(This lovely photo comes to us courtesy of reader Eureka Springs AR, who took it in Florence, Italy. Just says pull up a chair, doesn't it?)
We've had a good dusting of snow the last few days, but not enough to add up to any significant accumulation. Just enough to scare everyone into running out to buy that extra gallon of milk and a package of toilet paper, just in case. It's the perfect weather for staying inside with a cup of coffee and some yummy coffee cake. I found a great recipe yesterday for a cinnamon apple nut coffee cake and made it, and the whole house still smells like cinnamon and apples hours later. (I was out of walnuts, substituted pecans, and it's wonderful.)
When you add in a fresh pot of coffee, a warm, cozy house, and a freshly filled bird feeder outside my blogging window, you have heaven here this morning. Especially with the added hugs from The Peanut while she watches her morning cartoons.
This is just the sort of day to settle comfortably into a large chair with a cup of tea and a good book. Or with The Peanut and some A. A. Milne and our dachshund, if we can achieve some form of peaceful coexistence in the overstuffed chair and ottoman. Sometimes a blanket can be helpful in that regard, but I'm not holding my breath or anything this morning.
Whatever our plans for the day, they will be indoors. Luckily we are well stocked with food in the pantry and crayons and coloring books and movies and all the things that make staying indoors worthwhile. At least, for a little while anyway, and then I'm sure that some wee girlie will want to drag momma out in the snow to at least get the mail and heave a snowball or two. She's got a pretty good arm for a kid her age, but luckily for her momma the aim is still off a bit.
The one thing that I do know is that our dachshund will not be willingly headed out into our snow-dusted yard without a nudge. Our wiener dog is a weenie when it comes to the cold.
All of this made me think about how grateful I am for my snug home and my wonderful family — Mr. ReddHedd is taking The Peanut to the family room for a bit so that momma can have a little quiet time of her own, who could ask for better than that? The news has truly been abysmal lately on so many fronts, and I thought we could all use a little space this morning to talk about the things that make us smile, bring us happiness, or just make us content in so many ways.
This photo of the two ladies in Florence that Eureka Springs AR sent to me just says friendship — that quiet sort where you hang out and laugh or sit in silence and don't have to say a thing for companionship. But it's lovely, and it makes me want to find that outdoor cafe one of these days and have a glass of wine and a laugh with these two.
It just seems like a good morning to talk about gratitude. Pour yourself some more coffee, and pull up a chair…

FITZ & CHRISTY!
Morning witchywoman. :) Every time I see your online name, I start humming Eagles tunes. *g*
Heehee. No snow here in Southern California, but it is pretty brisk. I’m an early riser, so I’m sitting here in the dark with the two dogs catching up on all the fabulous posts at the Lake!
I’m grateful for this excellent Conason piece about the beautiful Molly Ivins. (Check out her great cuppa coffee pic)
“Molly lives
Like Mark Twain, Molly Ivins treated us to the sound of America in her prose and style. She was the rare, gifted journalist whose work transcended the news that inspired it.
By Joe Conason”
http://www.salon.com/opinion/c…..lly_ivins/
mmmmmm… yellow cake….
Hi Moeman. When I opened FDL the other day and saw the news that Molly Ivins had passed it was a blow to the heart. What a fabulous voice she had. The comparison to Twain seems very apropos.
‘morning, Redd…
got my coffee – still O-dark-thirty here, but the big dog is keeping my feet warm and the puppy is twirling around, doing her puppy girl things.
They don’t seem to understand the concept of “Saturday”, but never forget the joy of “breakfast”
Christy,
Good to have you back!
I’m not a religious person, but I prayed you would be well.
You sound well…
Keep the coffee and the comment’s ‘a comin’!
c-gulag, Do you mean Jane? Christy, were you sick?!
witchywoman @ 3
Bonjour ww.
I too heard of Molly’s passing here on FDL. Seems a propos to find this news on a site where we are literally surrounded by gorgeous, funny, intelligent and bloggingly sexy women. I’m sure my many maternally-clinged male cohorts in here would agree.
I’m a little exhausted and have a bit of The Peanut’s cold, but I haven’t been sick. I think gulag may have me confused with Jane — but that’s okay. :) Jane’s on the East Coast and getting ready for some trial coverage next week. And doing very well, I might add.
12 below 0 here in Stillwater, MN this morning.
Pull up a chair… To the fire.
Now where’s my special Balrog Blankie?
Balrog at 12 — I could use a blankie myself this morning. I’ve finally figured out where the cold air leak is coming from in our kitchen. Wouldn’t you know that it’s the door frame right by the table where I sit and blog? Am going to have to put some insulated foam strips around the door frame to try and block the draft. It’s just too damn cold here today.
OOOOPs, my bad! Sorry about that….
I wish all well on this site.

We just move Goldberry the Golden Retriever around to whichever door is draftiest.
Lie down. Stay!
yes, Balrog, I find dogs to be very handy for that sort of thing!

gulag at 14 — No worries. Jane is doing quite well — holding her own and then some. I swear, she is a force of nature. :)
Mornin’ all.
Can’t hang around for long, gotta work on the sermon thing. Read a lovely tribute to Molly by Maya Angelou in the WaPo. Short but really sweet.
The combination of the loss of Molly and Fr. Drinan are going to have to rate a mention in church tomorrow.
Spent part of yesterday running around for a b’day gift for Mr. Rev. Losing special people reminds us to value the ones we have and let them know that we do.
Good morning, everybody. Here in NYC my 19-year-old cat is now contenting himself with some ice water (in a people glass, on the table next to the computer) and the 4-year-old whipper-snapper is perched on the window sill, hoping for pigeons.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 10
Oh good. I guess I’m a little “hair-trigger” on the subject at the moment. I’m so glad Jane is doing well. Surgery is a bitch. {{{{{Jane!}}}}}
The robins are here in Tallahassee, soon to head farther north once they re-energize. My dad, also down visiting, and I watched a flock of 50 or so tear thru my lush yard, pushing leaves everywhere thru the plant beds and mulch. My yard was pretty much vacuumed of bugs, while along my driveway they had pushed a row of leaves up to 4 inches high. Amazing treat to watch, and I was pleased that I had enhanced my yard naturally to attract birds.
Thanks so much for the Libby coverage – also amazing, invaluable, never-before ….
Good morning, Christy and all!
I’m grateful for my warm house too. Southern Arizona has been having quite the winter, with morning lows in the 20s and last week’s actual SNOW!
That coffee cake looks wonderful, though forbidden to the diabetic; especially the diabetic who was ever so naughty over the holidays.
BWAHAHA! Pam has a post up on a Michigan pastor who wants to toss adulters in the pokey. While that is not unusual, the list of Repug presidential candidates who would be in jail is quite impressive.
Everything looks beautiful out the window today. There is a light layer of snow, not enough to last long but beautiful none the less.
It is now Feb. and we in and around Boston have not had enough snow to measure yet this year. This scares me. A lot.
‘morning, Peanut!
(she’s just the cutest!)
Well If I’m going to talk about gratitude, I gotta give it up to Emptywheel for an absolutely phenomenal live blogging this past week.
As a lawyer, I have to admit that I didn’t expect the live blogging to pick up on some of the nuances that took place this week, especially out of the hearing of the jury. Emptywheel not only picked up on the legal nuances, but probably gave one of the best written expressions of a courtroom mood that I have read. Absolutely astounding…and in real time as well.
So thank you emptywheel, thank you, thank you, thank you.
we are having a heat wave!
It is 15 degrees and sunny!!!!!!!
It was below 6 or below 0 for a week and I’m tired of staying indoors!!!! With wind chill
-25 one night.
I am also thankful that my son came home for a visit.
Not so thankful for the basketful of laundry he brought with him!
Does everyone around here know yet that Glenn Greenwald is moving on over to Salon? Good move on his part. It is worth supporting by subscribing. I don’t read Salon nearly as regularly as I do FDL and blogs, but they do some great work with some fine writers. We need to support the liberal/progressive voice everywhere we can.
If you’re subscribing to Salon, come visit Table Talk, a place full of some of the smartest, funniest and nicest progressives on the tubes. An account comes along with your annual Salon subscription.
Good Morning Christie, your special Saturday morning time with your daughter brings back memories . . . enjoy every minute of it. As for me, it’s just about time to wake up a sluggish teenager who would happily sleep til noon.
And thanks to you, Jane, Marcy, Jeralyn and all the commenters for your terrific coverage of the Libby trial. FDL is fantastic, as always.
Today I get to rehearse a new piece by Philip Glass, The Passion of Ramakrishna, with the Symphony Chorus, and tonight, the last performance of Romeo e Juliette by Gonoud, with the Opera. And I have a sword.
Singing with my friends, especially my opera friends, is one of the great pleasures of my life. It brings a whole range of feelings that play no part whatsoever in my work-a-daddy lawyer life. Stage work for chorus is about the body, bringing emotions to the surface and letting them play out in the face and posture, because that reinforces the music for the audience, and the physical work helps me add the emotion to the voice. My opera friends are really good at that. And, my work life is so in my head that using the rest of the body is, among other things, a great release.
moeman @ 10
Good mornin’ all. Cold here in DC, too. And they (those oh-so accurate forecasters) say it’s gonna get colder.
Gratitude? Well, I’ll say it: I’m grateful for Firedoglake-this place came along at the exact right time: funny, snarky, intelligent, irreverent, and deadly serious about challenging the bullshit here in this town.
Oh, and did I mention how good-lookin’ we all are? *g*
RD at 29 as I said on Glenn’s site last night, I’m looking forward to throwing an extra 50 bucks to Salon in his name. I can’t give directly to political activities because of work, but I can give to blogs that support issues I care about. And I’m blown away by the sheer volume of words that Glenn can hammer out, and still be spot on. Imagine when he has more time and focus.

masacchio — That sounds wonderful. I feel the same way about the time I manage to find for myself on my piano (which isn’t often these days). The release of losing myself in learning a new piece — especially a difficult one — is a wonderful way to be more mindful in the moment. Or finding a little time to nestle in with a good book and lose myself in its pages.
I wonder how many reporters are using Marcy’s amazing live blogging of the Libby trial as their major resource without giving credit. Bunches of ‘em, I’ll bet. The journalist at the Hollywood Reporter who put the acknowledgment front and center is a real stand up guy.
I’m in the lost pines of Bastrop County, Texas. crystal clear day, quite crisp. we have woodpeckers all about, and my dear one gave me binoculars for my last birthday. It’s a new hobby for me! I’m headed out to feed my hens and then watch some woodpecking. I opened a new bag of coffee this morning and that aroma is still with me. This is always a terribly needed break for me after a busy work week, and I thank all here for speaking to the real human need for these “pull up a chair” respites.
No robins here. -12F at the moment. Predicted high for the day, -3F.
Well, I’m off to the rain room. I’ll be back in a bit with wet hair. ;)
PLAME GAME CAKE
Box of YELLOWCAKE
Large can of Crushed Pineapple
Small container of Cool Whip
Small box of Instant Vanilla Pudding
COOK the yellowcake in a long baking pan. Let cool and then refrigerate the cake for an hour.
FORGING ahead, remove cake from refrigerator and, using a fork, make holes all along the top of the cake. Open the can of crushed pineapple and layer the top of the cake, allowing the pineapple to LEAK into the cake thru the holes made using the fork.
Mix pudding (adding the milk) according to box recipe in a large bowl. Fold in (do not use mixer) the container of cool whip. Next, use this to cover the entire cake. Regrigerate for at least 3 hours. Cake is always best on the second day. Enjoy!
Oh Lord but it’s cold here this morning. JAnuary has been surprisingly mild but the last week has been brisk and this morning -36C without the windchill, and -47C with the wind. Yikes – and my place is not well stocked and I have to make it out to the grocery store soon. Oh well, it’s a dry cold (local joke).

Sounds delicious…for breakfast.
CHS @17, bwahahaha! Wee ones and cats love keyboards.
It’s dark and cold here in WA, and the coffee’s almost ready. Gotta share this story with all of you. Scroll down a bit to the photo of one of the Angry Grannies (who protest this war regularly) banging a pot and lid together. Literally. Just like Molly suggested. It made me smile.
The cafes or coffee bars in Italy are so very different than what we have here in the states… although Starbucks tried to come up with the american version of cafe culture. It is just that.
Politics in this nation and the world is large depressing at the slow rate of progress and more accurately the apalling rate of digression. How could we be even debating toture in the 21st century? This administration has really put a cabbash on freedom and stepped hard on the necks of the poor and even middle class in this nation. That is all very depressing. And then there is the ever present militarism of the american consciousness and the fact that we pay homage and use military might to easily to solve problems.. which it never does.
I need to escape this ugliness and I do it by sailing… and in the colder months by attending opera and ballet which is so beautiful and life affirming… and some comedy. And of course visiting the art museums.
How ironic that our view back to our past is always the works of artists… not of politicians, or warriers. Sure they have changed the course of history… but it’s always the art of the time, music and even dance which endures as the uplifting spirit of creation.
What have politicians and warriors ever actually created?
A right is not something that someone give you… It something that no one can take away.
They sure try don’t they.
Salon needs Glenn more than they need him. I shall never forgive that bitch Joan Walsh for launching jihaad against me several years back.

Balrog: you must be having a heat wave. Minus 24 for us ironrangers this am, predicted high of 10 below & same for tomorrow.
I need some advice from the fdlers that have feline furry children. We have a very old cat in good health but she is driving us crazy waking us up to feed her. I’m looking for a timed feeder at a reasonable cost. We feed her twice a day, am & pm. Her parents, stressed out with the personal & the state of the world need their sleep!
The tributes of Molly I have been reading, esp from those who knew her best, have been wonderful. The Mpls Star Trib had a great one by John Yewell & lovely obit this week. I saw a photo of her when she worked in Minn from the late 60’s wearing a maxi coat. It must have been extreme weather shock for a Texas gal. Maxi coats, now that brings back memories of the late 60’s for me.
I’m having a hard time accepting that she is gone & I won’t be able to read her amazing stuff anymore. I would love to see a documentary or equivalent of her appearances. Molly was just as funny & sharp to watch as she was to read. I would have loved to have attended the tribute to Molly that the Texas Observer had & seen her & all the others speaking, a group of the best & brightest in one room.
MC: It is great for breakfast. My grandmother used to make it with chocolate pudding and cherry filling. It is delicious, I swear. And so easy.

I had the same thought and went to Salon yesterday to subscribe. Wonder of wonders, the ad-wall wasn’t even up. I was able to go anywhere on the site.

Here in central Ohio, it’s 10 degrees, with more than a week’s worth of snow still on the ground. It’s also clear and bright–lots of sunshine–which isn’t typical for winter here. We can go days and days without seeing the sun.
Is it safe to say that I was here for Peanuts first post ever?
With all of the discussion (elsewhere) about supporting Glenn Greenwald by subscribing, have there ever been any thoughts about setting up a vehicle for financial fueling here?
Maybe use the Tin/Bronze/Silver/Gold/YellowCake Contributor model in which people can donate at various levels (or not, which is also cool).
Maybe offer token prizes like an FDL T-Shirt to certain membership levels. Signed PoodlePortraits. The like.
I know this is a delicate topic Blogosphere wide, but there it is. Thoughts?
Good Morning Christy and Firedogs,
now we are deep in to cbl territory – started keeping a gratitude journal over 10 years ago. before retiring, you write a thank you note to God, Life, Gaia, Allah, etc. listing min. of 5 things that day for which you are grateful – eye opening when you can’t come up with more than 3.
some of the more philisophical, smarter kidz will dismiss it as superstitious, etc., but it changed everything on a fundamental level
and finding Jane, Christy, and all of you has become a regular entry
sorry to go all Oprah, but it rings a deeply personal bell*g*

My mother was a piano player, and she taught me the pleasure of singing. I wish I had learned to play, but it never dawned on me to learn until it was too late. I often wished I could play and sing with my kids, but we were able to substitute singing with records. Even now, when my daughter comes home, we put on the Mikado or Music Man, and cook dinner together.
Got a small window today where it will be above 30 degrees, then it looks like it will be too cold to work for the next 4 days. So my audiences will have to brave their frigid commutes without me.
There have been buds on the trees here for about a week now. In spite of the impending cold snap I can smell the early spring in the air.
But I go my picture in 5 different local weekly papers here yesterday. I’m pretty happy with that.

Ironranger, I feel your pain. My old boy has the uncanny knack of waking me for food about an hour before I have to get up. If I’ve set the alarm for 7, he’s at me at 6. If I’ve gotta get up at 5, he’s yawping in my ear at 4.
I don’t know how he knows, but he does.
I remind myself that it’s better than it was when he was a youngster. In those days, he’d perch on the bedside table and methodically knock everything on it piece by piece to the floor until I leapt out of bed in a rage. And once he had me on my feet…
Once a devil, always a devil!

Cats can tell time. They get thrown off when daylight savings time changes but only for a day or 2. Our cat sometimes (too often) decides that she would rather eat at 5am (or worse, 4:30) than 6am. Even more annoying is when she is fed by one of us but someone else is still sleeping & she thinks everyone should be up paying attention to her. She makes enough noise that no one can sleep anymore. After she has rousted everyone up, she promptly finds a cozy spot & goes to sleep. Mission accomplished.

wow…. Shrub said… Thirdly… I really did not think he could hold that many ideas at one time!
Applause polite, but not enthusiastic.
Christ, he’s talking about the federal gov’ment working for the poor and the elderly. This has to be another first.

I am ever grateful for people who make me laugh in this time of unspeakable horror. Just watched The Producers last night and was reminded just how funny Nathan Lane is. What an amazing talent.. And, yes, I get a bunch of laughs here whenever TRex does his thing…so thanks to anyone who brings the gift of laughter.
And I am grateful for amazing writers who bring tears, thoughtfulness, and laughter through their pens. Just finished Gossamer (by Lois Lowry) and even though it’s intended for young adults, it is truly a work of imagination and compassion for any age.

3 times now…
‘Morning, FirePups! Slept in today LATE, after holding the first teenager birthday party here last night. (OMFG, why are smart girls so obscenely obsessed with their hair???) My ears are still ringing a bit from the noise level.
That pic makes me think of a vacation I took with some female friends — my first “chick vacation”, in Paris in April. What a blast, memories I will enjoy for ever. We would split up and trek across the city in the morning, regroup in the afternoon at a small cafe a block from our hotel to have a beverage and a snack and then plan our evening. Biere blanche with lemon, wine, cheeses, while watching Paris walk by, sitting in the golden warmth of the late afternoon sun.
One afternoon in particular we saw this spectacular piece of humanity, carrying an enormous bouquet of lilies, striding confidently in our direction. Tanned, smiling, flashing equally enormous white teeth, wearing lily-white pants and shirt that made the flowers he carried look like an extension of his body. He was a Kodak moment, if there ever was one. We all held our breath, the Cuban girl among us the exception as she clucked something in Spanish.
And then the spell was broken when his petit amour crossed the street to meet him, carrying their groceries for their dinner. The boys kissed lovingly, swapped their bundles, and sauntered away arm in arm, lost in each other.
We laughed so hard after they were well out of earshot, chattering about the spectacle of four married women panting over a lovely gay man, sipping our biere and vin rouge. We still laugh about it today, years later.

mrsmarks:
One time my husband was heavily involved with a summer weekend community event. He was running his butt off from early am to late at night that weekend when he made a very rushed stop (forgot something vital) at home. The birds were singing, there was fresh cut grass smell & a warm breeze on that sunny day. All was blissfully peaceful at home including the cats (2 at the time) sprawled deep, deep in sleep. He buzzed in profusing sweating with his hair sticking up in places, took one look at the cats & said to them, “Don’t you know there are things to do & places to go???” I think he actually hated them for a moment.
montag @ 109

Re: Morning Cats
My 3 year old Sam gets close to 13 year old Kat an hour before I have to get up so she GROOOWWWLZZZ and carries on, and every time I sit up he runs away. If I get up and can catch him and scrub his head then all is right with the world and I can crawl back into bed, and they both stay quiet. It works even better if I dump some fresh kibble on the stuff that’s always out. They’re in cahoots though, since I’ve seen them sleeping not too far apart and she doesn’t scream at him.
I DO luv them kitties though. And I can’t get enough of FDL either. Thanks to all who read these words!

Now that is an interesting question….
Reach for the book by the chair…
Hmmm….
This looks good. How about a little Wordsworth to re-frame the morning?
“The world is too much with us”
THE World is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers:
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!
This Sea that bares her bosom to the moon,
The winds that will be howling at all hours
And are up-gather’d now like sleeping flowers,
For this, for everything, we are out of tune;
It moves us not. — Great God! I’d rather be
A pagan suckled in a creed outworn, —
So might I, standing on this pleasant lea,
Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;
Have sight of Proteus rising from the sea;
Or hear old Triton blow his wreathd horn.
katymine @ 116
It was a short chimpspeech. there is a Q&A session that is ‘private’ and won’t be on da teevee.

I don’t know, but if Bill Clinton did that, the cable news pundits would still be yammering about it. Of course, Clinton would never have behaved that recklessly where the lives of others are concerned. Nor would Clinton be so utterly fascinated by a big ol’ piece of construction equipment.
Morning….always a good morning when I hear from Redd and Peanut. Beautiful here in Maine…after the bitter cold we’ve had recently, 28 degrees feels balmy and with the sun out and a fresh dusting of snow, it’s feel-good weather.

Question: Is Cheney a defense witness? Meaning that he might not even be called to the stand, in light of how bad he’s looking thus far?
_
If as president, Bill Cl*nton bought 1000 acres in Paraguay – either solo or in partnership with a cult leader – the cable news pundits would be still be yammering on about it. And Congress would investigate the matter and appoint Ken Starr…
BobbyG at 127 — Yes, he’s on the defense witness list, along with Rove and Bartlett. Quite the crew, eh?
BobbyG, the defense claimed they were going to call Cheney to the stand, but that was before the trial started. I’d be stunned and amazed if he actually testifies. IANAL, but I don’t think he will. Much too risky considering what’s been said so far.
Need a Fitz fix? Emptywheel predicts that Cheney will not testify.

Gore ex-campaign chief wishes on her star
‘Wait till Oscar night,’ Donna Brazile says of a possible 2008 run.
Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama are the hot early front-runners, while 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry has already bowed out.
But could former Vice President Al Gore be waiting to make a dramatic entrance into the 2008 presidential race, especially if he wins an Oscar next month? His former campaign manager, Donna Brazile, strongly implied that possibility while speaking at Moravian College in Bethlehem Tuesday night.

Christy, I have a question on the forensics of the Indictment -
Does it look to you like the Indictment, as it was originally intended, was written to show the Pres’ DCOS (Rove) and the VP’s COS (Libby) being charged with “Leaking” Plame’s identity
according to ‘orders’ and a coordinated ’script’?
It certainly looks to me that, at least originally, Libby and Official ‘A’ (Rove) were both charged with Obstruction, Perjury and False Statements. Libby for the Russert Conversation, and Rove for the Cooper Conversation.
If it were true that the original intent behind the Indictment was to reflect Rove and Libby acting in concert – doesn’t that beg the question “Who’s doing the Conducting?”
And, if the original construction was a “Minions at the Same Level Following Orders” Prosecution – How did Rove ’slip’ his Cooper Charges onto Libby?
Did Rove ‘give-up’ Cheney as the ‘Conductor’?
RBG @ 131
If he doesn’t, it will be a strong indication of just how in disarray the defense is. A lot of their voir dire questioning of jurors was a setup for a Cheney appearance. And, of course, if Scooter doesn’t testify then the defense is essentially admitting, “We got nothing.” As has been pointed out before, the scapegoat argument is no defense at all against lying but an extremely weak plea for jury nullification, which is a little like throwing a Hail Mary pass in the dark in the rain in a hockey game.

BobbyG @ 143
First, he’s not on Fitz’ witness list. More importantly, you might want to consider *why* he’ not on the Govt’s witness list.
My own tiny thought is that you don’t call someone as your own witness, thereby lending implicit crediblity to that person, when there’s a chance that you may be indicting that person sometime soon.

radiofreewill at 146 — That’s one of the big unanswered questions in all of this for me. No defense counsel in his right mind would allow his client to go before a federal grand jury on five occasions without some understanding with the prosecutor as to what is going to be asked and for what purpose, because there is too much risk of a slip-up and an indictment as a result. But what beans Rove spilled — and on whose doorstep they fell? We still don’t know. All we have is Luskin’s public pronouncements on that, and you’ll have to pardon me if I don’t feel like we’ve gotten even remotely close to the whole story from him. *g*
jayt @ 151
Excellent point. And, given that he’s a defense witness, Fitz couldn’t call him up in any event, right?
As to indicting Cheney, much as I’d utterly love it, I don’t see it happening unless some hard evidence of the Shooter committing obstruction emerges.

Regarding the loss to Iraq of scholars and all, there is an article in the Feb. ART News about “the former chairman of Iraq’s State Board of Antiquities and Heritage” who has moved to NYC for a temporary job teaching (Stony Brook U on Long Island).
One of the compelling disasters of the war, for me, is the issue of the antiquities and archeology sites. Perhaps it is not important for these things to remain together in their places of origin, but damn. Loss and breakage.
Sorry, but I make things. And the things that were made in 200 BC and earlier, they are astounding. It makes me crazy about all of the loss and destruction.

Looking at it from the outside, it’s hard NOT TO IMAGINE that Rove took the ‘Target’ that was squarely on him and moved it onto Cheney, perhaps with the ‘help’ of Bartlett?
It was then that Luskin told the world that Rove was ‘not a Target’ (sub-text: not anymore, heh heh) of the investigation.
Can you see a realistic scenario where Cheney would have to testify for Libby in order to clear his own name of wrongdoing?

I just sent the following email to a friend who works as an environmental planner for the Port of Xxxxxxx, California.
Dear Xxxxxx;
Have you ever read Molly Ivins work? The link below is an epithet to a real woman.
http://www.salon.com/opinion/c…..lly_ivins/
When you came back from your planning meeting in Texas last year, you told me you couldn’t get out of Texas fast enough because everybody there is a gun toting right wing conservative Christian asshole. If Texans are as you say, then why is Tom Delay under indictment in Texas for crimes relating to unseating the Democratic majority in the state legislature? I can’t help but wonder if your attitude resembles the one that led our entire country into the war we’re in. To wit: If muslims attacked us on 9/11/01 then, for our own safety and peace, we need to label all muslims (middle easterners for that matter) terrorists. Label all muslims based on the actions of a few. Ditto Texans. What’s the difference? There is no difference because prejudice is a universally fundamental human trait. Trust me darling Texas is a great state, as culturally rich and no more bigoted nor prejudicial (maybe a little louder) than anywhere else in the world. Molly has been an inspiration and source of comfort to me in these difficult years.
Please mirror, let me not condemn others for what you hide from my own heart.
The reason I am posting it here is:
The Libby trial, and the reporting/analysis of those on this blog, is clearly unwrapping layers of the proverbial onion for all of us with some clear vision to see. I deeply value the work you all do and thank you for giving me a place to gather information with which to do as we ultimately all will do- exercise my own judgement and assesments. As this gets increasingly headier, and it most likely will, pitfalls will present themselves in which you and I can fall and allow our prejudices against the current power structure to influence our judgements in ways that ultimately don’t serve your/my simple mission: truth and justice.
You all have the vision and dedication of great artistry and it’s been an inspiration and source of peace for me. I thank you. I suspect Molly would too.

Sorry for the delay. I was gone thawing water lines and fixing a hot water tank.
The original story was in April of 2003 in the time of the rampant looting. I take it to be credible because I saw the people dumping the tall blue barrels on some of the newscasts. It turned into another story down the memory hole – gone and mostly forgotten now, like the museum lootings.
I think of those poor folks and the blue barrels whenever I hear the yellow cake name. I could probably dig up some more links on that if anyone is interested.
