Nice points - and nice title.
Hardly a surprise, since Imhofe is from Oklahoma. Oklahoma (I spent 3 1/2 yrs. there, btw) has 2 major industries, still - agriculture and oil-and-gas - otherwise known these days as energy.
And yes, while I was there Don Nickels was pretty close to the stupidest person in Congress, but Inhofe has him beat.
I can’t figure out how he got through med school.

The reason you can’t figure it out is the fact that Jim Inhofe never went to med school.

I was actually there yesterday, the ENTIRE room burst into applause when Boxer served Inhofe, it was the best thing ever. Too bad that jerk didn’t even care. What kind of public servant is so closed off? I have to think Oklahomans are morons for keeping him in office and obviously aren’t competent enough to be able to vote.

Great seeing Boxer make a total fool out of him. It’s still mystifying, even given the state, how this complete bought and paid for retrobate gets elected. He’s a living example of a wholly owned US Senator from the late 19th century.

In the environmental damage fines category, Koch Industries is the most cited corporation in the country.

When Bush took office Koch had $400 million in outstanding fines. The Bush administration got that lowered to $40 million.

Bush’s sister is married to one of the Kochs.

Birds of a feather …

Imhofe did not go to med school.

You are confusing James Imhofe with Tom Coburn, who is a DO in Family Medicine [he graduated from OSU medical school, which is the DO school; OU is the MD school].

Imhoff was an insurance executive in a small company. He developed a deep resentment of regulation and that drove him into politics.
But, later in the OT He took it away because of the sins of the Israelites. The real question is whether he intended for them to have it back now? Should we interfere?
——————-

I’m a Christian too, but I think the more fundamental issue here is that this man actually believes that explicitly theocracy should be the guiding force of US foreign policy in the middle east. This goes far beyond the “morality” arguments usually made by fundies, social conservatives and fringe ideologues. Even the evangelicals, as opposed to the fundies, would disavow Inhofe’s bigotry here.

You speak to my point exactly. Man cannot and should not employ OT laws as an explicit model for today’s society: not Iran, Iraq, or Iowa. There are many good principles (shall not kill, steal, etc.) but to assume a Messianic role in history is pretentious to say the least.

This vid reminded me of the Howard Beale rant in “Network”: “I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore.”

BBoxer spoke for all of us in firmly but gently reminding this moron that he’s not making the rules anymore, elections have consequences. Thank God!

A great moment.youtube link

I have a close relative in Oklahoma and she recently declared global warming a hoax cooked up by politicians; i.e., Democrats. .
——————

That amazes me. Who ARE these people? I’m amazed that people could actually be that ill-informed.
——————–

I’m surrounded by them! We’re coming out of the coldest Alaska winter on record, and the wingnuts are trying to use that as evidence that global warming is a hoax. I read one wingnut commenting from the lower 48 yesterday that it is so co-o-l-l-d-d-d in Alaska that the moose are being driven into the streets to escape the cold, deep snow. LMAO!

Moose go anywhere they want. Not without consequences, though. Several hundred are killed trying to cross roads every winter. Before some of us changed the operating rules of the Alaska Railroad back in 1990, some train runs between Anchorage and Fairbanks would kill 60 or more moose going each trip each way. They don’t even count the caribou railroadkill. We’re still trying to get a law passed on that. But it is more convenient for wingnut politicians to blame the wolves and Native Alaskans for caribou and moose mortality.

Oh, and I can tell you on good authority, urban pirate, that a lack of pirates is what is causing global warming. 300 years ago, there were lots of pirates and the world was cooler. Now there are very few pirates, and the world is heating up.

I saw that comment and your response. I think they are just being contrarian to piss us off. i just shake my head. Adam and eve riding dinosaurs indeed.

OT.

Fitz just gave a press conference to announce the indictment of a City of Chicago Democrat, Al Sanchez. After all the Sanchez questions, people started asking him about Purgegate and Gonzales and it was hard to hear the questions but I think someone asked him if he wanted to be AG.

On Gonzales: “There’s no way I’m putting one toe in that pool…..”

“I just got out of the D.C. Fishbowl and I’m not looking to jump back in.”

Then someone asked him about Patrick Collins, the great AUSA who prosecuted George Ryan. Fitz said a bunch of really nice things about Collins, then Collins came to the microphone and said, you have to bear in mind, the person who just said that “is a mediocre U.S. Attorney.”
