Hey, Jane is on Rachel Maddow. Not sure how to stream it, but tell us in the comments.
Egregious and I are sitting here in Plame House drinking Looseheadprops' wine. Thanks LHP!!! I hope it doesn't ruin my interview tomorrow morning.
We're watching Chris Matthews, who seems to have the appropriate level of seriousness about a top Administration official getting busted for obstructing an investigation. Jane, meanwhile, is telling the media how good it is to be an American today.
I'll turn over to Egregious, who has a lot more than I do left…
Egregious here. Eeeeeeeeek!!! Excuse me. I think we are beginning to reach a lot of people on the right. My pilates teacher is very conservative, her husband is a high level officer in the Middle East, so I was a little wary of sharing The News with her. But my cheese eating grin was giving me away, I had to say something. So I said, that trial I missed a lesson for? We won. Pause for her conservative reaction… "HE LIED TO THE FBI." Ooooh, good start. "HE LIED TO THE GRAND JURY." Ok, not gonna be a problem here. I requested permission to laugh out loud randomly thruout the lesson.
And I think about the effect of this trial, and this verdict [OH YEAH, WOO HOO, OH YEAH] excuse me where was I. Ahem. The effect of the trial on young people. One young person in our family was wavering between Republican and Democrat until recently, and now is like DUH of course Democrat, how could anyone want to be affiliated with the Republicans. How many million other such young people have been swayed by this trial?
Hey LHP your wine is outstanding. You rock. We are SO up for Joe Wilson being on Olbermann.
Emptywheel back. Shrum is on. Jeez. He looks bad. Jane, in a towel, says, "oh good put him on. What are they thinking?"
Well, thanks to LHP. We're enjoying your hospitality. Miss you, though.
$$$ to the first pundit who says, which is more important, Bill Clinton's blow job, or the CIA's NOCs?

Marcy!
FITZ!
I don’t mean to be too flippant, but one of my old favorite dance songs keeps going through my head: Guilty, by Lime. Great song, lame video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCqP1s9qkzs
I know it’s a great day and all, but, um…. what kind of party are you folks having over there?!?
Wow, two zeds in one day.
Dunno, Swopa, but Jane just told me she won’t sleep with me.
Noted without comment.
Enjoy! You’ve earned it, and all our thanks, besides. You’re all such an inspiration.
If ever one needed proof that the MSM is a corporate-owned right-wing propaganda machine, it’s the fact that this news, and its implications regarding the unlawful behavior of the White House, are being soft-peddled.
While the MSM is totally “pwned” as the kids say, what is the one channel of information that provides actual news? This blog, and others like it!
How cold was it there today and how did Fitzgerald give that long statement without a coat?
EPU’d:
Marcy . . .
Who is that idiot on Hardball who is lamenting the injustice of poor, honest Scooter Libby’s conviction? What a BONEHEAD! I’m in another room on the keyboard and didn’t make it to the TV in time to catch the name.
RE: “FitzFong”
pseudonymous @ #66 in the previous post wrote (and asked):
i think i’ve figured it out:
Fitzgerald PLUS Michael Nifong.
Nifong is the Durham County DA who went after the DUKE LACROSSE TEAM.
ergo,
Fitzfong.
Marcy,
You ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Marcy is teh beautiful.
YAY Marcy~
Trying to describe how I feel…
Proud!
Way to go gang, this is the best day I’ve had since November 7th, and maybe better.
We’re all in towels!
Any “meet up” tonight in DC? Or can you at last disclose the location of Plame House so we can all descend upon it?
The recipe for the drink I invented just for today.
The best part is I just bought two brand new pillows and cases.
Fitzgeralds Hammer of Justice
1 shot 151 rum
1 shot Grenadine
1 shot Crown Royal (you can substitute John Jameson’s Irish whiskey for the Crown Royal — he’s fighting against the monarchy after all.)
orange juice to taste served over crushed ice with a pillow on the side.
When you are good and hammered, use the pillow.
the idiot who was on Hardball, was Rethug operative ED ROGERS.
Toga! Toga! Toga!
Shuster up on MSNBC
bet the freeper blogsters don’t have this much fun….
“Wow, two zeds in one day.”
Ah, but I got the verdict watch gold, grasshopper LOL ; )
Man that guy was off his meds! (ER)
“Scooter Libby is a GOOD man, Scooter Libby would NEVER lie to an officer of the government!”
NPR just had a former employee of Scooter Libby to explain it all. Gosh, he doesn’t know why Scooter would lie but if he did it was to protect his boss. Otherwise he can’t understand why charges were brought against such a fine upstanding guy and there was not real crime anyway.
None of this was challenged. Thanks NPR for showing us how stenography is done, but personally you do such a good job of it day in day out that I could actually use fewer such examples, just saying.
UGH! Victoria Toensing is on The NewsHour talking about the trial.
Sorry…I’m still depressed at Fitz’ statement that no further indictments were forthcoming and that he was going back to his day job (that is, if he doesn’t go the way of the recently fired federal prosecutors for getting too close to the scam artists in the WH).
Kudos to all here @ FDL, though. Your coverage has been wonderful! >>
Marcy,
I bought the book last week — I’ve mostly been lurking here, but this Buckeye wants to say, “Go Blue!” to you and “Thanks” to everyone at FDL.
(For other Buckeyes, I’m a Federal employee (close to retirement) and I live in Clintonville, attended OSU from 1973 to 1977, and I’m on the committee of a small Science Fiction convention.)
Ed Rogers on Tweety:
“Joe Wilson is the most discredited man in DC. He’s no patriot.”
Then yells at Bob Shrum when he says, “No, Scooter Libby is the most discredited in DC.” “Bob, how can you ignore the truth like this!?!”
So, what kind of dope is Rogers smoking? Because damn, it must be GOOD!
bmaz –
If you’re still here, here’s my EPU’d msg to you from the thread below:
bmaz –
Dear Firepup Friend! I hope you also got the message that I wasn’t trying to hurry you up.
You are such a thoughtful person! I look forward to hearing from you.
p.s. Just a quick question for you or any other legal type who might want to give a quick response:
We are supposedly getting our car back this Friday. It seems that we’ll probably need to pay for the rental car ourselves for now on our credit card. That doesn’t hurt us in whatever chance we have for getting the hundreds and hundreds of dollars reimbursed for this rental, does it? Like “possession is 9/10 of the law” — there isn’t some motto like “well, you PAID for it, suckers!” Is there?
Thanks in advance to you or anyone who can briefly calm my worry here.
Has anyone heard the NPR coverage on this. It has been terrible. 1) The report stated that the investigation was “closed” rather than inactive, 2) The one commentator they had on it was from “a conservative think tank” you can guess the content of the message.
Excellent! Another wonderful video summing up the Scooter Libby trail–this time talking about the verdict. Thank you so much March for all the time you spent on this. Justice has been served!
Steven Joseph
RE: Repub POV on a Bush Pardon….
i peeked over at LFG…
they we quite concerned saying that Bush should NOT pardon Libby….
because it would mess up the Rethug Presidential ‘08 chances.
Waited until after the verdict to break the news, huh?
Oh God Scarborough
Marcy-
I don’t normally like girls, but have fell in love with you over the past three weeks
Fitz cannot prosecute Cheney. Only Congress can.
dannygodeep,
Ah, but Fitz said he would hand over ALL of his material to Congress, if they asked for it.
CONGRESS, I WANT FITZ’S MATERIAL OUT IN THE OPEN!
Scarborough’s take on this — he says it’s a “travesty”.
Scarborough and Tucker are dissing Armitage. hahaha
We can agree that Scarborough needs to be posied. (a nursing home term)
Scarborough back to his old ways. what a crock of crap !!! shit for brains ! Don’t they follow any reliable sources ? How do they sleep at night?
wingnuts in full spin mode. willfully ignorant. Pach surely they are personality disordered or is it just plain delusional greed ?
Victoria Toensig is on PBS’s The NewsHour?
That’s it. PBS is dead to me.
OMG, now Joe Scarborough is on *ucker Carlson saying “What lie was proved?” “Since when do you believe a NYT reporter over Scooter Libby? This is a he-said, she-said.”
Ah, now Scarborough is saying that even before Fitz was appointed, the government knew that Armitage was the source of the Novak leak. So why was Fitz even appointed, when the not-crime was already solved?
Jeez. I guess Scarborough only takes his meds when he’s following KO’s show.
Scarborough showing his true colors.
can you remind us the details of the TV interview tomorrow?
and that bottle of wine:
a Jeroboam or a Melchizedek?
You are awesome Marcy!!! And you look maahvelous!!
Sorry I keep trying to post this comment but it’s always on the thread that’s already done, arghh. But I so need to say it so bear with me.
I just arrived home from the school where I worked today in total isolation from any news reports except for the instant my cell phone message light began blinking at the time the verdict was announced!
What an amazing moment in history!!! And now I have rushed home to read the blog! *not finished yet*
Thank you so much to Jane Marcy, Swopa, Christy, Pachacutec, xyz, TRex, LHP and anyone else at FDL I may be forgetting in my delirium at the moment. I had never been to a blog before this trial but pressing the pay button last week was the best most gratifying thing I have done for the First Ammendment in a very long time.
It has been an education that I credit also to the brilliant people who comment (and I can assure you I am not one of them) especially Rayne, Alex VA, Mason, EvilDrPurma, Teddysanfran, AZMatt, Helen, Ed*ardTellar, Suzanne and not but last but never least the amazing Litigatormom! Thank you and my cat thanks you!!!!!! GO TEAM FDL AND GO TEAM FITZ!! *opens champagne* and would love to share with all!!! Hugs!!!
NPR and Public Television has been corrupted by Bush and Rove’s political appointments.
I hate Ed Rogers, Matthews gives him a easy pass.
Jane on the Rachel Maddow Show on Air America Radio.
Wil @37…
Me too! Marcy’s a babe!!!
EPUd from last thread:
LHP@94 – I agree. If I didn’t know the reputation of Wells from following the Espy and Torricelli cases pretty closely, I would wonder about incompetent representation of Libby. I will be honest, if this is what Wells had in mind, why did he put on any defense witnesses? If this performance was any kind of plan, I would have put on no one and BSd the jury that it was further evidence that the prosecution failed to meet their burden. I would also have a countersigned letter to Libby in my file explaining that I was not responsible for the feeble defense.
Litigator Mom@103 – Well if the fleeting language you referenced is a materiality defense, it is the most pathetically lame one I have ever seen. You have to be specific and detailed in making a materiality defense or it will go right through the juror’s ears. It really is a form of affirmative defense and should be plead with specificity.
pwrlght @ 9
Because he’s a damn superhero!
Memo to Scarborough: Trial’s over babe.
Now *ucker and Scarbrat are talking about “selective prosecution,” “nobody had a consistent story” and yet poor Scoots is facing 20 years in prison.
Now Joe is saying the only kind of evidence of perjury is DNA evidence or “a blue dress.”
Typical pundit.
Always shifting attention back to their mirrors.
epu’d=
oh i love it-
on npr at 5:47 on all things considered, wish i had a link
dan gare-pronounced garay, conservative, had a harsh commentary about scooter, him being a shark, him working as an under secretary of defense before cheney, under wolfawitz………commentary worth digging for, was a conservative repug commentary dissin’ scooter, oh my what is it coming to?
wish i could provide a link, for all of you that like preciseness, like me, try to find it, was like a dagger into dracula………..how soothing to the soul, his own, daggin’ him……….what now? still waitin’ for all of those rep and senator closet truth-lovers to come out of the closet
and ok kiddo-pay attention-i like all of your comments in their entirety……… they make me think……..really, i think where is that coming from? and i think about it, and then think further, so keep it coming no matter what the bridling people say……i say comment as much as you feel inspired to……..
Swopa, did you see your coat downstairs?
Can’t wait for Olberman tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fineman on msnbc.com
excellent article that lays it all and points “‘landmine” that libby may have been lying to hide…

Mrs K8 – Will cut a special bunch of both flowers with you in mind…) (washing every vase in the house in preparation today)
Thank you, sweetie!
Of course, you know that if you were to take digital pix of said forsythias and daffodils (especially the ones still attached to the outdoor plants in question) and if you were to post those pix somewhere on a little niche in these here Toobz, well, I surely wouldn’t complain…
hint, hint…
;-)
OK Turn on the NewsHour, its time for the segment on the Libby Trial!
I just toasted the ladies of FDL as well as Fitz with a fine Shiraz. Cheers!
Hugh, Bmaz, Neill!!
Anyway!
I really have to say that watching the Republicans crash and burn on the spin is hysterical. They are so unhinged. Love it!
I must be very careful about what I say about Scarborough
Please tell me that someone will counter Toensig on the Newshour. Please don’t just let her talk without a counterbalance.
Shiraz is a twisted martini.
Scarborough (sp?) just called Joe Wilson a “pathetic liar” on Tucker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Scarborough makes me puke.
He says Joe Wilson is the biggest liar in DC.
Ha!
I just saw Joe Scarborough’s nose grow longer, live on the teevee.
bmaz @ 52:
I completely agree.
My sig line at dKos used to be, “Sometimes you cover your ass with the lame excuses you have, not the lame excuses you wish for.”
I think that about sums up the materiality “defense.”
Scarborough sucks eggs.
Chiming in with my thoughts:
Hey, America, take a look at Mr. Fitzgerald there. Hey, DC! Congress! Look at this prosecutor. That’s what integrity looks like. Try emulating it once in a while.
It doesn’t feel good to know a high administration official was convicted of obstruction of justice – it stinks that there was something to convict. But it does feel good to be an American when you hear Fitzgerald speak about when there is no truth, there is no justice system. *That* is the American Way.
Melissa
Great stuff egregious!
Props to looseheadprop for keeping the corks popping.
Litigatormom, I think it was the goat that got us the verdict today – thanks for your sacrifice.
LMAO!
When Marcie signed off I thought she said she was going to get ‘worm’ inside.
I’m thinking, I thought she said she didn’t drink tequila anymore. Then my brain caught up to my ears.
Elliott!!! *will stop now* but will also say that I no longer have any need to read MSN commentary now that I have discobered FDL. All of you are so great.
Joe Wilson on npr — now that the trial is over there is no reason why they should not share what they know and share the transcripts of their fbi interviews!
Earlier today, I asked EW if she was still confident after seeing the jurors’ questions, because I no longer was. EW responded, and said she remained confident (this was hours prior to the verdict being announced). Turns out, that EW had a feel for this case that was justified.
To list just one example: Today, the juror — Collins — specifically pointed to Hannah’s testimony (Hannah was a DEFENSE witness, remember) as a nail in Libby’s coffin. EW emphasized weeks ago how Fitz was able to turn Hannah into a prosecution witness in a matter of a few minutes on cross. The jurors statements today proved that to be true. In short, I tip my hat to EW. The verdict, plus the statements by the juror today, validated every vibe EW had. I am truly impressed.
Final note: I was one of the people in recent days who was starting (contrary to many folks around these parts) to criticize the jury. Besides taking too long, I thought their notes to the judge were more often than not pure gibberish. I feared that even with a conviction, I would cringe upon hearing what the jurors said. We’ve only heard from one so far, but I have to say: the dude knew the case inside and out. My criticisms of the jury appears to have been misplaced. My apologies.
Happy Fitzmas!!
Sorry if this has already been posted (I haven’t been able to read all of the hundreds of comments).
Jeralyn did a chat at the washpost
http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..00559.html
Also, this strange post was linked to from Romenesko. I asked him to back up the generalizations he made
http://newhouse-web.syr.edu/le…..ogpost=197
Mrs. K8 – No. Don’t worry about having to pay for the rental car, that is to be expected and is not a problem. In fact, it will be necessary for you to have those receipts to prove your damages you wish to recover.
And thanks to the goat!
Bill Ben Venista (ap?) is the other guest with Victoria Toensing.
Up soon.
Has Tucker mentioned that his Dad runs the Libby Defense Fund yet?
And a big round of applause for the Peanut and her dinosaur outfit!
Marcy really is beautiful — I’ve been thinking that
for a couple of weeks now. Is there really a Mr emptywheel? And no hope for us lonely firepups?
Tucker really should not be allowed to commentariate on this trial. His dad is on the defense of libby fund board, something he has never disclosed on teevee.

Merry Fitzmas Joe, and *ucker
Up NOw
“discovered” wow *putting champagne away*
To sum up all my Plame comments on FDL since 10/05: I was wrong about pretty much everything.
I thought for sure if a guy like Bush messed with the CIA he wouldn’t survive. I really thought Fitz was going to keep the case active…sigh.
Well, time to demand a Congressional investigation!
Carol Leoning, WaPo is the first guest.
Suzanne @ 76:
I think it was the potent combination of the goat sacrifice, and The Peanut’s dinosaur costume.
The gods were pleased.
Jane,
You sounded positively giddy on the Rachel Maddow Show. Nice job!
Today is a great day for America and for those of us that used to be able to admire/respect America even when we disagreed with American policy. This treasonous act against the intelligence community, indeed that element charged with protecting us all from nuclear proliferation, has finally seen some beginning accountability done on its behalf. I say beginning accountability because there is still a long ways to go before full accountability has happened on this issue. Every single Administration official be they elected or non that was involved in the spreading of the fact that Plame was connected to the CIA deserves to be out of a job and held publicly accountable (at least in the court of public opinion if not in the criminal courts, although the criminal courts is where these folks should be properly held accountable) by their firings. That we are seeing the exact opposite shows by their actions that honour, integrity, loyalty to America and her national security and the safety of all Americans are nonexistent within the Bush WH.
This is a great day, yet at the same time it is not given what this was about. While I am overjoyed to see some accountability forced upon Bushco, that it had to be done like this over a crime so egregious (sorry Egregious, but I do like that word and have for many years now) and we are not able as of yet anyways to go after those that clearly betrayed Plame and the intelligence community is saddening to me as well. I would never have believed prior to her outing that any President and Administration would ever expose a CIA covert asset let alone for purely partisan political purposes and especially not for pure spin/damage control. As I have said before recently for me given my background this is something truly horrific and beyond disgusting and clear treachery IMHO. I love the fact we have some proof that there was criminal wrongdoing by senior members of the Bush WH, but that it took the outing of a NOC to get any is still saddening and I feel the price was too high given what I know would have happened after she and her cover business were exposed, especially given that she was working against nuclear proliferation.
In any event, thank you FireDogLake for being my beacon of light during the great darkness that the media ignorance and GOP spinners enshrouded this issue in from the outset. Despite their best efforts you were instrumental in piercing that shroud by magnifying the light of Fitzgerald’s investigation and subsequent convictions against Libby on the Bush WH and the American MSM media and their complicity in the smear and cover-up. The fire in the hearth here was truly warming as well as illuminating, and one I will never forget nor soon abandon. Thank you all once again from this Bluenoser who without this place would have been left in much greater darkness on this issue and the desperation by which the GOP was trying to spin it away.
this afternoon’s schedule:
1. go swimming, be back in time for Keith at 5.
2. Watch Keith.
3. Drink shots of fine tequila while watching Keith. One shot for each guilty count.
4. Carne Asada street tacos for dinner.
5. watch keith again at 9. consider whether to have more tequila.

Thanks for that quickie answer. It’ll go a long way toward helping me sleep better tonight!
Big virtual hugs coming your way! Take all the time you need before writing to me.

I’m still waiting for any Democrat in Congress to grow a pair. Wake me up when there’s even a hint of testosterone in either chamber…
Hey rockstars!!
Eg and I are having fun.
But we still don’t think Shurm should be on TV. I’m bad on TV. But I’m a lot cuter.

Wow, Buchanan got an angry call from Joe Wilson, I bet ex-Congressman-with-a-dead-intern Joe Scarborough will get a call as well!
TheresapChicago@90
can fingers slur?
;)
Just watched the vlog Marcy. It’s amazing how much you have improved with your on air presence in just a few postings. Your writing needed no improvement BTW.
I’d say you are ready for the Sunday morning talk shows!
Do you hear that MSM?
This is the woman to set you straight on the meaning of all this.
Matt Cooper and Novak on Charlie Rose tonight.
*ucker, whinging: “I thought this guy was a Republican.”
Pat Buchanan: “When you have an Irish bachelor, what do you expect?”
So Buchanan thinks this trial was all about Fitz’s sexual frustration?
There are plenty of people I know (if only virtually) who would be willing to help with that — now that the trial is over! We would have never wanted to distract him during the trial.
Buchanan should know better than to F*** with Joe Wilson.
Marcy, you’d do a lot for Tweety’s ratings that Shrum will never do. Someday soon one of them will catch on to that.
Until then, you belong to us!
What Bush really meant to say: Scooter Libby has worked tirelessly for many years to cover Darth Cheney’s ass….
Mrs. K8 – Paying for your rental car actually shows that you have incurred the cost (damage) and are entitled to recovery from the responsible party. Payment does not create any detriment to getting reimbursed.
Scarborough
No dog in this fight (ya right) and just mentioned the blue dress..Scarborough go back on your meds now ! Betcha Plame house is sitting there with there jaws dropping. Repugs think the louder they scream the more they can subvert the truth. Disgusting.
family values..ha ! they are amoral to the core.Partisian to bone. Simply outrageous and these people are lawyers..shame on them.
PBS was dead to me when they put on bill Kristol.
from last thread, its good to see coultergiest getting what she has coming to her for all her hate speech. h/t to Ed teller, Her comment last night on Fuxnews according to democracy now was that “she hoped young repugs learn how easy it is to attack liberals” – i kid you not. That bitch is evil. Edwards spoke on it earlier. A little late but good on him.
these people are dispicable. How dare they attack the left for being uncivil ?
emptywheel you’re great on Tv!
…and a generation of new Murrows is upon us….
is that a tad over-dramatic?
well, if so, just take it as an expression of appreciation!
to the entire fdl crew.
And let us most certainly hope that planeloads of new information make it to Fitzgerald!
Marcy, you are not only way cuter than Shrum, but you are much much more intelligent.
Steve Rhodes @ 101
Thanks for the links to coverage of the Libby verdict. Keep them coming Steve and everyone else!
ARGH!
Buchanan is a big fuckhole. Mind my language. But really, Let me have Pat Buchanan. I’ll take his testicles out.
WTF happened with “perjury is a serious issue.”
Except when it doesn’t involve sex.
We can use cameras here at Plame house.
“convicted felon” and “unanimous jury verdict on four of five counts” — these need to be our memes
Buchanan’s on a roll here… pushing and pushing about the backbone of this whole thing: leading U.S. into war falsely.
Chainie ordered his minions to call the MSM and tell them to get back in line and spin this mother hard. He’s got a blood clot in his leg and he is in no mood for this sh*t!
This is bizarre. Buchanan, Tucker and the guy in the glasses truly discussing this?
*ucker says, “I don’t think this prosecution should have gone forward, but I believe Libby lied. Why did he do that?”
Because he thought he could, you frakkin’ idiot!
So when is *ucker going to disclose that he’s just repeating what his daddy told him?
Marcy for pundit!
emptywheel will stop the spinners.
See, now you had to go and get all *uncivil*, MT!!
feeling sorry for libby?
let’s see 660,000 dead iraqui civilians divided by bush, cheney, rove, libby, armitage, etc…etc…etc…
not much to feel sorry about folks!!!
Thanks, lagunatic! That’s such a relief to know.
And hey, Teddy SanFran!
I missed Buchanan’s whining because I was listening to Jeffrey Toobin on CNN saying that Scooty-Scoot hasn’t really a prayer for a new trial OR an appeal, that a pardon is his only hope — and that it might not be forthcoming after all.
So can you (or others) give more detail on what Buchanan said or did that got Joe Wilson pissed?
You all are brave to watch Tucker. I can’t any more.
hackworth –
Yeh, Cheney’s got a clot in his leg alright. Its nickname is “Scooter.”
The last thread I made a comment that is worth repeating the VICTORY IS BITTERSWEET because Joe and Valerie are heroes of our great country and their lives have been in turmoil. Marcy, you look great………..
Jeralyn is coming up on Rachel Maddow.
PBS – Icky Toensing’s on…
I heard Buchanan say “Wilson wrote in the op-ed that Veep sent him to Niger” earlier today; then, on another MSNBC (the earlier Tucker) he said he’d gotten “a very angry call from Joe Wilson” about that, and went on to be inaccurate about something else….
Can Joe Wilson sue Ed Rogers for calling him a liar on hardball?
emptywheel @ 115:
Ed Roger succinctly spun the “perjury only matters when its about sex” meme:
In other words, lying about sex is bad because you can prove the act of sex with DNA on the blue dress.
Lying about outing a covert CIA agent is no biggie because you can only prove it with the testimony of other people, who are clearly lying if they contradict what some honest and honorable patriot serving Our Government is the defendant.
Is that clear?
I would like to toast all the commenters who watch the MSM shit…
…so i don’t have to.
Pectophah – Joe Wilson has bigger fish to fry than lil ole Ed Rogers
fast forward (could happen… ; )
Cheney: I’d like to discuss with you the possibility of a Libby pardon…
Bush: Go fuck yourself
Tonesing is drowning. HURRAY!

Victoria Toensig is on PBS’s The NewsHour?
She was also on with Wolfie on CNN and was miserable and demeaning to Wolfie..never let him say a word and it looked like he was ready to blow his cork at her. She is certainly one of the most obnoxious people out there. Give her to Smoking Joe Scarborough..they deserve each other…
Great job done by all…hope you are all celebrating! I am.
I can’t watch Tucker either. Like Sampson, I think he lost his edge when he got his haircut.
(I’m gagging on my own snark!)
Elliot@103 – Apparently so Elliott but thank you so much for your incisive commentary. I mean it. This has been a real education
EW@115 – By all means then. A you state that you can use cameras there at Plame Chateau, please feel free to do so. Everybody raves about your video appearances as it is; now you can really set a new standard!
Buchanan: “Nobody around the country knows who Scooter Libby is….it’s not like Haldeman and Erlichman. Its not like this Walter Reed and US Attorney thing.”
Well, at least he thinks the Walter Reed and US Attorney stories are important….
Thanks, Teddy!
Buchanan is a prick. I’ve known this for many years. Once I had the misfortune many years ago of having a real fascist for a boss (briefly!) and I had to reprint Buchanan’s columns on all sorts of right-wing nutcase ideas in his own organization’s newsletters.
Until I reminded the boss he was violating copyright regs if he didn’t have permission.
It was a very happy day when I quit THAT job.
Ugh. Creeps.
Hey, the Prosecution is drinking and tuning us in, too!
Hey Babies, you ROCK
What are you drinking? Just drop in a name
What in the Hell do you mean that you are done?
Mine? A spicy California Zinfandel
I know that if you call somebody a maggot now you have to go into rehab. because you know it’s not politically correct. i was going to talk about libby but i dont want to go into rehab so i cant.
But you gotta give it to Buchanan to keep pushing the HOW AND WHY WE GOT INTO IRAQ meme.
Russert coming up on NBC Nightly News…
*ucker: “I don’t remember anyone in the press saying we should go to war.”
Buchanan: “There were a lot of journalists hauling water for the White House.”
No, really?
Then roll Rogers into to the other suit. This defamation of character has got to stop. Stop it with a libel suit against one of these thugs. Journalist use the term alleged for a reason. Rogers did not. He did not even say what the lie was.
Go Marcy!
Sounds like you Eg and Jane are having loads of fun.
Meant to tell you I finished your book a while back, sorry. But what a day! Congratulations, you earned it.
Me, I’m just happy this trial is over so I can write my dissertation before I fail out of grad school! :)
thanks Cozumel -
tuning into NBC News to ready myself for Russert…
And Scarborough called Wilson “the biggest liar in DC” — I’d like to say HIM get sued, too.
Marcy or anyone – is the book only available online or can I buy it in a bookstore?
Buchanan is in fact ‘a weird one.’
he sometimes makes sense. at that point the uber-right and left meet on the circle.
but most of the time he is not at that point on the circle.
Victoria is sputtering…..on News Hour
I’m looking forward to hearing about the US Attorney hearings.
Brian Williams leads with the Libby story. “And the star witness, Tim Russert, here on NBC Nightly News.”
Rachel Maddow is devoting her show to the Libby verdict. Jeralyn is coming up next.
http://www.airamerica.com/
We are seeing the VWRC noise machine in full throttle today, folks — if you think about it, the verdict itself is irrelevant to their talking points. Had there been a complete sweep of NOT GUILTY, they could be louder and happier, but they would be saying the same things: no underlying crime, Valerie wasn’t covert, Joe Wilson’s a liar.
Watch and learn — this is how it’s done. Totally unrelated to facts on the ground, these points were developed without knowing the verdict and are spun out regardless of it.
ooops, should be “SEE him get sued.”
p.s. what happened to the edit and quote options? I’m sure this is very old news, but I wasn’t around, sadly, when whatever happened happened.
Ditto on the slander/libel lawsuits. Time to stop the swiftboating of the truth tellers.
BTW What was Wilson supposed to have lied about? He did go to Africa and there wasn’t any nuclear weapons.
Leher says:
Cheney: “Very Disappointed”.
Richard Ben-Veniste is doing a great job talking about the case.
Teonsing back up. Teonsings spinning it thus:
1. Cheney’s counter attack is not illegal.
2. fitz had an agneda becuase he gave ari immunity without knowing what he had
The moderator (god bless him) “Does the license of lying in politics go out the window in front of a grand jury”
Richard Ben-Veniste slaps down critics for claiming Fitz’s prosecution is politically motivated. Tonesing claims she is not one of those people.
Toensing sucked. HURRAY. She was completely ineffective.
Ben-Venista WINS. We win.
Cheney, Rove, Bush, Libby and their media whores are maggots in the wounds they’ve given the Republic.
The body politic has begun to expel them with the pus they all deserve.
Williams: despite the upbeat tone of some commanders that we just might be making progress in Baghdad, there is awful news…but first, the Libby trial….
Very bad news for the former chief of staff of the Vice President. “And the damage may not stop there.”
Now we have Kelly O’Donnell. Is she Noron’s sister?
I just might miss the news hour today,I think I am going to be working on a world class hangover.
Watching the Wurlitzer screeching away at volume #11 is annoying.
Teresa –
I think you can ask your local bookstore to get some copies in. That would help Marcy and FDL, too!
The edit/quote buttons were temporarily disabled to help the servers on verdict day. They will return.
What happened to sealed vs. sealed?
Looks like I got some phone calls to make to my elected reps — this can’t be the end.
Neil says:

Fitz cannot prosecute Cheney. Only Congress can.
That is the presumption. It has yet to be tested. The Watergate special prosecutor thought Nixon couldn’t be prosecuted and didn’t attempt it, which is why the grand jury named him as an un-indicted co-conspirator.
It would end up in the Supreme Court, but nobody’s had the stones to try.
newshour is not on here (Chicago) for another 25 minutes. I’m dying to see it…..
BTW, a defense lawyer friend I spoke with said the prosecution team is likely three sheets to the wind at this point. I hope they’re just having a really great time somewhere
Fabulour
F*ck the star witness Russert, Ligatormom’s comment about reasonable doubt was the classic.
Still, a glass of Caol Ila Distiller’s Edition hoisted to FDL.
Richard Ben-Veniste, btw, prosecuted some of the Watergate criminal trials.
hi suzanne!!
Nobody knew who Haldeman and Erlichman were before Watergate. Nobody knew who Scooter Libby was until Plamegate and Firedoglake.
As much as the MSM wants to bury this at the behest of their WH and corporate masters, they will choke on the repurcussions of this verdict.
Yeehaw. Shock and awe!
Ms. K8 – Really? Would that be more beneficial to Marcy than buying it on-line?
TeddySanFran,
DONE!
Russert up now on NBC
OT Brian Williams reporting from Baghdad. Yesterday he was all upbeat and gungho about the new Baghdad security plan. Today after 9 Americans died and a car bombing which killed 90 Iraqis, not so upbeat. When will they learn?
Thank you all so much for your wonderful coverage of the whole affair.
I can’t afford much, but I made a small paypal contribution in appreciation.
Fresh thread upstairs folks.
thnx Suzanne
I’m going to bed now…No sleep is making me loopy. Again, THANK-YOU to ALL at the Lake.
I couldn’t have made it without your knowledge, wit and snark!
It was getting really dark for a while, but you all kept the light shining brightly and today, I watched history unfold with all of you..
From the bottom of my heart, THANK-YOU THANK-YOU
you are all my heroes.
love and peace to you all.. :)
Fabulous… oh God, it’s Tim
Don’t you think he’s okay? Come on, Guys
does Libby still have his job in the VP office?
Kelly O’Donnell: repeating Shooter’s praise of Scooter.
For more on this verdict, we are joined by the man many have called the key witness…Tim Russert. How does this affect politics.
Timmeh: Veep and Bush say they are saddened, but they won’t say anything else. They will not comment on pardon. Lots of eyes on Veep. Fitz says unless new evidence, investigation is inactive.
Dems “pounce.” They say the war was on trial. And they ask Bush to pledge no pardon.
William: you weren’t looking to play a major role in this trial, your reaction.
Timmeh: I take no joy in this, it wasn’t our doing. But when you are asked to testify in a criminal trial, you have no choice but to tell the truth. I am concerned about journalists being called, but when you are called you do it.
Yeah, Timmeh, I’m sure you take no joy in the fact that your name is now mud in the White House. Heh.
Teresa –
Why not do both? Order online first if you’re impatient (which is understandable), but tell your bookstore that you know there’s great topical interest in the case now.
Back when I had an academic book published, all my friends asked libraries (all over the world!) to order it, and they virtually always did.
So, libraries are another way to help. Ask them to order the book.
What could it hurt? And it really can help.
Fitz is the best!….Jane, Marcy, and Jeralyn ty for the great coverage!!!!
sparkles says
oh my god i can’t stand it–only channel i get, pbs, here is pledge week , really, no charlie rose, whom i tape every night he is on……oh well…..i will expect all you ((((fdl’rs)))) to keep me informed.
aimed at pach:
SHIT
Just watched NBC news, I thought they did a good job, hit all the main points of the case in a straightforward way. Made a point of pointing out how “unusual” it is for a sitting VP to criticize a jury’s verdict.
dannygodeep at 99,
John Conyers, where art thou?????????????????
Been awhile since I’ve spoken up on here.
Just wanted to say that I am electrically lit, inspired and excited by what you all at Firedoglake have helped to accomplish.
I feel so fortunate that I attend this site, and so knew to take full advantage of your fantastic coverage of this important ‘the worm has turned’ event!
Thank you to Jane, Christy, Emptywheel, Marcy Swopa, Patch, TRex, and…so sorry if I missed anyone.
And also, thanks to so many of the wonderful and interesting crowd of commentors here at FDL.
Mrs K8 we turned off Edit and Quote to ease the server load. They’ll be back.
And Steve Rhodes … interesting in that link to Romanesko – it only acknowledges the MBA bloggers which we were definitely not a part of. Perhaps someone would like to remind them that the real blog coverage was at FDL and that it was praised by many including Editor&Publisher.
TeddySanFran #157,
And how! The Administration, their PR people inside and outside government, and, of course, all of the Establishment press that is just horrified that a high government official can be held to account for his lies. David Broder must be apoplectic.
Add to 192…Jeralyn and Egregious. Still sorry if I missed anyone. I know you’ll undestand!
Sincerely
Bustednuckles @ 165-
Can’t stomach any MSM since watching Fitzgerald news conference. Knew the wingers would be “leaping about mightily” as my Gran used to put it, & they haven’t disappointed…
But will definitely knock off online work @ 7 p.m. to hoist a Sapphire & tonic & watch Ben-Veniste smack Vicky around on the News Hour ;)
What a day! First, I couldn’t load the site–but that alone implied the jury had returned, then my daughter tried and couldn’t–but googled it and got the info that way, then I had to leave for an hour and when I got back, my new modem (the old one died on 2/ll so I missed half the liveblogging) refused to work and I just now got here! I miss ALL the fun I tell ya. But Praise the Fates/Universe/Jesus/Allah/etc!!! I’m so glad it’s fun!!
Congratulations Joe and Valerie. The coverage of this story in the MSM has just improved dramatically! ABC News did a decent job–asking if Cheney will resign… Heh!
Congratulations FDL! What an awesome thing you’ve done!
Now to read and try to get caught up…
(BTW: Wonderful to see all the new commenters here.)
With Fitz apparently pulling up stakes and folding up his tent, EW, maybe you could go on retainer as a consultant for Wilson’s team. What an outstanding job. In fact, patriotism at its best. Thanks so much!
Egregious-Glad to see you buzzed down into the heart of darkness to witness history. Enjoy it!
Theresa
methinks you have me confused with Eli who does offer incisive commentary!
and as for the NewsHour, see if Toensing doesn’t seem subdued or “drowning” as Neil put it. Must be onaccounta Ben-Veniste. She’s been almost rabid elsewhere.
Teresa @ 6:29 pm -
You can buy it in a bookstore.
We’ll have to repost our praise for the FDL team including Siun tomorrow as they’re all tying one on and won’t remember a thing.
I finally got PayPal straightened out and was able to clear my conscience because I was lurking on your site long before this trial got to trial. So my self loathing for not contributing to your expenses has been erased. It’s not much but it should pay for another bottle of wine or two. Salute!
Oooh – how distracting !
First i get a late start reading this post, then before I can concentrate on the comments I have to get rid of two images in my mind:
a) Jane in a towel
b) The context of Marcy asking Jane to sleep with her?
anyway…job well done folks!
Siun –
Thanks kindly for your answer.
That decision makes sense. Am glad to hear the functions will be back, though. Although I’ll bet our conscientious mods appreciate not having to do the zig maintenance work!
What’s Marcy’s interview tomorrow? C-SPAN? Imus?!
Did someone say Imus?
Cooper on a new edition of Tweety. He thought initially that his testimony about the conversation with Libby would be exonerating, since Rove had first leaked, and Libby was just confirming.
Tweety: Why do you think he made up this elaborate story?
Cooper: I can only speculate, but my take on this is that when CIA asked for investigation, he assumed that it would never go anywhere. He never thought that they would assign a bullgod like Fitz. Had a story, stuck with it.
Tweety: What do you think about the way this story educates about how the WH protects itself?
Cooper: Yes, Wilson coalesced all the doubts about the war, and this was a torpedo headed for the WH (agrees with Tweety’s use of “torpedo”). They retracted the 16 words, yet tried to impeach Wilson. A kind of Inspector Clousseau attempt.
Tweety: Are you going to write a book? Cooper says maybe.
Next up, Dick Sauber, Cooper’s attorney.
Matthews: I LOVE reading these books.
Yep, he read it (Marcy’s book) ; )
marcy was GREAT, I do want to point out one thing though
the investigation was NOT about smearing Joe Wilson, it was about exposing our national security by uncovering classified information
Has any juror but Collins spoken out yet?
Mabel’s Wig Shack: If you’re still around…Libby resigned when he was indicted.
Egregious! woo! just made my day :)
Sorry to be asking this so late in the game. But wasn’t there enough testimony about Libby leaking Valery Plame’s name that he could have been tried and convicted for that? If not, what more would have been needed?
Cooper: I can only speculate, but my take on this is that when CIA asked for investigation, he assumed that it would never go anywhere. He never thought that they would assign a bullgod like Fitz. Had a story, stuck with it.
litagatormom: is the typo in the above paragraph yours? if so it must be connected to the ‘goat’ sacrifice.
Audrey @ 212: no I didn’t know that. thank you.
Who are Agnew and Libby, Alex??
The National Review wants Libby pardoned now.
THAT would be interesting.
“mahopac maze”
Mahopac, NY?
Small world, my business partner lives there. On Stonewall Farm Road ; )
ANYYBODY HERE OR IS THIS EPU TERRITORY
EPU’d from below –
I bought a $240 bottle of Remy Martin Extra Cognac to celebrate. If it was Cheney or Bush, I’d have splurged on the Louis XIII.
This is way better than the Niners winning the Super Bowl.
GPB @ 220:
Remy?
I think would have gone with an A. de Fussigny cognac. I’m no expert, but I always thought Remy was a little harsh.
FYI – Colins indicated he felt somewhat obligated to discuss the case being a former journalist. He indicated the other jurers did not want to discuss the case at this time, and may never want to discuss it.
How does the appeals process work? I heard a 3 judge panel is involved. Where do they come from, how are they selected, and are they going to be conservatives?
Late here! Have an excuse. Been enjoying cleanup duty on Lehrer, Tweetie, Wolfzzzzzzzzzzzz, Lehrer s’more to show hubby, Tweetie s’morezzz, OlberMAN w/ Wilson(!), & then finally the potatoes are declared ready for dinner. Confession: just couldn’t stand more than 2sec of Mr. potatohead saying wow/gee whiz/whew! tho Cooper’s lawyer was kinda refreshingly giddy – wonder why, heh.
Having a bit of a hard time swimming upstream with all those wanting to feel sorry for Irving. Besides, is “the wife” miffed ’cause he’s not pointing fingers???? So I guess I’m supposed to feel sorry for her? him? her? him? Wells (didn’t quite cry on camera, but voice cracked teensiest bit, & quavered over stated looming task of “overturn or appeal, overturn or appeal.”
Oh POOH! I don’t have enuf compassion left over after our soldiers, our needy at home, what we’ve unleashed in Iraq et al., madness continuing in Darfur….
These folk were stomping around like brass-plated royalty 2 yrs ago, flaying & flying at will. I do NOT feel sorry for those who are caught by their own vicious lies and deceit!
Thank you Marcy, Jane, egregious, Christy, Pach, Sian, Peterr & all the other secretive & not-so-sneaky mods who continually try to save us from ourselves, PLUS so many others. You are all heroes.
I.AM.SO.PROUD of you all!
$$$s for Matt Cooper, just made the comparison between Clinton and Libby on Charlie Rose.
Booyah.
Just watching Laura Ingraham on the Hannity Colmes show (I know, but I only watch it along with Trinity Broadcast Network for comedy relief) amd she was decrying what a travesty of justice this trial and verdict was for our nation.
Are they going to tell us next that now the juries all have a left wing bias?
Congratulations to the entire Fire Dog Lake team! When the histories of this sordid episode in the Bush Presidency is written, your place in that narrative is secured. It has been fascinating to watch FDL show the MSM how reporting can and should be done. Your coverage of this trial, and of the entire Novack-White House-Wilson-Plame affair to date, is a watershed in reporting.
