Sacramento should be put in time-out. We’ve given the world:

John Gibson
Don Imus
Rush Limbaugh

Yikes!
(Does David Gregory mitigate things a little bit?)

I knew about Limbaugh - he started in the seventies with a liberal talk show.

Joan Lunden - nee Joanie Blunden when she was on local tv

[…] Eric Boehlert, Tuesday (by way of Christy, today): So as the facts of the White House cover-up now tumble out into open court, it’s important to remember that if it hadn’t been for Fitzgerald’s work, there’s little doubt the Plame story would have simply faded into oblivion like so many other disturbing suggestions of Bush administration misdeeds. And it would have faded away because lots of high-profile journalists at The New York Times, The Washington Post, Time, and NBC wanted it to. […]

You know, I disagree with Boehlert in one fundamental way.

Maybe the reason the press corps didn’t follow-up or go in for the story is because they thought what the white house was doing was bullshit.

Lemme explain…

-Wilson writes his op-ed in the Times.

-The WH and OVP go immediately to a political smear job, trying to cast Wilson as a dude on a junket (kinda like the way Cheney tried to smear Richard Clarke on Limbaugh after 9/11)

-Libby, Fleischer and Rove fan out. They try to leak this wife connection to EVERYONE. Here’s the important part, the reporters don’t really bite. Basically, it sets of their bullshit meters.

The reporters don’t follow up on it because they sense it’s a bullshit smear job and they don’t want to dignify it with more digging or printing or whatever. Also, they probably don’t realize it’s a crime.

-Finally, GOP hack Novak dutifully prints it. (and of course immediately sings to the fbi and fitzgerald). Miller wants to print it, but she’s stopped by her DC editor. Cooper holds out awhile but finally gives in and testifies.

In other words, I don’t think in this case the press corps was cowed and scared, I think they thought they just wouldn’t bother giving this idiotic and lame smear job any attention.

The press corps didn’t realize it was a crime though and decided not to pursue it.

Matalin says:
“When Novak had that leaked name there.”

What a bizarre way to state that
Novak willfully disclosed the name
of a CIA operative, despite the fact
the CIA had called him twice to
tell him not to.

mary sounds nervous, good reason
as she has conspired with others on treason
she dishes it out
won’t take without a pout
and does jail require clothing for seasons?

MM went through all of the GOP talking points. Like Libby shouldn’t be on trial because the FBI knew there was no crime committed because Plame wasn’t a covert CIA agent when they interviewed him, etc.

By MM’s logic, Ken Starr had no reason to question, hold and threaten Monica Lewinsky because her affidavit hadn ‘t yet been filed. Bill Clinton hadn’t yet given his deposition. No crime, no foul.

But Plame was covert, says Fitzgerald.

Maeven’s got the video of it all up.

James Carville and Mary Matalin: I have never understood this marriage, and why it’s working. But then again, who knows?

Me neither. But what is worse is that how is it that Carville is on the talk shows day after day as THE expert Democratic insider? I have never been comfortable with him as a spokesperson for the Democrats, and my hope would be that they cut him off the payroll without another penny and find someone who (a) doesn’t shill for the DLC, (b) isn’t married to Mary Matalin, and (c) doesn’t look like an alien from outer space.

What the Dems need for a spokesperson is someone who looks and talks like John Edwards– you know, someone whom you’d like to invite to your house for a Sunday afternoon barbecue.
