"I know that Ann Coulter needs publicity in the same way that a tapeworm needs a large intestine. This is the environment that makes it possible for her to continue to make a living doing what she does." (Rachel Maddow via C&L)
That picture is deeply disturbing, I know. I apologize to any children or small animals who may have been scarred by it.
Well, teh Coultergeist has lost no time whatsoever cloaking herself in the mantle of Persecuted Free Speech Heroin(e). Her pet dickhead Sean Hannity has leapt into the fray to go on the record echoing Coulter's assertion that "faggot" is a harmless "schoolyard taunt" and that gay-bashing is as American as baseball, apple pie, and plantation lynchings.
HTML Mencken has an excellent round-up of Right Wing responses to the Coulter gaffe, and more than adequately demonstrates that the Reich Wing will give up their favorite genocidal peroxide blonde banshee about as soon as Jonah Goldberg will give up his collection of "new-in-box" 70's Star Wars action figures and deluxe Death Star play-set. Fortunately, the companies who advertise on Coulter's web-site feel no such loyalty.
WASHINGTON (CNN) — At least three major companies want their ads pulled from Ann Coulter's Web site, following customer complaints about the right-wing commentator referring to Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards as a "faggot."
Verizon, Sallie Mae and Georgia-based NetBank each said they didn't know their ads were on AnnCoulter.com until they received the complaints.
A diarist at the liberal blog DailyKos.com posted contact information for dozens of companies with ads on Coulter's site after the commentator made her remarks about Edwards at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington on Friday. (Full story)
Yeah! That's how you fuckin' do it!
But you know what? People inside the Conservative movement hate her, too. Dave Neiwert points us to yet another ugly incident from CPAC's 2007 Hate Camp conference:
The extent to which conservatives willingly turn a blind eye to what Coulter represents is reflected in their abject unwillingness to confront it.
Perhaps part of the reason for this is what happens to conservatives — like, say, Dan Borcherd — who actually do: they get roughed up by Coulter's goons — another incremental step in the right's thuggishness. Now they're tossing out genuine Republicans who were actually invited to their events. (Recall, if you will, Coulter's call for students to behave as goons on her behalf at a campus appearance last year.)
Borcherd is a lifelong conservative and Iraq war veteran who believes (perhaps rightly) that Coulter does her movement more harm than good, and has publicly called her out on her involvement in the Paul Jones debacle. It seems Annie does not like to be reminded that she was Patient Zero, the Typhoid Mary of CDS (Clinton Derangement Syndrome) back in the mid-90's, when she was a fresh-faced young thing of 65. A CPAC security detail, headed by Ann's own people forcibly ejected Mr. Borcherd from the event after jerking his paid event pass from around his neck and manhandling him for several minutes. Hooray, CPAC! Hooray, freedom of speech! Truly, conservatives are doing all they can to keep Stalinism alive and well in the new millenium.
And here, my friends, is what we've been waiting for all week. I still haven't been able to track down a master list of the papers who carry Coulter's column, but the Human Rights Campaign has set up a page where you can email the editors of those papers directly with either a form letter, or a composition of your own. I know that you guys are going to want to put your newly perfected Angry Letter Writing Skills to work, so by God, go to it! And give 'em HELL!! ATTACK!! ATTACK!! ATTACK!!
Editor and Publisher reports today that two more papers have dropped Coulter's column, bringing up the total since last Friday's "f-bomb" to at least four. We'll work on laudatory letters to those papers later in the week, but for now we still have work to do. It's time to give Annie a little taste of exactly how the "marketplace of ideas" deals with people who sell such deeply shoddy merchandise.
Coulter is calling this her "17th career-ending moment", but hey, 17 has always been a lucky number for me. It looks like this time around, she's hell bent on personally nailing shut the lid on her career's coffin from the inside. Even notoriously vacuous gossip queen Perez Hilton is getting involved by stealing images from darkblack and calling his normally politically agnostic readers to action.
Ah, yes, the 2007 Hate Camp is a gift that keeps right on giving. Even one of its organizers, Amy Ridenour (via Raw Story) is having her doubts about the efficacy of an annual FreepFest in spreading the conserv-o-tard meme:
"It would be better, in my opinion, to not have a CPAC at all than to have one that presents conservatism as a hostile, people-hating ideology," said Amy Ridenour, whose National Center for Public Policy Research was one of the paying sponsors for CPAC.
"We conservatives have enough trouble overcoming the false things that are said about us without paying for a platform upon which we shoot ourselves annually in the foot," she wrote on her weblog Sunday.
Oh, but come on, Amy! The 101st Fighting Keyboarders may never get a chance to shoot anything but their feet! Besides, where else can we find out that Ann Coulter, Michelle MalKKKin, Hannity, and O'Reilly's new BFF Cpl. Matt Sanchez is yet another gay hooker Republican with a slew of hardcore porn flicks on his resume with titles like "Jawbreaker", "Donkey Dicks", and "Glory Holes of Fame 3". Ew. I know. Goooooood Family Values.
Kind of makes you sick, doesn't it? What's with the GOPerverts and their penchant for man-whores?
ADDED: Big thanks to the dashing Max Blumenthal of the Nation who name-checked me tonight on Countdown!! BOO-YAAAAAAHHH!!!

TREX Rocks!!!
TRex is that a parasite?
Is there a formal procedure at Firedoglake for a reader to file a grievence about an unspeakably hideous photo on a Late Nite post?
LOL
Trex, I shouldn’t have doubted you the last thread. You walk the talk!!

That image is almost as disgusting as she is.
Dang, is that what happens when one’s head gets too big for their britches?
Here’s a rather large sign I posted by Coit Tower:

Yeah, I need to drop that check in the mail right away before I forget…
gawd! that image is horrifying!
but like great all great satire, it leaves a burning afterimage, and you’re forced to think of it whenever you think of Coulter.
I still think the meme should be advanced that he/she is a trans-sexual, and to go about it the way they would, to demand that he/she PROVE with a tissue sample that he/she does not have a Y chromosome, and then contantly harp that it has never been proven that s/he is actually a woman.
ember @ 11
Maybe she could go into rehab to weasel out of her voter fraud charge in Florida.
It looks like this time around, she’s hell bent on personally nailing shut the lid on her career’s coffin from the inside.
I’m going to try to channel Darkblack into doing an impression on this from Kill Bill Vol.2. Nobody teach the Coultergeist the same f*sting trick Beatrix uses to get out.
sporkovat @ 19
I appreciate the thought, but having a few friends who are transgendered people, I don’t really find it funny to joke about Ann Coulter being one. Transgendered people have a rough time in the world without having to be saddled with the Coultergeist.
neurophius @ 20
I think that she is long overdue.
My God, that’s a scary picture.
Gonna have nightmares tonight :)
YIKES
Gotta tell ya, that darkblack just scared the friggin’ crap out of me… when I saw that it was a lamprey eel mouth, I just wanted to go screaming from the room.
Coulter, in her normal state (normal for her, that is) is bad enough.
That’s … wuhhhhhhhhhhhuhhhhhhhuhhhh….
Hey, TRex!
Over at the StarTribune, the right-wing political editor D.J. Tice says that Al Franken’s calling Norm Coleman Bush’s “butt boy” back in October is exactly the same as Ann Coulter insulting both John Edwards and gays last week. I kid you not.
As a Certified Gay Man, perhaps you could pay Mr. Tice a visit to explain things to him. (And anyone else should feel free to join in the fun.) To avoid moderation, remember to put only one active link per post; otherwise, type out the URLs, leaving off the “http://” part.

OT: Is anyone else pissed that two of the jurors think it would be “fun” and “have no problem with” a Libby pardon? WTF?
One was on Tweety and the other on K.O. tonight.
Ann Coulter is a genuine harpy, and also an actual idiot. She chose conservatism not because she believed in it but because there’s an enormous publicity machine that rewards young white women (especially blondes, even fake blondes) for public anti-liberal, anti-feminist activity. She chose it for the money. Her personal life—as with so many of these women—is utterly unrelated to the garbage she spews. She talks conservatism but dresses like a streetwalker; is neither married nor has any children (those being the only accepted roles for conservative women); apparently can’t even remember where she is registered to vote; attacks 9/11 widows for daring to grieve in public; and just generally loves the sound of her own voice more than anything else. That disgusting picture is the most accurate likeness I have ever seen of her. Go get ‘er, TRex (& then go get Camille Paglia—you almost promised a couple of weeks ago….)!
RadRobin @ 28

PW, what is Franken’s explanation for this?
Sorry to play Devil’s Advocate, but…
It’s tricky – it’s an instance of you don’t want to be as debased as the reich-wingers, of course, but as a meme that could end her repulsive career due to the squickyness induced in her target audience I think its a strong one.
As with Rev Haggard, its not that he was into the extra-curricular gay sex, it was the blatant hypocrisy that led to some gloating when he was brought low.
if you trawl the web a bit, some of the sites that claim to know that s/he used to be a man are of the transgender community. it may be a bit of an open secret there.
Hmm, looks like I’ve got a comment stuck in the moderation queue.

Also from E&P (a bitty bit that I posted yesterday and darkblack noticed) This looky here :
Editor Explains Why Paper Dropped Coulter Column
Snip-
“Lancaster County residents of whatever political view — conservative, moderate, or liberal — deserve intelligent discussion of issues. Ann Coulter no longer provides that.”
New Era Editor Ernie Schreiber expanded on those comments when reached early this afternoon. He told E&P that Coulter “was hurting our credibility. Our community is largely conservative and Republican. They expect insightful discussion of issues. Ann Coulter wasn’t giving us that. We have lots of conservative columnists who do — Cal Thomas, Jonah Goldberg, Robert Novak, Michelle Malkin, among others.”—

Angry Black Bitch went after Coulter the other day, with a truly glorious snarkfilled dream.
It seems to ABB that Ann lacks “home training,” and ABB pondered who might provide a suitable home in which to train her.
Madonna appears in the dream, making her pitch. No dice.
Patricia Heaton appears . . . God, no.
A third figure appears, and made her pitch:
. . . And, well heck I just don’t think Ann Coulter is very nice. What ever happened to nice, anyway? So, I though…gosh, I’m a mother and I know all about nice and home training. Why not visit the Chamber of…well, can I say that on television? What I mean is that I am willing to tackle the training of Ann Coulter!”

ponder, it’s simple. I’m not saying being gay, transgendered, or a oxycontin/hillbilly-heroin addict is a bad thing, I’m saying that the HYPOCRISY of going on all media platforms and trumpeting ones righteousness WHILE engaging in exactly the actions one condemns is bad, and more relevant for this discussion, RIDICULOUS enough to discredit such a person in the eyes of their acolytes.
as I said at #36: As with Rev Haggard, its not that he was into the extra-curricular gay sex, it was the blatant hypocrisy that led to some gloating when he was brought low.

If one is found to be not what they claimed to be, it causes barely a ripple of titters to a jaded public now, fresh as they are from the latest heiress outrage, celebrity self-immolation or televangelist transgression.
I myself have created a few works with the individual in question using the theme referenced…But not so that her few diehard loyalists could have a preview of an oncoming ‘crying game’ moment.
Such a revelation will not change their nature, but only add fuel to their phobias.

school yard taunts sometimes lead to fist fights. Maybe Edwards should hit a girl and deck her next time he sees her.
That graphic is disturbing indeed. As a scientist I have learned to appreciate beauty in places few others have: the tenacity of crabgrass, the hardiness of the cockroach, and yes-the unique evolutionary niche of the tapeworm. You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do to survive, and I don’t fault these creatures for playing the hand they were dealt. But Ann Coulter was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and didn’t need to become a hate-pusher to survive. No, Ms. Coulter exploits the hate inherent in the Republican party gratuitously and for her own selfish gains. Every year she steps in it big-time, and every year the Republicans wring their hands and ask themselves “Has she gone too far? Is she hurting us?” And then they invite her back for another speaking engagement, and buy her books like the hopeless hate junkies they are and the cycle goes on and on and on and on. I personally love it, and the Democrats would be making a big mistake if they don’t link her name and the Republican party at every opportunity. She has singlehandedly revived John Edward’s flagging campaign and her “gaffe” is manna from heaven for him. He has handled it adroitly and is thankfully back in the race. Keep on running your blood-sucking, parasitic mouth, Ann. You’re a progressive’s wet dream if we elect to exploit you as you exploit the mouth-breathers who constitute your following. You go, girl!!!

nah… I was just thinking that having olfactory glands the size of washing machines, a box of kleenex might not cut it. :)
TRex @ 140
An aspect of this saga that I have not heard addressed is the irony in the fact that, as I understand it,this guy became the golden boy of the conservative establishment because he was a veteran who complained that some students at Columbia University called him a “baby killer” because of his military service, and that the university failed to do anything about it. So conservatives not only deplore homosexuality, they particularly rage against it in the military; and when they choose to honor this guy for being persecuted because of his military service, they unknowingly honor a gay guy [not just a gay guy, but a gay porn star], and by doing so they take a stand that mocks their own persecution of people in the military who are gay.
I’m not sure I’ve stated the irony of the situation exactly right, but it’s in there somewhere…
TRex! I had to stand up and shout for you tonight!
The thing about Anne Coulter is not just what she says, but the way she says it.
The condescending laugh, the flip of the head, the roll of the eyes, the whole tone. So high school.
neurophius @ 149
If your gist was that the right wing is top-heavy with idiots, I think you made the point.
Speaking of tyrannosaurus olfactory glands, my five year old soon-to-be step daughter saw TRex on youtube and made her mommy show her how to send it to me. I thought you might get a kick out of it. Ok, now I’m done with the lighthearted stuff. Back to Ann-bashing!
As with all Reich Wing ironies, if you experience light-headedness, shortness of breath, bleeding from the extremities, blurred vision, or sensations of panic, discontinue use. If symptoms persist, read Digby for an hour straight. After that, you should be fine.
So listen up, diplomats: However beleaguered, Cheney will not resign over the president’s refusal to take his advice. The only force that could drive him to that dramatic step would be that unshakable sense of loyalty to Bush, who desperately now needs a vice president in stable physical, emotional and political health. That is the equation you want to be watching.

Hoagland’s been a twit for ages. I see he hasn’t changed a bit….
I caught this infuriating story on RawStory earlier and I couldn’t help but wonder what would Coulter say about these women in uniform?
Story about active duty female soldiers in Iraq being raped and sexually abused by their male counterparts. Carrying weapons for late night trips to the latrines, not to guard against enemies but fellow soldiers. Not recommended if your blood pressure is already high. Do you think Bush and Chuck Schumer will commission “non-partisan” multi-year, think-tank, study-group style fact-finding commissions to look into it?
TRex:
A bit too pornographic for my taste sad to say. Speaks badly to me of a person I love to read.
Just my wimpy take.
I was absolutely thrilled the other day when Obama was accused of trying to profit by investing in Avi Biopharma, a recipient of government funding since it whomped up a cure for ebola in about 24 hours for a lab technician thought to be infected. The technician wasn’t infected but it didn’t go for naught. DOD sent money.
That should interest a dinosaur since Avi is the dinosaur of antisense companies, the father to decades of dismal failure since Professor James Summerton, the “Father of Antisense,” discovered the idea for the most elegant form of gene therapy in a Siberian science journal during the Cold War.
(No, I am not making any of this up.)
Antisense has failed like absolutely nothing else, garnering two Nobel prizes along the way, and has more fake fathers than Anna Nicole Smith’s baby. The reason is the promise of a science that can whomp up a cure for ebola in a day or two.
That’s pretty much what Avi did with West Nile virus to save the lives of some endangered penguins in a zoo in a suburb of Portland, Or. Millions of dollars and two or three years later Avi aborted human clinical trials because of the problems in testing.
Story of Avi.

More than 300 million of the Washington coins have been produced. It has been confirmed that coins without the edge lettering have come from the Philadelphia Mint, although there have been some unconfirmed reports of flawed coins coming from the Denver Mint as well, Bailey says.
Coins without the edge lettering have sold for several hundred dollars, according to Coin World, a publication for collectors. But the price has dropped recently as more people estimate the number of flawed coins is in the thousands, making them less rare.
There have been reports of crooks filing down the edges on the coins to appear as errors to sell, American Numismatic Association spokesman Jay Beeton says.
The dollar-coin program features former presidents on the heads side in the order in which they served. Four coins will be released each year, similar to the popular state quarter program, which has turned millions of Americans into coin collectors.
The state quarters also had at least one error.
As many as 50,000 flawed Wisconsin state quarters entered circulation in 2004. The quarters featured what appeared to be an extra leaf on an ear of corn and in some cases sold for thousands of dollars. The government reported the quarters were the result of a machine error and were not intentionally produced.
Bush administration can’t even mint coins without screwin up.
Something tells me we will have huge news to talk about re: Cheney’s future within days. I don’t get these feelings often but when I do they’re pretty strong. I get a feeling this is all too much for him to deal with.

you can say that again!
On the one hand, if Cheney goes, he loses all claims to privilege that he might use to keep from testifying here and there. That argues for him staying, and having something to use in any Bush/Baker battles.
But on the other hand, all that backchannelling, OVP is a fourth branch networking, and plausible deniability guard duty says that Cheney’s fingerprints might actually be on more stuff than Bush’s. (Also, I’ll bet that OVP was probably kept away from a lot of WH/Rove operations, like possibly this US Attorney scandal.) That says that they might be able to get him to go quietly if he can be persuaded that the firewall will hold for a couple more years so far as he’s concerned.

prostratedragon @ 196
If Cheney leaves, he will have no legitimate means of avoiding being inundated with subpoenas… right now he’s trying to assert the same executive privilege to which the President is entitled on testifying in the Plame civil trial. A subpoena could reappear in the energy task force papers case–and, the legal talent to try fighting all this off will come out of his pocket, not the government’s, for the most part (even if the government ends up paying for some of it, his lawyers have to fight with the judges over the fees). And, with him leaving in mid-term, there’s no telling what sort of suits might come up about the disposition of his papers, etc.
The only way he’s leaving that job is feet first, I’m afraid. Even then, he’d still be dangerous, like a dead rabid dog….

But the thing of it is, you HAVE to keep getting closer. The only way to combat evil is to pour lots of sunlight and attention on it. Scrutiny causes reality to break out in all kinds of unexpected ways which is the greatest good of all.
Without your work and the work of others who tell that particular story by adding more insight on it from time to time, the longer these assholes get away with crimes and miscarriages of justice beyond all reason.

TY for stipulating that – I can visualize his impersonation of her but wanted nothing to do with visualizing the uh…more explicit…connotation of that thought.
I remember my first reaction to Ann Coulter when she first came to my attention back in the mid 90s and she really creeped me out as both a zealot and as something darker although then I was not sure what it was exactly. That of course did not take all that long to recognize, hate mongers and panderers (whatever the focus targeted) have a particularly nasty aspect to their souls that echoes outward no matter how hard they may be trying to mask in from my experiences (again, not that in her case she was doing much of that). These days though she has become the living parody of what she claimed to be opposed to a decade ago. She decried the existence of this powerful liberal elite, especially in the media, that dominated the political thinking of the day and even was supposed to be taken as a cultural oppressive force. She called various individuals the secret forces behind the control by this conspiracy of lefties. Now we have her acting as an “icon” of the political right that has been alas representative of the dominant influence within the GOP/conservative movement trying to shape a reality that is simply too far from where she wanted to go and even some of her usual supporters find her having gone too far. This of course would have *nothing* to do with the election results of last Nov though, nosiree. *rolls eyes*
I have never been too sure what truly motivates/drives this woman; while money and power/influence is clearly major influences/factors I can’t shake the sense there is something more deeply rooted in her than that. This is one twisted human being no matter whether true believer or straight out pandering hypocrite. Regardless of what the politics she claims are she simply speaks to the dark side of the human soul/nature and history is replete with examples of why one should deplore such people instead of holding them up as “icons” of a political movement as conservativism in America has been doing for so many years now and continues doing to this day. She may not be at her peak right now but she is far from out as of yet after all.
It is nice to see such effective applications of public disgust aimed at her pocketbook according to the rules of the free market she so dearly loves to hear herself talk about it. For me, anyone that can take her seriously has already demonstrated a red flag to be wary of their judgment, as while I can appreciate humour including very biting and sarcastic humour (while not generally practicing it, well not anymore) what she has said and written over the years in the name of such biting humour has been something far uglier and vile in nature/spirit. It is also the degree of intensity shown by the cult of personality she has around her, by her own express design and not by sheer chance of course, and I tend to get *very* uncomfortable when I see cults of personality forming around someone and not being actively discouraged in some manner, especially when it takes on a hard core edge as is clearly the case with her followers.
Well, it is not like I am telling anyone anything they do not already know about this extremely sorry excuse for a human being whose karmic accounting/balancing will be quite extreme. Still, it is nice to occasionally get some of it off one’s chest, she really is something most disturbing to observe in action regardless of the reception she gets, her arrogance and her willingness to commit to the fantasy world she publicly lives in (privately could and I would suspect is something quite different though I’d wager) and to use the tools of xenophobic pandering that she does exemplifies some of the ugliest aspects of the human heart/soul/nature for me. My one consolation is that whatever afterlife she ends up with is likely to be a rather unpleasant one given what she has built up in her lifetime to date from what I have seen.

I can understand this because of my aversion to writing about the underground Nazi music scene. I realize its not the same but a similar concept is involved.
As much as I love and support music, musicians, independent music and underground/experimental musicians in particular, the knowledge that there is a booming segment of the business using hate filled crappy music to advance their racist/fascist agenda is something I would prefer to ignore but find myself having to confront from time to time.
I was reminded of this a few days ago when I saw the story on Sadly, No! about the two and half year old flame war ongoing to this day in their comments thread about the Prussian Blue girls story they did from back in December of 2004. Reading some of those racist comments was shocking and hard for me to deal with.

That you can be who you are, and be real, and be upfront with the world, as uncomfortable as it can be sometimes, is what makes you someone to respect, and to be able to respect yourself.
We’re as sick as our secrets, and these people are sick, sick, sick. Don’t hate yourself for being human. Aren’t you glad to be among people who dig you for who you are, not who you pretend to be? You’re telling me. I saw comments like that about that same group at an old high school friend’s blog. He writes about music, and he wrote about this group. People I had gone to grade school with wrote in the comments about how…well, never mind, but they used their real names, and they were decidedly pro-white supremacy. My friend Tor found bliss when he met his boyfriend Kyeongseob.
What my shrink tells me is that I need intensive psychoanalysis so that I can overcome the barriers I have in place to developing enduring intimate relationships, and that once-a-week sessions just don’t cut it. My strong gut feeling is that he’s sincere, but that the main reason he’s recommending this is because it’s the type of head-shrinkage he himself practices. I hear what he’s saying, but don’t feel the need strongly enough to give up the time and energy in my life, especially given that I’m really trying to focus on finishing my PhD right now. After that, I’ll be entering a new work environment filled with lots of hot, highly intelligent young men, and a very liberal corporate policy on sexual orientation.
Am I crazy, or is he pretty much just doing the typical therapist routine of recommending more therapy?
Sorry to be so OT, but frankly I’d rather not discuss AC given the choice.

I recommend therapy to everyone. If you feel like you need it, you probably need it.
IANAMP (I Am Not a Medical Professional), but more than once a week in therapy sounds a bit excessive unless you are suffering from extreme depression and an inability to function.
Romantic relationships are such a luxury, and yet people so seldom realize them as such when they’re in them. They bicker. They complain. They cheat.
Funny.
Well, anyhoo. Juan Carlos has informed me that bedtime has arrived. You kids have a good night. Everybody sleep well.
TRex @ 240
I had to wait a long time and do a lot of inside work before I met my husband. He’s an odd duck. I’m an odd duck. I had a hard time meeting anyone because I’m not like most people. But it only takes one. And because of that I do appreciate being in a relationship and try very hard not to take it for granted. We’ve been married 15 years and although it’s not always gazebos and jelly beans, I’m grateful.
I worked hard on being the sort of person that would have something to offer a quality guy. After that, I stopped attracting losers.
Well, I’m kinda feeling like I don’t need therapy right now. I’m just trying to reconcile what I’m feeling with what my shrink is recommending.
I definitely see the value in therapy, but also think there’s such a thing as being over-therapized. I also had a really bad experience with a therapist many years ago. (Suffice it to say, the only thing holding me back from reporting him so that his license gets stripped away is the fear that his paranoid wife will go after my family in retaliation)
I hear what you’re saying about romantic relationships. I’m not actively looking for any right now, because I don’t feel that I need the extra complexity in my life. But if the right person comes along and it’s a ker-POW, then, sure.
Isn’t there a Clinton precedent regarding the civil case? Anyway, I’m not making a claim either way about what he’ll finally do, except that I agree he won’t just up and resign on his own accord, even if his health deteriorates badly. (And the clot thing is just because he didn’t observe precautions while he was trying to avoid the Libby verdict on that long goodwill trip, not a sign of deterioration.)
What I do think is that if WH want him gone, it might be possible for them to top anything he has to threaten them with some of his own off-books wanderings. Or, in a stalemate he can stay and be neutralized but protected as far as the privilege claim will take him, or he can go and hope that Congress sticks to a pseudo- rather than real oversight regime. If keeping the vise-grips applied to the necessary appendages so that both Cheney and Bush stay protected starts to get too expensive, then Cheney will be shoved out as surely and Rumsfeld was.
As has been said, if Libby gets an early pardon, which some say would be against guideline, then Cheney is staying by mutual agreement. If not, then look for other shoes to start falling, or rather getting thrown his way.
Night, TRex. Don’t let the KO fame go to your oversized head. I don’t mean that as an insult, just observing the contrast with your teeny arms. Uh, never mind.

Simplicity itself.
Find an Irish lass, preferably one from County Cork. No one knows what they are saying and they say whatever it is that they might be saying most charmingly.
When my brother bought a train ticket in Dublin to get to the family farm in Cork years ago, the clerk advised him not to go. “Even I can’t understand those people,” said the Dubliner. What a delight.
Best, Terry

Then I compiled the additions, placing them at the end of Hugh’s list. Then Hugh got back into it. It’s getting REAL long.
If you have anything new, go
ahead, uh, back to the previous thread and add your impeachable offense to Hugh’s list.TRex @

I did that once, many years ago. Well, wait. I wouldn’t say that he didn’t speak *any* English, but very very very little. His friend used to make verbal passes at me right in front of him and didn’t know it was happening.

Yeah, I can’t think of the case style, but Bugliosi wrote a book about it called “No Island of Sanity,” iirc
Hey ET, how’s Alaska tonight?

I am in a similar set of straits. I might benefit from therapy but most likely not. All of my mental health issues are depression related, but it is my medical issues that are chronic conditions that will never go away that are the sources of my depression. Its a self reinforcing depressive loop from which there is literally no escape. Hence, I refuse therapy based more on perturbance of my schedule and economic grounds.
As for romantic entanglements, I refuse to burden a nice woman with the very large baggage I am carrying. If someone comes along willing to push on the other side of the baggage cart with me though I won’t say no – I just don’t expect to have someone come along and size me up thinking “MMM gots to have me some of dat!” anytime soon.
Ed*ard Teller, that list won’t pass muster. I don’t see blow job on it.

The 3-week clear sky spell ended yesterday. This morning it snowed about 2 inches in an hour, then stopped and got windy. Cold and windy now, but winter will be over soon. I’ve been busy tonight rebuilding the legs on a pool table and getting ready to make reservations for a trip to the Ashland (Oregon) Festival in late May.
Any good news on buyers for the house?

Anyway good morning! I’m back to lurking here!

Come on, gang! Hugh came up with the list, doggies added onto it, and i thought it might be a good idea to keep a compilation going that included new ideas. I’m sure Bush will create more reasons for his impeachment shortly after 8:00 a.m.
I think my only contributions were the Jessica Lynch falsehoods – which killed innocent Iraqis and injured US soldiers – and the oil drilling in bristol Bay. Bristol Bay may not be impeachable.
As far as the Gannon BJs, I think these guys are totally anal.
Well, my work here is done for tonight. I must sleep. Gnight pups!
ET, was not finding WMD on there?
G’nite fini, sleep well.
Re the list: what are the “signing statements”?
Reading that list — its cumulative effect — is powerful stuff.
Spoiler, instead of vetoing things he disagrees with, he signs the bill and then attachs a signing statement that basically says I’m President In Time Of War and he will do what he sees fit.
Or something similar. I am certainly no bush scandal expert but I believe he has issued more signing statements than all other presidents combined.
prostratedragon @ 243
Yeah, there ought to be, but it wasn’t the same as Republicans going up to Republican judges, y’know?
Difficult to say about this–neither Cheney nor Bush are actually that smart, though they are both nasty, devious fucks. And Cheney is completely amoral–the soul of a mafia don–if he were really threatened, I have very few doubts that he wouldn’t throw Bush under the bus. If it turned into a free-for-all between Oval Office and OVP, the likelihood of both factions making serious–public–mistakes goes up exponentially. Both of them have enough on each other that they’d be like two scorpions in a box–equally dangerous to each other.
But, this notion that they are privately warring with each other over policy sounds to me just a leetle bit like inside-the-Beltway sports pages stuff, maybe even engineered by the WH to distract from whatever (Iran) they’ve got up their collective sleeves. My guess is that Bush and Cheney don’t disagree much when in private on the big items. It’s only when Kindasleezza sneaks around Cheney and diverts Bush’s attention that the WaPo gets all atwitter….
Bush’s father said fuck the guidelines, too, with Cap Weinberger–pardoned him days before he was set to go to trial, and early in his term, too, as I recall. (!)
As long as Libby stays out of jail, pending appeal, etc., there likely won’t be a pardon. If Bush does one, it’ll be at the very last moment. If Libby stays free past the 2008 elections, I doubt it will make a difference to Bush one way or another.
But, for sure, they aren’t giving us any hints. This late in the game, if they did, I wouldn’t trust them, anyway. :)
Thanks, Suzanne.
So he creates the war by lying, then says the war is his free ticket to be a dictator…
Spoiler @ 261
spoiler, when courts decide how to construe laws, one of the things they look at is legislative intent, which can, the theory goes, be inferred from legislative history, i.e. what was said in Congressional debates and so on. Bush (actually David Addington in Cheney’s office) has this theory that the courts should also be looking at the history of the intent of the president who signed a bill and made it law. So throughout his time in office he (his staff) has been writing “signing statements” that purport to say, “this is what the president thought the law meant when he signed it” and his position is that courts should give his understanding equal weight with legislative intent. The Constitution does not mention this concept. Often the statements he signs directly contradict Congressional intent. He has vetoed only one bill since taking office, but he has signed many bills while attempting to gut them by stating his “understanding” of the bills in a way that is sharply contrasting to what the bills actually say and what Congress was trying to accomplish. It is a form of overreaching and attempting to do an end run around the separation of powers doctrine. Through his “signing statements,” Bush is in effect attempting to legislate.
At least, that is how I understand it.
Spoiler @ 257
Are you absolutely sure? Some of those BFF notes that Miers wrote suggest otherwise.
A few more come to mind. Cheney shooting his buddy in the face, and possibly lying about his alcohol consumption. My Pet Goat. Multiple inconsistencies in Bush’s story about seeing the first plane hit the WTC. Lawrence Franklin and AIPAC espionage scandal.
Bush, “Susan”, and Larry Flynt. Hey, never proved, but good enough by Clinton Rules, hey?
I was gone most of the latenight here, so I’m not sure anybody has commented on Huffington Post’s BIG lede on interviewing the Libby jurors. the timeline on its posting is confusing, so it might be breaking news for Thursday morning.
nite, gang.
What Suzanne said–he often uses the doctrine of the “unitary executive” in his signing statements, arguing that we are at war and I am the commander in chief and therefore my powers are unlimited and anything I say goes, whether the law has anything to do with the war or not. I have long felt that putting himself in a position to make that claim was a major reason for the War on Terra and the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. A perpetual state of war to make him unlimited commander in chief of EVERYTHING, not just the military as the Constitution provides.
g’nite et.
That’s it for me tonight, folks. G’nite all.
neurophius @ 266
Generally, all true. But, a little history. Other presidents have used signing statements, but, except in some instances in the Reagan years, they were primarily used to put everyone on notice that the President’s office felt that some portion of the legislation enacted might be unconstitutional and that the Solicitor General might be requesting judicial review.
That usage is pretty much hunky-dory–but Bush and Cheney have used them as a means of threatening to ignore portions of law they don’t like… an exceedingly broad interpretation of a concept that has been largely ignored judicially.
Bush’s Freudian slip a few years ago, “the Congress makes the law, the Executive interprets them,” tells everyone all they want to know about what people like Addington have been telling this mental midget.
Thanks for the clarification, montag. I failed to mention that Bush/Cheney/Addington/Libby/Yoo/Gonzales et al. didn’t invent signing statements, they have just used/abused them in a perverse manner to promote their unitary executive theory.
neurophius @ 272
Exactly. That’s the diseased root of the problem.
that is THE scariest fucking thing I have ever seen in my 58 years on this planet!

That is one scary image, but I have to agree with El Gato Negro – it looks an awful lot like her real pictures.

The worst said about liberals is by liberals.
“You are a liberal,” says Ann Coulter.
“I am a progressive,” say liberals.
The Limbaugh/Coulter tirades are just political porn. The “progressive” evasion is damning.
Funny thing about Coulter. If she got all the way nekkid she would still be a bore. Fancy that. A long-legged blonde flaunting her bod and she is scintillating only to the rightwing nutcases looking for political porn. Why bother giving her any attention?
Best, Terry
terry hallinan @ 278
But they are appreciated by the right, perhaps as light pornographic entertainment. When David Brock got off their bus, they were not happy about it, for instance.
As far as “progressive” being a cop-out and a diversion, the moniker was coined a long time before the clowns on the media right decided to co-opt “liberal” as an epithet. Look around. I think you’ll find that’s so. The Progressive magazine was founded, for example, in 1909.
Cheers.
montag @ 279
You haven’t dealt with the charge frankly, my friend.
A cousin ran for president as a Progressive. He was in jail at the time as the result of a campaign against Progressives. His wife had to give the acceptance speech.
My son become a poll watcher for the Progressives after his female roommate was roughed up by Daley’s thugs in Chicago.
There is a Progressive Party to this day that is quite radical like the Progressives in Wisconsin.
Those liberals styling themselves as progressives hardly partake of the radical tradition of the true Progressives. They are denying the truth of what they are. It would be no more honest if liberals claimed they were really Prohibitionists or Vegetarians.
The lies of Coulter and Limbaugh are just noise. More poisonous, of course, are the attacks of a Tim Russert or Chris Matthews abetted by the denials of liberals.
Best, Terry
Edward Teller –
It’s very late, and maybe I’ve missed you as I pop in here briefly at this ungodly hour, but here’s an item I don’t see on the list of impeachable offenses. It happened quite early, too –
The movement of a LOT of money (I think it was somewhere around three-quarters of a billion dollars) from the Afghanistan theater of operations [which HAD been authorized by Congress] to preparations for the invasion of Iraq.
This was before the Iraq War resolution, and Congress had been given NO IDEA that all that money was being shuttled to an un-appropriated purpose. That was the first time I had the word “impeachment” on my lips.
Mrs. K8 @ 281
Absolutely, diversion of specific appropriations without a request to Congress–or even notification–should be impeachable. As I recall, the number bandied about was $700 million.
There were also those reports of actually starting the war in the July-August 2002 timeframe (bombing Baghdad infrastructure). That’s illegal, too.
And, the hiding of several thousand pages of supporting documents for weapons compliance by the Iraqis before the UN resolution–that sort of manipulation of evidence shouldn’t be tolerated, either.
How you feelin’, Mrs. K8?
I am looking at the rebroadcast of Tim Russert on Imus yesterday.
Tim Russert is fully informed and wants investigations to continue.
I look forward to NBC News doing some first rate investigative journalism.
We deserve no less, Tim.
Hey, montag! Good to see you!
This morning I go to the pain doctor for the regular monthly follow-up.
Not sure if you caught my whining about it last week, but my sister and her husband came to this part of the country and visited with us last weekend — so Mr. K8 and I were jamming about three years’ worth of missed spring cleanings into approximately a week and a half of intense, uh, tidyings.
Surprisingly, we got the place presentable. Am now completely exhausted, though! But in a nicely straightened up and better-decorated surrounding, LOL!!!
The icky part was the strange behavior of brother-in-law. He went on non-stop almost about “illegals” — had never heard him use racial epithets before. I pretended like I was giving him the benefit of the doubt by saying that he was probably, as a Northeastern guy, unaware that the term “wetback” was unacceptable — so I was doing him the favor of letting him know about that.
Tense moments. Then they flew home. Within a few hours we received in the email a “joke” — it was of course a “Mexican” “joke.”
I spent the first couple days of this week writing a very firm, but simultaneously diplomatic response on the part of Mr. K8 and me, all about what sort of “humor” we expect never to see in our inbox again.
It was very very strange. I’ve never heard him use language like that before, and never would have guessed he had it in him. I have no idea what’s going on with him. Consultations with the OTHER sister (the one I get along with really well) offered absolutely no clues. She was as shocked as we were.
So now I’m REALLY exhausted.
So how are YOU, sweetie?
:-)
Good morning, pups. What a picture to start the morning with! It’s Bobo, MoDo and Bob Herbert in the NYT today. I’ll let you guess which one is worth reading…
http://mgpaquin.blogspot.com/
Now I’m going to trot back up, face that picture again, and read TRex. Coffee’s on, tea is made, and there are bagels and cream cheese. Enjoy.
Mrs. K8,
Your brother in law wouldn’t by any chance be in earshot of a Boston radio station would he?
There is a guy on WTKK fm who has no problem using racial terms in an offensive way. He’s got a group of fans who have begun to talk this way.
We just elected a black governor. He was doing a piece on the show which precedes this jerk. The governor’s half hour was called: Ask the Governor.
This idiot started his show with: Ax the Governor.
He’s appalling. He appears infrequently on Imus. I am taking lessons from TRex on this one.
Mrs. K8 @ 284
Ah, that’s unfortunate. Especially after wearing yourself out making things presentable for them. You’ll know better next time. :)
Me, I’m just cruising low to the ground, under the radar, most of the time. :)
Some local politics stuff coming up, thanks to the DOE and a few greedy rednecks who’ve been up to no good for years now.
Cheers.
This guy justifies using the term “wetbacks” by going to the history of the term. Uses it constantly.
Boston1775 @ 288
Howie Carr wannabes are such a drag…. :)
Boston1775 @ 286
Hi, there Boston!
No, I doubt my bro-in-law is listening to that, unless it’s syndicated into the Delaware Valley area. This sister and her husband are now living in Bucks County PA, and can get both Philadelphia and Trenton radio stations — they can probably pick up some stronger stations out of NYC, too, maybe.
What’s weird about this guy is that he’s always been a strongly liberal kinda guy. In spite of having worked his way up into being a pretty big shot in the business world before he retired, he always identified with the underdog.
I’ve known him since I was a little kid, my sister is lots older than me. He grew up in a city neighborhood where his ethnic group (Polish) had pretty strong resentments about the results of urban real estate redlining. But their attitudes were directed at their new neighbors rather than at the manipulation of the real estate and business communities. Not THIS guy — this is the only guy of that group I’m aware of who did NOT ONCE ever utter the “n” word. Always seemed to be a big fan of the civil rights movement, as it was happening.
So I don’t get it.
They DID move into a snazzy new “retirement” development. A gated community.
Maybe he’s been hanging out with “bad company” these days.
The nuns always warned us about that in grade school. Looks like they were right.
;-)
Mrs. K8 @ 290
Gated community… and who would likely be doing the yardwork in such a place? And would the members of such a place be constantly complaining about the lazy hired help…?
Yep, Bad Company seems the likely culprit here….
Boston1775 @ 288
Almost forgot to say this, my condolences on your having this jerk within radio earshot.
What’s his name, if you don’t mind my asking?
And yes, my bro-in-law was acting like it was some kind of “historical” term.
So I said something like “well I suppose that some people think the racial epithet ’spearchucker’ is some type of ‘historical’ term for blacks, huh?”
My suggestion was that if he wasn’t willing to stand up in front of an audience of a couple hundred Mexican Americans, lets say at one of his chamber of commerce type meetings, and use that term, then it’s certainly not a term I or my husband want to hear either.
What really outrages me is when people assume that because I’m not a “minority” that all this crap will somehow be acceptable to me. My blood pressure goes through the roof on that one.
And then complicating the situation (as far as his wife, my sister, is concerned) is my personal moral imperative. I feel it is my DUTY for moral, ethical, and religious reasons to SPEAK UP when this sort of language is uttered in my presence. Doesn’t matter if it’s a neighbor, a doctor, a professor of mine, a church member, a complete stranger, or a family member. Won’t and can’t go unchallenged by me.
It’s my belief that racists and racist-fellow-travellers are able to flourish because others remain silent instead of speaking out and making clear that such language and sentiments are completely utterly socially TABOO.
(edited a typo’d pronoun)
montag, truer words cannot be spoken.
Mrs. K8, It’s troubling.
I truly wonder if the radio waves, bulging with this kind of talk from these supposed Conservatives, is giving permission for people to say things that were once deemed unacceptable. (Didn’t we work to make it unacceptable?)
I think it will take lawsuits, big expensive lawsuits, to cause radio stations to stop allowing racial attacks.
His name is Jay Severin.
He literally loves to talk about being “well-bred”. You can’t believe what comes out of his mouth.
He tries so hard to be witty on IMUS, but I think Imus is beginning to smell this predator of the weak.
Boston –
You are absolutely right about that. The fight will go on, and every one of us has to be willing to wage it. Folks say to me, “let it go!” I say, “Excuse me, do you actually go to CHURCH on Sunday? And you say ‘let it go’?” That usually stops ‘em dead. (Unless they don’t go to church! But you know what I mean — I try to shame people who act like it’s ME who’s rude. Ha!)
Montag –
Just read your link. Do you mind if I ask in a general way what part of the country you’re in? Bless you for fighting the good fight in your local community!
It’s always somethin’ — as we “old ladies” like to say. But seriously, we have our multiple tasks cut out for us, don’t we? Thank goodness for the Lake, which is such a wonderful place to come for refreshment during the marathon we have to run. You all certainly help my morale.
Jay Severin, I’ve heard that name. I’ll have to check and see if he’s syndicated in the Philly/Trenton area. Thanks for the heads-up.
None of this crap is new. When doing genealogical research in Media, PA I discovered a bunch of old local newspapers from the turn of the nineteenth to twentieth century. There were articles about how the factory owners were setting the Italians (who were hoping to unionize or at least in some other way bargain somehow for better conditions) against the newcomers — the Hungarians!
The Hungarians were said to be swarms of dirty smelly people with funny-smelling foods and odd-sounding language. And they were supposed to be a bunch of criminals who should never have gotten into the country, and who beat their wives, and drink too much, and get into barroom brawls.
That was a real eye-opener. And it was all manipulated from the top-down by the greed-heads.
Same battles.
I expect to be battling till I draw my last breath. But I draw strength from other old traditions, the traditions of folks like Woody Guthrie, Studs Terkel, all the great ones through the many decades. Eleanor Roosevelt is my hero.
It helps that I like to think I’m just humbly drawing strength from their towering shadows. And if I get depressed, I think — if Nelson Mandela could endure what he did and not falter, well then who the hell am I to get depressed?
Boston1775 @ 294
Umm, if Wiki is correct, no, you can’t trust anything that he says….
I think the fact that he worked on Pat Buchanan’s campaign in 1996 probably explains a good deal… if that’s true. :)
Mrs. K8 @ 295
Umm, southwest. Unfortunately, we seem to be fighting the community most of the time. :)
It’s like Pavlov’s dogs around here, ding the jobs bell and everyone starts salivating… little do they know they’re being led down the garden path on this one. *sigh*
montag, thanks for the link. I haven’t mastered links yet.
Mrs. K8, What a wonderful way to start the day. Thanks for writing. I’m inspired.

Thanks for that link. What a hoot!
I just read the whole thing and all I can think is, “Who does he think he is? Bill O’Reilly with his Peabody awards?” LOL!!!
“Jay Severin Has Issues” was the name of a prospective show. I’ll say he does.
Yet another unhinged racist blowhard.
Well, my sleep schedule is all out of whack, slept during the day yesterday. But I think I should catch a cat-nap now before the doctor’s appt.
Have a wonderful day at school, Boston!
And a beautiful day to you, montag, and to all the Firepups just rising and shining and meeting the new dawn.
Thanks for you all here at the Lake and your wonderful conversation.

Oh by the way, the above guy is a major Romney backer. Next to his father and some teacher/coach, Romney is this guy’s hero.
Massachusetts couldn’t usher Romney out of this state fast enough.
Good Morning, Firepups,
Clear and cold here in central Jersey, where racist, homophobic blow hards do indeed get airtime. I went to the Philadelphia Flower Show with my sister and her friend yesterday, and we turned on the radio as we were leaving to get traffic reports. My sister’s friend suggested tuning in to 101.5, Jersey talk radio for the frequent traffic & weather reports, recommending it for the humor which she finds outrageous but listens to every day on the way home from work.
We listened for a very few minutes as one of the afternoon shock jocks talked about how great it would be to have a job as a corrections officer because of all the “poontang” he’d be able to get. It was actually much more vile than that, and my sister immediately changed the radio station, saying we’d get our traffic info from someplace else. She did it without embarrassing her friend’s taste, but was very firm that she didn’t want to listen to anything more.
I don’t listen to shock radio, or watch television at all [never seen many of the right wing scream machine people discussed on progressive blogs], so I’m always amazed when I do hear or read about what they say. But, sadly bigoted and offensive people can be found everywhere–even here in the Northeast.
Keep up the good fight, and push back whenever there’s an opportunity for a teachable moment.
Marion in Savannah, do you have any cinnamon raisin bagels? I’d love one of those this morning.

My daughter came in and I quickly scrolled down. What’s weird about it is that the scariest thing about the picture are the eyes!
It seems Annie does not like to be reminded that she was Patient Zero, the Typhoid Mary of CDS (Clinton Derangement Syndrome) back in the mid-90’s, when she was a fresh-faced young thing of 65.
Paul Jones’ Secret Elves! It does me good to remember.
Congrats to TRex for the shout-out on countdown.

I agree.
Then too, any picture of Coulter is gross.
Best, Terry

Yeah I have a 2-year old niece that is really sensitive and anything disturbing makes her cry, so I have to switch channels really quick, lest I scare the poor baby.

He knows exactly what he got himself into. He has excellent advisors in the field telling him that we are one Friedman away from a Vietnam-style collapse: http://www.guardian.co.uk/fron…..6,00.html. But after that comes his next star, that’s his deal with Bush.

Yep – all hat and no cattle.
darkblack – That pic looks like a painting from Night Gallery, and that show scared HELL out of me when I was a kid!!
For some reason the Lovecraft story “Pickman’s Model” comes to mind…
Pickman’s Model by HP Lovecraft
NOTE TO SELF – Do NOT peek into Firedoglake before bedtime. *shudders*
KestrelBrighteyes @ 320
It looks a little carnie, that’s all.
Wigwam @ 318
Geez, after reading that link, comparisons to Vietnam would almost be encouraging… this is more like the British in Iraq in 1920….
But, it’s not going to take a Friedman for that to be apparent…. *sigh*
Antidote to Ann Coulter: Lullabies blacklisted by the Bush Admisnitration. (sorry couldn’t resist.)
Would someone in charge please remove that photo. It’s disgusting! I’m sure it’s meant to be, but still! Get rid of it! The person/thing should not be a subject of conversation here at all. The person/thing doesn’t rate! Believe me!
!!!
(I am, of course, talking about the picture of Karl Rove.)
CPAC is supposed to be a FAMILY event – there were children there. Wonder how many of those good self-righteous Christians who applauded and cheered when Coulter dropped the “f” bomb then had to explain to their children what that word means and why they should NOT use it?
Or maybe the “conservatives” treat that word the same way the KKK treats the “n” word when teaching THEIR children who to hate.
Conservative family values – gotta love ‘em.
Coulter’s a perfect icon for the neo-conservatives who have hijacked the Republican party. I can’t help but think they keep inviting her to speak at events such as these because she says out loud what they believe but won’t dare speak in public. Until enough TRUE conservatives stand up and say, “She does not represent us”, she’ll continue to be the gift that just keeps on giving.
Yesterday on Ed Schultz radio (AirAmerica) show, he interviewed the Joseph Wilson. Wilson said he followed the Libby trial on firdoglake.com.
Thought you’d like to hear that.
The picture is scary not to mention the maw that goes with it. Is this what happens when shall we say, you have Matt for dinner. I certainly hope not.
(Remember the Libby’s commercial jingle tune?)
If it says
Libby, Libby, Libby
at the trial, trial, trial,
Guilty, Guilty, Guilty, Guilty,
No denial, -nial, -nial.

maybe so, but the WH insists Petraeus listen to these two -
Keane & Kagan
Dr. Kagan ?
oh, and from their greatest hits -

‘Morning, FirePups!! Good gravy, I am SO glad I went to bed early and missed FDL Late Nite; that pic of Coultergeist before bed would have given me nightmares!!!
I will say this about her — she has provided an excellent example for discussion with my kids.
As in, “If I EVER catch you acting like Coulter, I will permanently ground you until you are graduated from high school!!”
But seriously…we did have a discussion yesterday about the use of the f* word, explained why pejorative use of certain words (even if cultural slang) is all too common and unacceptable, and that the measure of this particular word’s inappropriate use is to swap it out with other inappropriate words in similar or parallel situations. My kids already know that the n* word is to NEVER cross their lips, that an immediate response would be necessary if it ever did, that we do not tolerate its use in our presence, and that our real friends would never use it, either. If that creature had used a different pejorative like the n* word in that situation, we would have been absolutely repulsed. I told them that f* is just like that because it meets the “swap out test” — WE do not use it, ever. EVER.
We also have another Mom-rule, that lets the kids blow off steam. They are allowed to use a swear word only once, in the right context, within the “cone of silence” that is my car. There’s usually so much giggling about it that whatever drove them to want to swear has passed by the time they finally get the word out. The Mom-rule on swearing also forbids the use of that word in any other context, including in front of the father or at school. But there are words that are never, EVER used, and the f* is one of them, not even in the “cone of silence” inner sanctum of my Honda CR-V.
I suspect Coulter’s momma didn’t wash that girl’s mouth out with soap often enough as a child, and probably ignored her a lot, so that she had to escalate her behavior constantly to get attention. Seems like a theme on that side of the aisle.
It takes Robert Novak to bring some sense to this issue.
From today’s WaPo:
A Verdict on the Wilson Affair
(excerpt)
The Libby trial uncovered no plot hatched in the White House. The worst news Tuesday for firebrand Democrats was that Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald was going back to his “day job” (as U.S. attorney in Chicago). With no underlying crime even claimed, the only question was whether Libby had consciously and purposefully lied to FBI agents and the grand jury about how he learned of Mrs. Wilson’s identity. …

Anon at 331 — Oh man. Good snark. HAHAHAHA
Christy Hardin Smith @ 332
Is that a real article or a send up?
Fresh thread, everyone.
LHP — It’s a real one. Check the WaPo.

Kagan and Keane are ideologues at whose straws Bush now grasps — anything to avoid admitting defeat for another 22 months. Petraeus, however, has said that he gives the surge a one-in-four chance of working. In fact, he knows that the chances are much slimmer than that. But he’s relatively sure of getting that next star.

Hasn’t she ever heard of Anita Bryant?
Good thing Ms. Coulter is in no need of a good hairdresser.

While “firedoglake” (whatever that means) condenms Ann Coulter for her “hatred”, whilst also calling Perez Hilton a “queen”, or referring to those on the right as “conserv-a-tard”…
might it be professional jealous, “dog”, that fuels your own hatred?
thanks
I am last-That is a picture that I cannot look at. In all seriousness it is that disturbing, like something from a horror picture that is close to reality. Please take it down.
If a photograph can be said to be a perfect metaphor then the image above fits the bill.
