Cannnot anyone in dealing with Bush and all the flakes around him, just ignore what cannot be changed and focus on what can be changed. So much anger is directed towards Bush and the garbage he has developed (Dowd just another)and so much energy is wasted. What needs to be focused on is keeping the likes of the Clintons, Gores, Kerry types out of power in the next presidential election and focusing on finding the positive.

This guy made me think of the tv special on Charles Manson and all of his women followers. As a human, you do feel sorry for them 35 years later, but they aligned themselves with evil at the time of the crime. So Mr. Dowd may want our forgiveness now, but think of the long-term effect on all the families his ill-placed support hath wrought. Sorry dude….burn in hell with your other former pals.

To me, the essential point of the Dowd story is that it once again proves the eternal and overriding principle of the right wing elite, that other people’s children can be sacrificed with impunity and without a moment’s regret for any reason or for no reason, because they just don’t count as real human beings, but when one of these fascist fuckers is forced to consider the consequences of the wars they start as including that THEIR precious offspring might be endangered, then all their chest-puffing and nationalistic priorities go straight out the window because, don’t you know, their children are the real people who count. The soullessness of this pattern is the most eternally damning thing I see about these warmongers, and I pray they will all burn in hell forever. And their pampered, elitist children right alongside them. My sympathy and pity are reserved for the powerless pawns of these people, who suffer and get no benefit for their sacrifices. I won’t ever forgive those who have been instrumental in policies that killed thousands upon thousands of innocents and other people’s children. And I would advise other readers that we should be unrelentingly ferocious in insisting that these people suffer as much as possible, so there will be a clear historical precedent that deters their ilk in the future.

dowd is done.
the constitution prohibits ’standing armies’.
industrial foods are cancerous, as is environmental degradation.
a home garden can reduce the risk of cancer and positively address environmental meltdown. and, it’s a good place to plot the restoration of the constitution.

happy planting!

Dowd also has a long interview posted at Frontline (PBS) under the heading of Karl Rove-Architect of… the transcript of his interview is long and interesting if you want insight on the Dowd before (or even as he was) disillusioned with Gnarly Karly.

Dowd did his job - he got us to the jump-off point. AIPAC has put its foot down GOP & Dems agree, we’re off to Iran!

I think you raise an interesting point about Dowd’s sophistication in trying to “redeem” himself. If I were to place a cynical hat on, I’d say he is playing for the long term gain. He sees the extreme right of the R-party is going down; he sees he played a significant role. But he also sees the R-party is going to go nowhere without the essential Fundamentalist Christian wing who are presently dividing–the outcome of that division is unclear. There are (believe it or not) “moderating” influences developing in it and I think Dowd sees them as the future. He knows the R-party is going to self-destruct or in some way rehabilitate itself by denouncing the Cheney-Bush transgressions. I’d say Mr. Dowd’s “testimony” is directed to the more forgiving moderates in the Christian Right who are on the rise, and he wants to play with them now. Given the way Dems are cutting him no slack (other than giving him air time to recant), he probably figures some R’s in the future might need his expertise to consolidate power within the remnants of the R’s.

Oh, rigggghhhht, Mr. Dowd. It’s all fun and games until someone loses a son.

Well, Blair did announce his pullout of troops the same week as it was announced that Prince Harry was going over there to be stationed, hey, right there where the pullout was.

Just think — if they could call up George P. a few years early…
