Hi Christy,

When I first started blogging back in Feb 2005 I assumed that my congress critters would actually listen to me. Wow, what a wake-up call I got.

John Cornyn and Kay Baley Hutchison are so far right-wing instead of praying before they go to bed they recite George Dubya’s latest talking points.

I, myself, had wished Sen. Russ Feingold had run for President. I believe he’s a good man.

What’s a fella to do, to help out, living in the red state of Texas?

Troubled

Feingold is my hero, I swear. I was bouncing off the walls after hearing him tell the other Dems to quite waffling on this issue. I just wish more of the politicians would be as outspoken as Feingold.

Unfortunately, I’m a Yankee liberal Jew in the buckle of the bible belt/fascist land (i.e. South Carolina). I wrote to every Senate & House member in the state about the war a few weeks ago. DeMint now sends me stupid republican agenda pushing emails. Thank God Gmail has filters!

so if Feingold already has legislation proposed to redeploy, why the new bill from Obama? it’s nice that he’s for ending the war, but doesn’t this confuse things somewhat?

epu but still for the record, called from NZ to the Kansas senators, Brownback and Roberts. Just wanted them to have to put a tick by opposing the war and the escalation. Maybe someday those will begin to accumulate so that they notice them.

I can’t wait for (Joe)Bama to speak and act with the clarity and courage of Senator Feingold… ha!

So many chances to use his position as media darling, man of principle, so little action.

Don’t be gulled, no support for this DLC stalking horse!

Obama, Thompson and Murphy Introduce Plan to De-Escalate and End the War in Iraq

Senator Barack Obama Along With Congressmen Mike Thompson and Patrick Murphy Introduced Legislation That Stops President Bush’s Escalation and Sets a Timeline for Redeployment From Iraq

(Washington, D.C.) - Today, Senator Barack Obama (D-IL), Congressman Mike Thompson (D-CA) and Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-PA) called for a stop to President Bush’s escalation in Iraq and for an end to the war. At a press conference in the U.S. Capitol, Senator Obama and Reps. Thompson and Murphy discussed the Iraq War De-Escalation Act of 2007 - legislation they introduced in the Senate and the House which puts forward a plan to stop the recent escalation in forces and a plan to redeploy American troops from Iraq starting May 1, 2007. Senator Obama introduced the bill in the Senate and Reps. Thompson and Murphy introduced the companion legislation in the House of Representatives. Congressman Thompson is a Vietnam Veteran and a former U.S. Army staff sergeant/platoon leader with the 173rd Airborne Brigade and Congressman Murphy is a former U.S. Army Captain and Iraq war veteran.

“Our troops have preformed brilliantly in Iraq, but no amount of American soldiers can solve the political differences at the heart of somebody else’s civil war,” Senator Obama said. “That’s why our plan not only stops the escalation of this war, but begins a phased redeployment that can pressure the Iraqis to finally reach a political settlement and brings all U.S. combat troops home by March of next year.”

I wrote to both my senators today. Of course, since I am from South Carolina, it won’t make a bit of difference but it made me feel like I was doing my part. If you live in a state where it DOES matter, please write on behalf of your blue friends stuck in red states.

Teresa, as I said in a post yesterday, it DOES make a difference — maybe even more in a Senate office that’s not used to hearing that point of view.

Pat yourself on the back, and get everyone you can to write to those same, pig-headed [sorry, pigs] Senators to let them know that “stay the course” is NOT okay.

Many thanks to you.

Graham is up in 08. Every senator, even Graham, even Ted Stevens up in 08 has to be worried about this issue. The situation is going to get worse and worse, and it’s important that even senators like Graham know that there is no support for this war.
