In an interview on Monday with the Chicago Tribune, Marine General and JCS Chair Peter Pace talked about morality.
"I believe homosexual acts between two individuals are immoral and that we should not condone immoral acts," Pace said in a wide-ranging discussion with Tribune editors and reporters in Chicago. "I do not believe the United States is well served by a policy that says it is OK to be immoral in any way."
When a general gets to talking about morality, I say, bring it on. But let's not just talk about sex, General (where you are completely and utterly wrong, by the way), because morality is a much larger topic.
How moral is it, General, to tolerate torture (see paragraph 4) and to step away from binding international treaties by redefining it as "alternative interrogation techniques" or whatever today's White House-approved euphemism is?
How moral is it, General, to throw out habeas corpus and to use the military courts and jails like a ping-pong ball, as the White House tries to game the US legal system?
How moral is it, General, to send an army into a war without proper post-war planning and keep it there despite failed policies?
How moral is it, General, to run a military without the proper equipment and training, putting the troops (and others) in danger?
How moral is it, General, for the DOD to continue to do buisness with war profiteers, ignoring audits that show widespread corruption and abuse?
How moral is it, General, to watch military contractors operate outside any structures of accountability, including the US civilian courts, the military's legal system, and the Iraqi legal system?
How moral is it, General, to discharge military linguists in wartime, simply because they are gay? Well known leftwing-pinko bleeding-heart-liberal former Wyoming GOP senator Alan Simpson has an answer:
According to the Government Accountability Office, more than 300 language experts have been fired under "don't ask, don't tell," including more than 50 who are fluent in Arabic. This when even Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice recently acknowledged the nation's "foreign language deficit" and how much our government needs Farsi and Arabic speakers. Is there a "straight" way to translate Arabic? Is there a "gay" Farsi? My God, we'd better start talking sense before it is too late. We need every able-bodied, smart patriot to help us win this war.
Didn't you just report to Congress about how strained the military is right now — worse off than a year ago, and so bad off that it will take years to return our risks to "acceptable levels"?
General, Joe Biden gets it. Hillary Clinton is sorta, kinda, possibly considering getting it. (OK, bad example.) GOP military affairs icon John Warner gets it. (That's better.) Barack Obama . . . (*sigh*) [Note to Dems: Straddling a barbed wire fence only ends up doing serious damage to yourself.]
Maybe it's a language problem we're having, General. Retired Army Reserve Colonel Austin Bay recently published Embrace the Suck: A Pocket Guide to Milspeak. Nancy Friedman of Away With Words, notes a couple of tidbits which are pertinent here, and may help clear up any miscommunications we're having:
Semper Fi: U.S. Marines motto, short for "Semper Fidelis," which is Latin for "Always Faithful."
Semper I: Pejorative Marine lingo for being overly concerned with one's own personal interests.
Semper Gumby: Another play on Semper Fi. Means "always flexible."
Semper Knife: Yet another twist on Semper Fi. Means "backstabbing."
Semper Fidelis — I wonder what it is that you are faithful to when you say it.
With all due respect to you and your distinguished service record, General, your statement of regret was a classic "I'm not sorry for what I said, but that you noticed that I said it." You put your personal, ill-informed opinions about sexual morality on the table as the chief reason for excluding openly gay, lesbian, and bisexual patriots from military service, and backpedaling now doesn't change that fact about you.
Semper I, General Pace.
With all due respect, General, you have shown outstanding flexibility toward whatever ill-considered plan or policy comes from the White House, turning military logic inside out to please the head of your promotion board at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Semper Gumby, General Pace.
With all due respect, General, you stuck the knife in the backs of countless gay, lesbian, and bisexual marines, past and present, who have served and continue to serve honorably and courageously, under conditions you apparently cannot begin to understand.
Semper Knife, General Pace.
And a big, big Semper Fi to those gay, lesbian, and bisexual Marines whom you slandered, and to the straight Marines who gladly support them. Maybe they can help you understand better what Semper Fi means: faithfulness to the Constitution and the nation that strives to live by it, not to the small, bitter, and twisted BushCo/TheoCon/NeoCon vision of the world.

Peterr!
Good points all. We don’t need lessons in morality from the crew that has
runruined the show for the last six years. It’s BaraCk.
Peterr, What a wonderful post. It seems that Pace needs to use a dictionary and look up the word morality. Jane, if you are still here we got your back!!
Niiiiiiiiice smackdown Peterr.
You are good at this.
Great post Peterr.
Brownback ‘applauds’ Pace’s homophobic comments.
Colbert had a go at “Don’t ask, don’t tell”.

egregious @ 5
Duly noted and corrected.
Bustednuckles @ 7
Let’s just say I’ve spent a bit of time thinking about morality in more than just the context of sex.
Thanks, Peter, this is a great post.
Let’s not forget our partners in the Coalition of the Misled, Israel and Great Britain, both of which permit homonyms to serve. And Marine Sgt Eric Alva, the first American wounded in Operation Iraqi Liberation.
egregious @ 5
It’s quickly becoming schmuck to me.
Nice job Peter.
Wow, peterr, i stand (sit at the laptop) in awe. Are your TRexasaurus appendages twitching? Must you speak truth to power with such precision? As stated, i stand in awe. And trust that these thoughts will bloom threwout amurka. Semper Whatever and More.
Peterr, great research, great list, and dare I say it, great snark.
that’s scary, peterr. we’re obviously on the same page tonight. gtma!
Mr. Pace is a disgrace to the uniform he wears. He should be mustered out ASAP at the rank he entered military service.
“…Ambition must be made to counteract ambition…” – FEDERALIST No. 51
TSF, your comment about our allies made me wonder about the employment policies of certain military contractors.
Google is a wonderful thing.
From the NY Blade:
So let’s review. Pace can kick gays out of the Marine Corps, but when they get hired as military contractors he’s got to defend their tails.
Let’s hear it for shareholder resolutions!
More than one jar head I new in the Nam said “eat the apple and fuck the corps”.
raven @ 20
knew (edit isn’t working on my browser).
I’m looking for the link, but there was a poll recently of returned Iraq and Afghan warriors, 73% of whom said they had no problem serving with homonyms. So, the argument Duncan Hunter makes today (Peter Pace speaks for his Marines) ain’t so.
Valley Girl @ 16
Let’s face it: with the record this administration has, a general waving the “morality” flag in front of a preacher like me . . . kind of a big red cape.
mods there is a problem somewhere===
in last thread, all comments after 100 show as a weblink….underlined and highlighted…is bizarre..tried repeatedly to to post a comment and couldn’t…took me into cyberland and back into post…….something is wrong. finally went back to home page and entered in here to be able to post concern
There is a problem with projection here.
While gays want to serve with honor, there’s a lot of closeted/conflicted/conservatives type who would like the world to be their bathhouse.
Thus the phenomena of Matt “Dirty” Sanchez, and Jeff Guckert.
TeddySanFran @ 22
That’s not the only bullshit in Hunter’s rap.
TeddySanFran @ 22
Alan Simpson quotes some great figures in the link up top:
Let me repeat that one: 91% of the folks in the age group that sits in the foxholes have no problem changing the policy.
Sex therapist, moralist, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, bigot, what a talented man!
peterr, let’s not use bullfighting metaphors, even though you stuck the peccadillo right in the hump. What are all those rojo mantillos being thrown into the ring? (With apologies to Hem, who also fought for progressive freedom.)
What surprised me the most about this story is that John Warner–a BIG proponent of DADT–slapped Pace down. Alan Simpson’s op-ed was nice, but he’s out of office, and it had the feel of an ex-segregationist trying to polish his legacy once he realized which way history was going to go.
Give ‘em hell, Peterr!!
This post rocks.
I’m so glad you joined the team here at FDL.
From “The Good War” by Studs Terkel:
The gestures that express the closeness of comradeship are often the same gestures homosexuals use. Studs Terkel’s The Good War contains the story of Marine Ted Allenby, a concealed homosexual who fought in the Pacific war. Allenby found another homosexual in his regiment, who became his buddy. Allenby had a poncho with his name on it, which was stolen. On Iwo Jima on Good Friday during the fighting his buddy came across the decomposed body of a marine with Allenby’s name on the poncho. The buddy, assuming the worst, returned to the ship disconsolate. On Easter he was on deck and saw Allenby climbing over the railing. “He grabbed hold of me, hugged me, and couldn’t let go. He was crying uncontrollably.” The marines on board who witnessed these actions thought them perfectly normal and understandable. Allenby mused that this behavior if it were on the streets of San Diego would have gotten him and his buddy derided as “a couple of queers.” What his buddy felt on that Easter “has to do with the very deep emotions that men can have for each other, gay or not. Unfortunately, in our society, men aren’t supposed to show that kind of affection except under such stress as this.” Allenby, Marine and columnist for Gay Life, is a better judge of what human behavior can mean than Boswell is. Deep affection between men and expressions of love are not necessarily or even ordinarily the result of homosexuality, even if they are between homosexuals.
Terrific post Peterr. More! More!
Preach it, Peterr!
TRex @ 31
Coming from you, that’s high praise. Thanks!

With this administration, I don’t think I’ll run out of material any time soon.
Holy buckets, this blog is flyin’ at warp 10 today. So many scandals and disgraces, so little time….
I’ve railed before that the truth is not in Gee-Dubya. Did again with Mr. S just now.
And he insists, the truth is in Bush, he just never tells it.
Jane’s earlier thread wondered “why now” has a tipping point been reached, and I’m reminded of the old joke: Recession is when you’re out of a job, depression is when it’s me.
It’s Me Time in the Rethuglican party now. And as GSD noted earlier today, in the words of Niemoller, “they came for….” The Rethugs are finally waking up to the fact that, yep, they’re coming for everybody outside of their tiny circle of elites.
So many lies.
Prairie Sunshine @ 36
The Pizza thread was fun too!
I’ve heard that a whole lot of top brass are fundies and/or Mormons. Does anyone know if that’s true?
Is Pace a fundy?
ABC News had a piece tonight about an innovative vehicle that protects against IEDs. Bob Woodruff will have more on Nightline.
One wonders how many Hummers we’ve kept buying in the last 4 years when these could have kept our troops alive…and whole.
OT:
What, he has enough brain left to utter sentences?
I heard confessed to the Jimmy Hoffa job, too. And halitosis.
Fucking sick.
I’m actually thinking about doing another fountain pen post tonight to give everybody a chance to decompress.
Sha @ 38
I do know that an inordinately high number of enlisted personnel are Mormon and Fundamentalist Christian, but I do not know Mr. Pace’s religious orientation.
TRex @ 41
Even tho I can’t speak for the current moderators, that just might be a good idea. Or a kitty post. But fountain pens do seem to get more traffic than kitties.
Just to share a little from Bush’s press conference in Mexico.
So just to recap briefly it was entirely appropriate despite being mishandled and the mistakes that were made (appropriately no doubt) will be corrected.
This is Bush being specific, more or less, kind of, generally speaking that is.

TRex @ 41
Yep. Part of me says, we’re close, don’t let up, keep the pressure on; but I’ve felt like that a dozen times. So maybe we’re in a marathon and we’ll run em down right at the end. So we need a breather to get ready for the next hill.
Problem is, we can’t let the Peter Pace travesties go unanswered. (Great post Peterr.) It looks like the sickness is so thorough, and so pervasive, that you have to be ready to fight back every minute.
Go with your instincts, TRex. You’ve been doing
somea ton of heavy lifting all along.Off-topic

Pelosi statement
Transcript: (above has video too)
PELOSI: I was disappointed in the moral judgment that the chairman of the Joint Chiefs made this morning, or whenever it was, reported this morning, and I was more interested in the statement made by Gen. Shalikashvilii, a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs, when he said that, “If America is ready for a military policy of nondiscrimination based on sexual orientation, the timing of the change should be carefully considered.” I think the military should carefully consider changing the policy. We need the most talented people, we need the language skills, we need patriotic Americans who exist across the board in our population. We don’t need moral judgment from the chairman of the Joint Chiefs.
Anyone else think General Pace projecting? I suspect he is closeted.
Don’t miss Hillary Clinton’s meek rejoinder to Gen. Pace’s designation of homosexuality as immoral: “Well, I’m going to leave that to others to conclude.”

That’s kind of hard not to miss. Apparently, Hillary thinks she’s running for Miss Congeniality. I hope she’s right.

I wish you would, TRex. I went looking for fountain pens today, and no store carried them. Well, Staples had one but it was a $37.00 Parker and I don’t want that. How to start out cheaply? Where to buy from? How much is shipping? Should I get a bunch of extra cartridges (didn’t see any of those in the stores, either).
Valley Girl @ 54
I’ll have to take a look later; I’m just about to log off and go check the pot roast. Thanks for the good ideas, by the way!
EvilDrPuma @ 53
I like that: Hillary for Ms. Congeniality — sort of a consolation prize.

I thought Hillary was Ms. Triangularity.

So far, he’s had kevlar pants while sitting on the barbed-wire fence, but sooner or later people need to learn of his herd-follower temperament. He’s not a leader!
How moral is it, General, to install a male hooker in the White House and have him use it as a hotbed motel?
How moral is it, General, to have ANOTHER male hooker trotted out at a “Conservative” conference as a sterling example of a U.S. Marine?

On the starter pen thing, I think there is a Lamy Safari Pen at PenCity that is moderately priced. You may have to get a converter so that you can use bottle ink. if you get cartridges you can reload empty ones with either a syringe or a pipette or probably an eye dropper.
There is some guy online who really tells you how to load the pen. I’ll go find his linky link and post it now.
Only thing about the Lamy Safari pen is – i have not tried it. it does looks nice and has an ok price.
KO just had a piece on the use of the talking point “micromanage the war” by repugs and . . Joe.
Well, it looks like some people are Pacing, and some people are feeling Pensive.

And exactly how long did it take their Jack Bauer techniques to extract this confesssion? Of course in any court this confession would be considered given under duress. Exactly what is it worth?
New unit of measurement: Bauers — the number of days it takes to extract a confession using torture.

We really should have a wiki that gets updated with the Repug talking points by topic.
Iraq War: slow bleeding, micro-manage
(as opposed to hemorrhage and gross incompetence?)
USA’s: serve at the pleasure of the President, Clinton did it, Dems upset because the USA’s were going to prosecute Dems…
(Illegal obstruction of justice at the President’s request; Clinton did what Reagan did; obstruction of justice is just that, regardless of party)
I’m sure I’m missing one. Wonder what Rover cooks up tonight?
raven @ 69
I don’t have cable. I think “micromanage” is just another in a long line of Republican strawmen. It’s a way of refocusing debate away from their 4 years of failure in Iraq. Bush with the support of his fellow Republicans has micromanaged his way to complete catastrophe there. Given their track record, Democratic micromanagement is exactly what we do need.

Sigh. Mr. HotFlash would be so pleased. He’s bought a few more pens this week and (blush) I bought him a set of Schaeffer calligraphy pens — 3 bodies, 6 nibs and 13 (count them!) ink cartridges in 13 colors. So you’d have him for sure, and if you like, I’ll have him send you some kitty pix (we have 6 cats). For Valley Gorl and me.

Excerpt from a longer rant about the necessity of providing administrative support. Bloggers: not even Will Blog for Food. They don’t even bargain for that.
Excerpt:
“Am thinking about the support structures that we need as our political involvement becomes more complex.
“I trust you have read my post on Plamehouse where I had to beg them to consider eating, and finally take action on my own.
“Today I watched people laying utility lines for some unknown future near my house. Investing in capacity for future use.
[snip]
“We need to think about administrative support, and it can be as elemental as feeding Jane and Marcy in DC. How can we put together the people who must work, to the exclusion of thinking about things like food, with the people who want to support that work.”

i promised myself that i would do this, and it is past my bedtime, so:
i know i am risking being a thorn in the side, but these issues right at home, in our own states, are the ones that matter, too…..i wish you all could have heard the speech from the new democratic governor of ohio, ted strickland, oh my how inspiring, please find it on the web..i will quit after posted for everyone to see for 24 hours, really…ha ha..please just bear with me, was really big here……
epu’d for 24 hours====
jane;
i completely believe that things are coming back around to a new day. have felt that way since jan ‘04……
my dad is a retired corporate acct-fdr dem, even people he knows are jumping the republican ship…..and they are way invested in the bush warship…..jumping ship, one by one….
and i am being annoying to get the positive word out—–
i promise this is a one time thing, and i keep promises…..
but am reposting this for an entire day and then i will stop…and am sending funds as soon as i get my reimbursement check…paypal will be hit soon……

dmac—
Am from Ohio and am so happy to hear the new governor is great!
I heard somewhere it’s only possible to post something once a thread, re your wanting to post it over and over. Does anyone know about that, am just going on gossip here.
A toast to a true progressive governor!! Hip hip hooray!!!!
me back
yeah, i remember you commenting about your mum being here in ohio, almost commented, but didn’t…..and i was only going to post in a little bit aggravating way, once a post, for a day’s cycle, so everybody can know that it can happen, change that is……not to be annoying, but to know that the hard work of people pays off..and this was a hard fought battle for ted strickland to win in this state….that’s all….it’s going to affect a lot of people…..not from any one class, but everyone, which is what it’s about….
i’ve seen people repost things off-topic and rant here and there, mostly angry moments–well, i’m in an ecstatic moment and really need to shout from the rooftops…..and have been all day to all my friends and family!!!!!!!!
FINALLY, A GOOD THING IN OHIO!!!!!!!!!! man, oh man, did we need it.
i wish i could explain what a big deal it is—we have had a governor, bob taft, yeah, you’ve maybe heard of him……he is worse than what you heard, he has dismantled our state over 8 years, in horrific ways, with the help of a republican legislature….it has been dark here…..
BUT NOT ANYMOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRE!!!!!!!!!!!!
SO, EXCUSE MY RANT, but i really need to let people know, that yes, it can happen in your state……a good thing….can happen.
and this is only a highlight of the speech, also is freezing college tuition, and a long list of other things…..and he’s wantin’ to make it worth the republican’s ‘while’ to do it…..
here’s a letter i sent to my mom–part of which i posted earlier today—i am so excited with what’s FINALLY goin’ on in our state………wow
hi mom;
today’s subject is politics=======
did you hear the governor’s state of the state speech????????
oh mom, it was wonderful………see if you can find it on the web and listen to it……..when he was done, i was overwhelmed, really, had tears in my eyes………
i wish everyone could have heard OUR new OHIO GOVERNOR ted strickland’s state of the state speech!!!!!
every child in ohio gets health coverage up to age 21
family of 4 making 62,000 gets medicaid–that’s those at 300% of poverty level, those earning above that but with no health coverage can buy into medicaid coverage…
pregnant women at 150% get coverage
anyone age 65 and older and disabled don’t pay property taxes on first 25,000—that’s 1 in 4 people
adding to program that allows elderly to stay in their homes instead of going into nursing homes….
significantly adding to preschool programs—which were almost nonexistant thanks to taft in office…..said where you start out in life and where yuo go to school shouldn’t determine where you end up in life….. said that a few times in his speech.
ending vouchers, freezing charter and for profit charter schools….
tobacco settlement money going into schools…infrastructure and general funds== that’s 5 billion there.
almost a billion into alternative energy projects… 250 mil a year…..
break for businesses that provide training for untrained young workers..
expanding training for older workers and offering training to make it more accessible, i.e. location and time of day offered…
too many things to list…
is offering carrots to republican majority legislature to get policies changed…..
basically is already undoing what taft did…has been dismantling many many things since he took office..i know that cuz i’ve been following it, that part wasn’t in today’s speech, unless you read between the lines..
and adding on more changes for working poor…..and middle class that don’t want to say they’re poor-but they are and struggling. mostly because of health care, took care of that one listed above…
i can’t articulate what a pleasure it was to hear him coming over the airwaves, i have tears in my eyes…..really….
i knew he was for real, but was waiting to hear what his plans are..and if he really had any………boy does he, has surrounded himself with some really smart people….
please take a moment one day and listen to his speech, it was incredible.
forgot one of the best things in the speech=
people who are officially on medicaid-disabled/mentally/wheelchairs, etc., can now work without losing their medicare….this is one main reason keeping people down and limited financially, who are disabled but can work, if they work, they lose their benefits===now can work and keep coverage….
wow
now, when this stuff hits the state legislature, people are gonna need to be writing letters in support of all of these things…..many people need these programs…..so, get ready to write……..
wow, still can’t believe what i heard on the radio, live, it wasn’t taft and it wasn’t some democrat blowhard with good things to say but who doesn’t have a plan……..he’s definitely an organized, smart man……..finally………
love,
dayna

dayna @ 84,
Congrats on your gov, what a change! This is a good thing indeed, and deserves to be memorialized. The problem w/FDL is that it’s like writing on the escalaor, things are gone so soon. Have you considered doing a blog? This is something to commemorate, and there are more Ohio things to watch, such as the election/voting maching stuff.
Excellent post, Peterr.
The tired rationales for why people, because of their sexual orientation, cannot be allowed to serve their country which they love are preposterousness wrapped in a travesty, with assclown sprinkles.
Methinks General Pace has spent too much time sniffing Junior Fartboy’s flatuses.
Peterr… Excellent presentation!
As Sibel Edmonds demonstrats so well… the revolving door of the MIC has completely corrupted the military. The big boys use the military as their ticket to a fat job in the defense industry to use their inside knowledge to land ridiculously inflated contracts. They could care less about the mission of the military. The retire from active duty and then cash out.
And you have the creeps like the veep who have gone back and forth like a boomerang between gov insider and MIC exec.
The generals are revolting in so many ways… And admirals are as well.
KO just outed Anderson Cooper.
this post is one of the many i will send to my local liberal radio talk show host. i think she will have a field day with general peter pasty face.
when i worked for mr. rogers we had all kinds of notable guests. they were usually musicians like yo yo ma, hillary han, the marsalis family but occasionally fred would have a visual artist on the program. one time we had eric hill, the guy who does the “where’s spot” books. he was so nice and even looked like spot. i wanted to sharpy the end of his nose to prove it, but didn’t.
he was waaay into ink. he used all these hand mixed concoctions that he made from some dutch ink that he had shipped to him from holland. all his spot art work was done with something like a rotring pen and then he took a brush and colored things in with his personal dutch ink colors.
i’m starting to realize that the ink is as important as the pen.

Congrats on your gov, what a change! This is a good thing indeed, and deserves to be memorialized. The problem w/FDL is that it’s like writing on the escalaor, things are gone so soon. Have you considered doing a blog? This is something to commemorate, and there are more Ohio things to watch, such as the election/voting maching stuff.
oh, hot flash, there are so many things to memorialize in ohio thanks to bob taft……….but hopefully they will pass in the night………i’ve thought about a blog, but not ready yet…….just wanted people to know for 24 hours that fighting worked………we were up against mega-church demons, and could have ended up with ken blackwell…..it was national, was quite a fight, and the speech i heard today made me cry………..
and i am not moved easily, that’s why i’m bein a pain in the ass posting it over and over again……….
squirrel hiller @ 92,
Thank you so much for those pen links.
You worked for Mr. Rogers! What a kind person to work for.
HotFlash @ 94
He was discussing whether Ryan Seacrest is gay with Michael Musto (one of those “the producer made me do it” stories), and KO said something about Anderson Cooper calling Musto.
It was a bit surprising. (Not about Cooper, but about KO saying it about Cooper.)

I thought Cheney had dibs on halitosis.
Drat!
I can’t keep my evil-doers straight….

Memorialize it in digits, its easy and free, if I can blog so can you. My blog is like a fridge, I cut out really good stuff from other places and stck it up with a magnet shaped like an oreo cookie. ;)

There is nothing about Duncan Hunter that should ever be condoned. He was the one go-to guy who supported Cunningham in court.

T,
If we meet at YearlyKos, you’ll have the prize you deserve.
Back at #50, Pectopah asks if anyone else thinks Gen. Pace is projecting. I agree it’s a distinct possibility. One of my favorite quotes is Shakespeare’s “Methinks thou dost protest too much.”
The Bard was well aware of projecting way back in the day. Anytime someone gets overly wound up about something, you have to wonder what the REAL issue is. What are they afraid of? I’ve ALWAYS felt there is a little latent (or otherwise) homosexuality in EVERY homophobe. Otherwise, the issue wouldn’t be such a big deal to them.
FishtownTom @ 104
Agreed. I ask ‘em why, and they say, “Well, what if they come on to me?” and I tell ‘em, don’t worry, you just do what women have been doing for millenia, you tell them sorry, I can’t, I’m washing my hair that night. Jeesh.
I will always think of Pace as the “Perfumed Prince” as some FDL commenter described him. Perfumed Prince Peter Pace. Another useless character in the Bush saga.

You are extremely fortunate.
We’ve got bible-pounding Arkansas trash here in New York.
Trade ya.
Best, Terry
Just don’t post about how you feel about any candidate not taking a stand on this or about the morality issue of this on one of the liberal sites as if you do you will get your head chewed off.
Thank you for your faithful mission. You’re terrific.
Peterr,
I’m here late but wanted to thank you. You are righteous! You have the moral high ground. I only wish you could say this to that pathetic excuse for a man’s face.
Thank you!
Terry, as long as Obama doesn’t end up in the White House I’ll trade him, keep him, or vote him out in 2010. ;)
I accept the upside that at least he’s a Democratic party Follower. It’s just frustrating that everyone thinks pretty-talk and barbed-wire-fence sitting is equivalent to leadership.
What’s more valuable to the country at this point, a hundred linguists or one General Peter Pace? I think Alan Simpson just answered it.
Peterr, thank you. Reminded me of the passionate writing not seen since MWO went out to pasture.
I believe the list in 1 Corinthians fundamentalists cite includes
Republicansthieves, the covetous and extortioners.Sooo, when are they gonna crucify Bush, Cheney and Rove (snerk!)?
Fundie leaders aren’t interested in righteousness:they want to establish sharia.
The Republican train continues over the cliff, clikity- clack, clickity-clack. And they’re not even to the clown car yet.
Well, this simply demands the Arlo treatment:
Awesome post, Peterr. Thank you!
Quibble I must. Pace is not responsible for starting the never-ending war. He’s just there to “win” it, since all the other fired smarter people couldn’t.
He’s an ass-face to blech about morality, as relates to DA,DT tho. Out of his depth, thinking above his pay grade. Chair this, O arbiter of who’s naughty and nice.
(I coulda put a link there, but you get it.)
I’m changing my handle to ThreadKiller. Can I still say F***?
pay grade ~= gay parade
Any media who accept Mohammed’s confession as not induced by torture should be told to take a flying frik at a rolling donut. Or else asked if they want to buy the Brooklyn Bridge.

And this morning the BBC has quoted the “confession” as first item on two news bulletins (8.00 and 8.30 GMT), uncritically as if it is clearly true. Shame on them! Yes, I’ve complained.
TRex @ 41
Oh, please do. I couldn’t help but buy a couple of your recommendations, and they are terrific!
Have you noticed that the public persons with obsessions about homosexuality seem to have personal demons they haven’t addressed?
cando,
There is a positive correlation between whatever burr is under many a fundamentalist saddle, and their core being.
Jimmy Swaggart preached hard against fornication: look at the results.
I know of more than one local preacher who preached hard against loose women, liquor or gays, only to be caught with same.
Gets down to projection, as best I can tell.
The general further believes, if he is consistant as a conservative Christian, that any sexual acts outside marriage are immoral.
I expect he wants to discharge all his military personnel who have sex outside of marriage? I think that will leave us with about 10% of our current troops.
What a buffoon.
