Mwahahahahahahahahaha.
It's just as you always suspected.
Yes, we peace-loving, granola-eating, dirty effing hippies are really Satanists — and we're not afraid to prove it.
Just look at the picture above. Look at the poor widdle Peeps, their food-coloring eyes glistening with fear as they contemplate their imminent doom in a hideous arcane ritual.
They're on a microwave-safe plate. Each of them rests on a point of an unhallowed pentagram. I've cleaned out the inside of the nuker. I've even unhooked the smoke alarm.
Only one thing — ONE THING — can save these little bits of sugar and gelatin from a fiery demise. And that's if you, dear reader, pick up a copy or two (or eight) of Marcy Wheeler's grimoire book, Anatomy of Deceit.
You know what to do. The Peeps are calling on you!

already bought it!!!!
Phoenix woman!
I already bought it, too.
damn. i was going to thank the academy….
The Justice Department also said yesterday that Monica Goodling, a senior counselor to Gonzales who worked closely with Sampson on the firings, took an indefinite personal leave from her job on Monday. A Justice official said that she is still employed there but that it is not clear when she will return.”
Huh???..Is she vacationing at the bottom of the same lake where ‘Fredo’ was last seen…
oh…and BUY the BOOK!!!
Already bought it, read it, and am passing it around.
I’m conflicted. I hate peeps. If I buy the book will you must nuke them anyway?
geeze, I missed the last thread becuase I was in the garden!

She sleeps with da fishes.
Does this mean that sales of the book are not going as well as expected? You’d think that if all regular FDLers bought the book, sales would be doing fine. Especially if Dkos readers were also buying.
Nooooooo! I’m on their side. Power to the peeps.
Paul @ 7
Well, those particular Peeps actually wound up in the trash can, but I can get another box and nuke those. :-)
‘Mornin’, everyone!
Had not known that Fiestaware was nukeable. Thanks for the home ec tip!
Nuke ‘em. Peeps are a personal weaknees of mine, but never had ‘em fresh from the microwave. Can’t wait to try ‘em. Yum.
Ann in AZ @ 10
I have no idea how book sales are going, actually — I just wanted to do a post featuring Peeps, microwaves, and Anatomy of Deceit.
I’ve tried to help with Marcy’s book. Does it count if you buy copies for your friends and relatives?
Gotta get this in front of someone. This has not been analyzed, I believe.
According to the Los Angeles Times article this morning on the US Attorney firings, the “failure to enforce immigration” excuse for firing Carol Lam and others was made up as a story line on Nov. 21 by Tasia Scolinos, the chief Justice spokeswoman, in an e-mail to Cathy Martin (whose name you will remember from the Libby trial):
This is from the 18-day gap emails.
And it proves that the immigration story is a fraud (which we knew, but here it is in black-and-white).
And that means that we now have documentary proof that Carol Lam was fired for another reason.
(Which is getting very close to showing obstruction of justice.)
Oh, well I’m glad to hear that!
Don’t do it, Rambo!
Possibly the worst acting ever.
I do not negotiate with terraists. Go ahead and nuke ‘em.
I got the university library to be a copy. Does that count?

It sure is! I use it in the microwave all the time!

Well, dang! How many do I need? Is one for each eye enough? I already gave one to my mom.
Marcy’s book: it slices, it dices – it makes a great gift.
OK, I’m in again. Bought one last week and sent it to Waxman.
I bought a book AND had my local public library order one (hint…hint)
Phoenix Woman @ 23
Buy.
It’s possible to roast Peeps over a BBQ.
In the meantime, we bought three copies of Marcy’s book. Hopefully, we’ve saved some Peeps from a roasty, toasty demise.

I’m with Paul; I’d prefer it PW if you asked us to buy the book or you wouldn’t nuke those peeps.
BTW, Laura Belle says those peeps go great with beans, and Junya is never happier than after she serves ‘em for Easter brunch.
Peeps and beans, oh my!
I was gonna buy another but I finally found my copy this morning in a tote bag with one of my husband’s socks, a pair of my son’s boxers, Hannibal Rising and a Skippyjon Jones soft toy. It’s my lucky day!

The other day I called my US House Rep, Trent Franks office, in support of the subpoenas about the investigation into the forced resignations of the USAs. The aide I talked to insisted on giving me some bogus talking point arguments, and when I mentioned Carol Lam, she again cited her record on Immigration prosecutions. My response was that she had half of her staff working on immigration cases. She said Lam wouldn’t prosecute immigration with less than six people involved and gave me some statistics that I can’t remember and didn’t follow very well, since I’m not a political aide to a Rep.
Subsequently I heard that there is a letter from DiFi complaining about the lack of prosecutions of immigration cases in her district. I think the letter was read verbatim on TV or somewhere, and it sure didn’t sound good. I would sure like to know the truth about that letter, what motivated such a letter, etc. Especially since Feinstein has been so involved, along with Schumer, with this issue. Anybody know what the deal was?
Phoenix Woman – was reading the dump last night and stumbled into it after reading the DOJ analysis of Carol Lam’s immigration prosecution statistics plotted against other “similar” districts. There’s a definite “hit” of, “OK, we got her.”
Doc 032307_3, page 32.
When/if employment ever returns my way, then most assuredly will comply and add to the library.

Man, oh man. Prof, are you still here?
Here’s your obsetruction of justice, methinks.
This is sort of related:
James Olson, former spook, gave a lecture that was broadcast on CSPAN this morning. In the question period he opined that Plame was not subject to the IIPA, that Libby was a good public servant who had become involved in something political and it was just too bad, and Plame had “broken our code” by allowing herself to be used politically.
He’s pushing a book. I figure Marcy might want to take him on, or Larry Johnson, if you’re out there. Given the view he expressed, it shouldn’t take any time at all for the MSM to get him lots of free promo time for his book, so he can talk about poor widdle Scoots. Pushback time.
GSD @ 30
Do you have many ants or other despicable vermin?
newtonusr @ 41
Does this come before or after Scolino’s Nov. 21 memo?
If after; the link is powerful.
Even if before, could it be that they were testing out various theories at DOJ?
I got the book – the peeps are saved!
OT, but just need to say I was shocked this morning as I was watching TV – not that I should have been, of course, but this I found completely unctuous.
CNN had a report on its “version” of the yesterday’s House bill and it’s the most biased crap I’ve heard, even out of CNN, in quite a while. Considering the reporter, though, I’m not at all surprised – John Roberts – he’s the one that was on the Larry King Show some months ago and was caught, along with the winger guy, ridiculing Randi Rhodes (who was also a guest on the show) during commercial breaks. We know very well about the nature his “reporting.”
Anyway, his report this morning about the House bill was, in essence:
1. Dems twisted arms and bought votes
2. It’s all “just political posturing” (he really said that!) because Bush has said he’ll veto – the whole thing basically means nothing
3. Dems said they’d be different but they’re not – it’s packed full of portk
4. Some of the pork is “legitimate” – like the aid for Katrina victims – “But look at this! (in a shocked, accusatory tone) – all this money for spinach growers and peanut storage (Roberts is clearly “aghast” at this, of course)
5. And finally Roberts gets some other guy to say something like “and democrats promised to be fiscally responsible – harumph”
This was just the most disgusting display by CNN – truly reprehensible – a “news” network presenting GOP talking points as facts. I would not be surprised if they got the text for the entire report straight from the RNC – it was that bad.
Looks like the corporate media are getting scared this war may actually come to an end…
Other ways to support Marcy’s first book :)
1) Ask your local bookseller to carry it.
2) Ask them to display it prominently.
3) Write a book review for yr local paper.
4) Write a book review at amazon or other online seller [easy to do] and don’t forget the stars rating.
5) Give recs to others who have already written online book reviews.
you obviously missed lord of the peeps.

Phoenix Woman, is there an “after” picture??? I’d be extremely curious to see that.
I bought Marcy’s book, read it with delight and a lot of anger mixed in. My 86-year old politically active Mom is getting one too. I cannot give her my dog-eared, writing in the margin copy, only I can make out that writing.
On the Peeps, I always buy a bunch for my wife because she likes them so much. I am not sure I am doing the right thing for her health, but it is a source of enjoyment for her at this time of the year. No nuking of Peeps at this household.
Bought the book. Love the book!
everhopeful: Always remember, the GOP gave the corporate media three big gifts:
1) They repealed the Fairness Doctrine.
2) They gutted the FCC’s anti-trust regs.
3) They gave them (and other big corps) massive tax cuts.
No one should be in the least bit surprised that they favor Republicans. (The GOP’s biggest zip code for donations is in LA.)

Hmm…never saw that one, but you just reminded me of “Lord of the Pounce“.
Scolino’s Nov. 21 email to Cathy Martin (with Martin’s incoming):
Tasia Scolinos: For her great service handling the news media during Katrina, she got promoted to the Dept. of Justice:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasia_Scolinos
She donated $2,000 to George Bush’s reelection campaign:
Fundrace 2004: Neighbor Search
By the way, she told the press on March 15 that Gonzales had no recollection of any meetings while he was White House Counsel:
PR Newswire
Buy multiple copies of ANATOMY OF DECEIT to give as Xmas/Holiday gifts. Thanksgiving is only eight months away.
ANATOMY OF DECEIT is one-stop-shopping on Traitorgate that you cannot get anywhere else. It’s also written in a much different style from FDL and TNH posts:
From page 84, Chapter 5: “Beat the Press”:
This passage is consistent with the Pulitzer quality that runs through all 175 pages.
PW, love the visual.
Another Peeps page.
Best laugh of the morning, WaPo headline:
Bush: Democrats Should Drop Partisan Politics

.
I can’t wait to see every way Darrell Issa was involved in this. My district needs some decent representation.
OT, I can’t stop thinking about Pat Tillman,
a couple of things, nobody here needs any convincing that Bushco is criminal…before I read blogs, I used to listen to sports radio. That bunch (Jim Rome) is pretty rah rah rah pro-military, the “do what’s right for your country” stand. So they all thought Pat Tillman was the greatest American hero, when it came out that the NFL military poster boy was shot by friendly fire and then covered up, it outraged all those sports nuts. It was an issue they could grasp. The military corruption hit on their hero. I love Pat Tillman for waking up MANY people. As I read more about the Pat Tillman cover-up, I learned Pat was very outspoken against the war. Here was a very high profile person, who was going to be on every talk show when he returned home to talk about the war. That wasn’t good for war PR. So there are serious questions to be asked about cover ups before and after Pat was killed by friendly fire. I havn’t read everything yet, but there are lot of questions
Waxman can’t keep up with all the investigation!
Sorry, I got that turned around.
Scolino’s Nov. 21 email at 1:20 pm was followed by Cathy Martin’s request (since Martin apparently isn’t good in Geography):
to which Martin replied:
Let’s see: the southern borders of Michigan, Nevada, and Washington are Ohio, Arizona, and Oregon. I can see why there would be concerns in Oregon about Californians immigrating, but would anyone from Arizona really go to Nevada, creating an immigration enforcement problem there?
But on the other hand, Cathy Martin’s memory skills are, uh, incarcerating.
Has anyone located the DOJ immigration enforcement chart, and can provide a link?

Sounds like you might want/need to buy another copy of the book if you ever plan for your nose to get close to the one you have!!
I’ve requested that the fairly vast library system in our suburban MD county buy Marcy’s book and have been assured by a friend who’s an employee there that they’re doing it.
Christy had a post earlier this month I believe about an unsettling number of current West Point cadets buying into the Jack Bauer motto “whatever it takes” even in their 4th year of military training when they had been taught otherwise. At least one West Point professor was profoundly troubled by this unprecedented development. Doubt TV’s ‘24′ could single handedly change institutional ethics.
Wondering if the Neocon interference with the DoJ and the above development in our military colleges are all of a piece. Don’t West Point applicants require a letter from their hometown Congressmen and Congresswomen?
Weren’t necons in the majority 4 years ago? and wasn’t the neocon agenda front and center then?
The other disturbing trend in our professional military has already been highlighted: the increased Christian religious expression in the military to the exclusion of other religions and any ‘nonbelievers.’
Seems like someone is planning a Holy Crusade.
Are the replacement US Attorneys from different religious backgrounds? I hope so.
Curious thing. Issa’s website is down this morning.
Shoot, I’m sorry. I focused on times, not dates. Ignore my snark about geography.
Back to the original.
On Nov. 17, Martin asks “which ones are they” and on Nov. 21 Scolino lists the 6 as being fired.
Then Scolino proposes a reason.
so we need to go back and find the context of Martin’s Nov. 17 message.
sorry for disturbing your Saturday morning with my last posting on geography, which was wholly unwarranted.

Lets see….
Arizona…. investigating Renzi and Kolbe
CA San Diego …. Investigating Cunningham which broaden into Jerry Lewis which leads to the Los Angeles USA who quit in the middle of the Jerry Lewis investigation to work for Rep. Jerry Lewis legal team???
And the San Diego investigation when it gets into the MZM and the 30 front groups that were receiving government contracts where surprisingly every one of the so called employees of the front groups donated $2000 each to the RNC. I call it using OUR tax dollars being laundered to fund the Repugs.
Nevada…. wasn’t there some investigation of the Governor leading up to the Nov elections?
BTW… Paul Charlton AZ USA was rated NUMBER ONE of the 93, so where is the investigation about Kolbe playing pattycake with Pages on a Colorado river trip?

I know seven kids now attending one or another of the three main military service academies. Friends of my daughter or ex-students of my wife or of mine. One is Jewish, three are mainline old-school Protestant, one is Catholic, and two are evangelical Christian. The last two attend Colorado Springs. From what I’ve been able to ascertain talking to the kids, their parents and friends, the only academy which has become a rats’ nest for the Christofascists is the Air Force Academy, and it is only getting worse there. Three out of the seven kids’ sets of parents are highly critical of Bush’s wars.
By and large, these kids aren’t different from the kind of kids who went to the academies 40 years ago when my HS friends went there. Beyond the obvious fact that kids now are SO different than they were in 1967, that is.

Ann in AZ @ 40
This sounds like stuff based on the New York Times article this week, and it’s pretty bogus — TPM explains why. The letters about Lam were from Republican congresspersons, including Duke Cunningham. The article mentions that Feinstein wrote a letter expressing concern about border enforcement, implying that Feinstein is being insincere in her questioning of Lam’s firing. However, though the article juxtaposes mention of that letter with the Republicans’ letters, it doesn’t actually say that Feinstein’s letter was about Lam specifically, which suggests to me that it probably wasn’t. (Schumer isn’t mentioned in the article at all, and the there’s no indication the letters weret read on TV or were made public before this scandal broke.)
So no, Feinstein was not “so involved,” and as Josh says at TPM, there’s plenty of evidence that immigration cases were just a convenient cover for getting rid of Lam after she started prosecuting Republican lawmakers.

Terry Olson @ 80
Are you following it on Talking Points Memo? Not too many Issa connections so far, but there are some.
bought it, just started reading it this morning.
Prof @ 88
Part of what was happening in that period was an effort to determine whether Bush approval would be needed From an LA Times article:
From OPM, Q&A for political appointees:
“11. If I resign, will I be eligible for unemployment compensation?
If you resign by request due to a change in Presidential administrations or agency leadership, you should be eligible. If you resign before being requested to do so, you may not be eligible. To assure that State unemployment offices are aware that your resignation is by request due to a change in Presidential administrations or agency leadership, it is important that this be clearly stated in your written resignation and indicated on the SF-50 and all UCFE claims inquiry forms.”
Resigning on request = constructive discharge.
These folks were fired. Still can’t find any indication that the President delegated his hiring/firing authority. If no such delegation exists, then the President effectively fired them. Some have argued this is a moot point, since they resigned. I disagree. The responsibility for these forced resignations should be placed where it belongs, with the President.
Emptywheel’s current post at Dkos, Beware the Shiny Objects.
Peeps deserve to be nuked!
Think I’ll wait ’til next week to buy Marcy’s book.
Here’s how the BusChen administration gets its peepdom nuked…
Imagine a failed star… a white dwarf that just couldn’t cut it anymore. Now the pressure builds and the star just can’t take it anymore. How does it detonate? From within.
The first scenario is hard on the star. It begins as a kind of heartburn. It burgeons up through the ultradense neutron amalgam like a mushroom cloud rising from a pacific atoll.
The explosive bubble erupts through the surface and propagates around to the other side of the erupting orb and begins to penetrate the outer surface as gravity reclaims the ejected matter.
The explosion fails to render the star defunct, and it survives this primary challenge.
But wait… there’s more! Election day triggers a larger disruption within the core of the doomed star. This time there is no containment and the mushrooming momentum bursts through the surface and overcomes the gravitational influence of the now unviable entity. The exothermic decomposition of the matter contained in the heaving star-mass envelops the entity as the polar re-entry of the disintegrating mass is sufficient to disrupt the space-time boundary and the star explodes in an orgasm of light and heat. The star, exhausted and consumed, ceases to exist except as a memory and an object lesson to the observer… all political self-righteousness ends in failure. Spectacular, uncontainable failure.
The end.
I was holding out cuz I was secretly hoping EW would do a private book signing here for the thermometer people (of course, with another bit to FDL equal to the retail price, hint hint…).
Alright, I am off to Amazon and will have to track her down when she comes to the Bay area!
Redshift @ 107
Yes, I am. It’s fascinating. Thanks.
Redshift @
105
Thanks, Redshift, for the clarification. I really was wondering where all that came from, and I’m sure your right. There was some conflating going on making it sound as if Feinsteins complaints were to the Justice Dept. and directly undercut her support of Carol Lam.
BTW, during that same conversation with Franks aide, she also said, “Well, did you know that McKay is a Democrat. Bush did not fire all of the USAs at the beginning of his first term. He held some over, like McKay, who is a Dem.” That statement may be somewhat paraphrased, but it’s pretty darn close. Now ask me if I was disgusted by the time I hung up.
Kyle Sampson still works for the Justice Department at the same salary. Monica Goodling still works for the Justice Department at the same salary, except she’s not currently working. Nice work, if you can get it.

Tired Fed…
It seems to me that the Emperor’s attempt at highlighting “they resigned” has flopped. As a dialog continues to grow, and everyone is not adopting his catch phrase — They resigned — then that “spun” talking point is over.
Also, it seems to me that most lawyers don’t like liars. So, while Gonzo is traveling around meeting with various remaining USA’s yesterday’s news about a flat lie being uncovered is bound to make them more cynical about his guy.
My bet, is that in the coming days they — USA’s — will start being much more effusive. What do they have to lose? They have job protection now, and know they need to find work in January of ‘08 anyway.
Look for “Lots of Canary’s” in the coming weeks.. What Fielding and Rove are doing now, is puffing up the value of Gonzo’s head so when they do offer it, the opponents will say, “enough” and all this will go away. They are really that dumb.
Has anyone ever met a deep sycophant that had a lot of native intelligence? I haven’t. This is the Naked Emperor’s Achilles Heel…

By the way, Peeps went on sale for like 90% off after Easter last year, and we got some. The *only* way the kids ever ate them was nuked. They liked how crunchy the sugar got.
Ann in AZ @ 116
Wow. Only a modern Republican could believe that “Bush didn’t fire all Democrats” equates to “this wasn’t partisan.” How debased the GOP has become.
newtonusr @ 125
It was truly a thing of beauty.
Anyone who knows educators, Journalism teachers/professors, History, Government, Civics,…., ask them to consider using ANATOMY OF DECEIT as a text book. Teachers are already making syllabus and book purchase decisions for Fall 2007.
ANATOMY OF DECEIT is extremely timely and perfect for classroom use. The content has also been completely validated by the guilty verdicts against Scooter.
Yikes, you really know how to twist a person’s arm.
Okay, okay … heading to the Amazon button on the homepage now. But I want to see a photo posted soon that proves via some kind of time stamp that those Peeps are still alive and well.
Prof @ 76
Prof, this is fabulous. Send it to Christy and Marcy.
Very O/T
Last nigh, or actually early this morning before I went to bed I was reading about possible abuse and extended detentions for youth in Texas. I can’t remember where I read it. I was sure it would be big topic today. I see nothing. Being as Bush was govenor of Texas—- Some youth are being sexually abused by law enforcement personel while incarcerated.
I already bought it. Save the peeps.

Great catches.

Mauimom @ 90
Yup. Though “ten thousand nuns and orphans” was good, too. And who could ever forget the Bassomatic 76er?
katymine @ 118
I would sooooo love to see Issa taken down by this. He’s the punk who started and paid for the recall drive to zap Gray Davis, because he wanted Davis’ job. Of course, he didn’t get it — the Pete Wilson faction wouldn’t allow it, but they would gladly take advantage of his undermining Davis, so they ran Ahhhnuld and won.
But if the kids are not different, their lack of acceptance of military ethics is unprecendented per the West Point professor who has noted the change in attitude.
Makes me think that these 4th year cadets are receiving messages of encouragement from adults outside the classroom. Their easy dismissal of traditional military ethics reminds me of Cheney’s dismissal of ‘Old Europe.’ It’s a new American Century and New Rules apply according to the neocons.
Only 3 out of 7 sets of parents are against Bush’s war?!
Up in smoke.

And add clucking sounds to make it more realistic!
Well, no sound-track on this one, but (natch) great minds on the Toobz have met 3/5 of this need already! :)

Peep jousting, here it is. Viewer discretion advised.
A question for TiredFed, if you are still here:
Know any angle of the Hatch Act that could be at play here? If memory serves me, one can donate to a political campaign, BUT one cannot do active work on a political campaign.; eg Be an organizer or consultant. Is that true? If not, what are the current rules under the Hatch Act?
Susan in Iowa @ 48
Susan OT,
Did you catch the McClaskey Civil Rights story that mentions Matt Dummermuth, assistant civil rights attorney to USA of Cedar Rapids?
I gave the story to Waterloo Courier which has two good articles today. sorry no linky but go to March 23, McClaskey Wash Bureau
Bought it already. Reading it now. Is emptywheel going to stop by and tell us how the book is doing?
Full disclosure, I haven’t read Woodward’s STATE OF DENIAL or Isikoff’s HUBRIS.
LIST PRICE; PAGES; WEIGHT
ANATOMY OF DECEIT $15 175 8.8OZ
STATE OF DENIAL $30 576 16oz
HUBRIS $16 480 ? Only available in hard cover?
Based on the authors, however, ANATOMY OF DECEIT is a much shorter, less expensive, as well as being highly accurate and COMPLETE. Woodward and Isikoff are two of the biggest belt way insiders there are. You shouldn’t have to pay for their spin, when there is something of much, much greater value available.
Save the Peeps!!! I bought three copies of Marcy’s book, read it, and gave the others to two of my young adult sons who have Repub leanings. (Where did I go wrong in bringing them up!!!)

back again. sorry. had to step out. teenagers in the house. Hatch Act is quite severe on political activities for us. Can’t work actively on behalf of partisan political campaign. Cant use offices/property/govt. time to conduct political activities (there must be a heck of an exception for Rove, eh?). I’m not an expert. I just have to live under Hatch Act. I can contribute to party or candidates. We can even run as Independent (though only for local type offices as I recall, not for Federal positions). I am very careful, but I still have First Amendment rights.
eCAHNomics @ 151
Don’t feel bad; I’m pretty much in the same boat. I’ve said before that I feel like the Keaton family and my oldest son is Alex Keaton. His last visit here, 60 minutes had the chief economist at the GAO on saying that our economy is in dire shape due at least partially to too much debt and too much dependence on foreign energy sources. When I asked if he had been listening to this, his response went something like this: “Yes I am, and it’s because you and your friends have been talking too much and now some people are picking up on it. There’s nothing wrong with our economy.” He’s going to be 45 years old in August!
I’m sure that I’m so far down that probably many people have already said it, but it’s nice to come across someone who can remember, and pay homage to, the wonderful sick humor that was Spy Magazine at its zenith (Buy This Issue or We’ll Shoot This Dog).
First Page @ 150
“Saying you’re patriotic is like saying you have a big cock. If you have to say it, it’s probably not true.”
- Bill Maher, New Rules 3-23-7
It seems to me what you have highlighted could come into play with regard to these fired USA’s. In other words, the staff who was doing all the reviewing evening mentioning a candidate for the hit list’s political affiliation in a negative manner would, it seems to me, be a method of working for the Repug Party…
Though we know it is done all the time, I wonder how these higher up political appointees walk around unscathed while the average Civil Servant has to walk on eggs.
This is really Fascism, isn’t it? You’re a member of “the party” or you will get harassed..
If I recall, political appointees are exempt from Hatch.. No?
TiredFed @ 154
New thread, Blue America
Blue America Finally Welcomes Carol Shea-Porter.
Rep. Shea-Porter of N.H. and Howie Klein will be with us.
As far as a Hatch angle on JusticeGate, I don’t see one on the firings. To me, the relevant issues is who had the authority to fire these folks (again, a forced resignation is a firing; DOJ gave them a date certain to be gone and even wrote their resignation letters for them). My sense is that this scandal is a lit fuse that leads back to a charge of impeachment. It may lead only to Gonzalez, if the President delegated the authority to hire/fire U.S. Attorneys. If no such delegation of authority exists (and I have searched high and low for it), then the President is responsible and accountable, no one else (not even Cheney this time). There very well may be a Hatch Act issue WRT conduct of some USAs while in office. Research has shown a marked propensity to go after Democrats rather than Republicans. However, I have no idea how or to what extent the Hatch Act applies to USAs.
Still reading the TPMmuckraker review of the DOJ doc’s, here are a few hightlights…
http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/002809.php
BIG nugget here….
ANY idea why Spector did not recuse himself if he is getting his TALKING POINTS from the DOJ??
We so hope Marcy does a west coast book tour so we can proudly host her appearance and a book signing here on the Monterey peninsula.
BTW – YKos2007 Chicago convention site has a large booklist but Marcy’s book is not included. It should be for as the convention draws closer it would surely increase sales of her brilliant book.
Does it count if I just donate. I just don’t read books anymore. (Make it an audio book and I’ll buy.)
…let’s not forget why they did it to her, because Valerie Plame was married to this guy Joe Wilson who the Bush people hated becuase he busted them on one of their bullshit reasons for invading Iraq.
He was sent to the African nation of Niger to see if Niger was selling nuclear fuel to Iraq. They weren’t. It was bullshit. And he said so…
Valerie Plame’s husband told the truth about their lies, so they were willing to jeopardize and entire network of spies to ruin her life. Wow, even the mob doesn’t go after your family.

PW – that made me spew my coffee. I thought my dad was the only person to nuke peeps. He like to do ti because he can list them as “roast chicken” in his diabetes journal.
RealWorld @ 163
The book audio is a wonderful idea and I would certainly support such a venture as I’m sure others would as well. I ordered a dozen books and gave them as Valentine presents to my favorite friends including the editor of our daily newspaper.
What worries me about JusticeGate (I love that name for though perhaps it should be inJusticeGate) is that this has really take the focus off of the whole Plame outrage which in many ways is much more serious. (Treason vs Obstruction of Justice).
RealWorld @ 167
Another one that doesn’t seem to be getting any attention is the FBI misuse of the NSL’s
RealWorld @ 163
if Marcy does the audio (with a few choice comments from Joe Wilson) would be great!

Just finished the book last night
had a dream that I met Marcy and she signed it. yay!
Marcy, are you going to do another one to include the Libby trial?
{back to my perch}
Marcy,
This is copy #2. I bought this one for you to sign. When and Where?
Oddball
I bought the book, but what I would like to say is peripheral to that. In reading the comments on the various posts about this and other committed horrors.
I am, and am sure a lot of you are, heartened by the work that has been done to shed the light of day on these slimy, unctuously oleaginous-double barrel-same thing=bastards. we are on top of their machinations in a New York second, i.e. They cannot escape scrutiny, the blogosphere may not be mainstream but it is light years ahead of most news organizations, who are encumbered in myriad ways that prevent them from being spontaneous and effective in reporting what is really happening. Firedoglake’s reporting on the Libby trial, the document dump that reporters don’t have time to read, but we, in our sheer numbers, have. Devouring that information much to the chagrin of those effected. You can fool some of the people, but you can uh uh uh uh. Good on all of you, it is making a difference, we are participating in, and contributing to our countries democracy in a way that would warm the cockles of our founding fathers hearts… I had to use that word..what the hell are cockles anyway
(sigh)
What passes for unhallowed pentagrams these days?
Back in my cult days, we took pride in our work, with kiln-dried lumber, beveled edges and dovetail joinery.
Times were tough, sure. We had to walk to the sacrificial altar in the woods six miles in the snow, uphill both ways, but it was honest work…and we LIKED it! yak yak…..

excellent PW.
you’re swinging a big hammer there, hitting those nails on the head.
Thanks!
I bought the book, back when it 1st came out. Ever since, I’ve been not only talking to folks about it, but trying a sort-a teaser that has had good results too.
We go to lots of concerts, and usually arrive early. So we’re in the habit of reading while waiting. The absolute best kind of advertising on a small but continuing scale – simply sitting there (even if for the umpteenth time), reading a book, with utter fascination.
Try it. What’s the harm?
Lately it’s even more of a conversation starter. Wonder why?!
Go Marcy!!! Go FDL!

You’ll have to try another tack.
My son and I nuke stuff for fun (ask us about grapes!). And yes, we’ve nuked Peeps. Lots of them. Most seasonal varieties. Including the snowmen.
I thought that’s what they were for!
Just mailed a copy to a library this morning (with a note saying that the books in the box were the ‘Annoy a Conservative’ kit).
Back upthread, the ‘talking point’ where they were referring to McKay of WA as a Dem – he isn’t. That’s just more of their BS.
Bought and read, it was wonderful! Will get more copies for friends and family. We need to get Empty Wheels on Daily Show. We need to send one to Jon Stewart, to get the book out to more people. The book does such a good job of showing how Libby Trial and Iraq war are connected.
Please do not persecute the potentially Pagan Peeps around the pentacle. Practice peaceful persuasion.
Wow, all this on behalf of some Peeps who were threatened with nuking. Actually, you could do a series here. The late and lamented Spy Magazine once had a consumer testing outfit run Twinkies through the mill–nuking, freezing, boiling, dropping from the roof of a ten story building, etc. Think of the possibilities. The book would be number 1 on Amazon in no time. Think of the impact that would have.
I’ll gladly buy Marcy’s book Tuesday for a non-nuke today.
