Good evening, my little webutantes! How is everyone?
Me, well, I've been better. You know, I signed up for a yoga class because I wanted to do something good for myself and maybe try to introduce some physical activity into my largely sedentary lifestyle. It's been awesome, too. I've managed not to shred any mats with my giant TRex talons, and I've only knocked a couple of people down by swishing my big old tail. (Oops! Heh. Sorry!)
It was really nice of them to have class in a Boeing hangar so I don't bump my head on the ceiling, too.
However, at some point during yesterday's class, my third, I must have done something wrong. Maybe I overdid it. I felt fine all day, but then when I got up this morning, just as I was bending down to pick something up off the floor, my back lit up like a freaking switchboard. Ow! Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow!! Michelle Malkin must have stuck a pin in her TRex voodoo doll or something.
A heating pad, some Tylenol, and several hours later, I am feeling much better. I am following my yoga teacher's instructions to the letter, although she freely admits that her knowledge of Theropod physiology is somewhat limited.
Really, though. The heating pad is my new best friend. Good thing it's not the middle of the summer or I'd be one miserable lizard.
So, I was trying to decide what to write about tonight and realized that it's the perfect night for a big Invitation to De-Lurk post. Whoo-hooo! We know there's an awful lot of you coming through here these days thanks to the Libby trial, and we'd like to know who you are. Welcome!
Most of you who have been here for a while know how this works. We're inviting those of you who have never (or only very rarely) left a comment or introduced yourself to do so. We've made some of our best friends this way, including DreamingCrow and aliasofwestgate who were lurkers until our last Invitation to De-Lurk night.
Don't be shy! Come on in, the Lake is fine! Regulars, please make our little newbies feel welcome. I know that during the day, there may have been some isolated incidents of newbie-bashing, you know, when people show up and ask questions that make our crew of Plame obsessives roll their eyes, "What, you don't even know THAT?!" But I know that if I hadn't started reading here during the grand jury investigation, I wouldn't know a lot of this stuff either, so, you know, chill out, y'all. You were as ignorant as Sean Hannity about the particulars of L'Affaire Plame once too, you know.
This would also be a good time for any of you with questions that you've been afraid to ask about the trial or FDL or anything at all to ask away! No questions are off-limits or too obvious or too mundane tonight. Welcome to FireDogLake. We can't wait to meet you!

TRex– hope you feel bettah soon.
i read the post first!
TRex!
I understand the back pain. Be good to yourself…and walk slowly.
Yes Trex, Careful with your back. A good soak in a tub of hot water to start.
WOW!!!!
I actually truly delurked at the Oscars and had a grand ole time. Finally, I could comment at some sort of an intelligent level since my hubby is in the biz (behind the camera type). But I have to say that this is such a friendly bunch. My own work is Museum Studies (I teach at the Graduate Level). This place, however, is my addiction. Especially now as we all suffer and wait. I think it’s just grand that a community can come together through technology. And a seat by the lake is one of the best. (oh yeah, and I finally figured out edit).
Madness! Madness! Madness!
(No, not you guys. Please, continue delurking.)
I usually read this blog every day. The posts are so complete I don’t need to ask questions and I learn a lot about the minutia and procedure of law. The explanations of the whole complicated Plame mess were great. I’m kind of addicted to the Plame case. I think it’s because I am amazed that this treasonous act of outing a CIA officer and all the lying about intelligence and of course the cover up has not stirred the general public. The only drawback is I seemed to have fallen in love with a certain federal procecutor (I’ve been married for 26 years). Since it is impossible to get real reliable news from TV or newspapers, I read a few select blogs. For the Plame affair, I read FDL. Thanks to everyone here for the great coverage.
I blame Connecticut.

Welcome lurkers and new commenters.
I won’t be staying up late, but as one of the hosts of this crazy dance club, just wanted to pop my head out, try to look presentable and say thank you for your gracious choice to spend time with us, even if you choose to stay silent.
My name is Peterr, and I’m a Plame-a-holic. It’s been 20 minutes since I last refreshed the screen . . .
Yes Lurkers! The Trex wishes you make your presence known! Come out, come out wherever you are!
Besides, he has a hard day and probably just wants to hit the hay.
hi, belle1 :) I didn’t participate in the oscar discussion, so I missed you. Nice to see you here.
Peterr @ 12
Sigh. I think that is self-control. I manage that during the live-blogging, but when I am in the mood to travel in I don’t have that much discipline.
Madness…..Madness…..MADNESS
I am oddball and I am powerless over the Plame Game
I have, on occasion, de-lurked. But then comes the RE-lurk. Maybe I need a fancy hat like in your picture. Perhaps such a hat would embolden, or embiggen, my confidence?
Flexoril is your friend… he says in a slithering, pharma-sales-rep-like voice!
Hi All… I’m not sure I’ve ever “lurked” before. I’m too big of a loudmouth to “lurk” for long. But I’d like to say hi to any and all new folks who show up in advance. I’m supposed to join my next door neighbor for a birthday drink down at one of the depressing franchise restaurant chains but I’ll be back on later.
I hope you’re doing well TRex. Not sure they make a flex-tab the size of a basketball for you but a bucket of the m&m sized ones might work.
Welcome Lurkers, come out come out wherever you are
Welcome all.
If anyone from China is lurking.
Looks like the plunge is beginning again.
See what uncle Dow says tomorrow.

OK. I’ll bite. I’ve been a lurker here for a year or so and have enjoyed it. I post once in a while at Dkos or BT. But I’m a very minor figure. Haven’t even been banned by Dkos. :-)
I have one question about the Libby trial. There was a case “sealed vs sealed” (06cr00128) on the DC District Court Docket since Spring 06. Has it been unesealed yet? Any idea if it’s related to Plamegate or not? Any chance it could be Shooter?
One last thing….the belle comes from my middle name…my grandma was a Texan. Way back, years ago when I started reading political blogs, belle was already taken. At that time it seemed like few women were reading so I went for the most feminine name connected to me. Not typical at all for my behavior. I added a 1 just to keep the stem.

No narcotics for this dino. They don’t agree with my system.
And welcome, belle, and virgotex, and angelina and everyone!
Hooray!
Who wants a drink?
quake @ 21
Many, many, many of us have scratched our heads in puzzlement over “Sealed vs. Sealed”. My personal private theory is that it’s Rove being indicted on a whole other set of charges.
trying to make dinner…so better hold off on the drink. Though this continued waiting sure could make most of us want a whole lot of ‘em.
Oh, god, I am starting to love my heating pad with an almost unhealthy intensity.
Delurking to say hello and much more importantly thanks to the whole FDL crew. I don’t know what I’d do without it.
Wow, I get to come out again? I felt good for a couple of years after the first coming out (then I got jaded). I’ve been reading here for about a year and have posted a couple of times. Just wanted to say now how much I’ve enjoyed the intelligence and knowledge (and snark) in the postings and also the relative civility of the comments section. Seems like so many other blog’s comment threads instantly turn into pissing wars.
The only burning question I have on this snowy MN night is this: What is an occasional table the rest of the time? It’s been bugging me…
welcome quake!

The lurkers may go to bed early, hence not many here tonight.
Welcome all lurkers!
I’m an “irregular” commenter myself, but this place is great! And for us Plameaholics it can’t be beat for up-to-the-minute commentary (and some great snark, too).
TRex…Epsom salts in a hot bath. Soak as long as you feel like it.
TRex,
I know a 35-foot Triceratops who is a Reiki massage master. Should I send him over? Massage and baths much better than drugs for back shock from using muscles you didn’t know existed. That happens in dinoyoga.
I guess if the rest of the sauropods had discovered yoga 70 million years ago, evolution might have taken a different path.

Fer gawd’s sake, don’t roll it up.
I followed a Jane link from HuffPo at the start of the trial.
Hi!
TRex! Thanks for the invitation to ask questions! Being as how I’ve been following FDL for quite some time with bona-fide lurker credentials, and being literarily (right word? real word?) minded, I was intrigued by a mention somewhere about your fiction (I think?) publications & have not been able to track them down, other than a co-author credit w/PZBrite. Tried to inquire by email, but it must have been outdated.
So, any clues to how we can track down the printed musings of the estimably-linguistic-powered TRex?
hi
i…i…. yes, i check here everyday, several times, reading, becoming re-invigorated, daring to hope, even checking now, at 11:20, hoping that the guilty verdict…..i mean, the whatever verdict has come in somehow (like checking the desk drawer for the fourteenth time for keys that just arent there).
thank you for kicking ass with your coverage of sleezebaggate. and for inviting me to delurk. i…i….
hold me…..
Trex – Sounds like a muscle spasm. Have you tried stretching it out? Sometimes that really helps. Sit on the floor with your feet straight out in front of you and stretch your right arm to your left toe, then your left arm to your right toe, then both arms to both toes.
This stretch was my doc’s advice and for me it really helps lower back muscle spasms.
Does anyone know where Marcy is? She hasn’t told us about her conversation with Fitz yet. I’m afraid to go to bed for fear I’ll miss it, but I can’t stay up all night cause tomorrow may be V Day. Maybe she went shopping with Jane?
Anything at all? OK – dude, what’s up with this (N. Koreann nukes)?

I got linked over to FDL about 18 months ago while gobbling up the slim pickings offerred by the MSM and the Internets about the Plame Investigation.
The fact that an ex federal prosecutor (regardless of ideology) was sharing insight was of value to me. Also, I still am not sure even now why this action by the government (the outing) has so compelled my ire and interest. That it has done so to others has offerred me some comfort and relief from loneliness.
The above describes my pretrial interest in the case. The fever of interest here since the trial began has compelled me to share and ask with the community for the first time. My comment @#6 above, “WOW,” is because I usually don’t get one in before #206. I’m getting better. Anyway, this is all new to me and I express gratitude to those who have welcomed myself and others in.
I’m still mostly a lurker, and a very occasional commenter. My first comment was on the night of the SOTU, although I’ve been reading this blog long before that. FDL is like a safe haven for me because it is so cool to be in the company of so many like-minded people. I love to read the musings of the regulars in the comments (you all RAWK!) and I have learned so much from all of you. And I give many thanks to Jane, Marcy, Christy and Pach for the live blogging of the Libby trial (as well as a few chunks of change to the tip jar!) – without that live blogging I probably would never know as much about this case as I do now. Long live FDL!
I thought Egregious was a girl?
Hi. I’m working days, which doesn’t normally take me completely out of commission like this as far as blogging is concerned. But I’m still trying to move forward–baby steps, anyway–with the Independent Bloggers’ Alliance site.
Added a little blurb to the “About” page. Like I said, slowly plugging along.

egregious with a small e is… Are they different posters?
I am a great believer in ice rather than heat in the first day or two. The muscles are all inflamed and the best thing is a little rest and ice or cold pack or a bag of frozen peas. And maybe an “Aleve” pill or two. Works pretty good. I am old and my body rebels often so I know the routine.
Love the FDL site. The best and most informative for all things Plame….and most other political stuff. I made it to the Libby trial twice. It did not disappoint. Just as this site does not disappoint.
Take care of the back. Ice it!
TRex @ 24
As private theories go, that’s a good one. Anyone who knows what it is, isn’t talking; anyone who claims to know what it is, is guessing. Even connecting it with the Plame case is speculation. Informed speculation, with some circumstantial stuff on which to base it, but speculation nonetheless.
And TRex, I’ll have a single malt scotch. A 16 year old Lagavulin would be nice — Neat.
dglen @ 36
Right now the only thing I can think of that would be easy to find is “The Curious Case of Miss Violet Stone” in Shadows Over Baker Street. I was just happy to be in the same anthology as Neil Gaiman.

I’ve, errr, known fellers like that…
I usually lurk, but do post sometimes.
I realized today I am addicted to FDL… I was here today waiting with the rest of you and I really needed to get to the post office to see if a check had arrived that I was expecting.
It took all the strength I could muster to pull myself away and actually go out. I was gone exactly 30 minutes and came right back here as soon as I got home. (The check was not there.)
So I my have a breakdown if I have to leave again tomorrow if we don’t get a verdict before noon.
Wow…. I don’t have an addictive personality… really, I don’t. :)
Just coming up from my alwayslurking to let T-rex know how much I enjoy his posts, especially when he’s goin’ in for theKIIILL!!
If it wasn’t for this blog(and a few select others)my constant stomach turning probably would have killed me long ago.thanks to all of you for all your hard work and energy. What a great community is here!
just one thing, though–where can i get a”proud Firepup” bumpersticker?
Hi TRex and thanks for the de-lurk invitation.
I jumped in the Lake at the beginning of the Plame trial and am rapidly becoming a regular lurker, er, reader… I’m a sculptor living in northern NM… working in cast glass and bronze media.
I really appreciate the intelligent, well-written posts… altho I admit I was a bit taken aback one evening when you called some Repub shill a “genital wart”…! Then I laughed.
But STDs aside, I think that the Libby trial and whatever fall-out ensues (please God!) is the only hope for redress and airing of the lies that Bush et al. used to get us into the war.
Which leads me to my first question for the esteemed swimmers here:
AFter the first day of the trial, ALL of the talking heads were actualy speaking the word “impeachment” for trickie Dick II… Then there was the state of the union the next night, and no one has mentioned it again… that I’ve heard.
Did all of the corporate media reps get their revised “talking points” that excluded the word impeachment? Is there any hope of the whisperings coming back? What do you guys think? Thanks…
Thanks, T! I have a mission now and shall report back to you. (I agree about Neil G. –Pretty good company.)
For you Plamalcholics here is a fix to get you laughing by Fiore:

Loved you in Raiders Of The Lost Ark! ;>)
Hi – I actually de-lurked myself briefly earlier today in the comments to one of Marcy’s posts. Now that I’ve been invited, I’ll do it agin. I have been a political blog addict for a couple of years now, and have been trying to cut back. I was making some progress until FDL’s live-blogging pulled me back in worse than ever. I’m an ex-lawyer, and clerked in federal courts for a couple of years. Until this trial, I never could have imagined wanting to be a prosecutor. But this Bush crew sure needs some serious prosecutin’. (By the way, earlier today there was a discussion about the on-line gambling odds for a guilty verdict. Is there a line for whether a Scooter conviction will be flicked away by a friendly appellate court, or a pardon?)
I’ve really been enjoying the posts, the comments, the whole vibe here. And Mr. Rex, I really enjoy your snarkosaurusly delightful writing.
An occasional lurker who greatly enjoys the site. Have posted once in a great while on ESCHATON, but nothing of any great import. Thanks for keeping us all informed.
Hi, I’m Chuck, I’m an American but I teach German at the University of Tennessee. I, too, lurk once in a while, but I have to say that I’ve always found the motto at the top of the blog puzzling, almost unnerving, probably because I don’t quite understand how it relates to the content! LOL – But that’s just my own stupidity.
However, I really, really appreciate the work y’all are doing on the Libby trial, and I always smile when some of those major publications out there that spend so much time knocking blogs refer to FDL for the latest and most accurate assessment of the day’s events. Keep it up!
Auf Wiedersehen!

So, I got laid off today, effective tomorrow (7 of us, a 10% RIF because Medicare is pulling a bunch of our contract funding at a time when we are already way over budget). Now, frigging tomorrow morning I got my exit interview, and I betcha anything the jury will come back while I’m doing that.

Well whaddaya expect, TRex… Therapods like yourself should stay far away from Yoga classes. You’re so ill-suited for them! No WONDER your poor back is strained, having to fold those pathetic tiny forelimbs into your “lap” (and I do use the term advisedly) while crossing those mighty legs and saying “OMmmmmm” — and you don’t even have enough lips in front of those formidable incisors behind which to produce the Mmmm sound… Let this be a lesson 2 U — imho best stick with munching tasty hypocrites and stay away from Eastern mysticism. :) :)
Hope U feel better soon!
Based on Wolverine’s excellent start on “The Wrath Of Big Patrick Fitzgerald” that we adapted from Gordon Lightfoot’s original lyric of “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” … some FDLers seemed to like it…
SteveAudio@65: Thanks. And I used to be married to the former governor of Virginia, George Allen.
Trex::: it sounds as if you have pulled a muscle in your back;
so relax, lots of heat and sleep , and in about a week you ‘ll be fine.
No abrupt movements and no heavy lifting; and i am sorry to say ,
no yoga right now. The pulled muscle will heal up but it does take time; robaxacet is the over the counter drug of choice for some; i don t bother with it ( this sort of thing happened to me when i moved a credenza by myself). Take care.
SteveAudio @ 61
It really depends on the underlying cause. If you just need to get the initial inflammation and pain lessened in order to stretch and work out the muscle, it’s a godsend. If there are other forces at work causing the muscular inflammation, then it’s just a temporary fix (albeit a good one!)
So sayeth the bdu (on 800mg ibu myself)

TRex,
Yoga injuries can really sneak up on you. About 3 years ago I hurt both knees pretty badly in yoga class. Like you, I felt nothing at all during the class, was feeling good actually. Came home and sat at the computer for about an hour, got up and I could barely walk. In fact, couldn’t walk normally for 2 months after that.
I think the lesson I learned is, don’t push it. And be careful out there, people!
notes from a physician and chronic pain patient [the same guy]:
After years of heating pads [which felt pretty good if I could keep them from burning my skin off], a nice lady message therapist smiled and said, “wrong!” She sent me to the hospital supply store to buy two cold packs [the very big kind]. She said, “Put a towel on top of it to protect the skin, and when it runs out of cold, swap it with the one in the freezer.” It not only treated the symptoms, they cleared up a lot faster. There are all kinds of medical reasons why they work a better than heat, but the explanations are just lofty words wrapped around a great mystical truth.

Thanks for the tip. The Dow will likely follow suit tomorrow. Maybe a favorable computer glitch this time will help prevent a bigger slide. Does that AJ link consistently provide Chinese stock market information?

Hrmmm. I was told no heat for a spasm of this kind, that the muscles are already inflamed and contracted and cold would make them contract even more.
The heat really is helping. It’s downright delicious, actually.
I just thought of something. February is ALWAYS one of those months that seem to go on forever. Tomorrow is March 1. I’ve been waiting for this trial to get to verdict, waiting for work things to move on my husband’s side, waiting for my daughter’s college decisions etc, etc. LOTS of waiting. Now that February is over can we PLEASE have resolution.

sometimes the old ways are best
Yoga is the best thing that ever happened to me! But it can really fuck you up. No doubt your yoga teacher has said: Listen to your body.
Sometimes I have to ignore the yoga teacher because my body says not to go there. Maybe someday but not now. (And I’ve managed a lot of somedays since I started ten years ago.)
Anyway, Firedoglake’s one of my regular stops in the blogosphere; looking forward to seeing Scooter in chains!
TRex – When your back goes out like that take anti-inflammatories (like Motrin) and get an icepack on it immediately – on: 20 minutes, off: 60 minutes, on: 20 minutes, etc. You can switch to the heating pad later, but initially you want the ice to get the swelling down. When you lie down, go flat on your back with 2 pillows under your knees to push the small of your back down flat. Avoid the exercise until you’re healed. Walk briskly instead. Best excercise for a bad back is walking. You can also do stretching excercises to strengthen it – try to strengthen your stomach muscles because those are actually what’s supporting the back (and it makes you look good too). Sitting is the worst thing you can to your back. If you have to sit, get up and move around frequently. When you bend over, especially to pick something up, use your knees. Never bend at the waist. Trust me on this, please. This is what any doctor will tell you. Take care of your back or it will plague you the rest of your life. Take care and be well.
Ooh, a coming-out party! Pity I can’t do that here at home….
I’m long a fan of TRex, Jane, Christy….and punaise, and, and, and.
Y’all make my night at work so much more interesting. Thank you all!
BobbyG @ 70
Sorry about that. Maybe somebody from here could ring you up, if the verdict comes in.
Hola everyone! I’ve been reading avidly for months and posting occasionally for a few weeks now. As it happens, dreamingcrow is a friend of mine IRL, so I was delighted to see her here. I also recognize a couple names–phoenix woman and paul lukasiak–from back in Table Talk days.
TRex, some non-narcotic things that might help are:
–ibuprofen or naproxen (anti-inflammatories) instead of tylenol
–alternately you could take several capsules of turmeric, which also acts as an anti-inflammatory (but doesn’t have any pain-relieving abilities)
–a hot bath with 1-2 cups of epsom salts dissolved in the water (but be ready to stumble directly into bed ’cause it’ll knock you flat)
–a nice big dose (1000-1500mg) of calcium, which acts as a muscle relaxant
–alternate heat with cold; believe it or not, unless you put it on your bare hide it’ll feel good

Okay, I’m delurking. I discovered FireDogLake through Huffington Post. My question is where did the name FireDogLake come from?
Also, TRex, I agree with everyone who suggested ice first before heat. Here are the rules of healing injuries that I learned in my running group: R-I-C-E. Rest, ice, compression, elevation . . .
Oh, and TRex, I’m feelin’ ya on the back pain…lots of kind people have posted some great suggestions tonight, and I hope you find the right combo to give you some relief!
A hearty thank you to all for some of the most interesting, informative reading around. FDL gives me the adult conversation I craved when my children were young. Now that I’m caring for a dear little grandson during the days, nap time finds me immersed in the latest post.
I will be the devoted reader, appreciating the sharp, loving wit, humor and insights that characterize FDL.

De-Lurking only to say… Wow! The liveblogging of the Libby Trial was the finest example of what can be achieved when intelligent people come together with a new medium. I’m thinking you guys may have set off a wave of ideas through the web-o-sphere. Innovative!

SteveAudio @ 61
I second that. I herniated a disc and after I stopped the pain killers (made me dopey) and the special 5-day anti-inflammatory, I recovered with a combination of physical therapy and Motrin (bigger than average doses, I must note). After five weeks of intense pain (I couldn’t stand up straight), the pain went away and I was discharged at the end of week six. Motrin and physical therapy — no surgery. If the pain persists, go to the physical therapist.

My turn to ask a question (more of a comment really, but I’ll phrase it as a question), though I’m far from a lurker: Pat Summitt as a UT cheerleader?
Hi
I’m an English expat in Australia, so I have been reading a whole day’s liveblogging each morning (terrible for getting the day’s work done, but I join the chorus of praise for the team: not just for the brilliant liveblogging, but for the analysis and digressions), and I’ll find out that Fitzmas has arrived long after you guys do (which is an odd feeling, because we have Christmas a whole day before youse). I’ve read FDL for ages, but I rarely comment, since I’m not a participant (although I think your outcomes will affect us all, one way or another). I heart TRex though. It’s time for teeth and claws. The other side has been using them for years, and letting them set the agenda has put America, and the world with it, into a bad place.
Hmmmm, I see Kirk Murphy is still here, but I’ll try again anyway.

Could be, maybe not. Turns out the GJ that issued the Libby indictment was also meeting on the Abrahmoff Scandal. So perhaps it is a sealed indictment on that, or another case.
In favor of it being related to the Plame case…most of the Abramoff conspirators have been decloaked…although we must remember that dear Jacky offered to cooperate with the Feds. So he might be squealing like a stuck piglet…much like our darling Scooter Flippy will soon be doing!

Hi pups -
Ibuprofen and other NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs – Alleve, Motrin, etc) can be very effective in relieving pain from inflammation. These drugs appear to work through the same mechanisms as does aspirin.
Like aspirin, the NSAID’s can irritate the stomach lining: eating them with a few crackers and some fluids can help prevent this.
For people taking lithium – the NSAID’s increase lithium blood levels.
For people taking “blood thinners” (anti-coagulants): the NSAID’s can further thin your blood, and make bleeding more likely.
For people with a surical prcedure in the next week: NSAID’s/asprin make you slightly more likely to bleed.
Please call your surgeons’/ radiologists’/ dentists’ offices to see what they want you to do before the procedure/surgery.
If you take NSAIDS/aspirin daily as directed for arthritis or other chronic conditions, please talk with your doc’s office if the surgeon wants to stop the NSAID – they can help with alternatives to pain control.
(Assuming the docs/nurses have the time to return the call – and this is not a slam. It’s a sympathetic admission.)
Hey y’all. I delurked just today! But I’ve been refreshing the site every 20 minutes for the last few weeks.
I love the Fitz love. It tickles me that he graduated from the high school I went to 21 years before I did.

BobbyG, so sorry about the employment news, man, but now you’ll have more time for spanking Gators!
Just delurking for a moment. I have been a recovering blog commenter since breaking the serious jones I had for Howard Dean. I find NOT posting to be the only way to have a life – I can keep up with my favorites by skimming the front pages and the comments. If I start conversing with the fine folks I could be lost again.

Thanks for all the back advice, guys. Right now I am on a cocktail of Tylenol and Alleve. I’ve got ice packs at home and will try them once I get there, since you guys are all of an accord on that.

Hey EvilDrPuma: Could you be the same Doc from the SmirkingChimp? I miss the old days of TSC, and now love to lurk around here and a few other places.
Welcome everybody and very nice to meet you!
Ice first, TRex…
Sorry BobbyG.
g’nite all.
TRex, the delurking suggestion is a great idea. I now from my stats that people are reading my Libby posts…but from the paltry amount of comments on TalkLeft, one would never know it. It’s like I’m talking to myself. I come to FDL not only for Jane, Marcy , your and Pac’s updates, but for the conversation.
Registering to comment on FDL is so easy. You don’t even have to use your real name. We bloggers need some love…to know not only that we’re being clicked on, but that you appreciate the effort.
FDL has started a movement on the Libby trial. We need to keep it going for future trials. So please do what TRex suggests… I’ll be reading as will all the other reporters and bloggers on the case. Let us know by posting here that you care.

My brother’s a great PT in a sports performance lab. He also works a lot of patients on contract. I wish I could get him to describe it, but I’ll try:
Pain receptors in the brain aren’t sophisticated enough to know whether you just twisted your ankle on a basketball court or were bitten by a saber-toothed tiger.
When the musculo/skeletal system receives physical trauma, it responds by sending fluid (inflamation) to that area. One purpose only: fight infection and save the life.
According to my brother, the fluid impedes the healing of tissue. Therefore, get rid of the inflamation asap. How? Ice, Elevate, Ibupropen.
I don’t know how this applies to the back as I’m accustomed to using it mostly on joints. You might want to do a little on line investigation.
Nooooooooooooobbbbiiiieeeesssss!! YAY! I like these posts, we always meet such interesting folks when they lose their FDL comment section virginity.

Hi, Ralph! I saw that today when you posted it and loved it!

Punaise, if you’re reading – I totally love your puns!
I’m not really a lurker…but I’ve never introduced myself…so I’ll take the opportunity. I’m an Anthropologist teaching on the Left Coast…a former alternative radio DJ (Hi Howie!)…and ex semi-pro Soccer player. Spent my teenage years living in West Africa and got hooked on the travel bug since. I do research on fossil orangutans (and other critters) in Indonesia and the Malaysian side of Borneo.
Why am I interested in the Plame case…because I see just how badly my countries honor has been besmirched by the Bush Administration and how this case in particular demonstrates just how craven and greedy for power this group of corrupt scoundrels really are. That they would dare to out a CIA agent, one who was ACTUALLY devoting her life to protecting us from rogue dictators and terrorists seeking WMD’s…and doing so using methods that fall short of invading a nation that poses no credible risk to America…demonstrates the madness of these minions.
Out spot! Out!
……and…
FWIW, I strongly agree with ice before heat. My mystical :) medical beliefs teach that “ice” (requiring transfer of thermal energy away from injured tissues) slows the formation of new molecules required for the production of the tissue response of pain and swelling the white coats call inflammation.
Lynn @ 104
Hi Lynn -
I’m glad you posted here about the truly Honorable Mayor Anderson.
As on the thread where I first erred, I apologize for my comment – no disrespect intended in my attempt at snark.
Hi Jeralyn,
I too appreciate your commentary on the Libby matters. I read a lot, but comment rarely. Don’t know why, just the way it is!
Jeralyn Merritt @ 126.
Cool! Glad you’re here. I loved the politics.tv work you did during the trial. I hope you guys continue to use that media. It works great to have a video to accompany a post.
Would it be proper to ask you, such a well informed person with professional insight, if you have a prediction of the verdict for the five counts against Scooter Flippy? The likelihood that Fitz has an act 2?
Thanks Jeralyn!
Loudoun dear, don’t encourage the punaise. We’ll all get salmonella!
Hi, I’m Kristine I usually lurk, share the snark with my work mates, and once in a while post an odd (in more ways than one) comment. Just wanted to say thanks to all at FDL for
feeding my obsessionkeeping me updated on the trial as well as enlightening me on many other things. I cannot believe the depth and breath of knowledge this wonderful group of people bring to this blog, not to mention the lively discussions of subjects serious and trivial (and oftimes hilarious.) This is truly an amazing group of individuals, and I am grateful to each and every one of you.TRex: Hope the back feels better. I’ve been there, and I know what it’s like. If I may recommend lying on your back with your knees in the air, sort of like an inverted frog, especially with heat on the offened muscles, you might find some relief, particularly after a stiff shot of “medicine” to relax you.
And Belle1, what exactly is “museum studies?” Is it a broad catagory, or do you specialize in a certain area, like art, Egyptian artifacts, etc. Sounds fascinating!

The day Keith Olbermann obliterated Don Rumsfeld in his first Special Comment, Mayor Anderson gave this speech in Salt Lake City. KO got pretty much all the attention on the blog-o-sphere (and deservedly so), but I always thought Rocky deserved a little more attention than he got.
RBG indeed!
For the newly delurked, you’ll come across one of the wittiest pun artists in the world right here in this comment section named Punaise. When he appears the thread usually takes a sharp turn toward the absurd which is always a lot of fun.

Jeralyn Merritt @ 126
Jeralyn,
I find your posts great because you maintain your intgrity to the art of defense despite your understated disgust with the actual perpetrators. When you presented on politics TV I was capttivated. You always gave credit where you saw it was due.
Speaking from strictly a patient perspective (IANA herbalist), has anyone else here had experience with pedicularis sp. extracts for chronic musculoskeletal pain?
Two herbalists (one “scientific” – one “intuitive”) suggested it in a space* of eight weeks, so they saw something.
Worked really, really well for me, but that is a patient report of one here.
Anyone else here used pedicularis tinctures?
(*more benefits of spending a week in the woods helping train and support the current and next generations of non-violent direct action activists -
people force us medics to get ourselves cared for….)
Another aspect of FDL addiction: the other day when Jane had lost her wallet and cellphone at Prettyman, I was more worried about that than just about anything else I had going on that day. Much relief ensued later that day when the items were returned to her!
I wish I had a mayor as enlightened as Rocky Anderson. Instead I have the DLC dreamboat Bart Peterson. Blech.

That said..I’m a regular poster at Bradblog.com, a moderator (sorta kinda, when I have time) for a politics/religion chatroom at Dockwave.com, and mostly a lurker when I’m here @ fdl, with only an occasional comment.
I’m also recent convert to gabbly chat (gabbly.com/firedoglake). It’s a wonderful way to talk with kindred spirits while taking pressure off the fdl server, however I would not recommend it for the faint of heart. Due to the recent “and so we wait” theme with the jury deliberating, we’ve started to get a little punchy, and the topics of discussion have been all OVER the place…remodeling…all things Fitz…fishnet stockings…Cialis commercials..white cream sauce (not as a metaphor, for actual FOOD, GEEZE, get your minds out of the gutter!)
Well y’all get the idea.
Anyway..HELLO FROM TENNESSEE!!!!
About firedoglake – I know that Jane says it’s cause she likes to sit by the fire with her dog(s) and watch the Lakers, but way back when this blog was Jane, Loren and Reddhedd just beginning, it was explained that the name is from the Scotch or Irish expression “fired o’glake.”
“fired o’glake” was explained as a way of curing a wooden battle club in an iron blast furnace, so it had a hard wooden interior with an iron exterior.
Ever since then I’ve thought that our adversaries who think that Jane is just some chick who wants to sit by the fire with her dogs and watch the Lakers have no idea with whom they’re dealing.!
I have been lurking the live blogging of the Libby trial. I’d read FDL occasionally before the trial but it fell out of circulation until recently.
I’m glad I came back.
The blogging of Plamegate has been better here than anywhere else.
And the live blogging has been particularly entertaining and quite endearing.
Thanks to the bloggers here.

That’s the first time I heard of him!
I’m from CT. and I so appreciated FDL’s effort for Ned Lamont!
I lurk all he time and post rarely even though I admire all the patriots at FDL. This Libby trial should of been the lynchpin for impeachment. But damn….
Since I can ask stupid questions tonight, I have a regular argument about Noam Chomsky with my best friend. Am I insane? I get so mad about Noam because he is so freaking arrogant and can never admit when he isn’t an expert on something and covers up with dismissive dissertation. I belive this is his biggest failing because he doesn’t listen to anyone’s opinion but his own. He thinks its his way or the damn highway. I can’t stand arrogant brilliance because in the end its just slighted ignorance.

You can be sure if the jury gets off the bus in the morning wearing casual clothes, they’ll deliberate for another day. If they’re dressed up, they’ll probably be done. Remember, they work a four day week, Monday through Thursday.
Well, I’m not a lurker. I’m an outrider to this Surrey with a Fringe on Top. I don’t always agree with the monkey chatter but the direction is a moral imperative. The major posters more or less speak for me, and I’ll come back in whenever I have something to contribute.

Jeralyn! I think that you guys will be a “slam dunk” to get credentials to live-blog the next important trial (and judging from Fitz’s closing THERE WILL BE!).
In fact, my opinion on this is that credentials should directly relate to whether the assigned media actually gave coverage to the Trial in question. If they didn’t offer moderate to extensive coverage then they should be excluded from the next trial where there are limited amount of Press Credentials available.
Maybe they should take out the bottom three slots in terms of air-time.
Jeralyn, Did the jury leave under interesting circumstances today? Did Walton talk with them before they left?

Good evening/morning everyone! I’ve been lurking since the days surrounding the Libby indictment. I found myself coming back to FDL more and more as the days wore on. From the Lamont campaign (to which I contributed $) to the Libby trial, I found FDL the place to be for intelligent conversation and great snark. Now it’s the first place I come to when I’m on the tubes. I’m addicted. ;) Nice to meet you all!
kirk murphy @ 160
Kirk, what kind of musculoskeletal pain is it? I’ve never heard of pedicularis, but it’s been about 10 years since I took my herbalist training and new herbs get trendy on a regular basis, and I don’t keep up with them all.
Depending on what the issue is, I might suggest:
–turmeric as an anti-inflammatory
–glucosamine to help repair connective tissue
–cayenne and ginger if it’s osteoarthritis, along with Omega-3’s
–calcium/magnesium as a mild muscle relaxant
–staying hydrated!
Neil @ 187
Once they get a case and start deliberating, a jury works a five day week. For that matter, the court always works a five day week. Fridays are typically reserved for motion hearings and other non-jury issues.
And give it up about connecting clothing with the closeness of a verdict. It’s more about comfort in confined spaces, and the ventilation/AC/heating thereof.
The last time I was on a jury, we had a courtroom that was quite warm (in July) and a jury room that was ice cold. When we knew we’d be in court, we dressed as loosely as possible; once we got the case is was sweater weather. Even on the day we finished.
Jeralyn – your site is a must read for me. You have so many intelligent commenters that I don’t feel I can add much to the conversation except for an occasional question. I love it.
I also enjoy BTD’s posts on your site.

Hi BurkeDem – Burke, VA?
Hi lurkers and screw gonzales
A convert to fdl since the middle of the Libby trial. Question: I must be mistaken, but I thought I saw a couple of places where jurors asked questions in the courtroom. That so?
Betcha verdict before this weekend.
TREX – Your reputation in here precedes you – I heard COMMENTS about your snarkiness before I ever read any of it.
Sorry to hear about your back. After a particularly hard day of yard work, I usually lay on the floor with the calves of my legs on the couch and a towel rolled under my neck. Gives me so much relief I usually fall asleep within a few minutes!
Oh, and lay off the wild sex for awhile – no harness chairs, no trampolines, no ceiling fans with remote controls…
Feel better hon ;-)
Neil @ 188
I thought they were working Monday to Friday (at least they did last week.) I think the only reason they were off on Fridays during the trial is because Walton had other issues to deal with. Still, my gut feeling at this point is that the verdict will come down on Friday. That, and $1.60 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

Sid58 @ 199
That’s right. According to the Legal Eagles (Christy, Looseheadprop, etc.), this is allowed in federal courts at the discretion of the judge, but Walton is one of the few that actually exercises the option. I really enjoyed watching what the jury was asking.
To keep it kosher, the jury writes the questions down and Walton reviews them. Those that are legit he asks on the jury’s behalf.

Actually, you should probably be alternating hot and cold. Hot feels so good but it acts like a magnet for inflammation. (Sadly, I’ve learned that the hard way.)

If McCain’s reception on Letterman tonight is any indication, he oughta thinking about saving his money — he got nothing from them when he talked about the war and his effort to honor the troops fell sorta flat too.

Definitely! And if only the term limits could be extended for the governor’s office…four years is just not enough. Kaine has some great ideas, and it’s a shame that he is so limited!
Another ibuprofen recommendation from PT and orthopedic doctor experience. The anti-inflamatory action actually improves the problem instead of just hiding the pain.
The ortho guy also said that now that I’m not a kid anymore, I should try the ibuprofen before the exercise to prevent the damage. When I do it, my body thanks me.
I delurked early in the trial, to admire the writing and analytical brains of the FDL crew. Every day, they continue to impress me.
Geezus I couldn’t understand more. I just keep working for the Dems and Left Independants I like to get me through. I live in a screwy HOA out here that doesn’t like the 1st Ammendment. But, I relish the chances to keep educating them on it.
Ed*ard Teller @ 223
What is NOVA? Northern Virginia?
Kestrel, but we traded in Frist for Corker. Are you old enough to remember the good old Sasser and Gore days? I’d even take Harold Baker back in a heartbeat.
Not really de-lurking; I’ve posted before. But I do have a question: Has the now-dismissed art curator spoken to any media outlets?
Also, was that really a picture of her posted on at the top of a post on FDL a few days ago? I’ve read her age and it didn’t seem to match up with that photo.
Ed*ard Teller @ 236
Yes, Northern Virginia.
Bobby, you got a link? Nevah mind.Ed*ard Teller @ 236
Sorry, yes – Northern VA, DC Metro area
But-! But-!
Dammit!
Teresa @ 235
Been quite a while, hasn’t it? Thought would be Howard Baker, right? :)
Ted #216. You should come down the road and stay with us (Pueblo), where Democrats rule, just for a break once in awhile. But vote at home; they need you.
Thanks everyone for the info on Cheney’s whereabouts. Wonder where he’ll be hiding out tomorrow. Would love to see his face when he gets the “bad” news.
Teresa @ 222
The Rite Aid that i work for sells it. Look around in your local pharmacies or even department stores in that section.
NSAIDs are good if you do have inflammation, pups. TRex you especially. The heating pad helps with pain, but the cool is best for inflamation. I have to deal with both, so i’m altogether too familiar with that. Be sure to take ‘em with plenty of water, and with food if you can. Stomach bleeding sucks.
I have some Tiger Balm. Unfortunately, the pain is right in the part of my back that I can’t reach.
This is when a dino really needs a boyfriend.
AZ Matt @ 183
WoooHooo!!
Thanks Marg!
Is the best Mexican Food I’ve ever known still available at The Whistle Stop? Any better suggestions? God I love the Green Chile in Pueblo!
Marg @ 243
TRex, thank you so much for this “coming out party” tonight. I feel more comfortable posting and conversing here with Late Nite FDL, and may I just say that your snark RAWKS!
Thank you FDL — your reporting has kept me on edge all month (and actually, all year since my curator husband bought me a laptop). I’m also in museum work, but at the library level — Hi belle 1!
Reverse Barometer @ 238
No jurors pictures have been posted and I don’t think she is allowed to talk to the press. It’s a very big nono
Kristine @ 231
Costco carries it (larges tins), also my Korean corner grocery story (small tins), also martial arts supply sotres. Comes in red (strong) and white (mild). There are some fake tiger balms, but they just *don’t* do the trick., acccept no substitutes.
Teresa @ 222
It comes in little tiny jars and lasts forever, so I haven’t shopped for it in a long while. I’m betting Whole Foods or other crunchy granola healthy places might be the best place to look. I’ll see if I can do some recon for a better answer.
And for the record, my bro is a chiropractor, he says ice for the first 24 hours, then alternating heat and ice.
Yes Montag. Sorry, I must have been think “call me Harold” instead of Howard. My brother was Chairman of our Democratic county party and he always drove Gore and Sasser around when they came to town. He really like them, especially Sasser.
kirk murphy @ 214
Ouch! That doesn’t sound like fun at all. I’m glad the pedicularis is helping.
One of the interesting things about cayenne is that, in LARGE doses (like 15 or more capsules/day) it starts blocking the chemical your nervous system uses to transmit pain messages, aka Substance P. However, working up to that much cayenne can take some doing, and should definitely be taken over the course of the day and with food!
Hi all–I’m an expatriate American living in Canada now for over 30 years. I left around the time when Nixon went down. I missed Vietnam by a hair when I drew a high lottery number. Moving to Canada was the best move I ever made, and I’ll never go back.
What really hurts is to watch my old country be hijacked by arrogant, stupid, greedy thugs who have no respect for human decency. All I want to see is Cheney in an orange jumpsuit. This Libby coverage has been fun, watching in anticipation of more subpoenas and a long overdue massacre of neocons that will amaze even thinking liberals.
Good night folks, and keep up the pressure.
Also, was that really a pictre of her posted on at the top of a post on FDL a few days ago? That was frau libby.
Thanks, ccmask.
I thought jurors were allowed to talk if they’re no longer jurors.
Good nite all.
Good evening everyone,
I’ve been reading FDL for over a year, but rarely comment. Let’s just say that I could never come up with anything as dazzling as the regular commenters, so it’s better to remain somewhat quiet on the main site.
I will admit to spending every moment lately at Gabbly, though. It’s the crack of chat rooms.
I could never say how grateful I am to the Plame House bunch for their offering all of us a seat right next to them in the courtroom.
TRex, I love your snark. I also hope that you will be feeling much better soon. I have to recommend icing as well.

ccmask @ 251
Please tell me none of the jurors are going to write a tell-all book! Please. (she wimpers)

Our drugstore also has Tiger Balm patches you can stick to your back (or wherever; just avoid, um, delicate tissue)–they’re wonderful!
Ted @ 193
Hardly! With the time zones and folks in Australia and Europe and Asia this place rocks all night. Welcome and good to see you here.
Oh, I see, your question for Jerralyn. I asked her one, too. Dang, maybe we should go over to Talk Left and actually register. Registering’s a pain the first time, but once it’s done, it’s done. Somebody downthread mentioned loveblogging the Padilla trial, too, and I wanted to ask her about that.
What ccmask says….good night all! It’s late here in EST-ville!
I drop in a couple times a day, to shift gears from the Bush admin BLM’s War On Our Public Lands.
Big news in the Interior West this week and next are the gray wolf de-listing hearings, where wolves are about to be slaughtered in large numbers again if federal protection is stripped.
I recommend trying some long gentle walks. Seriously.
Well, I stuck my toe in the lake tonight and the water’s fine. Now to bed. To dream of guilty verdicts and frogmarches.
See y’all in the AM.
Night CC! LL!
Sleep tight!

LoudounLib @ 249

Oh, oh, one last comment – hi Punaise! From a lurker who loves yer puns ;-)
Hi Dr. Zen, Patricia, Julie, and everyone, welcome!
This case gets to me, too. It’s so plainly unfair, illegal, wrong, and downright unamerican, that one of our very good operatives had her cover blown by our own side.
TRex, ice contracts the muscles and then you apply a heating pad, which allows the muscle to relax even more than if you had not iced it. Or so explained a massage therapist who cured my “frozen” neck muscle in about 30 minutes. It isn’t comfortable to have ice on it for 10 minutes, I know, but the muscle will thank you when you put the heating pad on.
Mine told me the same thing Garbo – ice first and then alternate with heat. I don’t have an injury anymore, just degenerative discs so I live on Alieve and heating pads.
I have some questions:
say there is an appeal…does that mean that Fitz will be able to introduce the evidence that was not allowable because Walton thought Libby was testifying? Is that grounds for appeal on Fitz’s part?
I have a question for the natural healers here. I have a very rare infectious disease called erythema nodosum. It causes nodules and rows of nodules to form in the third layer of skin with surrounding tissue swelling from edema related to the infections. Its triggered from physical and emotional stress and I have taken great pains to minimize those triggers but life gets in the way sometimes.
Through research and self discovery I have found that sulfur has a dramatic effect on easing these symptoms. I however cannot find a cheap, easy source for something with a high sulfuric content supplement other than SAMe which is altering my sleeping pattern in a not good way. What else could I get that has a high sulfuric content to gain the benefit from the sulfur?
Thanks HotFlash!
HotFlash @ 262
hey thanks, LoudounLib. so many others suffer in silence.
FiniFiniTOOBZ! @ 274
Dick Cheney?
TRex – Thanks for the invitation to get me off my ass and actually comment rather than read. I have been enjoying your writing for a while now. My nightly ritual is to read your Late Nite FDL post before I head off to bed.
I hope your back recovers quickly. I have the same problem on occassion, and it blows.
queeniesdaughter @ 273
Both excellent questions that I don’t have the answers to. If someone can’t answer this with authority before morning, we’ll have to pass it on to the courthouse crowd.
There’s more than one way to get through the winter. You can always try outdoor snow yoga, practiced here in the Midwest by torpid snow primates.
Punaise — have you by chance read “Callahan’s Crosstime Saloon” and it’s sequels? Because every time you post (and I grin) it reminds me of those great books and Punday Night.
queeniesdaughter @ 273
Fitz cannot appeal if he loses, only defendants can appeal convictions. As for the evidentiary stuff I don’t know but I do know that if Fitz’ charges dont stick, we’re done with the criminal investigation and Libby gets away with it.
Is that grounds for appeal on Fitz’s part?
not a lawyer, but I don’t think the gov’t can appeal – that would be double jeopardy
thanks trex … and all… no matter what happens I think that the fact that little ole me has questions like this means that we have already won since we have learned so much b/c of this case
Ted #248,
Whistle Stop’s gone, as far as I know, but Nacho’s, The Mill Stop, Mi Ranchito, El Valle, and my favorite for pork and avacado burritos smothered in green chile or their giant guacamole appetizeer: Jorge’s at 1319 E. Evans. So much green chile, so little time. Mill Stop’s good for sopapillas.
Now I’m hungry and they’re all closeed for the night Look what you did to me!
Neil@188 – Trial only goes Mon-Thurs. Jury deliberations are five days a week. Most trial judges do not run trial on Fridays, they use that day to catch up on paperwork and hear motions etc. that don’t involve juries. I’ve taken some grief (which may turn out to be well founded) but I have never experienced the “jury dress syndrome” that is so actively bandied about. Now, if they knew they had a verdict but the judge wouldn’t receive it until the next day, that might be different.
Pat@191 – There is gossip about the way the jury left today, but the best evidence I have seen simply indicates that Judge Walton had a meeting he needed to get to, therefore was not going to be available for a jury question or verdict return even if it happened and, being late in the day, sent them home. If this is not the case, we will know immediately first thing tomorrow morning.
Garbo @ 282
that’s new to me – I’ll check it out – thanks!
punaise @ 283
Exactly, that would be double jeopardy. The only time a government can try a case more than once is if there is a mistrial called in the original hearing of the case.
What makes me so very, very pleased with the Plame House crew is how you’ve shown through example that there’s a place in the media room and courtroom for bloggers. The wrong people getting this opportunity could have messed it up for those who hope to follow. Luckily you were the right people. I love the notion that the MSM feels you nipping at their heels (or is it vice versa by now?). It might shape them up.
Madison Guy @ 281

double jeopardy

Welcome Dreaming Crow -
Hope today went as well as could be!
I read a at least 8-10 blogs daily [drives my lovely wife nuts], but have just begun leaving comments on a few within the last week. I must say this is no doubt the blog with the most cohesive sense of a real community, not to mention the quality of the discourse herein. You’ll be hearing from me again soon.
PS I find Jane HOT, HOT, HOT. Thanks to all of you for what you do.
queeniesdaughter @ 284
Ripples are going to move outward from this point in so many unexpected ways and directions. I do feel like what has been accomplished here in this trial is honestly historic. This is citizen journalism, literally, not in some histrionic Malkin sense, but in an actual, real-world, erudite, excruciatingly well-informed sense.
I shudder to think what the Wingnut copycat version of this is going to look like, cos you know they’re just going to HAVE to try to top us. The trouble is that to do what Jane and Christy (and they are ultimately the nucleus of this atom) did with this case, you have to be:
a. intelligent
b. organized
c. diligent
d. rigorous
and
e. ethical.
None of these qualities have been found by scientists to be naturally occurring in the Domestic Wingnut Blogger (dickheadis delusionaira), so their spectacular failure is assured.
Still, it’s like making sausage, right? You don’t really want to have to watch it happen.
kirk murphy @ 298
Thanks, kirk. It did, actually. It was very emotionally draining, but helpful. I really could have done without the rehashing of all of the bad moments of my son’s life, but he’s in a place where it seems he will get all of the help that he needs.
All you folks with aching backs: ThermaCare heat patches are amazing. I’ve had two back surgeries and wear some titanium in my cervical spine. Mostly I’m fine, but when pain hits, it really hits. And the only thing that helps me is ThermaCare. No switching from ice to heat; just ThermaCare, which I wear for 8 hours or more. Can’t recommend it enough. I’ve given it to people who later told me how much it helped them, too.
Damiana @ 262
Ah yes. My sensei used to warn incoming whitebelts to always use the washroom *before* applying Tigerbalm.
a shout-out to Dreaming Crow!
queeniesdaughter @ 293
The debate during the initial investigative Grand Jury phase centered around your first question here. If Fitz had found evidence to support the more serious outing a covert agent charge, he would have tried that charge instead of this lesser lying to a grand jury charge. A lot of us were upset that Libby WASN’T charged with the outing of a covert agent charge.
As for the other question about establishing grounds for further charges against Cheney…who knows. Only Fitz knows what he is doing. I am in the minority opinion here, thinking this trial is it. I personally do not think he is going after the VP like a lot of people hope he will do. I’ve done a lot of reading elsewhere about Fitzgerald’s background that leads me to believe he won’t take it there.
I am a brand spanking new lurker. Have been for only a few days thanks to a NYtimes.com article.

again be patient please and thank you so much… walton said he possibly wouldnt have ruled the way that he did if he knew libby wasnt testifying – what recourse does the govt have? This has been a blast. I know that during the day, so much is going on, and my access to the internet is sporadic at best, so I always feel like I’m one step behind, especially during these heady days of Jury Watch. Time for this tired Firepup to crawl into bed. Tomorrow is another day of keeping vigil by the computer. Thanks again to all of you who put your hearts & souls into this effort, as well as those who post and/or lurk. I’m proud to be part of this community. We are indeed a great band of Patriots.
FITZ! (I just had to say it.)
G’day from the Antipodes. It’s the middle of the afternoon here (37 C in a Broken Hill summer), so I’m not getting much work done. Thanks for the invitation to delurk: FDL has now become my favorite way of trying to keeping up with what really happens over the pond.
Would someone tell Cheyney that he left his dog here last week? Small, noisy, yaps when addressed as “Little Johnny” …it’s just that it’s starting to drool and slaver, and we don’t have rabies over here, so we’ll have to shoot it and examine it’s brain (…I never realised that rabies could be rectally transmitted).
As far as the back goes T-rex…have you thought of applying a dog to it? We can send our prime-miniature if it might help. And a fork.
Love,

Whoever gets Tiger Balm as a result of this thread… just take it easy with that stuff. I once (in my younger, more athletic days) overdid it on my arm… fell asleep… not a pleasant experience when I woke up.
Dude, the secret. I’ve got to go make love to my wife in a couple minutes here.
TRex @ 300
The market share most likely to savor the “wingnuts make sausage” film niche would be expected to dwindle…
until all the wingnuts were in casings.
And then the domestic audience for snuff films would be gone -
every last wingnut link,
salted away and on ice.
True confession:
There have been times through this whole thing when I have been absolutely terrified that I was going to end up being the fly in everybody’s ointment. Especially during the Bill Donohue fracas. I just knew that at any minute, right in the middle of all the great coverage we were getting, someone was going to pull out something I wrote (especially back when I was getting started) as a means of trying to bring down everything that the site has built over the last couple of years.
There. I said it. I’ve been scared that I was going to somehow ruin everything for the whole team.
So far, so good.
TRex @ 113

i thought his mo was to start small, flip and go for bigger fish? do you have some links I can read (insomnomaia, sigh)
Well, now that i have read more, i see that Peterr totally clocked me on the speed of my last not so brilliant answer attempt!
FFTOOBZ and Queeniesdaughter – If Libby appeals anything, Fitz can cross-appeal anything that was not part of a not guilty verdict on a particular count. Since most all of the evidence applied to all the counts, this pretty much opens the door for Fitz to appeal any evidentiary issue. As for retrial, which could/would occur in the event of any counts on which a mistrial is declared, which is what happens to counts on which there is a hung jury, and also for any counts that are returned to the court after an appeal, the prosecution (Fitz) is NOT limited by the evidence that was introduced at this trial. In short, the evidentiary portion of any retrial may look far different on the part of both the prosecution and defense.
Squirrel2634 @ 310
HA! If being knowledgeable on subjects here was a prerequisite you wouldnt see half of us that do comment here. I’ve learned more from this site by commenting and asking the questions I ask of others precisely because I did comment and asked stuff.

Well, I can’t turn down this most GRACIOUS invitation to de-lurk! Even if there are close to 300 comments thus far. :-)
Goodness, I have been a lurker on dkos for a couple of years (!!!!). Have visited here a few times. But with this trial? I hit this site a few times a day (I try to not linger on the site to save the bandwith). I have read every live blogging transcript for the trial. Madness, Madness, Madness (shall we produce a movie on that theme, folks?)
Basically, I see myself as being totally committed to FDL. I am a woman, and ya know, we need to hold our place in the debates of these times. When it comes to stepping up to the plate, the FDL hotties have shown the ENTIRE blogosphere how it’s done. Touche!
But ALL DAY, I have wanted to know about this chat between Fitz and Marcy. Or was it with Jane? Eeeek. They were both posting under Jane’s login…. so the mystery is even thicker, darn it. I will check earlier threads tonight to see if light has been shed on this very important ‘must know’ topic.
I have loved the commaradarie and intellect that is exuded on this board! Gee… feels good to de-lurk. I will probably post tomorrow. When the VERDICT IS IN!!! (God let it be decided tomorrow).
When I see anyone on here give a h/t (hat tip), I SWEAR, I see Marcy and Jane and Christy and the rest all wearing funky 1940s hats with an index card stuck in the rim that spells out PRESS. Frankly, I think all bloggers should wear PRESS (for the peoples) hats! From now on. Do y’all know how many ‘paid’ journalists have had to refer to this site just to do their stories? Bastids.
Sorry this is so long. It feels so good to post. And trex was sooooooooo kind to nudge so many of us to de-lurk. (Thank you!)
So, comrads, how do we turn this whole awful mess around? (as in… everything radically right that is happening). Cause activism on steroids is a requisite, methinks.
Peace!

This might help elucidate the question: Who is Amanda-basher Bill Donohue?
queeniesdaughter @ 331
That has been his MO in mafia cases in the past and in other high profile far reaching cases. But what has been lost in all the love for Fitz around here is that he has some long running ties to senior Cheney Administration folks. I will see what I can dig up real quick for you to read links wise but these are things I looked into a while ago so I will have to do some serious Googling.
bmaz @ 332
Thanks for clarifying that, I wasn’t sure how to answer that part of her question. And again, I’ve learned something new here. Gracias!
Hi to all you de-lurkers – I’m a former lurker who has crawled out from under my rock, and although nowhere near as smart and edumacated as most of the folks here, I’ve learned so much about not just the law but the way our whole system works because of this site and the amazing people on it. I’m a fan of all here, front-pagers, legal experts, livebloggers, gabblers and commenters. It’s a great community.
Now I’m hooked through the bag. It’s really embarrassing. But in a good way.

Coffee…Third Place…March?
QD@339 – well i suppose you could look at it that way, but the only reason Libby would appeal is if he has been convicted. So, if I’m convicted, I’ll take my chance on a retrial rather than just take the conviction and trudge off to jail. There may be cases where a defendant wouldn’t appeal for fear of things getting worse, but this isn’t one of them.
Hi! I enjoy this site!
Hi Everyone.
FDL’s connections with the Land of Orangeness that initially got me here. But in the last month or two, the good posts and smart interaction has turned me into a big fan and every day reader.
It’s not that I’m generally quiet, but most days, I’m content to read.
I live on the east coast and have always been a news junkie. My first job after undergrad was as the news director of a radio station. So, I love being able to read the up-to-the minute developments on-line.
The commnity here is the thing. Thanks to everyone who makes this a great place.
De-lurking for the moment to wish Jane continued good health (should have done so ages ago) and to commiserate with T-Rex as I pinched a nerve in my neck within the past 5 minutes (Gads – that smarts). Thanks to all for an excellent blog that I read daily.
And yes, he is. Just not a particularly close cousin.
bmaz @ 358
silly me … I would worry about the money but obviously thats not the case here:)
And hi to TRex and your charming cat. So sorry to hear about the back pain. Please feel better soon!
TRex @ 328
Oh, got a little tear going..
Screw them and their chilling effect.
Kristine @ 356
KSFO loser Melanie Morgan was the WPITW tonight.
TRex, remember… ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!!!!
Or, What Would Cliff Schecter Do?
Damiana, I eat a diet heavy in garlic and onion for a different condition I suffer from – protein c deficiency in my blood. The garlic and onion improves blood flow for that, I need even more sulfur than that in my system so I really need a good supplemental to take. Thanks for the suggestion though! I eat a lot of Indian and Mexican recipes to incorporate the garlic and onions.
FiniFiniTOOBZ!
thanks … I will try “the google” too
what ever happened to google.unclesam…when I try it isnt working…but then I am typing challenged
I’m wondering if anyone can shed some light on why??? we’re not hearing much on the Sy Hersch article from the New Yorker stating that Bush is funding some of the extremist Sunni groups! You’d think that even the weenie Democrats in Congress would be all over this.
TRex @ 342
Mr. Edwards did not raise 1% of the stink he should have over this. No mention anywhere. Tchak.
Raph: Thanks for the link. Wow.
TRex, about cats and potty problems: click on my name and it’ll take you to my cat blog. My most recent post is all about how my cat potty trained me.
Having a cat that’s 19 years old means you’re doing something right.
DoverB—WWCSD…I like it.
I don’t see my hi so I’m not sure it published.. another hi and a hey in case it didn’t!
Dover Bitch @ 365
Oops, sorry, my bad. Never watch TV and blog at the same time. I think I really do need to go to bed.
Damiana @ 344
You, my dear, are a wee bit prejudiced, but thank you. I’m glad that we all survived and it looks good.
TRex @ 383
No, Melanie Morgan.
Repetition for emphasis:
BACK CARE
Use an anti-inflammatory such as Ibuprofen. If this bothers your stomach get a scrip for Lodine (300MG twice a day) to decrease swelling. These are not pain killers, but reducing the swelling will reduce the pain. Ointments (like Tiger Balm) can’t hurt unless you rely on them alone.
Apply an icepack as quickly as possible. If you don’t have an icepack use a package of frozen peas. Apply on: 20 minutes, off: 60 minutes, on: 20 minutes, etc. Later, you can alternate with a heating pad, but initially you want the ice to get the swelling down.
When you lie down or sleep, lie on your back on a firm surface (floor is good) with 2 pillows under your knees to push the small of your back down flat. Or lie on your side with a pillow between your knees.
Avoid strenuous exercise until you’re healed. Walk as much as you are able. Best excercise for a bad back is walking. You can also do stretching excercises for preventative strengthening. Also tighten your stomach muscles because those are actually what’s supporting the back. (Makes you look good too).
Avoid standing for long periods of time. And the worst thing you can do to your back is sit. If you have to sit, avoid chairs that are soft and squishy. Use a firm chair or a rocker (like JFK.) Get up and move around frequently.
When you bend over, especially to pick something up, use your knees. Never bend at the waist.
If you still have pain after 10 days of following the above, call a doctor.
I should trot out the three principles I once proposed – and have occasionally violated – for “anything goes” Late Nite humor/snark attempts:
1. never apologize
2. never explain (unless prodded, I suppose)
3. never succumb to the urge to ask out loud whether anyone “got it”.
or something like that….
RBG @ 357
DreamingCrow @ 374
*laughter* And you’re prejudiced in the opposite direction–you don’t seem to recognize just how amazing you are!
Coffee soon? My calendar tells me that although this weekend is going to be packed, next week and next weekend are still open.
TRex –
As a Catholic I find Bill Donohue more Anti-Catholic than anything Melissa or Amanda ever said. He certainaly doesn’t represent me.
Another Canadian, on the west coast – 2nd post. Great job everyone is doing around here.
I’ve been reading the blogosphere since infancy but rarely comment. Too many blogs I read everyday with so much good writing.
So some questions:
1. I’ve occasionally heard Jane was involved in the making of Natural Born Killers. Is that true?
2. Was TRex ever a commenter before he ran the night shift around here?
3. Should I have read all the questions above mine before hitting submit? All 350?
Thanks, from all the citizens of the American Empire who can’t vote, for trying to keep the man honest.
DreamingCrow @ 378
Provided that it works with my schedule, I’d love to join you!
WHAT?!
FFTOOBZ@354 – Well we can start with that Fitz was appointed by the administration. I know there are other links, but i have it on pretty solid authority from people in his sphere in Chicago that he really is a straight shooter, takes his duties obove any other considerations and, if he feels it appropriate, will go all the way to Bush. So I am not too worried about him stopping short due to political motivations. I have, however, always had a pet theory that he may not pursue certain avenues due to the fact that to do so would REALLY (as opposed to the horsedung being flung by the right) compromise national security concerns. If you believe some of the things said by Larry Johnson, Tyler Druhmiller and other CIA types, and I do, this is quite possible. Time will tell.
Damiana @ 379
You know, I know that you’re right and I still want to protest. ::sigh::
You are so ON. I will email you shortly.
dangangry @ 372
Hi back, and welcome to the lake. It’s amazing how many people here are both *really* angry and *really* nice. You’d think they’d be mutually exclusive, but I think most of the folks here are andry because they’re nice. If you know what I mean. Is there a story to your nom du blog?
What the heck is going on over here?
Must be the “fringe” 65% of America.
TRex @ 383
Melanie Morgan was wpitw
Great to see how many delurks you have already inspired. So many, in fact, that there’s no way I can paw through the comments.
As for me, I believe I have read 90 % of the posts here since the trial began (though admittedly, I’ve scarcely touched on comments and threads). I’ve commented occasionally, but own up that I would probably be a logical candidate for “lurker” category. Not for lack of interest, mind you!
It’s been fantastic having you knowledgeable and well-spoken folks as our representatives and interpreters in and out of the courtroom. The credibility you have established for the non-main streams of attending to, reporting, and commenting with nuances on the events of the day vs. the “liberal MSM” is one of the most potent outcomes of this seminal event, I would say.
LotusLand @ 380
1.) Jane was the movie’s producer
2.) Yes, as was most every front pager except for Jane and Christy. It’s how they find their best talents. Keep commenting here and you might get pulled to the front page like Eli recently was, or Peterr.
3.) If a comment section thread is over 200 I tend to only read the previous 15 minutes’ worth of comments before jumping in, but we all have our own styles.
LotusLand, here’s Jane’s IMDB entry.

This is probably EPU’d, what a lot of comments! I just got to this thread but I followed Thesaurus Rex here from Shakespeare’s Sister some time back. I live in Central Washington with Mr. Ouiski, and I’m about to take over the website of our local Dems. Am addicted to the Libby liveblogging and TRex’s late night.

I don’t comment often, but I’m here every day.
About the back pain: My back is chronically screwed up, but I found a great PT/Chiropractor/Massage therapist’s office. Three good-lookin’ guys taking turns working on my back. Ahhhhhhh . . .. Too bad it worked so well and my treatment ended.
TRex @ 313
Pleeeeease
ouiski @ 392
H ouiski,
This thread will go on probably until 8 am EST, unless TRex splits it for being too long. Late Nite usually dies down around 3 or 4am, and picks up again around 6 when Old Coastie puts on the coffee and Marion brings in the NYTimes. Then maybe Scarecrow will put up something, he’s usually around 8, and Christy might have something around 9 and then Jane and Marcy at 9:30.
So you can’t possibley be EPU’d until tomorrow morning.
wow…lot’s of fresh, foreign names here tonight…am I in the right place? doesn’t seem like Kansas…
Time for the astrology report, everybody ready?
spiderpaws @ 402
…runs up and gives Spidey a big-ass hug, the kind folks from AREA 51 know how to give.
Spiderpaws, OOOOh yeah!
Yellowdog Jim – I saw you very late in the thread comment on Max Headroom the other night. I have thought for a couple of years that we might actually be heading towards the Edison Carter model of journalism; especially with the ease and quality of video these days coupled with the internet. Sounds loopy but I really see it to some extent. AlsoI saw your This Machine Kills Fascists reference up this thread, do you post under that name at Political Animal?
bmaz @ 383
Excellent points all of them, and I think a lot of my reluctance to embrace Fitz unequivocally has been due to comments Larry Johnson has made about him before. Johnson is as straight a shooter as they come and if he has trepidations for some reason my instinct is to trust his instinct.
Also, and I REALLY hate to discuss this because of the can of worms that it entails, but I am a very mild 9/11 skeptic. I am not unhinged in my analysis of the events of that day, but I don’t buy the government version of events. I however do not believe MOST of the conspiracy theories advanced on the subject, however there are legit questions being asked in some quarters. What does this have to do with Fitz?
Fitz all through the 90s up until September 9th, 2001 was the government’s top Al Quaeda prosecutor in NYC. Two days before his office is crushed in WTC 7 he gets moved to the political corruption office in Chicago. He cleaned out his office on 9/10/01. That same day he sent an email to a colleague imploring him to stay “so that somebody can keep up the fight.”
He also has extensive ties to Rudy Guliani having served under him when Rudy was US Attorney before he became Mayor. All of these tidbits make me nervous about him.

Tylenol, I totally follow the directions and drink lots of water. Advil and Motrin I will double up on.
Hi TRex -
Hope I’m not being a threadhog….
I) Advil and motrin do the same thing. Taking both at once – let alone “doubling up” on both is almost certainly an overdose!
II) Turns out that the “label recommended” maximum dose of “Maximum Strength” tylenol will kill through liver damage in some individuals.
I used to shrink with a liver transplant team. Liver transplants are needed, but not fun. I’d rather avoid one.
For new onset pain, I’d never exceed three regular strength (325 mg) tylenol per day. [or two extra-strength (500 mg) or extended release [625 mg] tylenol per 24 day/24 hours.]
Save for helping MacNeil sell more Tylenol, there’s no reason to exceed to exceed these doses in new onset from routine injuries. Higher doses are very unlikely to help with pain – but will kill off some folks’ livers.
TRex: unlike the ofEdwards bloggers, you have wonderful warrior princesses who’ll back you 100% if ever someone tries to Donohue you. Queens as well.
Spiderpaws, can you do a horary chart for me? I want to know how the Libby trial will turn out.

Hey, did you meet our Edward Teller? He’s in Alaska.
…comin’ at ya Area 51.
Will just start by saying this is going to be one hell of a month. Two eclipses, a retrograde Mercury, Mars over in Aquarius stirring up trouble and lots of impatient and overly sensitive people. those with chart angles or planets from 7 to 17 degrees of Virgo, Pisces, Gemini and Sag, this is going to be very significant for you.
(you listening jacqrat?) And there’s more…the stock market will likely not straighten out until Venus enters Taurus on the 17th. Doors will start opening for the diligent at that time….this is just the tip of the iceberg, I could go on all night with March alone…but, heh, I won’t bore you.

Lot’s of FNG’s tonight?
sorry, sometimes I slip back into barracks-slang!
Hope you’re feeling better TRex! Pain in the lumbar regions is no fun… Anyway, I got here via either HuffPost or Kos — don’t remember which — following a link during the trial. Muchisimos kudos for all your sterling efforts in that regard. As for me, I lurk from afar: the Sultanate of Oman, to be precise, where I’ve lived and worked since 1988. It’s in the Gulf, to be sure, but far from the madness — unless and until Shrubco decides to hit Iran, in which case things might change drastically, considering the Iranian coast is but 130 miles or so due north of whence I write.
hmm…
I am pretty late to this party…
but, anyways, I have been reading here for a while… the Libby coverage really got me hooked on the quality of the writing and the depth of knowledge the posters here possess…
and I return in the evening to read TRex and his merry band of revolutionaries… and damned amusing they are
I have commented on a few threads such as Eli’s on media ownership concentration and enjoyed the lazy Sunday morning thread wit…

Greetings, Ahgoo, from near Palmer.
Yeah this retrograde has put me in the bed like you warned spiderpaws. My energy is way down and my health is a touch precarious right now with some infectious crap happening. Looks like I got a few more days to get through.
Yeah the posts not the pots but hey it’s been a long day.
Why does it always look okay on the first read? Not a Dead head for nothing ya’ know . . .
punaise @ 390
yup, it’s curtains for them..(I hope)
Trex – Oh man! If you are writing with fear of their reaction in the back of your mind, well, I pity the folks when you just let it go… (am willing to bet quite a few particularly memorable posts already qualify) It’s one of the qualities that sets us apart, we consider what other people will think or do as response to our words or actions. In this situation punaise rule number 1 is perfect.
Anyway I have an aversion to ice packs (UGH) but hitting the heating pad is a sign of the big forty..)
Great to see the folks decloak. Sometimes it’s tempting to treat the lake like a good fishing hole, never never tell anyone where a good fishing hole is. But this is really like a good band made better by the audience it attracts and introductions of new bands, opening acts brought into the limelight.
Big shout out and a sigh of relief for Dreaming Crow.
I have been seeing this in action in certain quarters already.
FFTOOBZ – Can’t answer for the most part. However, for Fitz to be named the US Atty for a district, in this case, Northern Illinois, the move would have been in the works for a long time; i.e. has to nominated, investigated and confirmed. So I’m not sure about what you are saying, but you never know anymore; can’t totally rule it out. I have never really bought the official government story either, but mostly out of the thought that they were covering their worthless, clueless incompetent arses as opposed to a grand conspiracy theory. Again, who the hell knows though.
spiderpaws @ 420
We’re not bored!
Great. Now I wish I had some of the pots.
TRex @ 444
I’m sorry. :(
They will never, ever see me sweat.
bmaz @ 443
I dont think he was officially confirmed until the end fo the process, but the timing of his departure from the NYC office is too cute. I’m just sayin, with the biggest Al Quaeda action ever about to take place, why do you take your best guy off the trail of Bin Laden? It definitely all has some sort of background connections that are not public. I just hope my suspicions are wrong for once.
Hey TRex… I have a challenge for those enormous olfactory glands of yours. There is a really nasty breed of troll over at C&L lately who’s actually started a hilarious C&L “watch” blog to get out “the truth”. He’s got severely repressed “issues” but he’s funny in a dank sort of, “oops, I let that one rot in a closed bottle in the sunshine. Don’t want to open that..” kinda way.
He’s out of Austin, TX (go figure) and his personal-trainer-fitness-guru site is pretty funny. I was wondering if you could sniff through his lip-gloss-enhanced-close-up-head-shot-laced site and give me your impressions.
Got time for a gaydar assesment? :)
Added: I have to admit… He’s pretty hot!
Al Gore, if he runs, is the only one who can beat Obama. Both have excellant charts for getting to the big chair, just wonderful aspects. Gore could take it, no question.

Thats the problem with over regulation…NY Times has an article abt board of ethics for historical researchers, everything is over regulated…I am happy to get started on when (19th century?) and why (Economic Interpretation of the Constitution anyone) but who will listen? You say (hypothetically) anything about sept 11 and people are like “Conspiracy theorist” and yer like YEAH people may have been conspiring to …maybe I should be cut off but…it seems to me…if it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck…
the thing is … you cant change the system from within if the system is rotten thru and thru but you cant get any one to believe you unless you have the “imprematur”
its a major major major major catch 22.

maybe I wasnt so clear on my trepidations about Fitz. I dont think he was part of anything. In fact I am more in line with you, thinking that if there is a government 9/11 conspiracy it is a coverup of their total incompetence. I think what makes me nervous about Fitz is that he has some senior DOJ colleagues that used to work with him in the NY DA office.
He seems to me to be manipulatable in short, and the fact that lesser charges were filed against Libby has always struck me as odd, especially knowing now what the evidence he had is. I still think he could have gotten conspiracy charges against Scooter and Shooter.
Hi, all, I’ve been lurking since ‘04, pop in to post a couple times a year.
Fini: I have a standing skepticism of conspiracy theories, those that involve more than a bare handful of people at the core. My reason? The more people involved, the more potentially flapping lips. Most people are bad at keeping secrets when those secrets involve high profile events. Too many people can’t help bragging, at least to somebody. And on the 9/11 theories, honestly, I think the sad truth is that this administration didn’t take Bin Laden or terrorism seriously. In their eyes, it was just another Clinton bugaboo. I don’t think they cared enough about terrorism, pre 9/11, to manipulate anything on that issue. Post 9/11, they only care about terrorism to the extent that it’s a convenient boogeyman to scare all the sheeple into submission.
BTW, for ibuprofen users…
Non prescription dose is 1 200mg pill every 4 hours, I think.
Prescription dose is either
400mg every 4 hours or
600mg every 6 hours or
800mg every 8 hours
It winds up being the same total amount. However, doctors have told me that taking the larger does less frequently works better when you are bad off.

One of the best parts of my job is that I get to turn about 340 college kids per year on to opera. Next month we see Gounod’s “Romeo and Juliet.”
It is freezing. Time to get under cover. Take care, all.
I know this question has been posed, and then someone says it really really doesn’t matter what the answer is.
Are the Bushies truly as dumb as posts, because they were always losers, or are they smarter thieves ripping off their own country, because they see an opportunity to do so?
Sheesh, earlier this week TRex was excited about hitting 300!
TRex @ 484
and he doesn’t clean the ‘red eye’ out of his website’s picture?
he wants to look that way?
ooookay.

Yes!

#500! It’s me! And I just wondered about that in #436!
(cue Twilight Zone theme)
Fini & others,
I love my tinfoil hat, but I think Fitz’s appointment to Illinois from his NY terrorism unit was a fairly logical promotion. I’ll confess that this is a new one for me, though.
punaise @ 488
indeed I was (call me old European)
Greetings from Holland! I check FDL 3-4 times per day. When I get up in the morning, it’s 2 AM in DC, and I have to wait until nighttime to catch your mid-day stuff. But I am glued to this trial.
With your deep expertise, could you address the question of what happens if Libby is acquitted of all charges, or found guilty of one/more charges? I mean, in terms of the strategy – does our man Fitz have the mandate to probe further, into Rove or Cheney? Will he continue to try to indict someone for leaking or conspiring to leak? Or do we all go home, Scooter goes to jail for 2 years, and then gets pardoned? Many thanks, and congratulations on the awesome work you do.
500 pots and just on Guinness
In the morning all ~ ~
Well, as usual, I’m joining the party late. Looks like the invitation to de-lurk worked, what with over 500 comments!
I’ve commented a few times, but have never introduced myself, except to sign off as “Bob in HI”, which is a clue to all you alert Firepups that I am writing from Hawaii. Thus, by the time I tune in, in the morning, y’all are ready for lunch, and by the time I’m doing my late evening wrap, and watching Democracy Now (delayed by about 12 hours), most of you are deep in sleep. So I’m always playing catch up, and getting to the party late.
I came over here to the Lake in December, eager for more news on the Libby trial than I was finding elsewhere. When I heard that you’d be live-blogging, I knew where to pitch my tent.
I’ve been politically active since Howard Dean’s all too brief campaign for president– back then I was living in Flagstaff, AZ, and became a loyal member of Democracy for America, which had a fun and active bunch in Flagstaff. I still subscribe to their email system. I moved to Hawaii in August 2004 and almost immediately took over the Democracy for America Meetup, which had been abandoned by the local DFA group during the campaign, since by then they already had a big e-mail list of their own. I’m still the “organizer,” but we’ve now merged, in effect, with Progressive Democrats of Hawaii, of which I am currently on the steering committee and serving as Secretary.
I don’t want to be long-winded about this, but I would like to share one piece of inspiration from Molly Ivins (may she live in glory forever.) About a year ago, she wrote a column on “D.C. Dems,” teasing them unmercifully for constantly running on their 49 favorite issues (and, in consequence, losing any sense of priorities.) She proposed three issues to stay focused on– Stopping the War, Universal health insurance, and public financing of elections. I proposed her 3 to our PDH group, adding one more: Impeach Bush and Cheney! Our co-chair wanted one more: Sustainable Environment, so we wound up with 5 planks in our platform, arranged neatly by the acronym S.H.I.P.S., i.e.,
Stop the War!
Health Care for everyone
Impeach Bush and Cheney
Public financing of elections, and
Sustainable environment.
This gives us a platform with 5 planks that is manageable, can be remembered, and covers most of the issues we care about. Thank you, Molly!!!
I’ll mention only one other matters of introduction: I’m nearing retirement age, which means I’m still working full time, and can’t spend as much time here at the Lake as I’d like to.
Finally, I am in awe of the FDL Plame House team, and hope we can keep them all together for the next indictment(s). And I want Jeralyn back, too! Its been too long since she’s blogged here, although she has left nuggets elsewhere in the last week.

Baying at the moon while everyone else sleeps
Totally OT, but..while watching SportsCenter, I have twice been subjected to a commercial for a sports-related video game (to whom I will NOT give any publicity) that features a Nirvana tune. I remember reading just weeks ago that Courtney Love had sold off a chunk of the band’s rights and wondering when this day would come. May she burn in hell.
Okay, gang. This is all the sitting up that I can do for one night. Thank you everyone for coming, and for “de-cloaking” as someone put it so well up thread.
There is a heating pad calling my name.
Y’all be good.
Good night.
Time for this beat bird to head off to sleep. G’night all and welcome to the new non-lurkers. Keep it up, it’s a lot of fun.
Ed*ard Teller @ 493
The best one I’ve seen in the past year was Grendel, directed by Julie Taymor (who made the film Titus, which I hated so much I left in the middle of it). Grendel also happens to be one of my favorite books.
Manon with Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazon was also fantastic. Netrebko is something else.
Off to rest the champagne another night.

Keep in mind that the big Chicago case that wrapped up with the conviction of the former Governor of Illinois, started in 1998, before Fitz was even at that office. Here’s the vital part-they got 75 convictions and zero acquitals. Eight years from start to finish. Don’t worry about this trial starting small. Fitz wouldn’t waste his time on the small stuff if there wasn’t anything to build up to.

I have a standing skepticism of conspiracy theories too, but I like to hear them just to gain insight into the other side of skepticism’s inner thought process. The thing about the 9/11 event is that, unlike JFK or RFK or other famous events with conspiracy theories, 9/11 is the only event where the conspiracy theory is the government’s story!
Are you aware Bin Laden is not wanted for 9/11 by the FBI? His wanted poster is for the Tanzania and Kenya bombings. The FBI officially does not consider him a suspect. OFFICIALLY. This is easily verifiable fact but hardly ever discussed. The FBI has no direct evidence that Bin Laden had anything to do with 9/11 and has officially stated so. I find that extraordinary in itself.
Let’s all be thinking of 5 guilty verdicts for tomorrow. Sweet dreams, everyone.
…and also let’s not forget that Saturn/Neptune opposition that was exact today. the last time we had this aspect (it’s not a regular) was in ‘71 -’72 when Nixon starting withdrawing troops from Viet Nam and there were huge war protests from the committed, something you seldon see these days (shaaaammmmmme).
Also in those far away days before some of you were born, Nixon started a little program called Operation Intercept where all packages coming into the states from Nam got sniffed or checked at the PO. Very tough on those of us receiving “gifts” from our brothers, friends and lovers in Viet Nam.
this is totally off topic and I apologize in advance but this is …

We don’t get ANY big stars in Alaska. OTOH, we did get Vivica Genaux last year in “The Italian Girl,” but only ’cause she’s an Alaskan. My wife and I try to go to the opening of the Seattle Opera the first week of August.
I heard Netrebko on the radio as Natasha in Prokofiev’s “War and Peace” recently. She is great.
Fini: Go to the top page for the “Most Wanted Turrists” section and they have this little bit of legalese:
The alleged terrorists on this list have been indicted by sitting Federal Grand Juries in various jurisdictions in the United States for the crimes reflected on their wanted posters. Evidence was gathered and presented to the Grand Juries, which led to their being charged. The indictments currently listed on the posters allow them to be arrested and brought to justice. Future indictments may be handed down as various investigations proceed in connection to other terrorist incidents, for example, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
No Grand Jury evidence yet regarding Bin Laden ’cause that would, you know, blow all their intelligence secrets n stuff.

Anyone still around tonight? I see TRex is off to bed.
SixStringSlingr @ 518
And as reasonable as that explanation sounds, you have to keep in mind this is a case they could get a judge like Walton who has top secret clearance to hear evidence and protect the secret info. The FBI does not have an active investigation into 9/11 and has stated it several times.
There are no charges forthcoming because there is no evidence. We had FBI agents combing through Afghanistan training camps for anything to tie him to the attacks after we deposed the Taliban. No evidence means no evidence. So what does that mean? Your guess is as good as mine, but it certainly is a nasty thread that if you pull at it will unravel a lot of things.
Kirk, I’m showing you @500 and Ed Teller @502. I think you got the D zed.(D=500 in roman numerals, so Super Bowl D is scheduled for July of 2567).
Eureka: total eclipse of the moon on 3/3 – 3/4…the beginning of the umbral phase is visible in the Arctic region, Africa, Europe, some of Asia etc and the end is visible in eastern North America, Greenland, Arctic, Africa, Europe, western Asia, and Queen Maud Land of Antarctica
The partial eclipse of the sun on March 19th is visible in most of Alaska, Asia and Japan and also western Russia

Hi David…
David Baerwald @ 527
David Baerwald as in half of David David, “Welcome to the Boomtown” David Baerwald? Wow, man, you have no idea how much time I spent with that record! We are honored to have you here!
Fini: I do agree with your conclusion that something is rotten at the bottom of that pile. My own personal stab-in-the-dark is that the money trails are particularly convoluted and embarassing. I’m still not ready to believe that people in our government played any role in it, but I may well end up sadly wrong on that count.
Hi all, this is my very first meta, as dailykos calls it here on FDL.
I am hooked on Fdoglake. I have affection for all of you and the tireless group covering the trial, starting with the amazing Jane with fishnets and Louboutins! Her greatness is lore around Huffpost, Dailykos, et al.
Trex, you gentle creature that I love to read.Get well soon. I learned of MMalkin, from your print and heard of her around the ‘net, but she’s a yawner….I wouldn’t bother with her. She’s a tiny spec.
and Pach, you’re awesome, thank you for your awesomeness, you’re just awesome. :-)
I’m in the San Francisco area. I’m a community activist, in marketing, and medical imaging tech.
Nice trial work to all, you are all so smart. I’m glad I didn’t have to register, that is such a chore! Thanks for making us lurkers come out of the shadows.

On that note, the first time I saw the pilot episode of the Sopranos and heard Tony Soprano say, “Sometimes I feel like I’m comin’ in at the end of things” I got a distinct shiver down my back that had nothing to do with the Mob. One of so many reasons why I love that show.
Ed*ard Teller @

if everyone does a “hard refresh” of your browser, rather than “refresh comments”, that should calibrate the numbering. I see kirk murphy at 500.
SixStringSlingr @ 541
I love that show and will miss it greatly when it goes this year. I hope they do movies after the series ends.
Ed*ard Teller @ 539

way to go Kirk.
thanks for your contributions too.
The Sopranos isn’t really about the Mob, it’s about us, the good ole U S of A. Tony Soprano is really Mr and Ms John Q. Public; the Mafia setting says volumes about what David Chase thinks about all of us. But then, I am a cynic.
Fini – Wish I had an answer for you on the sulphur question. One would think a cheap source would be available since its everywhere in abundance. My well water would probably do the trick except for shipping costs. Keep asking around, it just has to be out there. Take care.

qd, I respectfully disagree with your respectful disagreement (which I do appreciate). Fini, I remember that (bout the number). Quite the stir in the early eighties! Now I really have to turn in and, dang it, just when we were starting a Sopranos discussion. Those are so much fun! Anyway, nite all; love the site and all of you. I think we’ve all helped each other stay (somewhat) sane over the past few years through forums such as this and that alone is an invaluable service.

I’m a retired boomer who has lived in both worlds for decades. Now, I pretty much stay in flow-land, and that’s where FDL exists for me.
I was an early green elected to public office for 12 years. The bolo tie fooled ‘em for a long time. My thick skin finally disappeared, and so did I.
Immersing myself in progressive blogland has me happily refocusing my attentions. I look forward to seeing who I am when I wake up tomorrow. And I look forward to seeing who all of you are, too.

Hi everyone. I guess I’ll de-lurk. I’ve been an Plame addict for over a year now. I’m in grad school getting a degree in Asian Studies & New Media (also a doc filmmaker). Never had much time to comment, but I’ve been reading FDL obsessively for a long time. Really glad to see the recent politics-TV segments b/c it helped me to put the names together with faces. Jane, Christy, Marcy, and Jeralyn are like rockstars to me now. Trex and Pachacutec are also fantastic. I met some of the community through SF states’ roots project last year, but I wasn’t able to keep up with it do the insanity of grad school. Hope you’re all doing well.

just got back…
this may have been covered…
but in the Reclaiming pagan tradition there is no “devil”.
Reclaiming paganisim is polytheistic and animistic – a plethora of deities.
“The devil” wrongs the one True God.
[ok - I simplified.]
For Christianity (and perhaps other monotheistic traditions) “The devil” is theologically consistent.
For the Reclaiming pagans I know, there is neither a devil nor a theology with a place for one.
This is case for all the non-Reclaiming witches (witches are one group of pagans) I’ve met.
Paganism is diverse and inclusive, so I’m not claiming that all pagans are witches or Reclaiming witches.
Paganism encompasses many faiths.
People who call themselves Satanists – people who worship Satan – do exist.
I have never met any such persons, but if any are lurking here perhaps they will grab the 666 ring.
amazing snowboard video: “awesome” and “gnarly” hardly do it justice.
why is there a picture of John Cusack wearing a flowered hat at the top of this post?

okay. Now, I’ll say some more. I’m sitting here under a sky full clouds, stars, and moonlight. I’m living in a place I never imagined I’d live. I am the daughter of a refugee from Russia who first came to Canada, then to America. I’m the descendent of a refugee people, on the move through various countries in search of religious tolerance. More in next post.
ah, punaise, are you still here? You have brought so many smiles to my face. What a gift you have and thank you for sharing it with us.
(I get a giddy feeling whenever I see that you are posting!)
Hi Firedoglakers,
I’ve been lurking here for a long, long time. It used to be that I would visit all my favorite news outlets—NYT, Washington Post, BBC, LA Times—and then occassionally drop in on a blog. These days, I go immediately to Needlenose, Firedoglake, and Kos—and then occassionally drop in on a traditional news outlet!
Your trial coverage and commentary has been nothing short of spectacular and oh… my… god… ORDERS of magnitude better than anything in the mainstream press. I’m so grateful that you’re giving us the opportunity to witness this very important trial.
And TRex, I don’t know what I would do without your nightly posts. Your ranting is like the music of the spheres!
So thanks, and much love to you all.
(PS to Trex: Once when I hurt my back, a chiropracter told me to be sure to drink lots of water. I did, and the pain went away surprisingly quickly. So tank up.)
So to continue, we left America partly in despair after the 2004 election (in Kansas, the religious right regained control of the school board. It wasn’t just who was elected, but the issue that we weren’t sure we wanted to live among those who would elect (or not oppose) such fools.
Additionally, my husband works in the environmental field and that field is fairly dead.
Hi Barb! How are you? And why are you up at this hour?
just on my way out, NZ Expat. thanks for the kind words. enjoy that night sky.
how cool, nz. my husband and i have considered canada very seriously.
So (cont) having left in frustration, I was surprised with my tears of sweetness, when I had to fly back to the US in December. Seeing the coast of home, flying into San Francisco on the sunniest of December days, I found myself in tears, thinking, this is home, this is worth the fight, this is a decent place. The sun lay like honey across the hills and the Golden Gate bridge and I thought of all that is American life that is not politics.
The Plame-Wilson stuff sort of jump-started the political junkie in me, which i hadn’t felt in years, and my cynical side is loving it.
In addition to that, although I prefer to lurk, I feel I must say this: I Luv Jane’s Smile!! (especially when she finds something really provocative from the testimony)
Remember, though, I am a lurker, not a stalker. (insert evil laugh here)
Consider me de-lurked…for the time being…
I suppose this is silly of me. But 600 is so close. All those sleeping Americans and here I am, blabbing on into your night and your dawn.
But, what struck me as I was flying into SF then was of the blessed ordinariness of lives. All these lives, taking care of a dying mother, a sick child, a sad husband, all these lives, with their travails and their small joys, going about the sunny morning, this is part of what I both loved and found frustrating in America. The way that one’s preoccupations blinded one to what was happening on the national and international scale and also the way that ordinariness was what saved us as human beings in whatever sense of the eternal there is that we are a part of. (sorry, preposition at the end of the sentence.)
TRex: Your invitation is so welcoming that I’m delurking for about the 3rd time here, with a rather stellar non-forwarded EPU record, I hafta add. At 500-plus on this post, I suspect my near-perfection of invisibility will remain intact.
I have such great respect and admiration for the voices I’ve come to recognize here over the past few years: the caliber of concern, reportage, camaraderie, humor…
There was a long spell during which dKos was my main squeeze (got my yKos-1 dogtag to show it, and signed up for 2), and a really long spell helping / working through serious health concerns of friends and family that silenced my tongue in most respects except in the flesh and email and check-support when possible. That voice has yet to come back in full blog glory force.
Born in Chicago, later a Bostonian, I now live in Seattle, work from home, stay up late and get a good night’s sleep — a good combination throughout these obsessive weeks of following FDL’s historic liveblogging from Prettyman. By morning, there’s already a lot to fly through with posts and comments; must be MUCH more frustrating for everyone following on the right coast.
Whatever the verdict(s) in this first prosecution’s case of the CIA leak/Libby’s perjury/obstruction of justice, I take great heart in the integrity and tenacity of Patrick Fitzgerald and the others on the excellent Gov. team, Marcy/Jane/Christy/Pach/ FDL, and the hope that illumination of this sad event is challenging both media and lawmakers to hold themselves to higher standards.
Okay, went on too long. Thanks again for the invitation, TRex. I always appreciate your commentaries.
I just found this
What a crock.
Hi Darnassus! Where are you? I was gob-smacked at the betrayal of Valerie Plame. I thought I was cynical and yet they still managed to amaze cynical me with going further and further into the dark side. So this was my point of sanity from long ago.
as an east coast lunatic with a messed-up sleep cycle, i appreciate the soothing saga from you, nz.
not lois – where in Seattle do you live? Back in the day, I lived on Capitol Hill, the U district, Ravenna, and Ballard. I was back in Dec for a visit and fell in love all over again. If I return to live in the US, I’m hoping it will be back to the Pacific Northwest.
tj – thanks! and we made it! Yeah! a gift for TRex in the morning.
In my muddled way, I’m trying to work my way to articulating the confused feelings that I have for patriotism. I was brought up (in the Mennonite church) that my allegiance was to God’s Kingdom, before any earthly one, and repeatedly given that as the reason for the many migrations of my ancestors.
Yet, I love the land, the physical landscape of my homeland, as if it is also one of my ancestors. I grew up in Kansas, and the smell of the drying leaves of cottonwoods in October can pierce my soul with a sense of belonging.
When I was in college (Mennonite college, of course)I saw the movie, Five Easy Pieces, I saw the Pacific Northwest and I knew that I had to be there, live there.
So there is the physical land itself that I have allegiance to, as all of us do, the land which nurtured us, whose soil fed the earth that fed the food that we ate.
we’ve moved a lot in our lives, so we never attached the feeling of home to a place. but we’ve both felt the embarassment of being an american.
fdl gives me more hope than i’ve felt in a long time. much more than volunteering in the last 2 elections.
we’re not sure what life will hold for us next. medical insurance is one of our biggest concerns. but for the first time in a while, i feel like trying to stay and make the country better.
Then there are the very ordinary people, the carpenters and electricians and the housecleaners, those that work and build with their hands. I don’t think I’m romanticizing them. My father’s dinner stories were of the carpenters and the laborers that he worked with (he was a carpenter on big construction jobs) and they were the people that populated my childhood horizons. Silly stories, stories of foolishness, but also stories of courage and wit in the face of the junk that life thrust on them.
Even though I’ve earned most of my living teaching in universities, I bristle when I hear faculty complain that they aren’t getting enough, that they need more and the stupid people of the state should ante up. My father never had insurance from any job, never a paid vacation. My mother ironed clothes and cleaned houses. My loyalties are not far below the surface.
TJ – I have to come back to the States for a few months at least. Medical insurance is a big problem. We’re aiming for major medical only for me, but even so, most have huge premiums and a waiting period of about 8 months of preminums before they will cover a large number of conditions (though I know of no major pre-existing conditions).
Medical coverage in NZ isn’t perfect but I’ve never waited more than a day to see a doctor. My meds are $3 a month; in the US, after insurance, I paid around $60 a month).
TJ – where are you now?
in pennsylvania. i was in california for 18 years before health issues brought us back east to be closer to our families.
Thanks for reading me as I muddle my way to my definition of “patriotism,” TJ. What I’m trying in my long-winded way (up to 600 now ) way is to say that one can be inspired by something other than American history and the flag, but by the very rocks and rivers of the country, by the very memory of the sweat and the laughter of very ordinary people. It was the memory and the knowledge of this that made flying across the coastline of California, coming home, bring tears to my eyes.
I flew out fo a very beautiful and lovely country, one that I cherish, this beautiful island nation with its sweetly idealistic national anthem and its kind, kind people, to a land that I found that I still love as home.
since it’s so late, it’s early here, i’m not too talkative. but i’m enjoying your thoughts.
Well, one last post to bring us to an even number. I’m in awe of the patriotism, the humor, and the real grit about being a citizen that I see here at fdl. My husband doesn’t have time to read it, but I share its riches with him. He grew up as a real idealist, America substituting for religion for his family, I think. He got a senatorial appointment to the Naval Academy and was a Rickover boy, serving then in nuclear subs. Then he ended up in Vietnam, two years offshore and one horrendous year on the upper Mekong (all before I knew him; I was getting tear gassed on the Mall in DC at the time). He is heartsick at what has happened in America. The people who are trying to uncover and expose the truth fuel our hope, and both those who post and those who comment with such wit and intelligence are giving him hope that he need not stay away from what is truly his home too.
But it is a long healing that will need to happen. And here, at fdl, is the assurance that there is the intelligence, grace, and courage to make that happen.
I should shut down too. Tomorrow morning, despite the wine imbibed tonight, I need to go volunteer and rack bicycles for the New Zealand Ironman competition. Another chance to meet people from all over the world. What a wonderful world it is.
nice talking with you. we’ll leave this thread to the early morning folks.
Hello, I usually go by the nickname QuantumBios. I started Firedoglake a couple years ago, when I came across a post that I THOUGHT was written by a ThesaurusRex…oh well, liked the articles, got into Dean, was heartbroken by the way ONE video clip of him killed his presidential run, and started paying more attention to politics. Anyways, hi, now I’m officially de-lurked!
Boy, this organization has a lot of silent partners. :)

And watch out for those a cute turns as well.
You need to get a back brace or support. You will have instant relief. Go to any good pharmacy; it should cost 20-30$ an is well worth the money. It will support your back as your muscles heal. Good luck from a 66 yr old matriarch. Also,I prefer Advil.
You all deserve the Pulitzer Prize!

‘Nuther delurking Canadian here. I figure it’s safe now to say good morning and thanks, since no one is ever going to read this far.
So many of us are so grateful to you all for this daily exercise in democracy. As we used to say in the sixties, the whole world is watching.

Is there an intermediate category abover ‘lurker’ for someone who comments once every few weeks or so? Semi-lurker? Slurker?

true true but if that doesn’t appeal, try to get hold of some MSM.that is methyl-sulphonyl-methane.(BIOLOGICAL SULPHUR)Maybe a health food shop.Thats where I get mine but I’m not in your country. You will have to ask around, hope this helps.
Record number of visits to the lake in February: 2.8 million, blowing by the 2.4 million in May of 2006. And it was a short month too. March could be interesting.
Good morning! skdad, some of us jump to the end when we are never awake late night. Delurking here with a veterinary point of view (not sure where Plame-ology addiction fits with that)(but veterinarians are a snarky bunch).
Anyway, I absolutely love this community. A must-visit many many times a day.
Dear FDL,
I’m a long distance lurker; I live and work in Beirut. I depend on you for all my Wilson/Plame/Scooter/Cheney news. For some reason, since the war, we no longer get the IHT. When I read Wilson’s piece I remember wondering how much more there was to it. Thanks to you, I know!

Good morning pups, and welcome to RobertinBeirut. The NYT this morning has Brooks, who produced an opus he’s calling “A Critique of Pure Reason” (I just Kant stand it…) and Bob Herbert on slavery.

Coffee’s ready, and tea, and some bagels and cream cheese. Have a great day.
Ok TRex, I’m 50, GWM, single parent (3 kids, daughter in college, sons, one foster in high school). I’m a artist and writer who is doing carpentry to make ends meet. I’ve had a real art career (some major corporate and government did the American Craft Council shows in the 80’s and 90’s) but when my late ex wife got sick and lost her insurance, I took care of her (and am still digging my way out of medical debt)and can’t seem to get back to art while I’m trying to raise my kids. I had some recognition, but the Muse is often cheap.
I’m also a big ole country boy, educated hillbilly, mutant redneck. I’m not out to too many folks in the Georgia mountain town, and my Boyfriend, a retired engineer, can’t get folks to believer he’s gay. And I’m the biggest queer you ever saw, 6′2″ 280, not too tubby and work out. A Bear if you like.
And I watch the Plame/Libby case with hope that these criminals in high places will be called to account in this world, not some hereafter.
You guys are doing the real heavy lifting, because the Media Elites have decided this is no big thing. (see Dan Froomkin’s live chat from the WaPo yesterday, and his comment on the case and the distaste of Official Washington and the Media for it, and no, no linky.>>) I love you guys…
Mornin’ all!
Hi, Mr. Bill. I’m down here in Savannah, and TRex is in Athens. Where in Georgia are you?
Hi,
Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Just wanted to say that I don’t get much done at work anymore, but that’s okay. I don’t like working anyway.
This blog rocks.

Hello from Tulsa! I am on my way to work and can’t read all the previous comments, so this may have been asked before. If so, please ignore and I’ll scan them this evening.
What is the story behind the name Firedoglake?
Thanks so much!
FDL adds some interest and fun in this old Korean vets day.I was reading before the libby trial but it does add extra spark to the already fine blog. You are one of the three Political blogs I read regularly, so keep up the good work and stay in the top blogger ranks.
Youtube has created a section specifically for politicians: YouChoose ‘08. George Allen unavailable for comment.
Via, if I recall correctly Christy said it came about because she loves sitting by the fire, with her dogs, watching the Lakers. Other pups, please feel free to correct or amend where I’ve gone wrong…
Hi charles, Via, Mr. Bill, blue, RobertinBeirut, Ixnay and all other de-lurkers!
Good morning to all. It seems I always miss the late night fun. Gotta go to work, so gotta go to bed, although I didn’t sleep a wink.
Really want to hear some guilty verdicts today. Then I can get back to doing normal things-like breathing.
MR. Bill @ 631
Umm, no, not usually. Just some worrisome news I got Saturday that’s been preoccupying me. Woke up after three hours of sleep and can’t wind back down….
montag @ 640
Ah well, I grew up on a Dairy Farm and some part of me is still looking for cows to milk and shit to shovel..
The early to bed /early to rise thing has served me well.
And I hope yer bad news resolves itself…
A lot of folks I know seem to have gotten bad medical news in the last bit…
Bonjour a tous!
I post rarely but usually de-lurk when TRex sounds the roar to do so. I’m a scientist, currently working (post-doc) and living in Europe. I get paid a pittance for how many years I put into my studies, but hello?!? Living and working in Europe for at least two (possibly three) years. That was worth the trade off of money to me, at least for now.
Thanks to the whole FDL crew and community, because it’s not just the posters but the commenters that have me coming back here again and again.
I’ve been coming to FDL for nearly two years now but last week, I swear, I found religion and it was FDL liveblogging. I reloaded every 20 mins or so like clockwork. Thinking about the verdict I get that horrible pit in my stomach feeling. I’m happy to wait weeks so long as they come back with GUILTY (as sin)!
Anyhow, it’s lunch time here (why I’m de-lurking right now ) and still a few hours before the morning post most likely.
A bientot
ARC @622 I like your new category, Slurker
Mornin’ all newcomers and regulars. Freezing rain renders THE COMMUTE foolhardy today so I’ll be working from home, lurkin’, and hoping that the jury brings it home today.
Wow!
Just checking in this a.m., to find a former dairy farmer (woot!) and 600 comments. This place is hopping.
Will pray to the server Gods today.
Oh, now that was lovely! 600-plus comments is marvelous!
TRex, nice job — keep putting heat on the therapod several times a day, and go with the flow like you did tonight.
Mornin’, FirePups and delurking readers alike!
Hi Gang, I delurked with the apparently singular opinion that Tim Russert made an honorable decision to serve the country when he answered the questions put to him by the FBI without invoking privilege.
I can’t say I recommend this as a debut.
I can honestly defend my position and have done it a few times here.
I can’t say it’s been especially pleasant, but a professor in critical thinking has convinced me that I may do more good by giving reasoned responses than by remaining silent.
So, to all of you who called me whatever it was you called me, my therapist sends his regards.
And to Christy, thanks for detrolliating me. The bandages come off in a week.

Have you tried high dose EPA/DHA? I had a rare autoimmune thingy last year…vasculitis, joint swelling, etc. Fish oil has helped keep it at bay, and lowered my hs-CRP.
Found sAME to be great as well, but not so much on the bowels.

No, not medical, thank goodness. (Can’t afford that. :) )
Just a bunch of greedy, stupid cowboys with a little bit of money who will sell out the community to make more.

TRex’s therapy for bad backs will be needed in the North Country today. Just shoveled 6″ of heavy snow off the back step so the spaniels could give back to Mother Nature their opinion of the start of March.

Hello from the UK.
My first go at this.
What are the chances of the defendant receiving a Presidential pardon if convicted?
Mr. Bill at 649-
Truly, it was not the endless work and totally money-losing aspect of the business here in the far northeast, but as I indicated to Fini earlier, my immune system goes on the rampage now and again, and the first time it ever happened was in the barn. Basically, kiln-dried sawdust delivered for bedding…had wood glue in it. Developed reactive airway then and there, and haven’t been able to hang with the girls since. Need to move to New Zealand where they milk outside…and make money!
twolf1 @ 654
That would be preferable. This bunch has a few hundred acres outside of town, and they’ve volunteered us to the DoE as a site for high-level radioactive waste storage, a fuel reprocessing plant and an experimental sodium-cooled reactor….
First timer.
Greetings from Florida.
Hope the back gets better T-Rex.
Anybody but Hillary!
How beautiful to see all these people! Welcome.
Montag – that’s horrible. Is the ‘project’ still in the planning phase and has the community organized to fight it?
Brehz @ 655
substantial
DairyMaid @ 656
Dad always spoke of it as “the dairy business” and he could see it was a loosing proposition by the early ’70s. Especially in the southeast: and in the mountains, we were never able to scale up enough to make a real go. He started carrying mail by the time I was in Jr. High, and when my brothers started going to college, scaled out of it. The real economic history of Dairy Industry and the various sorts of subsidies in this country would make an interesting case study…
When I did the American Craft Council Shows in St. Paul, I could count on someone responding to me saying in grew up in the Dairy Business with “They don’t have dairy farms down there!”
to which I would reply, “well, then I’m wrong about all that white stuff…”
Hi tommy, g8terdude and Brehz!

Brehz — welcome to the Lake! Excellent question; I think the community here is split on the chances for a presidential pardon. Part of the community believes it’s a done deal, part of the community believes that Libby will not receive a pardon in order to provide a shield to the Executives.
I’m one of the latter; in receiving a pardon, as I understand it, Libby would have to affirm his guilt and would then be unable to plead the Fifth Amendment. He would be obliged to give testimony truthfully on those points about which he’d been prosecuted. Not particularly safe for the Executive offices.
twolf1 @ 660
This is part of the GNEP program that the DoE has been pushing. After Congress allotted a little money for it, they used about $20 million of that to identify and promote sites around the country. This particular business group “volunteered” to become one of eleven potential sites around the country.
The DoE is trying very hard to sidestep some of the rules to rush this to fruition, and instead of having a public comment period before giving out grants for detailed site reviews, they simply asked the applicants to affirm that the community would be in favor of long-term waste storage. My best guess is that they got a letter from the mayor saying so. Their application was approved and they got $1.1 million to develop the DSR, which is the first step to getting their site approved. It sounds crazy that the DoE is paying people to apply to the program, but, that’s what’s happened.
Besides the obvious problems for the community, the program is a giant boondoggle to completely subsidize the sale of reactors to foreign countries, and effectively to completely subsidize the domestic nuclear industry in the same way as has happened in the DoD with the defense nuclear industry.

Here, courtesy of Montag, is a link to Dan Froomkins live chat at the Washington Post, he discusses the possibility of a Libby Pardon.
And may I say again that the George Bush the First Pardons of the Iran=Contra criminals have set the US up for this latest burst of criminality.

Hey, MSNBC, put the whole Greenfield time with Imus up on your website today!
Excellent observations on what government should be for the powerless within the framework of the Bldg 18 story. And the whole unaccountability amorphous “mistakes were made” culture of DC.

new thread
Wow, I’m late to the delurkers thread. I have been lurking with random little posts now and then for a couple of years since before the 2004 election. Became a traitorgate adict, admire Jane, Christy, and Marcy greatly. But not a lawyer so I mainly read and ponder and hope for justics.
I’ll come out. Big fan of the site, and a big thanks to you all for providing actual updates and insights, as opposed to the 10 second MSM soundbites.
My name is Terradea and I’m a lurker. Over the past … oh, I don’t know, 8 months or so, I’ve been scanning FDL and gaining a unique insight on events and issues that I would never have been able to achieve through any other site. Please accept my humble compliments in praise of you all, not only for your brilliant scum recognition and investigative prowess, but for your sublime wit and amazing presentation.
TREX, you are my favorite.
OOOOOh, can I play? Well over 600 — what a party. Welcome to all the lurkers. I am an semi-lurker. Post occasionally, mostly just to put in my 2 cents worth but people are very friendly and care alot for each other. As evidenced by the nice person who drove into D.C. just to help Jane on her day of need.
Just great reading all these comments while resting after shoveling AGAIN the ridge they plowed behind my car. And it is going to get worse tonight so I can do the same thing tomorrow a.m.
Late to the party, but it looks like y’all had a doozy last night. ;)
Long time lurker and Plame fanatic.
Keep up the good work. You are my go-to blog for all things Plame.
I figured since I’ not a lurker usually, that I’d wait til the end and say hello to everyone else new to the comment section, but 680 posts down the list, I wonder how many lurkers remain still lurking.
As a Libby trial newbie, I’ve come to respect this blog as one of the most definitive websites and issue dedicated blogs on the web. Yet they manage to keep a very personal, human silk thread running through every new subject, kinda makes the place feel homey.
Just be careful with “the Gabbly”, though, while here it FDL, there is an attempt at true civility and purpose, Gabbly is a rollercoaster, and worth lurking around while we wait on posts from the pundits and experts.
The chat moves over to Gabbly, while the legal wrangling reamins on FDL, it is a very efficient combo. As one of those who is compelled to spew snarkballs now and then, but also one for serious questions about the real issues, I’ve found the FDL-Gabbly mix a very delightful exercise in duo-tasking.
Thanks for the venue, FDL, and welcome to the lake to everyone else who, like me, just joined-up when they made history in the Libby trial.
All I can say Trex, is Wow on this thread!

Prairie, you refering to Mother Nature or the spaniels?
Morning all, coffee is ready and there’s orange cranberry bread, boughten but nice toasted with cream cheese. Lovely and sunny here in TO, -1 C (30 F) but they’re promising us snow by early afternoon, changing to ice pellets changing to freeezing rain before tomorrow morning. Good thing we don’t have to go anywhere for the next couple of days, we can just stay in the workshop and work. And refresh, but not too often. Maybe we’ll get a nice verdict today.
MR.Bill @ 675
Hah, worked on one of those north of Toronto. Private lake, walk-in fireplaces, underground boathouses — more money than brains for sure. Made his $ in coffee, FYI.
Got to get the cranky backed theropod to 700 don’t you think?
I read you every single day and yes, this is my first time commenting. By the time I get here there are usually already about a bajillion comments, so I figure anything I might add would be superfluous. But since I finally dipped my toe in the lake, I’d like to register my disagreement about Boys for Pele and The Beekeeper. Although, I must admit, I am such a Tori Head that she could record a CD of herself belching the ABC’s and I’d probably think it brilliant.
Just watching Imus on MSNBC. Imus is a gasbag, but man is he killing them on the Walter Reed deal. Relentless.
I can recall the New Yorker Cartoons concerning EXCELCIOR. Here is a small bit towards EXCELCIOR 700 from a sometimes lurker. Thanks to all the cast and crew of this outfit for providing such a historic production. I appreciate it greatly and will as I can do the collection above. All the best…….
Ok, are we gonna make it to 700 comments or not?
