Speaking of cool gigs, I'm going to see The Hangmen tonight, tomorrow The Dandy Warhols. By the way, if you haven't seen the documentary Dig featuring The Dandys, rent it. I thought it was really well done, and I'm tough to please.

I love The Cramps. That is all. Thanks for posting this.
sorry to go so off topic donna, but plame information is never off topic here at the lake
raw story has some info on a valery plame movie

Have a good time at the Dandy’s gig. I saw Zia at the deli counter at Wild Oats here in Portland a few weeks back, and had “Boys Better” going through my head when I got up this morning. But now I have “Shove” by L7 in my head, and confess that I find the effect entirely pleasant. At Democratic Underground this morning, we were discussing our summers of Dickless, Hole, L7, Babes. In the immortal words of Jeri Blank, “Good times, mm! I’d wake up with blood on my ass, and then we’d get high.”
Tomorrow night I’m going to see a friend’s jazz trio at a cafe in my neighborhood. I think the last rock thing I saw was Heavy Trash at Dante’s. Clearly I need to get out more.
Thanks for the Cramps.
This video is disturbing but makes me warm all over.
I’ve got my eye on the Mountain Goats this evening. They are playing at a lovely dinner theater in Seattle, the Triple Door.
I’m trying to figure out how far am I willing to travel for The Police. Bonnaroo is gonna be insanity squared and is a 6 hour drive for me. Chicago is in the second set of tour dates and is 3 hours from me but has the benefit of far less mud and insanity than Bonnaroo.
There was BB King live at the Cook County Jail!
swag @ 3
I’m proud that L7 helps invoke Jeri Blank quotes in your mind.
“Good tiiiimes…”
Okay, one more thing about that Cramps video. They do “TV Set” on the DVD also. When we first watched it, my darling bride professed, “I don’t know if it’s a good idea to be singing ‘I saw you on my TV set’” at a mental hospital.
If I could have one wish, it would be tickets, plane tickets, hotel, etc. to see Tori Amos in Florence, Italy on my birthday in May.
I LOVE this video.
This brings back such happy memories. A friend had the tape years ago.
The day started with hearing The Pogues’ “If I sShould Fall From Grace With God” in a coffeeshop, and now THIS.
btw – the supposedly entire original linup of Thos Pogues is touring. I can scarcely imagine what Shane McGowan looks like today.
Pere Ubu are still as vital as ever live.
Quite astounding if you look at the history.
Wire are sadly missed
Their last tour they played harder music than they did 30 years ago.
Donita: Great pick of a classic Pere Ubu song!!! One of my alltime faves. They were such an amazing band back then.
TRex @ 10
I wish I could make that happen for you. Have you looked into plane tickets?
Wow. “Slip Kid”. I haven’t thought of that song in ages.
A surprisingly good late edition to The Who catalog.
I’ve got my clipboard, text books
Lead me to the station
Yeah, I’m off to the civil war

Shyeah. I can barely afford to go to Florence, South Carolina, babe. But you know, some day.

I saw The Who the other night in Long Beach. We got lost on the way and missed half the show. I told my friend that I really wanted to hear Slip Kid. She didn’t know what I was talking about. It’s really hard to sing that song to someone. So much is in the groove. Didn’t hear it at the show though. They were good, sound was bad, visuals were excellent.
What’s the cheapest Italian airport to fly into? Rome? Anyone?
From Court TV:
Breaking: Jury sends two more notes
Court TV has learned that before retiring early for the weekend the jurors in the Scooter Libby trial sent two notes to the judge. The judge intends to deal with them in open court Monday at 9am. The notes’ contents have not been revealed publicly.
annx at 20 — Yep, just got that from the courthouse. Everyone got the same memo.
Tickets to Vienna Teng.
Next month.
I’m all about the singer-songwriters! Well, and a whole lot of other music–preferably live.
And every so often I *need* to be at a music festival. See Barbra Ehrenreich’s “Dancing in the Streets: A History of Collective Joy.” Topics history of music/dance and effect on crowds, and how societies that banned such were subject to Melancholy. Good topic, kinda tediously written though.
Good lord. All the tickets are over $1000.
Of course, since I’m just daydreaming, I checked first class fares, too. $3000.
Oof.
Trex @ 19:
Rome: tons of flights there, so will be cheapest.
By the way an old Who song that still sounds really good (besides Slip Kid) : Eminence Front.
More notes. I knew it. I knew they’d send more notes. Gah.
Trex:
Find a cheap flight to New York. Then get New York (or Newark) to Rome.
Biodun @ 24
Actually, it looks like Milan is cheaper.
More notes: Talk about paper trail.
Donita,
I heard this song on the radio while driving, and the station didn’t say who performed it.
I played it in my head for hours, and I tried to play some of it on the piano.
The next day I called the DJ of the classic rock station and played it as well as I could for her. I also knew what time the song played.
“You don’t know any of the words?” Nope. I was just trying to keep track of the very complicated melodies.
This was it, she found it after two tries:

Of course there are more notes – this is a music thread!
Whoops here are the notes …
UPDATE 3:07 ET. Here are the jury’s notes, and this time, it ain’t about post-its. They want the judge to clarify the term “reasonable doubt.” And they’ve got a technical question about Count 1 of the indictment, which is the obstruction charge.
Okay what does this mean?
annx @ 32
there were a couple posts yesterday surmising exactly this
there’s a cool brazilian artist that use to play in mental hospitals, jail, public parks, trash places, etc… his name is “Totonho & Os Cabra” and his last tour was called “Pega Rato” (something like catch the rats tour) and if anyone wanna see some coverage here’s the link: http://www.trama.com.br/portal…..&tip=2
well, is portuguese, but you can hear his music and see some crazy people…
also, his latest video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2o_7s_RUz6c
is a song called “Totonho venha salvar o mundo” and the lyrics say something like superman is on wheelchair, so now I have to save the world… funny shit…
I’m going to see Jello Biafra tonight at the Baronet Theatre in Asbury Park. He’s doing a spoken work performance and I’m really excited to hear what he has to say.
I remember No More Cocoons and listening to it with my very Republican father and him getting VERY upset during the part about the Space Shuttle.
Anyway, should be an interesting night.
hum, about concerts, next days I’m gonna see Bad Religion here in Sao Paulo, they play here almost every year!
the best concert I ever saw was Manic Street Preachers @ england in 97…
oh and The Who just cancelled their south american tour…
TRex… there’s a great site called SideStep.com that does all the flight searches for you and will find you alternate cities to fly in and out of.
I love this site. It really reduces the 10 windows/tabs open making comparisons between expedia, orbitz and travelocity.
Great site.
Happy Birthday.
Hee hee. “We’re those Libyan terrorists you’ve been hearing about…”
Of course, we didn’t. Same old concern. “What if we get caught?”
Here is a link to the notes ….

Help Christy?
TRex @ 38
HAHAHA
Those notes are doosies.
I do not like #2.
The time stamp of # 2 went from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm. They deliberated over that one for 90 minutes. No doubt the reason for the dictionary request yesterday.
Note #2 is weird.
“We would like clarification of the term reasonable doubt. Specifically, is it necessary for the government to present evidence that it is not humanly possible for someone not to recall an event in order to find guilt beyond reasonable doubt.”
This is where they are supposed to use their own judgement. Lawyers out there, any clues on how the instructions would go here?
j.cro @ 35
You may not believe this, but I saw Jello do spoken word co-headlining with Tammy Faye Baker. 1/2 punk rockers, 1/2 PTL members in the audience in about 2001. Tammy didn’t dig Jello’s routine and reffered to him as Jello Viagra. She had technical difficulties with her microphone cutting out and Jello came out with his microphone for her like a gentleman.
Like much of this trial and the tea reading – #2 could be read two ways ….
You could ask if the prosecutor had to prove beyond a scientific certainty in order to convict …
or you could read it as someone diggin in there heels on the jury when the rest want to go to one answer …
Or you could read it as they have doubts about the case …
Arrgghhh.
new note thread up
But music discussion can continue here
Dictionary? Definition of reasonable doubt? These jurors are supposed to be well-educated!
Donita Sparks @ 46
That’s fantastic! And we are the personification of don’t judge a book by its cover.
Happy Friday to all!
Oh, my Donita! Thanks so much, especially for the link to PT’s blog.
And the vid: some of the most interesting “concert footage” out there…

Ah, little worse than bad sound at a show. I saw Bob Dylan at the Showbox in Seattle this past winter. The sound was terrible. The band was bad. And Bob was bored. The bad sound compounded all the other problems.

Thank you, perris.
and off topic too:
While it would be ironic for Plame’s story to be illegally leaked by the White House, only to have another government branch deny her the right to tell it herself, the CIA has the latitude to silence Plame.

on topic:
so which kind of music would the Wilsons prefer?
