Your are absolutely correct. This is where the buck has to stop, and it’s a historical moment for Pelosi. I was really pissed when she “took impeachment off the table” back in May, 2006, (IIRC). She should have said something like “If any allegations of potential misconduct come before the Congress, we will pursue the facts wherever they lead, in accord with the fundamental principle of our Constitution and legal system that people are innocent until proven guilty. However if those facts do suggest probable guilt, we will pursue the matter in full accord with our legal and Constitutional responsibilities.”
