. Many of my friends, admitted in more than one state, have let their dues lapse in a state they no longer practice in. Why pay several hundred dollars a year for a privilege you don’t need?

But I’m also a Columbia Law grad, and to think that puts me in the same category as Libby and Armando, well, that’s another thing altogether.

I knew at the time — the library books stolen at exam time, the super-sharp elbows, the selfish disdain for anything but the most trade school attitude toward law school — that I had picked the wrong place to learn the law. Bruce Ackerman fled the Columbia to return to Yale as soon as Yale offered his wife a tenure track job.

You live with your mistakes but you don’t have to like them.

Well, a little poking around these internets uncovered the amusing fact that students at Regent <strike>Maddrassh </strike> University don’t want Mitt Romney to speak on campus
because of his Mormonism.

oh great. sectarian warfare

So long as it remains verbal…

I’d love to see the GOP “religious” coalition
self-destruct over religous differences.

This is politics, not religion.

The GOP use religious people to hide the Gooper megacorp welfare program.

Glad to see the religious “coalition” blow up in Rove’s porcine face.

The WaPo had a story last October about the size of government growing under the alleged “party of small government.” In the chart attached to the story, it shows this for 2005:

civil servants: 1.87 million
military: 1.44 million
postal workers: 767 thousand
grant-related workers: 2.89 million
contractors: 7.63 million

Given these numbers, 150 alums from one school sounds to me like very small potatoes. (Of course, if they are in the right positions, they could be highly influential.)
———————————–
That’s exactly it. We’re talking about political appointees, not regular GS hires here for the most part.

Am I mistaken in there being a difference between ‘government employees’ and people working ‘in the Bush Administration’?

multiple crimes — felonies, all — in-
volving “moral turpitude”. . .

and those are magic words to
bar authorities. perjury in-
volves moral turpitude. so it
is extremely likely he will
never practice law in d.c.
again — unless he wins a 100%
vacating reversal at the appellate
level. the chances of that occuring
are slim to none, given the solid
record judge walton laid down, at
trial, for every ruling he made
from the bench. . .

Never rule it out. Remember Laurence Silberman is still lurking at Appeals. He did it in Iran-Contra, I’m sure he’d be happy to do it again, if he can manage.

I should have posted it here as well, but I posted at EW’s site The Next Hurrah, last Wed. or Thursday that I had a telephone conference with the representative from the membership section of the Virginia State Bar and she reported that Monica Goodling is a current member, in good standing, of the Virginia bar. This fact and a discussion of the ethical rules in Virginia that Goodling likely violated is contained in the comments to EW’s April 5 post titled “Monica Goodling and Kenny Boy Lay”. If there are any Virginia residents that have a particular interest in this issue, please go over and take a look; you may want to help your state police it’s offensive lawyers.
