Forget all that Department of Justice stuff for now, my friends. We have something much more pressing to contend with, an urgent, urgent matter that requires our undivided attention.
"What is it, TRex?" you may ask. "Is Speaker Pelosi drawing up Articles of Impeachment?"
No.
"Is Karl Rove sending Abu Gonzales hunting with Dick Cheney?"
Close, but no.
"Is he sending him to Ken Lay's pharmacist?"
Heh. Not quite. It's even better than that. What, you may ask, could possibly be better than that?
It's a Right Wing blog-fight!! Aroo!! Arooooooo!! Sound the alerts! All hands on deck! Call the neighbors and wake the kids! Bring the popcorn, cos for once it's not Dean Esmay picking a fight with someone with higher traffic, oh, no, it's better than that. It's a veritable Clash o' the Titans!
In this corner, weighing in at 112 pounds, from the mean streets of Germantown, Maryland, Hot Air's Cavewoman in Chief, Michelle "We Call Her Wilma" Malkin!!
And in this corner, weighing in at 190 pounds, and boasting the same blood alcohol level as a bottle of vanilla extract, Teh Right Wing Associated Press, Matt Drudge!!
See, it goes a little something like this. The other night, on his radio show, Drudge had some choice words about the production values (such as they are) at Malkin's vanity-media project, "Hot Air":
Transcript:
Just ugh. The things I want to say right now. But we’ve got an FCC. The things I want to say. Maybe we’ll do, uh, uh, a commentary on the Internet like Michelle Malkin. Maybe I’ll stand in front of like a blue screen and hold a banana and start talking into the Internets. (Sneering tone) ‘This is Matt Drudge reporting on Hot Air.’ Agggh. You know. It’s ridiculous. Looks like, you know, Captain Kangaroo time, Michelle. Get real.
Damn! That shit is cold! True, yes. Hilarious, yes. But cold. Malkin can't help it that all the really creative and talented A/V people are liberals. She's really doing the best that she can with the meager, meager resources she has, i.e., all the talent and creativity of a half-saucer of lukewarm spit and an army of mouth-breathing, Klingon-speaking, dickhead fanboys falling over each other in their eagerness to be her minions.
Michelle responds!
We at Hot Air certainly don’t have the resources to look like the slicksters at CNN or the dinosaur networks. We don’t have multi-million dollar sets, graphics, and wardrobes like Katie Couric. We put substance first over bells and whistles.
What, you mean like that bit with the destroyed mosque? Or that shiteous piece of dreck you did reading Amanda Maricotte's work aloud? Oh, yeah, baby, that's some fine, fine "substance" you've got there. Trouble is, until we can send it off for a toxicology report, we're not entirely sure what "substance" it actually is.
Malkin, not content to flip her hair, slam her locker, and stand there with her lower lip quivering until someone takes her side, launches a sucker-punch at Mr. Drudge:
(You would think someone with a website design circa 1980 might appreciate our priorities.)
Ha, ha. That's funny, cos, you know, there weren't any websites in 1980. Or maybe there were, just nobody could see them cos they didn't have home computers then. (Oh! It's another Zen riddle. If a web site exists in an invisible medium, can Malkin's readers launch DDoS attacks against it?)
But jeez, Matt Drudge, are you gonna take that shit off some little jumped-up ex-Townhall chippie? The woman who claimed that Jamil Hussein didn't exist, and then tried to pretend that his actual existence was somehow proof of her claims? The woman who cited the Gathering of Eagles National Park Service Estimate of Saturday's march as fact, in spite of the fact that the National Park Service doesn't even do estimates of crowd size anymore?
But really, what on earth has got the normally implacable (i.e., "heavily medicated") Matt Drudge so peeved at Miz Malkin?
Gavin thinks he knows:
Girl, maybe you ought to stop dissing his boyfriend:
The CPAC I saw
By Michelle Malkin · March 04, 2007 11:15 AM[…]
Enter Ann Coulter.
Her “faggot” joke was not just a distraction from all the good that was highlighted and represented at the conference. It was the equivalent of a rhetorical fragging–an intentionally-tossed verbal grenade that exploded in her own fellow ideological soldiers’ tent.
(Drudge and Coulter conclude that the peasants are revolting at the 2007 CPAC.)
Oh, that's right. And this is where you have to be wary of nosebleeds and altitude sickness from the staggering amounts of irony in the air. Matt Drudge, a gay man, is pissed at Michelle Malkin for trying to pull a Tonya Harding on Coulter for using the word "faggot" at CPAC.
(There, there. Easy now. You're just not used to it. Deep breaths. Easy. Tip your head back. There you go. Better? The dizziness will pass, I promise.)
Malkin clutches her tiny gold cross necklace as she rears back with her bat and swings hard at Coulter's poor, defenseless kneecaps:
With a single word, Coulter sullied the hard work of hundreds of CPAC participants and exhibitors and tarred the collective reputation of thousands of CPAC attendees. At a reception for college students held by the Young America’s Foundation, I lambasted the substitution of stupid slurs for persuasion– be it “faggot” from a conservative or “gook” from a liberal–and urged the young people there to conduct themselves at all times with dignity in their ideological battles on and off campus.
I made something else explicitly clear: Not all of us treat the communication of conservative ideals and ideas as 24/7 performance art. You can and should use humor to convey your message. You can enlighten and entertain–without becoming a tired old schtick. You can joke without becoming the joke.
And Michelle knows from being the joke. She's had lots of experience in that area.
But this is all so much eyewash. If it's really, really going to be war between Malkin and Coulter, why fight through their proxies? Surely Coulter can smite Malkin with one hand tied behind her back. Come on, Annie! Where's that fighting spirit? Don't tell me you blew it all on the 9/11 widows. What are you going to say to that little trail of cat-sick? She's trying to knock you off the throne, girl. You better watch your back.
I would try to pick someone to root for, but in light of each combatant's contribution to society, I think group suttee may be the only solution. Although if anyone here is an innocent, it's poor Drudgie, who is letting his allegiance to the Coultergeist set him up in conflict against the woman with the most dangerously unhinged readers in all of blogging. We'll see how long it takes his personal information to appear online, or for the DDoS attacks to start against the Drudge Report.
I love the sound of Right Wingers infighting. It sounds like…victory.

Aw, I thought you were calling a Ladies Night at FDL! I even changed into my short skirt and stillettos!
(I lied. I have never worn, nor never will wear, stillettos.)
But, even if I was brought here under false pretenses, I lovey the idea of a right-winger blog fight. Heh.
Sorta related topic here: lately, there’s been a really annoying Quizno’s ad on TV. They’re advertising some grossly meat-laden sandwich, and at the end of the commercial, there is a woman who says something like, “This isn’t lackin’ any meat – and that’s what a real woman needs!” She then produces this bizarre laugh that makes her look & sound like she’s posessed. Every time I see that commercial, the psycho meat-mongering lady makes me think of Malkin. Am I the only one?
lolo @ 6
I saw LittleGreenHairballs was ranting about comments at HuffPo concerning Cheney’s clot. HuffPo has removed the comments.

It’s the gas emanating.
Time to don the gas masks like you said a couple of threads back, doc.
TRex… just saw the moving “Blog Wars” last evening on Sundance network. Mighty fine …
Looks like things got lively around here today. Good thing I was working away from the toobz, or it would have been another day without billable hours.
Group suttee. I love it.
BAck the Wingnut gurls, is this going to boil over on the TV appearances? It seems that Ann is usually on the Hannity Studdette and Michele is hanging with Bill’O. How can it be arranged to get them on the same show?
LandOfTheFree @ 10
Good Lord, I hate that commercial. Now it’s going to make me think of Malkin, too. Thanks a lot.
Well geez, did some librul actually call La Malkkkin a “gook”? Is she sure they didn’t say “snot”?

Yes the infighting is picking up steam from the Chimperor on down. Rove will be squealing like a pig under oath soon and as Arianna sez the turdblossem is about to hit the fan. I gotta say there is a certain pleasure in seeing the necons eating their own, it is the least they deserve…

That’s her anecdotal evidence that all liberals are crazed, cross-burning closet racists. She’s been so much more welcomed in the Conservatives’ Big Tent, she claims.
I’m going to do my darnedest to shoehorn the word “shiteous” into conversation tomorrow.
(Should I pronounce it like “shite-us” or “shitty-us”? I’d hate to say it wrong and come off sounding ill-bred.)
John “the Walrus” Bolton is on The Daily Show.
Does she know what they are doing in their “big tent” while thinking about her?
Wow – Josh Marshall has an extremely interesting new angle on the US Attorney purge scandal.
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.c…..013166.php
[snip]
As I said, this is one that’s been hanging in the background and many have been afraid to ask.
You’ll remember that the Duke Cunningham investigation spread out in several directions. One was into the CIA. Another was on to Capitol Hill. The big fish there was Rep. Jerry Lewis (R-CA), then Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. The Lam investigation in San Diego sparked the Lewis investigation. But the Lewis investigation itself was and is being run out of the US Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles. And that brings us to Debra Yang.
It is not at all uncommon for US Attorneys to leave their posts for private practice, very often for lucrative work as criminal defense attorneys. And a complex corruption investigation of a powerful political figure like Lewis can drag on for some time. So in isolation nothing would appear out of the ordinary or improper when a US Attorney like Yang resigned her post while her office was conducting such a high profile probe.
But of course it’s not in isolation.
It came right in the midst of the summary firings of several US Attorneys who were either investigating Republicans or failing to investigate Democrats. Yang left the US Attorneys office for a job at Gibson Dunn, the firm which happens to be the one representing Lewis. (Most lawyers would, I think, caution that this isn’t necessarily as questionable as it might seem on first blush. Gibson Dunn is a major national law firm based in LA. It’s a logical place for someone like Yang to go.) Yang is now one of three co-chairs of the firm’s Crisis Management Group, along with New York Partner Randy Mastro and GOP power player Theodore Olson.
And one other issue that might come into play here. If you look at the corruption investigations over the last two years, there’s an odd pattern of pivotal investigators and prosecutors getting fortuitous promotions or offers of employment in the private sector at key moments. Take a look at the DOJ’s Public Integrity section.
The Yang case is very different from the cases of the fired prosecutors, at least based on the evidence now on offer. To the best of my knowledge Yang has said that her departure was her decision. She wasn’t pushed. And no evidence has yet surfaced from within the DOJ that suggests otherwise. It may well just be coincidence that the two Southern California US Attorneys covering the expanding Cunningham-Lewis investigation left their posts within six weeks of each other. But this story so far has been unkind to those inclined to accept coincidences at face value.
Replacing the Coulter column with Malkin is like replacing the E. Coli in your hamburger with rusty razor blades. It’s still somewhat indigestible.
Gnome de Plume @ 15
Heh.
Thanks.
I made it myself.

It rhymes with “hideous”.
Sorry, Alton! There’s just something so unhinged about that woman in the commercial, and she does resemble Malkin a tad (especially the unhinged part).
Sorry. I suppose it’s better than their old ads that had what looked like a rat that went through a nuclear winter. That ad campaign made me never, ever want to eat at Quizno’s. Every time I thought about going there, I thought of that rodent running around the restaurant.
Drat – now I just put two bad commercials into your head.

Whoa – John Bolton on The Daily Show! Heh! What a day. Can’t wait to see what he has to say.

Someone find me a YouTube so we can claim it’s Malkin doing scut work to make up for how much money HotAir and PJ Media are losing!
Seriously, if anyone has a complaint about the format of this blog, perhaps they should take it up with Kobe…
Ooh – Bolton just said, in response to Stewart’s questions about the WH saying they won’t let their staff testify for Congress unless it’s closed door w/o oath & transcript, that (paraphrase here) the President should have the right to keep privileged conversations with his advisors private.
Um, Josh, are you saying that the President had direct conversations with his staff about these firings?
mmmm… juicy.
Bolton wasn’t there to promote a book or anything. It almost looks like the admin sent him. Very juicy, indeed.

So, to return to the topic of the post (are we allowed to do that on LateNite??) isn’t this a matter of OldNewMedia (Drudge) coming to the rescue of OldNewCommentatoress (Coulter)? Is this a generational fight or a philosophical (ha!!) difference of opinion?

Yes. I do believe that the woman speaking of the not lacking any meat and that’s what real women need is Malkin. Spread the word.
Right Wing women (real women like Malkin) love the meat just a bustin’ out of their subs. ‘Course Malkin barfs hers up afterward.

Sorry if my irritation at that shiteous commercial spilled over. I remember some study a long, long time ago that demonstrated that it didn’t matter if a commercial made a positive or negative impression. It was only the strength of that impression that affected consumers. The Quiznos marketing staff seem to have taken that to heart.

Here’s another way of looking at Yang’s story. It may be perfectly true that she wasn’t pushed out. But the same end could have been achieved by another means. Couldn’t the “pushing” have been on the law firm, to approach her with an offer of what appears to be a very sweet deal? Friends in high places, and all that.

For some reason I’ve been re-evaluating my opinion of Michelle Malkin. She’s not as bad as the rest of them. For one thing, she actually went to Iraq. Maybe she hung out inside the Green Zone, but lots of right wingers wouldn’t consider doing that.
She also denounced Coulter for using an offensive word. It may not be a lot, but it’s something. Remember, the crowd in attendance at CPAC laughed and applauded.
Because Malkin is Filipina, her attitudes about politics are shaped by the history of colonialism in the Philippines. Those people applaud individual accomplishment, even by cooperating with the oppressor. When Marcos was discredited in the West, the realization among his contemporaries that he was entirely self-made made him even more legendary.
None of this argues that Malkin is politically attractive. But compared to the truly loathsome characters on the far right – Hannity, O’Reilly, Limbaugh, et al. – she’s not so bad.

I’m gradually getting more people to add their voices over at the IBA blog, and sometimes I feel a little bad when there’s not much in the way of comments in response to their posts.
I’m not expressing this right, I’m sure. Because I’m tired. But the reason I included an excerpt was because I hoped it would make people more interested in checking out the post.

Terry Olson @ 105: “Because she had proven to Karl that she was a person willing to be purchased?”
Certainly possible. But I’m also thinking about the diary Rayne published at Kos last night. She’d encountered a name in the document dump, (Parsky, I think?), who has incredible influence in CA, including getting to nominate USAs and influence on judicial picks. Just understanding human nature, somebody like that could have approached the law firm, which was defending Jerry Lewis, whom Yang would be investigating, and “suggested” that they offer a financial deal few people would have refused. Yang takes a great new job, with no clue she’s been manipulated. Can’t attest to the accuracy of the report, but I did read that her deal was much sweeter than USAs moving to the private sector usually get.
Point being…these guys aren’t stupid, as much as many of us would like to think they are. And certainly capable of mixing up their methods. Harass a few into resigning, make sure a couple of others get offers they can’t turn down. Not saying it’s what happened, just suggesting there’s another way to look at it.

Nah. Mean, rude, brutish, unmitigated violence is the basic rethug biological imperative. They do, however, desire to be dominated, heart, mind and spirit by strong and ruthless leaders, but, invariably, they revert back to their basic instinct for internecine slaughter and unquenchable bloodlust. There’s nothing to be done about it. It’s just the way they are. Hobbes would’ve been proud… as would your average community of great whites

they don’t want to respond to investigative subpoenas, then make it an impeachment subpoena.
they want to up the ante–I see your investigation and raise you an impeachment.
This may be old news to y’all, but when you’re talking about repukes, let’s not forget Chuck Hagel, “Mr. maverick,” was one of TWO senators to vote with the Clusterfuck administration on the Patriot act today.
Hagel is NOT a friend to us. He’s as much an enemy as Boxer, Tauscher, Lieberfuck and Schumer.
Bush’s “offer” to have Rove testify off the record and not under oath doesn’t actually address Bush’s stated concern about a “partisan fishing expedition”, it merely allows Rove to answer questions deceptively or dishonestly without the accountability of consequences.
Bush’s terms include the “pre-condition” there is no transcript. As a consequence, there is then no opportunity for fact checking, and no simple way to inform the American public what was asked and answered.
Bush asserted that there was no wrongdoing in this affair. One has to wonder why most of his conditions have the effect of imunizing Rove from a perjury charge if he lies, and restricting access to the Q&A: no transcript, no coverage.
How ironic, that this oversight inquiry is a direct result of Abu Gonzalez having already made misleading statements about this issue, the terminations of the US Attorneys. Gonzalez also had testified innacurately in the NSA wiretapping inquiry.
With two strikes against Gonzlez, Bush is demanding a suspension of the rules, no strikes no balls, so Rove can hit one out of the park.
One way to invite “creative”, incomplete and inaccurate testimony would be to have Rove testify without taking the oath and without penalty of perjury.

katymine @ 123..As has pointed out in links to the Federal statute, lying to Congress is a crime..there is no mention of being under oath in the law. The problem is the law isn’t enforced.

It is much harder to prove lying to Congress when there is no transcripts.
Isn’t lying to Congress still a crime, whether or not you’re under oath? I thought that’s what Clinton was impeached on–not the BJ, but lying about it to Congress?
Oops. This has been answered while I typed my question.

I really dislike Matt Drudge, who will also say or do anything for money. I’m not sure I can explain my attitudes here. He’s odious, but Malkin is merely annoying. I think if enough people said Shaddap! she might actually do that.

How can we believe that?
Happy Birthday darkblack… wishing you many more happy ones to come too.
darkblack @ 137
Aw, happy birthday, db!!
katymine @ 139..I agree. Seeing people swear to tell the truth and then obviously lie is very powerful. It might be even more effective if they went back to the origin the word “testify” and had KKKarl Rove grab his testicles and swear to tell the truth.

I’ll be using this one for a post!
Interesting.
“One of two Republican lawmakers who attended the meeting, Representative Chris Cannon of Utah, said in an interview afterward that he had pressed Mr. Fielding on whether he “understood that a lie would be prosecutable,” even if the interview was not conducted under oath. “He said, ‘Yes, we understand that,’ ” Mr. Cannon said. Lying to Congress can be a crime even if the false statements are not made under oath.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/21/us/…..d=2&hp
The Administration has stated its intention to go to the mat with this. They absolutely refuse to be held accountable and they are willing to do whatever it takes to avoid it. They know that if they are caught out on this, it will soon be all over. That’s why they’ll go to the Supremes – their very own Supremes who installed the Boy King in office in the first place.
This is where the rubber meets the road, folks.
If we stand up and do the right thing here, we may be able to stop this criminal cabal. If we roll over now, we’ll never get another chance again.
Happy birthday, Darkblack!
Today’s GOPer word of the day is “Overreach”
The fax machines must of been burning up today to make sure that everyone was working on the GOPer WOTD

Um, is Tom DeLay wearing a rug?
katymine @ 123
Hey, Katymine!
I’m not sure why he didn’t swear in the FBI officers, but, in a sense, they’re already sworn in. All “shielded” officers – those who carry a badge – are sworn in. Which is similar to what politicians do when they take office. They swear to uphold the constitution and its laws. But, unlike politicians, they’re also called “sworn officers.”
When a Fed or any police officer appears in court, they’re sworn in, but Conyers may have been extending them some sort of courtesy. Again, I’m not sure why he didn’t.

Do you really think it bothers Malkin that the government put Japanese-Americans in internment camps 60 years ago? There’s no love lost between the Filipinos and the Japanese. Or between any Asian people and the Japanese.
Malkin gets singled out for her indifference to the Japanese because of an assumption that she’s a traitor to her fellow Asians. But there’s no solidarity between Japanese and Filipinos. That’s Western ethnocentrism.
I just sent the Today Show an email thanking Ms. Vieira for that. Maybe tomorrow, we’ll cover How to Write a Laudatory Letter with Meredith as our starting point.
I have a friend — a wonderful, kind, generous, and *extremely* liberal friend — whose name happens to be Michelle Malkin. And, poor thing, over the last several years, she has forcibly (and sadly) reduced to introducing herself as, “Michelle Malkin — no, no, not *that* one! Really! Just — no! ::shudder::”
I miss the days when my friend was anonymous, and not just for her sake …
Can someone explain something to me?
For about three years, the White House refused to comment on the CIA leak case because there was “an ongoing investigation.”
Today, President Bush commented on the U.S. Attorneys firing scandal, which is the subject of “an ongoing investigation.” And Tony Snow, Karl Rove and others have done the same.
What’s up with that?

So- what is the best course of action beyond hoping that our elected officials stick to their guns?
Seriously. I need to move beyond my outrage of the usual behavior from these sociopathic usual suspects. Where best to spend our energy?
I welcome actionable ideas…I have graphic skills. An illustration that metaphorically connects the dots? and I mean VERY few, concise, high level items- and connect the dots?
establish a “template” and then do a series? ie, here is the CIA leak, here is USA scandal, here is Sibel Edmonds’ being shut up- etc.
OR- connect the heart of why the pressure HAD to bear on these PARTICULAR attorneys. it would seem to me there is enough evidence already right there- sitting in the open- which can begin to populate something visual (chart) and demonstrate what is known.
If the committee can create their cute little powerpoint slide (complete with blacked out ominous “Unknown” box) for Val’s testimony, we surely can put together something revealing.
I am thinking START with Carol! She was on to some very, very dirty trails- hence the Issa crafted Border Patrol dust up – to obfuscate and stall.
In addition to Valerie’s testimony, I also think of Mr. Knodell and what Henry demonstrates, with his prosecutorial shot across their bow (the EO! and the failure to investigate). It is all sitting there.
“Karl’s Shop” has been bleeding for awhile- just ensuring it was always slow; so tedious and busy, in order to prevent the very explosive.
Welcome your ideas.
thanks

Hi ET -
THanks for your kind comment – I did see your note the next morning, and was too sleepy to figure out how to reply “hi, welcome – thanks for your generous spirit!” without seeming terse or smug (and then carbon life called).
I’ve never read Malkin, so I admit to a total lack of legitimacy for any pretense of informed opinion on her essays/books.
Malkin’s TV remarks provide more than enough reasons to loathe her.
My objection in 186 is with the commenter, not the Malkin. (I don’t think of her unless forced to.)
I loathe the racist speech in 186 for the formula:
in the original comment..written and quoted by the author of 186.
Again ET, thanks for your generous spirit. I hope my response is warm and friendly (thus my words reflect my heart) but ’tis hard to know with the toobz. :)

But between these wonderful women and their friends, I was exposed to some of the most intense racial hatred in my life.
It is strange that generic white Americans think of Asians, populating an immense land mass, as an amorphous group, all the same, hard to distinguish one from another. Yet, we’ve been drilled into thinking Palestinians and Israelis as distinctly and racially different, when they lived together, often amicably until very, very recently, in an area slightly larger than Long Island, for the past 4,000 years. Americans think of and our media portray Israelis as White and Palestinians as non-White. Bizarre.

I Googled her last night. She was not going along quietly. Hell hath no fury and all. And I got the sense that she took great pride in her work, that this kind of political gamesmanship to her was the lowest sort of personal betrayal.

If these experts are wrong, Leahy gets the match he’s been salivating for, DiFi gets her pound of flesh, and, pending comments from people smarter than me regarding contempt citations, we may get our “perp-walk” yet…
Dems: ignore the distractions, and swing for the fences for once.

FWIW, Kevin Drum:
Chiara “feels” like the stern but admired English teacher we all had. She was very proud of her accomplishments, and pretty savvy about the PR implications of a possible smear. I like that there’s more than a trace of ego in her.
Never having been “visited upon” by nuns (I grew up Lutheran), I don’t know how far off I am here.
I’ve been weighing this, coming up with naught. 190 what? Stones, tons, kilos? TRex, are you holding out on us? Surely there is a Jurassic system of weights and measures that hasn’t made wikipedia yet. Long overdue, if you ask me…

190 hands tall does not translate to 60 feet (I think)
Uppity Gal @ 212
Hi Uppity, so sorry you missed Jane’s “What Happens Now” post, your post would have been totally on-topic there.
Many of the issues you address are already being tackled. There are *thousands* of us out here. Trust in the blogosphere.
I’d say, get in touch with Rayne. She’s been busy on the USA firings for weeks, now that these e-mails have come out she’s swamped. Cross post your comment at Rayne-Today
And Kirk Murphy has an action plan in case the Supremes need to see some of the people they serve. All skills useful, graphics mentioned in point #1.
It’s show tim3!

Thank you.
Alright, I’m going to bed.
Good night!
Trex-Hers were the only emails in the whole tangle that were completely free of spelling and punctuation errors.
You’re right! I read through many of those docs last night, and kept thinking “spell check, people, it’s right there on your computer!”
Hers were easy to read.
punaise @ 287
Drum always seems to find the middle ground that’s mostly wrong. All the USA offices were living with big budget cuts, and that was particularly a problem with Ryan’s office. The grumbling there was noticeable for a long time, from what I’ve read. Similar situation in Cummins’ office–and he tried to address the situation by saying more resources were required.
Chiara, not sure about her office, in that regard.
Charlton–that “working outside of channels” had to do with his insistence that the FBI help nail down confessions by taping them. The “insubordination” in his case was because he didn’t demand the death penalty in a murder case where there was no body found, and no murder weapon recovered, and all the evidence came from drug dealers and informants with drug-related crimes they were trying to skate on.
McKay was being hassled by “Doc” Hastings because he wasn’t finding any vote fraud in the WA governor race, mostly because there wasn’t any to be found.
Drum’s head is far enough up his ass that his ears wiggle when he walks….

Fighting back is good.
Remember back when those rumors that Procter & Gamble was run by satanists and their logo of the man on the moon and stars was allegedly proof of the satanic connection? Well, P&G sued and won. Against 4 Amway distributors. Bwahahaha!
There’s no direct connection to today’s republic party, but Amway is heavily R leaning, and the use of lying telephone messages sounds kinda familiar…
It took over 10 years, but P&G beat the lying bastards. Good for them.
g’nite pups!
Ed*ard Teller @ 300
Not as far as I know. Perhaps some are waiting for hearing testimony that nails down their complicity in the firings. Yeah, it ought to be clear, already, that they were attempting to politically influence a US Attorney, but, maybe some want a bit more before lowering the boom on them.
M’self, I don’t think either of them have given a moment’s thought about resigning–not with a Dem governor appointing their successors–they’ll take their slap on the wrist from the ethics committees and go right on–the real damage may come later, at election time.
Ed*ard Teller @ 201
I was reacting to the horror that Michelle Malkin – herself an Asian-American – might defend the internment of Japanese-Americans in World War II. There’s nothing surprising about a conservative taking that position, and no reason to imply that she has no shame. Malkin’s defense of internment is shocking because people assume solidarity between Japanese and Filipinos. That’s a false assumption.
As to my suggestion that Malkin does it for the money … why is that a problem to some people? Nearly all media pundits do it for a living. Nobody should be surprised when professional writers behave like other performers. Publicity-seeking is all part of the act.
The best way to exploit a rift between right wingers, it seems to me, is to take sides. I don’t want to see Malkin and Drudge make amends to each other. Fights like this don’t happen often enough. When they do, the least we can do is cheer.

My Stars-
This must be a tough one. I wish I could have understood the person’s premise.
Ed*ard Teller @ 300
Wilson just can’t stay out of trouble’s way. The only thing more suprising is how her conduct in NM didn’t get her tossed in ‘06.
And we should be hearing the “want to spend more time with my family” bullshit from Petey regarding ‘08 soon enough.
Wil @ 256
We don’t know yet. But possibilities include Abramoff and Indian casinos, Blackwater, energy. All the states are border states, so maybe immigrant roundups or fences. Or maybe it’s just something that would have come out of another investigation, or may just something that she’d stumble on sooner or later.
Sleep well, gang. It’s gonna be busy all week. I’ll bring coffee in the morning. :)
daCascadian @ 298
I’m perfectly aware of the vicious ethnic hatreds maintained by many people in Asia, but I felt that our new friend was skirting dangerously close to making some very racist statements. Right wing people read this site, too, and the last thing I wanted to erupt in this thread was a pie-fight over Michelle Malkin’s ethnic background.
The people who hate us and want to discredit us would just love some juicy anti-Filipino quotes to tack to the wall at HotAir so they can talk about how racist liberals are. I’ve heard enough of that bullshit to last me through another 60 million years.
I’m sorry if you feel like that’s out of line. I would grant a regular more leeway, but this person was/is a stranger, so until their intentions are clear, statements like “Filipinos are in it for the money” are unacceptable.
Ol’ Pete won’t resign. Too much on his plate right now.
Wilson managed to skate by because she convinced Iglesias’ office to take on a state case that probably need not have been federal. Wilson’s opponent, Patricia Madrid–who wanted to pursue the graft allegations–was essentially locked out of the case by the feds, and then Wilson beat her up daily on the matter, essentially saying that Madrid had not done any investigation for partisan reasons.
Even so, it was very close–about 870 votes or thereabouts.

Did I miss a scandal during ‘06 that Wilson successfully leaned on a United States Attorney who was later fired for lack of compliance with “Bushie-Doctrine”? Link please. Thanks.

“The CIA is the vanguard of democracy.” Yeah, right. There are two CIAs–the one at home, trying to make sense of the world, and the other, busily screwing with every country that has a reason to dislike American multinationals for their rapaciousness, or the American government for their insistence on trying to run the world.

Over at TPMemo, Josh is posting readers’ pool predictions — for example:
Let the floodgates open, indeed.
We’ve sent our prime minister to DC to meet with the Bush. Her name is Helen Clark and everyone seems to be rather tired of her and the Labor govt here. Still, they’ll take her back and let the US keep Bush.
I’m returning to the States in about three weeks and am uneasy about reentry. Oh, and I have to find some major medical insurance. Yeah! I get to pay big bucks for insurance. Here I pay $1 per month per medication (at least $50 a month in the US). I can see the doctor most of the time on the day I call and pay my $12 for the privilege. That I will miss mightily.
NZ Expat @ 337
6:18 am. Yea, sure have. I have always benn interested in your part of the world. Spent a year in Vietnam with a week in Australia in 69. My father worked with the NZ Troops in the battle of Green Island in WWII and his cousin, a Marine, was buried there. I loved Utu, Once Were Warriors, and Whale Rider.
Of course I forgot the “ex pat” part, sorry!
I hadn’t really thought too much about this place but then my husband was offered work here. I am hooked on it (though why they won’t insulate or heat the houses in winter or use insect screens in summer is beyond me). I think I’m too relaxes for the States. While I care about the politics of what is happening, on a personal level, it is getting more and more “No worries, mate” for me. I do like that.
NZ Expat @ 344
So, are you moving back or just viviting? Are the as into Bob Marley as I imagine?
Good morning, pups. This morning the NYT has a new guest columnist, Stanley Fish, on whether or not Georgia should apologize for slavery, along with Thomas Friedman on the “Bush-Pelosi-Petreus troika.” I’ve also added a column by David Iglesias on why he was fired. It’s not behind the firewall, but I wanted to make sure you knew it was there.

Happy spring! There are coffee and tea all ready, and banana bread because I had some bananas that were begging to be turned into bread. Have a good day.
NZ Expat @ 341
To what part of the country are you heading? “Uneasy about reentry”…….darlin’, a lot of us are “uneasy” about staying here. *g*
Well, I’m a bit older than many of the “into Bob Marley set” but the other morning, as I walked, a man was sitting soaking his feet in one of the thermal hot spots on the edge of the lake, with Bob Marley blasting out of his car nearby. It put a bounce in my step and we laughed the morning on its way.
I teach a lot of students from New Caledonia and Tahiti, and they are really into Bob Marley. Lunchtime at school can really rock (except when we have a big bunch of Saudi students who take over the cd player). There was one glorious day where the Saudis and the Tahitians were all teaching each other dances and music from their countries. That’s the stuff dreams are made of.
I’m headed to Kansas. We sent our 16 year old son back a few months ago; the schooling here wasn’t a good match academically. I’m going back to be a parent and get him through high school. But long term? Who knows? I’ll probably be there for a little over a year and my husband will come visit there and we’ll visit here, as much as we can swing it financially. We’re sort of taking a short term view of things. I didn’t expect to be this uncertain at this age, but even that has a certain charm, especially the part of getting rid of things!
NZ Expat @

Sounds great. How did the Saudi’s end up there?
Marion, a cup of tea and a nice slice of banana bread, please! Sounds good.
The Iglesias column is a must read. How can Heather Wilson and Domenici escape ethics charges after being so clearly named? (How many times have we asked, how can this not be the nail in the coffin?)
I have a friend who constantly asks, What is the Universe trying to teach you? (she’s Sikh…is that part of the Sikh approach?) But, if I follow that question here, the Universe is trying to get us to each move and take responsibility, to shove this mountain of evil off the path. Someone else asked me, What difference can you make, especially while in New Zealand? But you never know when one action, one letter, one speech, is the final straw, the last nail, whatever. I think of all those people who worked for civil rights of African Americans, those unknowns who prepared the way for MLK and others.
