As the great network sages and war pimps struggle for something profound to say on this fourth anniversary of the McCain/Lieberman war, why is it that they all wind up sounding like Dick Button describing a triple salchow?  Today on MSNBC:

Brian Williams:  General Petraus -- who was quoted today by the president more than once --  said in his office in Bagdad and said to me two weeks ago, this is not --  there is no military solution to this.  Now having said that and if you agree to that, is the US up to, is Malaki up to, the kind of slow work, the grinding work of diplomacy, and bringing disparate groups together?

Russert:  You have asked the most important question that could absolutely have been uttered today.  Is the Iraqi govt capable of taking control of their own destiny.  Will young Iraqi men be willing to stand up and lead and die for their new government?  Will they be able to reach out to Iran and Syria, but also to Shiites and Sunnis within their country?  Those questions are unanswered.  The president believes the answer will be yes, he has bet his presidency the answer will be yes.

No, actually he hasn't.  He's not going anywhere, he's fairly sure he won't be impeached and he's said repeatedly that he'll be judged a great man by history.  The only thing he's betting are the lives of more and more people Not Named Bush who will be sacrificed to his pride.  His arrogance knows no limits, and he will continue this war -- nay, escalate it -- no matter how unpopular it becomes.

It may not be on the Dick Cheney-approved list of fourth anniversary war observations, but it is nonetheless true.
