It was cold as hell outside the Prettyman Courthouse when Patrick Fitzgerald was giving his statement and answering questions, and as I was shifting back and forth from one foot to the other I saw the courthouse's Sheldon Snook talking with Dennis Colins, the juror who had formerly worked with Bob Woodward of the Washington Post. I went over and started chatting and got to talk to him by myself for about 7 or 8 minutes before David Schuster came barrelling up to ask him if he wanted to be on Hardball, and then he was deluged. Sheldon eventually pulled him up to the microphones and he took questions for the cameras.
He was a very thoughtful guy who said the jury was very serious and took their responsibility very seriously, and that there were many tears at the end. I told him I ran a blog largely populated by people who were fascinated by the case and wondered if the jury had become likewise involved in mapping out the details (I didn't use the word "Plameologist" but I'm sure they'll hear it soon). He said that this was true and that the first thing they did was fill out 34 or so of the huge "post it" pads (2' x 3') with names, dates and details. Where have I heard that before?
Anyway, I asked him about the juror who was dismissed, if she was happy to be out of there. He said no, they liked her and he thought she was sorry to be gone. He said the other jurors may want to talk to the press at some point but for now they did not want to be identified. He was very impressed with how methodical they were and he used the word "dispassionate" to describe their deliberations. He said they deliberated for a whole week before they reached a verdict on any of the charges.
He eventually got dragged before the cameras and said that there was a lot of compassion on the jury for Libby, that they felt he was the"fallguy," and they wanted to know where Karl Rove was in all of this. He was loathe to answer questions about Dick Cheney beyond the fact that Libby was obviously doing whatever he did at Cheney's behest, and the Cheney notes on the Wilson July 6 article seemed especially damning. He wouldn't say whether testimony by Cheney would have helped Libby or not, and seemed unwilling to discuss anything that they were not tasked with deliberating.
He did say that Hannah's testimony totally screwed Libby, and I got a chuckle out of that. At the same time Hannah was talking about how bad Libby's memory was, he also claimed that Libby had an incredible grasp of detail, and the jury believed he just would not have forgotten so much in the way that the defense was trying to claim. They found Russert to be a credible witness but thought there was enough reasonable doubt in the Cooper false statement charge (he said/he said) for "someone" to assume reasonable doubt. It appears there was only one holdout on Count Three that kept Libby from a 5 count grand slam.
It was quite inspirational to get a chance to talk to him, and to hear how seriously the jury had deliberated. You never know what's going to happen with a jury until they come back and all I can say is — it was worth every bit of effort we put into being here. There haven't been a lot of days in the past 7 years when you could say that justice triumphed, but the system worked and it felt damn good to be there when it did.
Thank you all.

Fitz!
I loved that Hannah screwed Libby. He made us sit through hours of “how very important Libby was” before Fitzgerald hit him like a bullet train. As a Cheney proxy he may have done his work after all.
Thank YOU all for doing such a great job covering this!!
No, Jane, THANK YOU!!!
Thanks Jane, Good luck with your healing and thanks for staying with us though this.
JANE!
Fitz in war, Fitz in peace, Fitz in the hearts of his countrymen.
Kudos to FDL as well.
Team Fitz!
Thanks to Jane Christy Marcy Pach Swopa Trex and all of Team Plame!
Blessings and gratitude for defending our Republic and Constitution.
This is good news. But I would like to ask the fine reporters/researchers at FDL; What’s (or who’s) next?
Oh shoot, sorry about sticking The Pen into moderation, guys. Wasn’t thinking clearly. :*-(
Where are you Marcy and Christy headed next?????
The Hill?
I loved, loved, loved that juror. I saw the entire press conference from work.
Amazing, so many of the things Jane and Marcy speculated on were right on.
I say again, GREAT JOB – fdl crew.
NO, thank you!
Jane, Collins said in the press conference, after you talked to him, that they had a verdict on one charge the first day.
Thank you so very much for being there, and giving us this window into the trial.
in a word: whew.
(actually, a few more. YIPPEE!! and FITZ! and the crew here’bouts!!)
Howard Dean is on MSNBC right now, discussing the Scooter verdict.
A question I have for Team Fitz:
What help did you find, if any, from Marcy Wheeler?
What was that “Perry Mason moment” again, Ted?
Heh.
Do we know who served as the foreperson of the jury?
Thanks for all your work on this FDL. I’ve become quite the fan over the past 2 years.
I think most of us here who remembered the kind of detail that’s been discussed here in the past couple of years knew that it would take the jury… well, a bit of time. And that they’d get dragged into it.
They proved that anyone can be a Plameologist.
Thank us? No, thank you. All of you at FDL.
I watched the juror’s tv time. And I would swear that that was lovely Jane in a fine black hat standing behind him the whole time!
Gosh, lunch should be great today! Now I really do need to tend to cleaning my house! I have let a lot go this past week.
forget beer thirty;
it’s beer tuesday!
a new national hiliday for progressives from hence forth
Thanks Jane .
It’s because of you that I have followed this for so long.
We Can Be Heroes…for (more than) just one day
Jane will be interviewed on a new PRI show, Fair Game, this evening. It streams via WNYC in New York, at 8 pm ET(from the AM station but not the FM station)(airs in other markets at 7PM – check the site below for yours):
http://www.wnyc.org/stream/am.pls
our web site is here:

MP3s of the show will be up there later tonight.
http://www.pri.org/fairgame.html
How many bags of popcorn are going to be popped at PlameHouse tonight? And are the neighbors going to have to call the police because of the cheering? ;-)
Thanks much Jane. And thanks too Christy. And thanks also to Marcy.
Jane–
Can you tell us how Nr. Collins responded when asked what seemed to be the final question about Libby being the fall guy? All of the talking heads talked over this very important response and I almost threw my laptop at the television. Is that when he talked about the Cheney notes on the Wilson article? Lots of people were frustrated by this in the last thread.
Thank you, Jane. And all the rest of the FDL crew: Christy, Marcy, Pachacutec, TRex, Swopa, Peterr, Phoenix Woman, eRiposte, et. al. Apologies to the people whose names I’ve missed here.
And, just as importantly, thanks to all the techs who have kept FDL running. I don’t know your handles, except for RBG, but we know you’re there and we thank you for all your work too.
Yes, thanks for everyone’s coverage and for posting about your conversation with Collins.
Perhaps he’ll write something about his experience.
Longtime lurker…
Jane, I had a chance to thank Marcy personally during Fitz’s presser before I had to return to work (note to FDLers — do not interrupt Marcy while Fitz is speaking), but didn’t see you or I’d have done the same.
To both of you…congrats and getting the story right when no one else was, and following it through to the end.
Talk about a Profile in Courage Jane, you and the gang are it. I am always inspired by this, and I thought it especially appropriate…
Fuckin’ A it is Sam.
Jane, I think that you’ve started something here that will turn out to be much bigger than the trial you’ve covered. I think this may be the birth of a new, narrowly focused, but widely aimed, media. Not to enage in too much hyperbole, but this verges on the historic. I said earlier that you should get on over to the Walter Reed hearings, or maybe the ones about the attorney firings — and I meant it. We can’t depend on the MSM any more — too much detail gets lost, too many private agendas are untold, and the truth gets shortchanged. Take your time — but not too much time — and consider what you have created, and what you should do next. Kudos to Jane and Marcy and ‘Tech, and everyone who contributed to this endeavor. Wonderful work.
And how fitting that you would get this scoop, Jane! Thanks so much to all of you at FDL for your commitment to reporting, analyzing, and commenting on this case.
And HOORAY for justice!
Nan
I watched as much of the juror’s presser as the stations would show. That all three of the supposed cable news channels left the juror in mid sentence is, to me, unforgivable. Whatever respect I had for any of them, and it was mighty low to begin with, went down the drain. Shame on them.
Thank you to the entire FDL “courthouse crew”. You all did a fantastic job!!!!
Mr. Collins– sorry.
Something tells me that Dennis Colins is going to wind up in the sights of the wingnuts: evil liberal WaPo journalist railroading a good man, blah blah blah. Of course, we know how far to the right the Post has moved, and how Woodward, Colins’ old boss, has become the stenographer to power, but that’s what they’ll say.
Note to self: must marry Jane Hamsher!
Congratulations to the FDL team, you will be recorded in the history books about this trial. Indeed, the definitive book on the trial itself will be written by one of you, just like Marcy’s book is the definitive pre-trial book.
Saw most of Fitzgerald’s post-trial conference on the WaPo live video link. Was somewhat disappointed about the inactive status of the investigations, but I can understand Fitzgerald’s view. Libby has a choice: negotiate with Fitzgerald about Cheney’s role in exchange for Martha Stewart type jail-time (Libby: you can be as strong as Martha, can’t you?), or roll the dice on an appeal or a pardon. Fitzgerald also might have winked at the Democratic Congress to pick up the investigative trail, but that gets complicated if an appeal is still in progress. Wouldn’t want Libby to escape via the Ollie North route.
Jane– Thanks again for all you do. Please take all the time you need to heal and rest. The sprint is over, and there’s still a marathon ahead. xoxo.
Christy & Jane, you have both done such an outstanding job on this case. It is my opinion that you both, along with emptywheel, swopa, Trex and Pach, deserve the thanks of a grateful nation.
Good on ya and Bravo Zulu to you all!
Now, let’s get Cheney.
Jane, YOU are a hero.
______________-
EPUed and embellished with more goodies:
Howard Dean on MSNBC right now:
says it’s a sad day, as it shows that this admin has done whatever they wanted for political reasons. Compares this admin to the Nixon admin.
Overall, comes off very polite. Also, turns the discussion with Norah O’Donnell toward how “we need to get out of Iraq”.
O’Donnell brings it back to Libby, and Dean says that more about this story needs to be uncovered. “The issue is that the VP, according to testimony in this trial, circled articles & made comments about how to get Wilson. What if the Vice President were instead worried about what was happening at Walter Reed and other (military) hospitals? He didn’t give a damn what was happening at Walter Reed.
It makes me sick, and it makes the American people sick.
“We need an administration that stops caring about politics and starts caring more about the American people.”
PREACH IT, HOWARD!
Jane on WNYC!!!!
Brooke Gladstone and Brian Lehrer did brief special coverage at about 1 pm, and they were all over Judith Miller and the cosy relationship between Washington politicians and the MSM. LOL>
I feel like we have finally turned the corner on our national nightmare, but we still have a lot of work to do. Was that secret v. secret sealed indictment thing just a rumor or a joke?
vachon, but, but, the juror didn’t allow for a commercial break.
Present at the creation of a new media paradigm, etc.
Thanks, FDL — you all rock.
There also is a podcast of Fair Game. I subscribe, so I’ll be able to listen on my ipod.
http://www.publicbroadcasting……astId=2743
Joe Buck – you are right. Mark Steyn is already whining about how prejudice the jury was on the Corner – but how could you watch him and not get the sense that they tried to keep politics out of it and were sympathetic to Libby. God, black is still white to these people.
Jane Hamsher said
Yes…wasn’t Hannah a DEFENSE WITNESS! That backfired it seems! Rather than believing that Libby had a bad memory…it went the other way…especially after Fitz pointed out that Plame wasn’t a “person”…she was merely another Not-For-Attribution “Talking Point” in defaming Joe Wilson.
People rise to the seriousness of the occasion when they serve on juries. It is often a wonderful thing to see. I’ve written some experiences about this here and here. It is really surprising how well we do when put to that citizenship test.
Justice was done today. One more thing that makes me hopeful for the country.
Fitz & crew deserve their accolades. When I think about him, I always remember “you can’t stop a man who thinks he’s right and keeps coming.”
Here at the ‘lake, that is you, Jane. You have been thru incredible personal ordeals, and you got up off the mat and back into the fight. You are formidable.
You have my total respect and gratitude.
And many thanks to Jane’s crew – we would all be the poorer without your work.
When we hit the watering hole this evening, let’s all raise one for:
The country!
Fitz & crew!
Jane & crew!
*BFG*
Thank you everyone at FDL.
Simply, thank you.
He did say that Hannah’s testimony totally screwed Libby, and I got a chuckle out of that.
NICE scoop! ; )
The comment that there was only one holdout on Count 3 is wrong. The jurors delivered a not guilty verdict on Count 3 which requires unanimity. If there was just one holdout, then it would have been a hung jury on Count 3.
Thanks to everyone for all your support. For everyone who hit that PayPal button that created Marcy’s book and brought us all to DC — you did this, we cannot express how much gratitude we all have for being able to be here.
Champagne tonight :) We’ll toast FDL for sure.
Thank YOU Jane…
and Marcy,
and Christy,
et. al.
WOW!
When all the dust has settled it might make for interesting reading to interview the other jurors to get a sense of what they were thinking. Certainly, Denis Collins, who is a professional journalist, has interesting insights but it sounds as though some of the other jurors had substantial management skills that they brought to bear during deliberations. It would be interesting to piece together their various accounts sort of as a coda to the trial. Just food for thought.
Great job, everyone associated with FDL!
With Team Firedoglake plus Team Fitzgerald, the lies Libby told did not have a chance to survive any reasonable jury.
Now, how soon will it be before Fitz is cut loose?
thank you all
jane please go take care of yourself now. I hope what you witnessed today is the beginning for good things for you.
You guys are the best in the biz. You should win the Pullet Surprise for your liveblogging!
So, Marcy:
What’s the next hurrah?
Attorney firings? Walter Reed? Signing statements? And so much more…
Seems like there’s a lot to choose from.
CSPAN 2 will run with the events of the courthouse after Cluster finishes at the American Legion thingy on his experience in “Time of War.’ Wells, Fitz, Juror Collins, presidential reaction and just maybe a call-in. SOON !!
Sad that our government would actually conspire against its own people
And glad because we can still achieve justice despite the odds
Marcy, Jane, Cristy, Pach, Trex, all of you. Love you all! You’re an inspiration.
Long-time lurker here who just wanted to say thanks from the bottom of my heart to everyone at firedoglake for your coverage of the Libby trial. You have been simply awesome. There aren’t adequate words to thank you for all the sacrifices you’ve made and your extraordinary hard work to keep us informed of the entire Plame Leak investigation and Libby trial. So, I’ll just end by saying (rather inadequately) thanks a million.
The Dino costume worked!!
Yay, stegosaurus!
just so HoJo won’t feel left out:
my contempt for Joe Lieberman endures through events such as this.
THANK YOU!
Jane, Christie, Marcy, Trex, Pach and the rest of the FDL truthseekers…. A BIG thank-you for all your hard work. Its been a long time coming…and worth the wait.
JUSTICE RESTORED!
TRUE AMERICAN’S HAVE SPOKEN.
THIS ADMINISTRATION IS A SAD ATTEMPT AT HONESTY, TRUTH AND JUSTICE.
The first dominoe has fallen in the game the Bush Reich is playing on American citizens.
Thank you everyone at FDL! I’ve been following this trial from the beginning and your coverage has been AWESOME!
Merry Fitzmas everyone…Sweet Justice! Now I believe we all need to contact our Senators, House Reps, media and demand investigations! This is just the little tip of the iceberg and we all know that!
Marcy’s posts about Judy Miller (at Next Hurrah) were my first introduction to the blogosphere.
Ya Know, I really feel something historic is goin’ on here- something akin to a great movement, like the french Enlightenmnet or the American push for independence.
I don’t know for sure where FDL and the progressive blogosphere is taking us next, but I want to heartfully thank you all, and to I feel truly honored to be a part of this.
Question for Jane @29– I’m begging, begging, begging for you to answer it. Thank you for all of your amazing and patriotic work on this case.
Call your congress critters and tell them you want more done. Go to http://www.senate.gov/ and find your senator. Write, phone, email, whattever you can. Let them know you want this case active.
Dick Pierce 63 — It would be political suicide to go after Fitz now. He’s too high profile.
That is, if these folks cared about political suicide. Even when they are politically dead they are still able to loot and plunder.
It was fascinating listening to the juror, Mr. Collins. I was really impressed with his willingness to talk to the press and to share all that he reasonably could about the trial and the jury deliberation as well as his own feelings.
The jury – if Mr. Collins is anything to go by – did not take pleasure in their task and understood that real responsibility for all the lying lies elsewhere. It is now up to American public opinion to indict and condemn a man who has been shown to have few if any scruples; I am, of course, referring to the Vice President of the United States. The jurors did their job can American journalists, representatives and the general public do what they need to do to begin to sweep the stables clean?
what punaise spreads…
Happy dance time!

What Jane said at 59. Thanks so much to all of you. Every last one.
OMG. This article by Andrew Cohen at WaPo is a must read!
is there a reason my quote button isn’t showing up?
Jane says “Thank you all!”
We say Thank you all!
thanks *ilbo@66
I’m posting rush TRANSCRIPTS OF THE LIBBY JUROR’S
statements over at http://broadcatching.wordpress.com
Last Presidential pardon? Clinton’s pardon of Mark Rich. Rich’s lawyer? Irving “Scooter” Libby.
Jane, I think that you’ve started something here that will turn out to be much bigger than the trial you’ve covered. I think this may be the birth of a new, narrowly focused, but widely aimed, media.
There’s plenty going on over at TPM as well wrt the case of the Gonzalez Seven.
We’re seeing, in real time, the maturation of web-based journalism.
thank you jane. thank you for putting together the whole libby shoe here. my wish for you is that you:
… dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free,
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands…
Jane, we are here to thank ONLY because of your hard work and inspiration.
you guys are the greatest. Thank you so much for your perseverance and dedication to this.
True patriots – I am overwhelmed
Mega thanks to all here at FDL for keeping the lights on for all of us.
TV Newser :
Libby: Joe Wilson On Countdown, Larry King Live, 360 Tonight
Updated: 1:32pm: Keith Olbermann has an interview with Joseph Wilson tonight on Countdown. The interview will air at the top of the program.
Wilson is also booked on Larry King Live and Anderson Cooper 360…

fyi: “quote” and “edit” comment buttons probably disabled to lighten server load
Lucky Bush is into his second term. Scooter’s attorneys can keep Mr Smooth ‘n’ Forgetful out of jail until shortly before the Emperor pulls a Marc Rich and pardons him as he turns out the White House lights, thus crowning the worst two-term presidency in American history.
Christy, you are going to have to bronze Peanut’s dino costume!
perris at 86 — Yes — our servers are swamped. We disabled the Quote and the Edit buttons at the beginning of the morning today, and they’ll likely continue to be off for a while. Sorry.
Thanks Jane, Christy, TRex, Pach, Emptywheel and everybody else at FDL for the amazing coverage of the Libby Trial – not to mention the whole Plamegate affair! Putting the MSM to shame.
From mediabistro:
Anderson Cooper…Aagh! Oh well.
perris @ 85: “is there a reason my quote button isn’t showing up?”
To reduce the server load. They are getting hammered.
I actually dissed the Collins Juror b/c of his Bob Woodward connection. My Bust. If it weren’t for him, we would still be in the dark. Look forward to seeing him on Hardball tonite.
Just hope Chris can curtail hisself and give the guy a chance to speak
Hey, I’d forgotten Libby was one of Rich’s shysters! He’ll be able to advise the Chimp on his own release.
But they haven’t disable the DONATE BUTTON! So get up there, they will need to celerbrate tonight!!!!
John Tully- bless you. I missed the last response by Collins thanks to the blathering talking heads of the MSM.
I’m all choked up reading these comments.
FOX talking points seem to be that no crime was committed. Fitzpatrick was un supervised and would have been pulled in if only Ascroft had some balls and kept the investigation “in house.” That the White House can not comment on an on-going legal matter as Libby has asked for a new trial other than to say the president respects the jury’s decision and is sad for Scooter. They had Knovac on spouting his crap that VAlerie Plame was not covert. And, finally, that this is in no way has anything to do with the VP trying to cover-up bad information taking us to war in Iraq.
SO MUCH BS I HAD TO TURN I HAD TO TURN IT OFF AND CONSCENTRATE ON WHAT WE HAVE TO DO TO GET RID OF THESE PEOPLE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!! WE DON”T NEED PROOF TO IMPEACH. WE NEED A majority TO IMPEACH AND a 2/3s majority TO CONVICTT!! IN NIXON”S CASE IT JUST TOOK the leadership TO TELL HIM TO RESIGN!!!!

Jane is on Air America
Wonderful Jane!!
From Think Progress:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) calls on President Bush to pledge not to pardon Libby:
I welcome the jury’s verdict. It’s about time someone in the Bush Administration has been held accountable for the campaign to manipulate intelligence and discredit war critics. Lewis Libby has been convicted of perjury, but his trial revealed deeper truths about Vice President Cheney’s role in this sordid affair. Now President Bush must pledge not to pardon Libby for his criminal conduct.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) says the problem is not just Libby.
Today’s guilty verdicts are not solely about the acts of one individual. This trial provided a troubling picture of the inner workings of the Bush Administration. The testimony unmistakably revealed — at the highest levels of the Bush Administration — a callous disregard in handling sensitive national security information and a disposition to smear critics of the war in Iraq.
So it was the reporter who crossed his 7s. I wonder if he picked it up in High School trying to be cool like me!
Thanks to all for the hard work. We will make sure it pays off.
Hope the FDLers cover the Aipac/Rosen/Franklin trial in June. The MSM will more than likely go blank on this trial.
What was you verdict outfit Jane? Or was the plan not to announce it, and force the hand of fate?
I live in a new world wherein I can see through the eyes of fair witnesses. Thank you so much (all) for your dedication.
This moment is seminal to shedding light on truth that has been hoarded by evil-doers.
Watch how they go after control of the internet, trying to put a finger in the dike.
Thank you thank you for all your hard work, to bring this trial to those of us in far flung places.
And – ain’t the jury system grand??? Thank you to the jury for doing their job and giving justice back.
big hugs to Jane, Marcy and Christy.
spaciba bolshoi!
sleep the sleep of the just tonight.
take a few days off, then let us know
what needs to happen next.
impeachment bill from the new mexico legislature anyone?
Actually I like reading FDL comments without the quote function.
And THANK YOU SO MUCH Jane and Christy and everybody. I’m old enough to remember being fascinated with Watergate and Iran-Contra, but this was so much better due to your work.
Hope you guys are lighting up the phones. Congress should be swamped with this affair. This is treason. This is treason. This is treason. I’d use blinky HTML if I could!
Get the case active. We need to go after Rove and the Vice President. We need to find out if Bush had anything to do with this, or if VP did this on his own behalf.
Sealed vs. Sealed technical question…
If Fitz is, in fact, sitting on a Sealed vs. Sealed indictment, has it technically been filed?
I’m just not sure what stage constitutes filing. My guess is that this indictment is not filed, but if it has been filed as Sealed vs. Sealed, then “no more indictments to be filed” doesn’t rule this out.
Thanks in advance for any clarification! You are the best, all of you!
Thank you, FDL team. It can’t be said enough. I’m watching Fox News, alternately screaming at them and laughing. Blaming Liberal Bloggers. Take a bow!
Heh, Rich Lowry on Faux News says it’s all the fault of the paranoid theories of liberal bloggers.
Hi Rich! Tell Byron he’s got a lovely do.
My heartfelt “thank you” to Jane, Christy, Marcy, Pach, Swopa, TRex and the rest of Team Plame for all for your vision, honesty, wisdom, and tenacity. This has been a long journey. You are the trailblazers. We are forever in your debt.
Well FDL has made some history.
I look forward to Yearly Kos where we can talk about all of this at length.
Are we having breakfast again?
Right on! Fantastic news!
bold is stuck on starting with comment 119.
Primordial Ooze @120: Sealed v. Sealed may not have anything to do with this case, Libby, Cheney, Rove, or anything else related. It just happens to be a case Judge Walton is hearing.
thanks you FDL, thanks you 11 jurors, thank you Fitz, even though I missed it
HOpe the FDL team covers the Aipac/Rosen/Franklin trial in June
Bob “groupthink” Woodward “the Libby trial is much to do about nothing”. Victoria Toensing, Byron York eat your words.
Okay, so I’m getting ready to write to my elected officials and I’m kind of not sure what to write…
I was going to say something to the effect of:
With the jury just in on the Libby case and finding him guilty on 4 of the 5 counts, I implore you to investigate…
that’s where I get stuck.
Please help?
Thanks!
Some of the Freepers have already threatened to dig up dirt on him, and are wondering if he’s one of the Gays.
Dino costumes for everyone, please.
What a nice counterpoint FDL has been to the nonsense from the likes of Howie Kurtz about ‘uncivil bloggers’.
You rock!
Wil – now we have our fingers crossed that you can start that new job you interviewed for. The jury gave us the verdict, so you don’t have to stonewall the new boss for a delayed start date! :)
(to my earlier comment: bold was fixed by admins if you refresh).
Another good day for our side and for the democracy. Thanks to FDL and all those “liberal bloggers” who Fox blames for everything. This will go down as another profile in courage moment for this nation.
Thank you for helping to keep this in the headlines. Thank you for being patriots. Thank you for helping the truth be known.
Thank you Joe and Valerie for your courage to go forward with your civil case.
Abuse of power should never be tolerated. Our democracy will not survive if we tolerate abuses like this Bush Administration has committed.
So when do we start calling on Congress to further investigate these charges? I say there is no time like the present.
Jeralyn Merritt chatz at WaPo today at 2pm Eastern.
From the day of vior dire, we all had Collins pegged to write a book about the trial. I remember his questioning vividly. He was grilled a long time.
Looking at the expression of Libby on the NY times site. I wonder if he’s a hero at the White House.
Going to be rewarded tonight.
thanks LOTF, and my new f will be happy I can stop blowig him off until after 3:00pm everyday
Drudge links to good article on the case

seems like it gets most of it right. THANK YOU TIM RUSSERT!:) Never though I’d say that.
Interesting tidbit–During the period of time Marc Rich was working out his pardon, his lawyer was Scooter Libby, according to MSNBC.
pseudonimous at #123:
now don’t you go talking about marcel that way! somebody might call him a fa_got or something….
that would be bf
(what happened to the reply to comment buttons)
Meanwhile, let’s not forget this broken record:
A big headache for two more years. And Darth? Enuf said.
I am going to miss my FDL friends and constant companions very much. I thank Jane and Marcy and Swopa and Christy and the Politics TV videos w/ Jane, and Marcy and Jerilyn. FDL’s coverage of this trial has set a new standard in journalism and ushered in the wave of the future, the wave of the future, the wave……..(did you see “The Aviator”?)Anyway, you are all great and such lovely people. And especially a wish for good health for Jane.
I saw Juror Collins’ press conference on the MSNBC website (live I think), but I imagine it can still be accessed there. Impressive! And thanks FDL – all.
kirk murphy says:
March 6th, 2007 at 10:35 am
“Team Fitz!
Thanks to Jane Christy Marcy Pach Swopa Trex and all of Team Plame!
Blessings and gratitude for defending our Republic and Constitution.”
I’ll second that. Many, many thanks.
I’ll just note that Chris Matthews was looking very somber and going on about how he was leaned on by the White House whenever he questioned their line. Is this the rats deserting the sinking ship and will more such revelations be forthcoming, especially now that the US attorneys are relating the phone calls they have received.
Some guy on Faux gave you all good props for your coverage, and said the bloggers led the way on this one, that the MSM fell down on the jobe.
Mad, Mad, Mad Props to the Pups!
Chris Matthews interviewing the Wilson’s lawyer — they are very gratified by the verdict.
I just knew it; I knew the White House would have no comment because the verdict will be appealed. Plus, you know, they’re a “forward moving” group, “moving forward,” not looking back, “moving forward.”
Put a bottle of champagne in the fridge before the elections but since my best friend neighbor went out of the country unexpectedly, there it has languished. We’re popping the cork tonite at 8 when KO interviews Amb. Wilson. Wish we could pass a 1000 bottles around the Lake; guess the beer/liquor industry will have an extra good day even without our assistance. *g*.
To all the people in front of and behind the scenes at FDL, you guys are simply the BEST!
The FDLers should turn their spotlight on the upcoming Aipac/Rosen/Franklin Trial. The cast of characters overlaps a bit. Coming up in June.
MSNBC updates:
Norah O’Donnell keeps repeating that “Libby is referred to as ‘Cheney’s Cheney’.”
Obama and others giving press statements.
Tweety back on MSNBC now, saying this is an incredibly important trial, “like the Alger Hiss trial.” He says, “Scooter’s not convicted of robbing a gas station – he is convicted of lying under oath about” his helping VP Cheney to cook the information leading up to the war. Tweety repeats the “cloud” statement of Fitz. He says, “Vice President Cheney could resign (due to this), although I don’t think he’s the type of guy to resign”.
Matthews also says, “this shows there are real questions about how we got into this war.” He sounds like he sees the verdict as a reason to press FURTHER for answers. “This is only the beginning of getting answer not just about Wilson & Plame, but about this war.”
They are now discussing the conspiracy (VP, possibly to the President) with Melody Sloan. She has talked to Wilson & Plame, and she says they’re very pleased and ready to move forward in the civil case.
It’s sometimes hard to remember these are real people, real lives that were damaged by Libby & Cheney’s actions. To Ms. Plame and Mr. Wilson, I hope you do feel like a large burden has been lifted from your shoulders.
Dear Jane, Christy, Pach, Trex, Marcy, Siun, Scarecrow, LHP, Peterr, Phoenix Woman, all the other guests, and tireless invisible moderators,
Thank you so much. You’re all wonderful, true patriots, my heroes.
Now, go get some rest – not all at once though.
Toobin did mention 41 pardoned Iran/Contra thugs which Toobin then followed by emphasizing Clinton’s many questionable pardons specifying only Mark Rich. Rich is the only one I remember as being controversial. Toobin was so incensed with Martha Stewart allegedly lying yet never seemed to have anywhere near the same outrage for Libby’s indictment.
The thanks of a grateful reader to all the FDL freedomfighters for such phenomenal coverage of this historymaking event!
Thanks, too, to the Washington, DC (”Taxation without Representation”) jurors for using the integrity and common sense God gave them to speak justice to power.
Still more thanks to the Jesuits for educating Patrick Fitzgerald!
And last but not least, cead mile thanks and cead mile pints to the man himself, Patrick Fitzgerald, Esq., and all the rest of the Prosecution, defenders of our glorious Constitution all!
My name is crazy horse. i am an FDL liveblogging addict. i recognize that i don’t have any control over my addiction. i am searching for a higher power to give me power over my addiction. normally i would ask the esteemed egregious to establish a support group, for i’ll bet i’m not alone.
but i have found that higher power, named Justice!
kudos again to all. have a fine bier thirty, Marcy, you can celebrate years of focus. you all have brought me back into the fight against this spreading mordor i abandoned before.
Two seperate editions of Hardball tonight, all about this case
I think we should start an online support group for us liveblog junkies. Kind of like the open threads.
I can’t believe I blew off a job interview yesterday over the note.
referencing richard @57:
Can someone clear up the details of the verdict about Count 3? I was just re-watching Denis Collins’s statements and when he was asked about “the acquittal” and whether it was just one holdout, he said no, and I’m assuming they did at least some kind of informal vote on it because he definitely says they voted “9-2″ (which I can only assume he means 9 presumed guilt). Does this imply that when they reached the final verdict, the reservations of the 2 swung the other 9, based on the particularity of the Cooper count? I’m not a legal pro; just curious what happened and if we know. (I may be behind in the thread, too)
jayakroyd at 90. Gonzales must be the next focus.
Well damn. Now I want Fitz to father my baby and I’m not even female !
JML – I want Darth Cheney
To all of the FDL gang – THANKS for an historic effort.
It will change the way that public dialogue is conducted in our Nation!!
Thank you guys very much. It’s been a hell of a ride.
keith is gonna be on fire, his contempt for those that exposed our covert assets are going to be brutal
I can’t watch him and surely hope the youtube gods keep their vigil in this regard
Fresh Marcy thread, in case you all missed it.
Yes, Scooter convinced Clinton to pardon Rich. Which then pissed off David Geffen because Geffen wanted Clinton to pardon Geffen’s friend Leonard Peltier. Geffen’s friendship with Clinton soured because of this. Geffen then dumps on Hillary. What goes around comes around in Washington, New York, and Los Angeles.
ok guys, this is FAR from over…we have GOT to get pressure to put the vice president under investigation
we have GOT to FORCE them to discontinue the effort, we’ve got to make them play their fascist hand
we have got to do more then convict irving, we need to get this done before more damage is done by these fascist morons
FeralHarley that was really funny
I got choked up watching Fitz’ press conference, and choked up again reading everything here. A heartfelt thank you, to all who serve this country so well. To Fitz, and his hard working team, to the jurors, to Judge Walton and his clerk who stayed on. And to Jane and Christy and Marcy and Pach and all the crew of FDL who have provided unparalleled service to this country.
Firedoglake filled the horrific void created by MSM capitulation to power. When I think of the dark days of 2004, when it became clear that even our elections were controlled by outright THUGGERY, what was most awful was the fact that no one was reporting it. Nothing to see here folks. Only Keith Olbermann gave the election theft any air time. And he was ridiculed for it. I was filled with rage and despair.
But where there was darkness and silence, Jane and Christy have shined a BIG ASS SPOTLIGHT. Thank you so much for what you have done.
Congratulations, everyone.
There is simply no way to overstate the importance of what the Firedoglake crew have done in fully covering “this nutty little trial that nobody cares about.”
Same for Marcy’s book.
The fight is not over. Bush and Cheney remain unrepentent and indefatigable enemies of the American ideal.
It’s interesting. I just lost my job, last Thursday (got RIF’d — one day’s notice — owing to Medicare funding cutbacks, ‘cuz GW Napolean has BK’d the govt)). I’ve been Google-searching myself, and I find I’m turning up in FDL posts (along with my numerous irascible letters to the editors). Probably gonna have a harder time getting a new gig, in light of corporate political prissiness and dim views of the non straight-laced.
Fuck it. I don’t want my kids and grandson living in a Fourth Reich.
GUILTY! Yeah!!
.
thanks for the post jane, i was hoping the jury was approaching it and digging through it in a manner that is above reproach…….
hoping the repugs and the dems everywhere will remember, truth is not partisan, we need more of it expressed and displayed every day….
and to say again, my bumper sticker which i found in wva says:
when you tell the truth you don’t have to remember what you said
Dear Jane, Marcy, Christy, Pach, Swapo, TRex, (not forgetting egrarious, punaise, Rayne, Peterr, et al), the Mods and the Techies.
As an “auslander” what I have found at FDL is a real community in the best sense of the word. You are caring, helpful, dedicated and above all determined to bring light into a dark world.
What you have achieved over the months leading up to and including this trial will set new standards for fair and honest reporting.
My best wishes go to you all especially Jane that you recover completely, Marcy that you finally get a good nights sleep and I look forward to pulling up a chair with Christy at the weekend.
Thank you.
and thanks to all who relay the tv stuff, i only get pbs here and am on dial-up so can’t stream anything…….when i had cable, i was a political news junkie…….so thanks for your daily reports……..
greatly appreciate the fresh accurate credible info from the Plamegate trial. just watched cnn (fox-lite), and faux news and my they are spinning the verdict and the story.
without the likes of fdl, we’d have been largely in the dark.
what do you guys think the fallout will be b/c of the GUILTY verdict?
From “Media Matters”:
Libby’s guilty verdict: Media myths and falsehoods to watch for

Read every engaging word about trial, never commented. Feel like FDL and those who did comment and analyze are friends. Thank you for a terrific ride.
Critical for Firedoglake to continue to do their important work. Send money. We can not rely on the MSM No NO NO
Woodhall Hollow @ 83:
This also from Cohen’s piece in the WaPo:
Actually, he didn’t bust up the First Amendment to get to them, Andrew, but otherwise, bravo.
“It appears there was only one holdout on Count Three that kept Libby from a 5 count grand slam.”
Gota claim this one, along with others, some of us picked this very result based on the nature of the jury question-and-answer pattern.
“4 out of 5 with a lone holdout on the Cooper question”.. that is verbatim from a few days ago…
Jane – words cannot express how grateful I am to you, Christy, Marcy, Pach and everyone else who was involved in this coverage. Just outstanding, exceptional, groundbreaking.
Now – please go take care of yourself! We need you strong and healthy for our next battle against the forces of darkness.
to-do list in the off chance that our office pool wins the $.375B CA mega-lotto tonight:
1. fully fund the Wilsons’ civil suit fund
2. create a massive FDL endowment (if desired :~)
3. champagne all around
Will you live-blog the civil suit proceedings?
Oh – and by the way. I hope FDL is considering compiling the amazing “essays” written throughout the trial by the various front pagers (and some of the more thoughtful, astute and humorous comments). I would most definitely buy a copy – as would many others, I dare to venture.
turns out there is a not so new thread upstairs…
I wonder if the deal will come after the retrial is rejected and after the appeals are done?
Jane, I’ll miss seeing you on Political TV. Christy, Swopa and Marcy, too.
Now is the time to get busy, purging the enablers like Ellen Tauscher and Barbara Boxer, Joe Biden, Charles Schumer, Hillary Clinton and many more.
Let’s get busy.
Dear Jane et al: thanks so much for your brilliant coverage of this trial.
Jane, the best book i know on creative visualization and meditation
for cancer patients is “Getting Well Again” by Carl Simonton.
Please get it because it will help you so much.
Again, thanks for your selfless dedication to bringing out the truth.
Heroes indeed. Since gaining some life support in November, our fragile democracy has gradually sat up, opened eyes, carried on conversation with visitors, and made brief forays down the hallway. And now it takes a giant stride away from the abyss. I’m a 60-year old guy with a pretty tough skin and hard head, but chills and tears are overwhelming me today.
Thanks for your incredible hard work and careful attention to detail. I have been absorbed in this with you all from the beginning and quickly realized how special this WWW site is. I am an historian by training and techer by trade and I love the precision and analytical rigor that you have brought to this complex and fascinating story.
THANKS! Bravo!
good thinking…
coming soon to computers near you…

Watching MSNBC. Soon as questioning of juror turns to his “fall guy” comment, MSNBC takes away camera. Time for live-video to go with the live-blogging.”
Thank you, Jane.
Fitz!
Thanks for an incredible effort in support of our democracy. I find myself kind of wishing you folks had been around for the Sirica trials in 1973, too. In several ways, this trial was just as important.
Party down at Plame House, then get some sleep!
Thank you, thank you, Jane, Marcy, Swopa, Pachacutec, and Christy — this has been a wonderful experience following your work.
Only wish I hadn’t been at work when the verdict came – peeked over at FDL, couldn’t get through — that’s when I knew the verdict was in, and went to Atrios then Kos.
What great news. Now what’s next.
Oh, nd at lunch, in our break room CNN plays – when they did a brief report on the verdict, everyone made the screen EXCEPT Fitzgerald. What’s up with that?
too much noise from lunchers to hear much, so just watched. And the White House “ongoing appeals, so no comment.”
Back to work.
Thanks again, and a donation coming soon.
Thank you so much, Jane…and Christy, Marcy, and all the others. You have kept us going in an otherwise seemingly hopeless period being forced to live with this criminal administration watching crime after crime taking place. Outstanding work! Your hard work and commitment mirrored Patrick Fitzgerald’s own. Again, quite amazing.
You and Firedoglake are now an important part of history. You can be SO proud! A heartfelt THANK YOU!!!
Thank you, Jane.
“Alinsky’s conclusion that the ‘ventilation’ of hostilities is healthy in certain situations is valid, but across-the-board ‘social catharsis’ cannot be prescribed.”
~Hillary Rodham Clinton (1969)
Jane, you’re entitled to ventilate.
Thank you all who covered this trial for those of us who were interested in it. The MSM is now failing us as a nation and as a society. Of that I am convinced beyond a reasonable doubt. Thank Providence there are Americans still around willing to take up the slack.
I know this is EPU’ed here at the bottom of an old thread, but thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
My heart was pounding waiting for the verdict. I thought of all you firedoglakers and your total commitment to justice and for what the verdict would mean to our country. How sweet it is !!!
I know it has to be satisfying to see justice prevail, but you omitted your comment at the end of your near identical post at Huffington Post. Who is going to keep Bush from pardoning Libby?
G W Bush has ignored the will of the people since November 2006. Lets be honest in that there are two ways to stop a pardon. One would be to find that Bush stole Ohio in 2004. If true, he would not be “the Decider” and would have no pardon power since January 2005. The other way is mean and ugly and may get me arrested. There is too much money and power behind GWB. We can only hope that an International Court will bring him and the other criminals to justice for their actions. Otherwise, it will be God’s responsibility to punish Mr. Bush and we know that will happen.
Great work and I hope you continue to recover from your illness.
Thank you to all for going beyond the call of duty.
Your passion is showing and that’s good.
Your posts answered all the questions, some I hadn’t even thought of.
Best of all regards.
I know this is sooo EPU, but I was not here all day, had to catch the news from NPR at noon, stopped screaming so as not to be alarming the people in the vicinity. . .WOO HOO!!
Thank you to everyone who did the heavy lifting of the boats on the lake all this time. Jane, Christy, Marcy, Pach, Swopa, TRex, eriposte, and all the rest, plus teh spouses and children–music (spin I’m in), laughter, and tears all the way. FDL is a treasure.
Thank you again.
Congratulations, Jane. And all the other FDL’ers. Your excellent and dogged reporting since this first broke has changed the news cycles in the USA and provided people who couldn’t otherwise keep abreast of this case with accurate info.
Thanks and may you forever follow your Blitz.
The most mind-blowing fact about this case is that right-wingers are such cro-magnon he-men that they believed that Joe Wilson would be embarassed if the public was misled to believe that his WIFE gave HIM a job.
Oh, grab the fainting chair, a MAN was helped in his career by a WOMAN. GASP!!
