Sampson is just a punk. They should tell him to just get the hell out of the Senate chamber. It’s time to demand that Abu be brought to account for this charade.

It is unbelievable that there is so little accountability; that lists of names just appear out of nowhere and disappear into Sampson’s memory hole; the lists are not vetted with anyone at DOJ, that the AG signed off on lists that he had nothing to do with compiling or discussing, that the AG turned over the position of Chief of Staff to a punk like Sampson. This is unbelievable. Makes FEMA look like a model of managerial efficiency. Unbelievable.

President <strike>Nixon</strike> Bush.
Now More Than Ever.

Implying that Abu’s NOT a punk?

2 issues
Candor of AG
Patriot Act provision - concerned
Questionableness comes into sharp focus now.

AG needs to come in and will.

Should have just said it was Pres. Prerogative.

These clouds will last lifetime for the damage done to these USA’s for not being candid..

Were you aware of complaints about Ig re: voter fraud. AG told me Rove told him about Ig.

Mueller testified he was not consulted or aware of voter fraud probs that should be invest.
Did you consult with FBI?
No. I don’t think so.

Did you ever ask them this? Any independent checking on whether complaints creditable?
Doesn’t it trouble you that they were fired that way?

DAG asked me to add Kevin Ryan to list…did you check to see if it was true? No, I relied on DAG.

They were put on a list, approved…sent around..I relied on Senior leaders.

Re: borders. NM 2nd in Immigration. No written on voter fraud…

Conclusion: Was finest, promotions, best border records, etc., then between October and Nov. fired for something that happened.

So do you think he should not have been fired. Not in hindsight. If choice up to you, would you now put him on list now,
In hindsight, no I would not.

You stated not aware because of specific cases of prosecution…
Not unreasonable to imagine…WH A, called Justice B, called C…come up with another reason for political reason.
I was not aware of it.
Your lack of awareness does not prove that it didn’t happen.

If they are considered “civil servants” they cannot be summarily dismissed, they do not serve “at the pleasure of the president.” Neither Reagan, nor Clinton nor Bush could have fired the whole lot of them at one time.

This is why one of the senators was asking Sampson earlier if he knew of any pressure from anyone for career jobs. A career job is safe. A political appointment is not. It’s obvious why someone in a “pleasure of the president” position would want to convert to a career employee.

I don’t know how to prove this but tomorrow I’ll see what I can find. But it’s logical. And it’s something I’ve heard and witnessed with every administration going back to Reagan.

I don’t mean to “fight” with you because you and I are both on the same side in these hearings, but I am certain that political employees are not provided the protections that civil servants are. Your friend at the DOJ needs to research “political appointees” specifically.

Brisingamen @ 292

PatVa @ 247

But the thing is that these people are not “Federal Employees” as in career civil servants. That almanac - as well as the rules and regs themselves - apply to career civil servants. These attorneys are political appointees and are not subject to the civil service requirements. At least that’s my understanding. (30 year Fed here.)

Pat — I’ve been handling personnel records most of my career with the Feds. I just talked to a friend who works with DOJ, and he says the Almanac is right, that the USAs are covered by OPM regs. They’re considered ‘civil servants’ too.

Schumer: let’s go over so-calle dperformance problems. President had complaints. There were complaints about Iglesias not being agressive on voter fraud.
Sampson: er uh, yeah. Rove blah blah
Schumer: you know he taught a symposium on voter integrity. One of two to be invited to teach.
Smampson: No, I didn’t know.
Schumer: Did you ever investigate complaints? Do independant research? You just took it all at face-value and fired?
Sampson: er, no, I just, Margolis, er uh. List was circulated among senior staff.

Schumer: Fall 2006 in run-up to the election..I remember learning from AG about complaints to AG in 3 districts…re not investigating voter fraud.

Who put Iglisias name at that late date core to the investigation.

Comey, he was one of our finest. Isn’t that correct?
I dont know.

I believe I had him on a list of possible candidates for removal.
But you said he was diverse upcoming…
cites more positive reviews….

recently as 2006 Battle memo…good review.

So we have a lengthy record of good…let’s delve into.

cites…all positive reviews of Iglesias, and that he did not appear on the list…doesn’t appear until 11/15/2006..

Our focus is on how Dept. dealt with complaints.
I don’t remember date when it was decided..had discussions with others which resulted in 4 additional names including Iglesias.

One negative review in 2005, but didn’t cause him to be put on list in 2006, yet he ended up on list.

What happened between 10/172006 and 11/15/2006?
Margolis said he wasn’t strong manager.
When? Before 9/13? I don’t remember..was it fairly recent. No. Question remains. Why Margolis remarks didn’t trigger his name onto the list in October. Must have been something else. Somebody must have told you something.
Late October. Those DAG, Goodling, self, etc., went back and 4 attorneys were added. Don’t remember who might have been there. Did you talk with any Cong. during Oct. No.
AG? Not to my knowkedge.
Karl Rove? I don’t know.
You would have no recollection of anyone else.

Monica Goodling met with NM Repub, but I’m not sure when. I just remembered.

Only reason Iglesias removed was because of calls from members of Congress?

I don’t know. I don’t remember. After he was on list I spoke with DAG.
Domenici wouldn’t mind because he wasn’t satisfied.

Sampson. Er uh now it’s Mr. Margolis who had the complaints about Iglesias. He was not put on list cause of Margolis
Schumer: o.k so if it wasn’t Margolis, what happened in between? Who put him on list?
(Rove and Domenici )
