Huge thanks again to the fantastic folks from PoliticsTV for making these reports from the courthouse possible. Thanks, guys!
Another batch of links to stories in the Traitorgate saga. I have to say, reviewing all of this material in putting the links together for all of you has been interesting. There is so much information wrapped up in this one investigation — the political intrigue, the nastiness, the lies, the cover-ups, the media trade-offs for access and quotes…so many questions, and still so few answers. But one thing keeps coming acoss loud and clear: questioning the Bush Admnistration's credibility — and specifically the veracity of Vice President Dick Cheney — appears to have been an event that caused a whole lot of people to hit a very large panic button inside the Beltway.
And now, on to more links — this ought to keep you busy for a little while, anyway:
7/18/05: On the GOP pundit failure to stand up for Rove.
7/18/07: Get the barf bags…
7/18/05: Andrea Mitchell's lack of attention to detail.
7/20/05: More Patrick Fitzgerald prosecutorial background.
7/21/05: Wherein a wingnut breaks his brain trying to think.
7/22/05: Spin and the Rovian way.
7/23/05: On the meaning of patriotism (or why Jim Marcinkowski rocks).
7/24/05: A round-up of recent coverage.
7/25/05: On the meaning of "covert."
7/25/05: Rove attempts to launch a smear campaign via Sen. Pat Roberts (a/k/a: Willing Tool.)
7/27/05: Dennis Hastert, bobbing and weaving. (And isn't THAT the visual you wanted stuck in your brain like that damned hamster dance song?)
8/1/05: "Karl Rove: Slightly More Popular Than Gay Marriage." (Okay, not a Traitorgate post, but I had to write that out.)
8/2/05: Tom Brokow visits Jailhouse Judy.
8/2/05: On the security of Pat Fitzgerald's position a special prosecutor.
8/2/05: Mount Novak erupts. (Oh Jane, such a classic phrase, all by itself. Ick factor: 7.9.)
8/6/05: Wherein Murray Waas connects the Judy and Scooter dots.
8/7/05: On oversight and supervising Fitz.
8/7/05: Spew warning: Jane calls Glen on some idiocy.
8/8/05: Fitz and the NYTimes.
8/8/05: Novakula, the "cadaverous, swivel-chair hussar."
8/8/05: Fitz keeps Chicago USAtty position.
8/10/05: The GOP Liars Club and Walter Pincus.
8/13/05: On Fitz, Comey and the DoJ.
8/15/05: In which indictments are discussed in detail, including the fact that Fitz likes to start with perjuries.
8/15/05: Disco Bolton meets Jailhouse Judy. (The first person who sings Mustache Love is going to get it.)
8/16/05: Big Bob's thoughts on morality.
8/16/05: Denial runs through the NYTimes management.
8/20/05: Factoring in The Patriot Act into the investigation.
8/23/05: Wherein Bob Novak pledges to tell the truth — at $595 a head.
8/25/05: Is the media worm turning?
8/26/05: In which Joe Wilson declines dinner with Novakula.
8/27/05: Jailhouse Judy gets writers' cramp.
8/29/05: Fizgerald and the neocons (and one of my all-time favorite Jane closing lines…ever.)
Whew — well, that's just the first few months of coverage. Much more to come…

MARCY!
Way to go Marcy. What a ride!
I just LOVE these gorgeous, smart women giving me the report each night!!
How lucky is that?
Like Cheney’s going to tell the truth when asked….
a cut and paste from myself downstairs because it’s germain to this great youtube from marcy
btw
marcy, you are getting more and more confortable in front of the camera, looking like you’re really enjoying youself…very nice
anyway;
I had to leave the thread downstairs before it was done and a train of conversation evolved that I want to comment
first, there is no discussion whether or not Valery was covert, the special prosecutor told it to us in no uncertain terms and it was the cia themselves that initiated the investigation.
so the fact that morons suggest she wasn’t covert just demonstrates their “moronditude”, [a word I just invented}
anyway, I want to add layers to the very definition of “covert” and once told what I’m going to say is self evident, but needs to be spoken to be realized
even though the covert status is usually thought of in terms of “either covert or not”, there are very distinct categories of covert that CIA operatives use, and not so distinct as well, there are layers and layers that most people don’t appreciate of covert opps and operatives…there’s an almost endless list of components.
Some cover is real thin and disposable, meaning a person could be enlisted for a particular opp, then once the opp is complete, their life continues as though they were never involved. Other forms of cover are so layered and deep that they even anticipate probing into the operative from every facet of a person’s life.
there is also cover as thin as “works for the CIA but not undercover” while in fact that is their cover
once one of these opps are exposed as being under cover, that’s the end of their effectiveness in that capacity and that cover is blown.
but none of those layers have anything to do with this case, we know as a fact brewster jennings and associates had to close shop because Valery was exposed…this brutal fact is all anyone has to point to if they want to disabuse the morons who have moronditude concerning the value of Valery as a vital asset to our countrie’s national security
pol @ 5
We’re at war…aid and comfort to the enemy…Wilson (grumble grumble) emboldening the enemy…greeted as liberators…last throes if you will…you’re out of line with that question…one Coors Light with lunch…go eff yourself…
Wow, Marcy, every PoliticsTV appearance is better than the last! I have certainly enjoyed all your live-blogging, even through the saggy sidebars during the FBI Agent’s testimony today. This is a great public service — as well as the Creation of A New Media Paradigm — and I hope the live-blogging segments will be bound and donated to the Library of Congress when the trial ends. It’s so wonderful to be a part of this, as a tiny contributor and occasional commenter.
Thanks, Christy, for the look-backwards, to remind us of the exciting development of TraitorGate and evolution of FDL over the years — and the refresher course for those who may have some details a little cloudy (Nina T., I’m looking at YOU!)
Can’t wait for Jane to get her facetime at Prettyman with BigTime!
…oh, and:
Troops
Home
NOW
Marcy, beaucoup.
I hope the links are helpful for you guys. I know I’m always looking for one post or another — and this way, I’m going to pull them altogether in a nice, coherent whole. Thought some of the more Plame-obsessed might appreciate the weekend reading. *g*
Hope to pull the rest of them together for everyone tomorrow, assuming The Peanut is well enough to go to preschool. (That way I’ll have the time to comb through the archives for you guys and link these up.)
btw, around August of 2005 is where you’ll start seeing me apear as “ReddHedd” in Jane’s posts. We were e-mailing back and forth a lot, after meeting in a DKos Plame thread, and then calling on the phone, obsessing about the minutiae of the case. I didn’t start actually blogging at FDL until a bit later in September/October though. Haven’t gotten to my first post yet — there have been so many now, I can’t remember what it even was. (I think it may have been something about Harriet Miers, actually. LOL)
Thanks for the clift notes…. trying to work today was really hard….
With the drum beats for the Iran War….in my opinion the outing of Valerie Plame had ALL to do with Brewster-Jennings. It ties to Iran and also why I kept saying after BushCo did not find WMD in Iraq …. so why were they not planted?
Eventually, I would love to know the damage to this organization and CIA employees who used Brewster-Jennings as their cover company. I expect it will be profound.
I am so impressed by both Marcy and Jeralyn. Cogent concise commentary, without the MSM crapola. New paradigm indeed. I expected to see bloody stubbs instead of fingers holding the microphone from all that keyboarding. Fantastic job. Hope to see you liveblogging the upcomming war crimes trials!
Nice to think that Harriet Miers actually served a purpose — bringing ReddHedd out as a blogger on FDL!
katymine at 12 — My brain is too fried this evening to do a court summary for today’s proceedings. There were several arguments that need further explanation, so I’m goingto try and hit that tomorrow at some point for everyone, along with a summary on the testimony. I think all the blogging is catching up with me tonight, so I’m going to hit the hay early.
I’m so glad that Marcy got to sleep in this morning — she so deserved the extra sleep. :)
Christy Hardin Smith @ 10
do you remember the post about ghgb, gwb, bill cinton and joe wilson? it was a sassy little number about how gwb had to know wilson because his dad was so fond of him anyone remember? it was about jealousy i loved that post
Here’s an article that has passed under the radar…and might be interesting especially for the fact that Tamara Lippert was one of those reporters on the side of the road that ARI approached to leak Plame’s identity to. Lippert DID walk away about the time he squealed…but perhaps David Gregory or Dickerson said something to here afterwards.
Blame Game
The Blame Game Between Bush and the Brit
by Richard Wolffe, Mark Hosenball and Tamara Lipper, Newsweek, 17 March 2003
“They have been the closest of allies. But under the intense pressure of a diplomatic crisis at the United Nations and an imminent war in Iraq, the friendship between the United States and Britain is beginning to fray. The most recent strain emerged when U.N. nuclear inspectors concluded last week that U.S. and British claims about Iraq’s secret nuclear program were based on forged documents. The fake letters supposedly laid out how Iraqi agents had tried to purchase uranium from officials in Niger, central Africa.
Who was to blame for undermining the case against Saddam? One Bush administration official told Newsweek that the uranium story was promoted by the British. “U.S. intelligence has always been skeptical,” said one official, saying there was “no corroboration” for the British report. However, the British government never named Niger as the potential supplier for Iraq’s nuclear program. The Brits carefully said in September that Iraq had sought “significant quantities of uranium from Africa.” London claimed several sources linking Iraq to a number of African states, but never named Niger. It was the Bush administration that NAMED Niger in mid-December, when it listed dozens of omissions in Iraq’s weapons declaration to the United Nations….”
Teddy at 14 — LOL!
Has the hummingbird been back to visit you and the fiance lately? And please give him a smooch from me, will you? Was thinking about what fun we had shopping that day in SanFran yesterday as I was putting on my “3 Dollar Bill” t-shirt from the cafe. :)
next batch of Traitorgate postings (no rush!) will start to look familiar to me; started lurking around 09/05 as I recall.
I agree with TeddySanFran that the videos keep getting better and better. Sheesh, I’ve received real-time reporting, instantaneous commentary by the person reporting the event (in bold), analysis by extremely knowledgeable readers in the comments, and a succinct video summary of each days events – all for free (although I did make a small donation to firedoglake to help fund Plame house).
Personally, I think this has been truly groundbreaking in terms of achieving what journalism aspires to.
Marcy, you’ve done a stellar job the past few weeks. One of the lawyers who frequents FDL was particularly impressed by your coverage because, although you’re not a lawyer, you have been incredibly accurate in relaying information about evidence, sidebars, etc.
Thank you so much, have a fun week off, and hurry back.
(P.S. Love the haircut)
lolo at 16 — I’m pretty sure that one is coming up in the next batch or so. And yes, I do remember that one. *g*
That should say “Lipper” not “Lippert”.
BTW Tamara LIPPER now works for none other than David “Cathie” Martin over at the FCC as spokeswoman on all things lewd and lascivious!
dab from CT @ 21
I’ll admit, I haven’t been paying close attention, but, Marcy’s not a lawyer? She could have fooled me.
cinnamonape at 23 — I swear, everyone in Washington knows everyone else. It’s such a bizarre little incestuous bubble.
Thanks Marcy – masterful! And thanks Christy for all these ordered posts!
Christy Hardin Smith @ 25
And I have a hunch that Judyjudy knew Valerie before all this, and had an inkling she was undercover.
Christy thank you. It was so well done i loved the snark
Christy…. boy do I understand… appreciate all of this and really glad to hear this first hand.
My ex used to work in a department in the USAF which did a lot of the spy monitoring in the middle east when we were stationed in Greece. USAF had monitoring stations which listened to morris code and voice radio transmissions. Their job was to take down (dot by dot or word) which was then sent to the translators. This was late 70’s, Iran Hostage and evacuation of Iran time frame.
These operations augmented human intelligence on the ground. This makes me sick that for political ass covering…. agents who were risking THEIR lives to provide that human intelligence were also outed.
I know this is OT but I wanted to post links to a couple of articles, hopefully not sounding like I am being a whiner but this really bugs me. The US is playing the bully again and, of course, we KNOW it is for the oil and for the domination of the Mid-East. But, as usual, the propoganda flows freely from the WH and Pentagon.
From Raw Story: Now
and from The Telegraph: Then
Funny, I remember stuff almost IDENTICAL to this in the lead up to Iraq. And, of course, the OVP is said to be the office angling the most for this action. (Gee, I wonder if Cheney is planning a return to Halliburton?)
Interestingly enough, as they did in 2002 and 2003, the IAEA is once again urging calm, patience and transparency on all sides. And, once again, it is not happening. I honestly believe that ElBaradei and Blix are bald for a reason besides genetics!
I have TONS of links on this topic because, once Bush and Company started mouthing off again about another country not getting in lock-step with their demands for ceasing all nuclear activity (nevermind the IAEA was already on it), I figured it was time to start collecting the pieces and bookmarking like hell.
I am hoping like crazy that I will be able to breathe a sigh of relief and dump it after all. So far, I am not holding my breath on that one.
By the way, is it possible I am being paranoid in thinking that this so-called surge in Iraq might actually be posturing prior to action in Iran after all? Oh, I AM out there, am I not?
Someone lock me up already.
“I just LOVE these gorgeous, smart women giving me the report each night!!”
My feelings exactly.
Christy, you were probably busy earlier today, but please check your email. I’ve made a little utility to help you live bloggers save your fingers.
Rat @29 I think you are right on.
I heard an interview of Scott Ritter fall of 2004 who stated that he was contacted by BushCo administration asking for help to DO Something to stabilize Iraq because Bush had just signed off on plans to invade Iran. He has been saying this over and over again since then.
Today, Larry Johnson was interviewed on Thom Hartman’s AAR show today, saying he is hearing the SAME thing. The guys and gals inside are yelling to anyone who will listen to try and stop the NUTS running this out of control juggernaut.

I certainly wish Swopa a lot of luck! How fast does Swopa type anyway? Marcy is going to definitely be a hard act to follow, but I’m sure he’ll do well (says the lady that can type only 35-40 wpm on a good day.) Seriously, I don’t know how you guys are doing this. I can’t even read as fast as you guys are typing this all up. I doubt that most secretaries could. Congrats to all of you.

On May 8, 2001 Richard Cheney was officially placed in charge of all US military counter-terror drills, including all Air Force counter-hijacking drills.
On Nine Eleven Oh One there were 5 anti-terror Air Force drills on-going, which caused the FAA to ground every flight “in order to tell the good guys from the bad guys” (FAA honcho as quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle).
These drills crippled the American air defense response (the 9/11 Commission whitewash to the contrary).
This may have been a co-incidence — gross negligence given the high-alert “hair on fire” climate the summer of ‘01 — or may have Cheney committed treason?
Hasn’t Dick Cheney obviously committed treason with the outing of Valerie Plame?
Isn’t it time to start calling for Cheney’s resignation and start investigating his crimes and the crimes of his friends at Halliburton?
Katymine @33, please forgive my naivete, but who is Tom Hartmann and what is AAR? Air America Radio? Please tell me I am right so I do not have to blush in embarassment!
Christy Hardin Smith @ 25
And none of them seem to know US! [By which I mean the concerns and lives of folks beyond the beltway :-(

tom hartman is one of the foremost scholars concerning the constitution, history, meaning and everything
he’s got some anectdotes telling about the lives of our forefathers that bring tears to your eyes
he is also quite the economic genous
you can download some of his stuff on his website, he has a forum and streams his broadcast, you must listen to this man
Cliff Varnell @37
Isn’t it time to start calling for Cheney’s resignation and start investigating his crimes and the crimes of his friends at Halliburton?
Hell yes. It was time in 2001!
Perris @ 39
Thank you so much for the tip! Ill do that now!
Cliff Varnell @ 36
this administration was given PRECISE intel telling them there was an impending attack
we were told where the attacks would come from, who was the mastermind, we were told when it was going to happen and where, we were told the specific buildings that were going to be hit
it is almost impossilbe to have such precise intel regarding a terrorist attack…there was NO inteligence failure, the intel was there, we KNEW there would be an attack, we knew where and how
the inteligence community was so certain we were about to be attacked, they flew down and briefed the president in person, they told rice, they told rumsfeld and they were clear, an attack WAS ccomming
their very discription, they were so concerned, “everyone was running around with their hair on fire”
the president took in vacation with this information
this isn’t even the worst part, the worst part is as follows;
if you read the 9/11 report, you will find that clinton was given an almost identical breifing, if you read it, you would think it was the same pdb
clinton took action, put this nation and all her resources on high alert and the attack was avoided
so we have a clear template to follow, action to be taken;
not only did the current administration abandon that template, they actually did nothing
they stood down
norad watched commercial airliners do u turns in the sky for 45 minutes and did nothing
Thom Hartman will be taking Al Franken’s slot on Air America Network.
He does a daily show on KPOJ in Portland Oregon, he is on the Nova M radio network and his website is found here…

Kissinger’s Fingerprints
The Bush administration’s approach to Iran tracks the advice of a certain secretary of State with Vietnam experience. Can the Kissinger model work?
Feb. 1, 2007 – He is 83 now, very gray and a bit saggy around the edges. But nearly 40 years after he first convened the Paris Peace Talks, Henry Kissinger is still playing the globe like a three-dimensional chessboard. And judging from the moves George W. Bush has been making lately, the president appears to be following the old meister’s advice on Iran. Kissinger’s bottom line: don’t negotiate with Tehran until you’ve realigned the forces in the Middle East so that you’re negotiating from a position of strength.
From MSNBC.
katymine @ 44
everyone should really listen to this man and if you get a chance to call in, ask him to tell you what became of the lives of our forefathers, what they risked for us and our children

evening Firedogs,
could someone puhleeze indulge me -
watched Marcy, skimmed the threads and couldn’t find whatever happened on the whole “mystery/surprise” witness ??

you are not whining – all but a few of the cheerleaders from last time are complicitly lining up for ‘em again – and in the very same week the cocktail weenie veil has been pierced and they stand exposed as the tools they are – unless somehow, someone, some entity, slaps them down, they are going to try something ~ and then we will all be more than just “bugged”
although they are stoopid, incompetent and callous enough to do something like that, CW says it’s a shiny distraction wrt to their Iran priapism and one of many stalls to leave the entire tragic mess to 09
Okay, about that September 12th Memo . . .*g*
Christy, Marcy, Jeralyn: Great job this week. Been trying to read all the live blog pieces between work stints. The battle over admitting the Scotty and WaPo thingies was fascinating. I get the sense Fitz is overwhelming the defense with evidence on evidence on evidence, so even when W keeps some of it out, there’s still more than enough. And the Cheney link today will help nail down the overall impression of the smear and the coverup = Obstruction and lying.
Perris, I have been listening to Thom Hartman for years, either in Portland, streaming from the White Rose Society or my XM radio.
It was on his show that I heard about the PBS special on the Supreme Court. It was on last night for two hours. REALLY informative.
katymine @ 33
IIRC, Keith did a little thing yesterday saying that if you think what you heard before about Iraq, you’re hearing again now, it’s because you are. They showed some old clips side by side with the new, and it was irrefutable Bush was saying the same things then Bush is saying now. To his credit, Chris Matthews is pounding on this on a daily basis, and every once in a while you hear it in the rest of the press, but still our Congress sits around, gnashing their teeth, and closing their eyes. They whine that they don’t think the President will do anything overt to Iran without coming back to Congress first. Who the hell are they kidding. Right now it’s nothing but a race to see whether Bush’s defiance will result in an additional front being opened up to include war with Iran, or whether the Congress will wake up and smack him down first. I think Congress is losing, and won’t act until it’s too late and we’re in the middle of a world war of our own making, with us against the rest of the world. We shouldn’t forget that the rest of the world has every reason to be skeptical of our intentions, since we’re the only nation on earth to ever actually have used nuclear or atomic weapons. The way our leadership has been talking and acting, they have no reason to believe that we won’t use them again. It’s disgusting.
Did you hear Thom Hartman absolutely embarass Dinesh D’Snooza last week? Wow. And Thom was polite and respectful while doing it. Hartman’s truly a treasure to broadcasting, and I think he’ll really help AAR gain more audience.
perris- I may be at risk of being led off in handcuffs, but I started looking at the compilation of posts back on the last thread.
First one: Joe Wilson on Gannongate
Jane ends with: “That’s my tin foil hat moment for the day. I’m off now to find the missing 3 minutes from the cockpit recordings for United Flight 93.” So, as I don’t remember the context of that post, Jane may have been having a snarkilicous moment. Hard to assess her intent from our new universe. Still….
Ann in AZ @ 36
I think Jane types more than 120 wpm.
The revolution will not, check that, IS not being televised.
No reason to ever pay attention to Conglomerate Media anymore. Many thanks FDL crew, and I’m sure Molly’s proud of you all!

But I think they said Swopa would be doing the live blogging and Jane would be in the court room.

Not much else to say about choke chamber Cheney.
Another great segment, maybe the best by Marcy so far. Her hair got the wind direction thing figured out ;)
katymine @ 12
I’ve always thought that one big reason they weren’t planted was the existence of Brewster-Jennings. They were an effective counter-WMD operation . . . and so the damage of their cover being blown and taken down by OVP et al was huge.
I remember a while ago Professor Foland was asking about an organizing resolution for the Senate for the 110th Congress. As far as I know, this was actually split up. The committee assignments can be found here:
Daily digest for the Senate: January 12, 2007
Item 11: S. Res. 27 Constituting the majority party’s membership on certain committees for the 110th Congress
Item 13: S. Res. 28 Constituting the minority party’s membership on certain committees for the 110th Congress

TRex is upstairs.
oregondave @ 58
Totally Agree, cannot find a posting on the caravan of WMD/weapons which were found out by Brewster-Jennings just outside of Iraq.
Anyone who has read the PNAC website and their “contract on the world” knows that their whole plan was to take out Iraq (piece of cake) and then take over the whole middle east…. after all, they are only a bunch of uneducated brown people…. it is ALL about Oil…
Control of the worlds Oil and Water, then they can do anything they want.
With over seventy five percent firmly against the escalation those unseen forces who really control the purse strings are once and for all showing we the people who is really in charge of our executive and legislative branch and our military with our beloved troops.
Each passing moment with congress failing to act even against escalation but instead approving new generals and intel chairmen. What the hell are we supposed to think?
Bush repeatedly does exactly what he says he is not going to do. He lies so consistantly that nobody should consult him in any way.
Congress must stop him with the full force of everything in their arsenal.
Anything else is complicity.
All this instant reporting, explanations & summaries & charts & timetables, and now all these links.
Fortunate FDL is good for you, ’cause it definitely is addictive.
Can’t thank you enough everyone!
Woo hoo!
Anyone know where THE book ranks in sales right now, and what it started out as?
- or at least a link where I can look that up?
Would LOVE to have that info. ASAP. I want to share that with the little salesgal when I march in & look for Anatomy of Deceit in our local bookstore(s).
just a thought to make life easier for the live bloggers, there’s a free, open source screen-writing program called celtx. it is really easy to use and provides great shortcuts for writing dialogue. and after all, a trial is mostly dialogue, it also allows you to attach notes to any part of the document, generate reports and organize big complicated writerings. it also works on cross platforms and has built in collaborative features for group projects. i must say, i am humbled and impressed by the talents of marcy and all of the fdl superstars. flipping amazing. kudos.
Adie @ 64: addictive…
Hey. I came up with a terrific slogan today, till I realized what would look like as acronym. DANG!

Well, as they say on the Daily Show (amongst others) “they’ve got it on tape!” Maybe they need to go back to taping everything that occurs in the White House for just such occasions as these.
Scooter “can’t remember his stuff” because
it’s the best lie he could come up with after

So the Brits never NAMED Niger…but the Bush Administration used as fact…the “transaction” established as a forgery by INR back in Oct 2002 (and a report sent to the WH Situation Room) and that the CIA had repeatedly told the National Security Director (Condy Rice) and her assistant (Steve Hadley) to exclude from “matters of fact” in statements by the Administration.

Great observation. Things are going on within the blogosphere that the corporate elites have yet to learn how to control. Yes, the FCC basically granted massive numbers of licenses to “American Family Radio” and right-wing corporate talk radio stations in the 70’s and ’80’s…and shed them of their requirements not to politicize (for the religious broadcasters with non-commercial licenses and tax exemptions) or to have public interest balance and fair response.
But the “internets” have taken on the role of the watchdogs of the corporate elites and extremist Neo-Conservative anti-Constitutionalists that have infiltrated the government.
The revolution will be blogged!
MacDaffy over at Salon’s Table Talk has channeled Tom Lehrer to give us this lovely song explaining TraitorGate:
Who made me the pundit I am today,
The Eminent Scribe that others all quote?
Who’s the confessor that made me that way,
Who ducked attribution whenever I wrote?
One man deserves the credit,
One man deserves the blame,
and Irving Lewis “Scooter” Libby Junior is his name. Oy!
Irving Lewis “Scooter” Libby…
I am never forget the day I first meet the great Scooter Libby!
In two words he told me secret of success in Washington:
Wilson Lies! Wilson lies!
Reading the New York Times will strain your eyes,
This fellow wasn’t sent by Cheney’s guys
To cause our war’s demise
So Wilson lies! Wilson lies! Wilson lies! …
And be sure always to call him, please… “A Jerk”.
And ever since I meet this man my life is not the same,
And Irving Lewis “Scooter” Libby Junior is his name. Oy!
Irving Lewis “Scooter” Libby…
I am never forget the day I am given first original leak to pass. It was on Analytic and Bureaucratic Topology of Valerie Wilson’s Role Within The CIA Hierarchy In Sending
Her Loser Husband Joseph Wilson To Africa!
Bolzhe moi!
This I know from nothing!
But I think of great Scooter Libby and I get idea – haha!
I have a friend at Time,
Who might believe our slime,
And Judy Miller takes a juicy story every time
There’s Pincus at the Post
Bob Woodward is a ghost
If Novak sees that Valerie is C-I-A,
She’s toast!
And when his work is done -
Haha! – begins the fun.
From Novak to Bob
To Pincus a lob
By way of a leak,
At the end of the week,
To Cooper at Time
To Judy’s pique
The slime! The grime!
The sleaze! The crime!
To me the news will run,
Yes, to me the news will run!
And then I write by morning, night,
And afternoon and pretty soon
My name in Wilson’s house is cursed,
When they find out I leaked it first!
And who made me a big success
And brought me wealth and fame?
Irving Lewis “Scooter” Libby Junior is his name. Oy!
Irving Lewis “Scooter” Libby…
I am never forget the day my first article is published.
Every chapter I stole from somewhere else.
Index I copy from old Judith Miller article sourced by “Curveball!”
This article! This article was sensational!
Fitzgerald! Ah! Fitzgerald! Fitzgerald said: “Zhil byl korol’ kogda-to,
Pri njom blokha zhila” (”It stinks”)
But Ted Wells! Ted Wells said:
“Ya idu kuda sam tzar’ peshkom hodil” (”It stinks”)
The American People bought the trial rights for six million dollars,
Changing title to ‘The Eternal Triangle’,
With Richard Cheney playing part of hypotenuse.
And who deserves the credit?
And who deserves the blame?
Irving Lewis “Scooter” Libby Junior is his name.
Oy!
(The original)
During Senate Judiciary Committee hearings two weeks ago, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales claimed there is no express right to habeas corpus in the U.S. Constitution. Gonzales was debating Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) about whether the Supreme Court’s ruling on Guantanamo detainees last year cited the constitutional right to habeas corpus. Gonzales asserted the Court could not cite such a right since “There is no express grant of habeas in the Constitution.”
Specter bristled. “Wait a minute. The constitution says you can’t take it away, except in the case of rebellion or invasion. Doesn’t that mean you have the right of habeas corpus, unless there is an invasion or rebellion?” Specter told Gonzales, “You may be treading on your interdiction and violating common sense, Mr. Attorney General.”
Apparently Gonzo thinks that most of the Amendments also do not confer explicit rights either because they also mainly refer to what the government CANNOT DO or cannot ABRIDGE. As Specter pointed out…when the Constitution says that Mr. Gonzales and Bush cannot take away something, that’s tantamount to saying that it’s a right.
But we can get a real sense of how these myrmidons of tyranny struggle to justify their illegal acts.
Next up…stopping the Presidential Signing Orders!
Christy…Please forgive the long post, but I matched the indictment with the testimony in summary format to show that Fitz has all but made his case!
Count one: obstruction of justice
The grand jury charges that Libby did “knowingly and corruptly endeavor to influence, obstruct and impede the due administration of justice… by misleading and deceiving the grand jury” about when and how he learned that covert operative Valerie Plame worked for the CIA. He is also accused of misleading the grand jury about how he disclosed that information to the media.
* Libby’s own statements to the FBI and his GJ testimony are convicting him on this entire bill.
Here’s the story he tells the FBI and the GJ:
- Around July 10th, Russert asks Libby if he ‘knows that Wilson’s wife works at the CIA?,’ and then
- Russert says that ‘all the reporters know it.’
Libby for his part tells the Feds he was ‘struck’ by what Timmeh was saying. In fact, Libby tells the Feds this is the first he’s heard about Wilson’s wife!
A day or so later, July 12th, Libby says that he told Matt Cooper that ‘other reporters are saying that Wilson’s wife worked for the CIA,’ but that he cautioned Cooper he wasn’t sure this assertion was true. Later the same day, he claims to have told Judith Miller the same things he told Cooper, including that he can’t be sure the assertion is true.
As of Feb. 1st, the testimony from Miller and Cooper does not corroborate Libby’s statements to the FBI and the GJ.
- Miller says Libby never mentioned ‘other reporters are saying that Wilson’s wife worked for the CIA’ or that he wasn’t sure the assertion was true.
- Cooper says Libby never mentioned ‘other reporters are saying that Wilson’s wife worked for the CIA’ or that he wasn’t sure the assertion was true.
- Golly, could you guess what Russert’s going to say about Libby’s story next week?
HE’S BUSTED! GUILTY!
AND RUSSERT GETS TO FINISH HIM OFF NEXT WEEK!
SWEET JUSTICE!
Count two: false statement
The grand jury charges that Libby “did knowingly and willfully make a materially false, fictitious and fraudulent statement” in an FBI investigation. Specifically, the indictment says Libby misled FBI agents in response to questions about a conversation with Tim Russert of NBC News in July 2003.
* Libby told the GJ that he first heard Plame’s name from Timmeh on July 10, when in fact the evidence admitted in the trial already shows he knew her name AND job in early June, and on multiple, multiple occasions came to re-know her name and job before his exchange with Russert.
BUSTED! HE’S GUILTY!
Count three: false statement
Libby is charged with misleading FBI agents about his July 2003 conversation with another reporter, Matt Cooper of Time Magazine.
* Libby told the FBI that in his conversation with Cooper on July 12th, he told Cooper that ‘other reporters are saying that Wilson’s wife worked for the CIA,’ but that he cautioned Cooper he wasn’t sure this assertion was true.
Cooper’s testimony in the trial is that Libby never said to him ‘other reporters are saying that Wilson’s wife worked for the CIA,’ or that Libby cautioned him that he wasn’t sure this assertion was true.
BUSTED! HE’S GUILTY!
Count four: perjury
After taking an oath to testify truthfully, Libby knowingly made a “false material declaration” about his conversation with Russert, the grand jury alleges.
* Libby told the GJ that Timmeh asked him if he was ‘aware that Wilson’s wife worked at the CIA?’ And then he said Timmeh told him that ‘all the reporters know it.’ Libby told the Feds he was struck by this – it was the first he’d heard of Wilson’s wife at the CIA!
It’s been the testimony of five government witnesses that they made known to Libby the fact that Wilson’s wife worked at the CIA in the area of WMDs – before Libby had his exchange with Russert.
HE’S SO BUSTED! HE’S GUILTY!
Count five: perjury
Also under oath, Libby is accused of knowingly making a “false material declaration” about his conversation with Cooper.
* After lying to the FBI, Libby followed it up by lying to the GJ, and saying that he told Cooper that ‘other reporters are saying that Wilson’s wife worked for the CIA,’ but that he cautioned Cooper he wasn’t sure this assertion was true.
Cooper’s testimony is that Libby never tells him that ‘other reporters are saying that Wilson’s wife worked for the CIA,’ or that he cautioned Cooper he wasn’t sure this assertion was true.
BUSTED! BUSTED! BUSTED! HE’S GUILTY!
There is no reasonable expectation that a ‘memory defense’ will overcome Fitz’ case.
Libby is going to do hard time, partially because he is taking the rap for what should OBVIOUSLY be Rove’s charges – obstruction, false statement and perjury related to the Cooper conversation.
Let’s hope Libby falling on his sword, alone and incompetently, won’t frustrate our quest for Justice against a corrupt administration!
Couldn’t resist that “smoking gun” once again comment, could you?
Nice job…but what have you done with Jeralyn?
Watched Marcy’s last report three times – and not just because she’s an attractive woman with an alluring voice like a siren to a fact hound. Am I gushing? Thanks Marcy for letting us experience a more thoughtful and challenging media. What a breath of fresh air.

my only hope, and what is keeping me sane now,is the thought that this might well be a race…between justice and war.
If the sealed indictmentis what I think it is…Fitz is hunting big game…not cheney..not rove..BUSH.for.treason
I am so frustrated that I have to be on a client site this week and can’t be glued to web and keep up with every nuance. I am even more frustrated that I don’t have time to read everything that is being offered by Marcy and Christy and all the rest. Great job guys and thanks ever so much for this important work. Rock On!
cinnamonape @ 86
This seems to be very important. I remember reading it back then; thanks for bringing it back into light!
Great stuff from Marcy.
*WARNING* SEXIST COMMENT COMING
Lipstick.
In this day and age, true heroes and people of uncommon valor are far and few between. But you know what? I think Patrick Fitzgerald is one of my heroes. And I haven’t said that often in my long and prickly life.
May you live long and prosper Mr. Fitzgerald.
Phoenix Woman @ 87
Tnx for transferring that over, Phoenix Woman! It was a work of total genius! I actually am old enough to have just missed having him for a Math Prof at Harvard, and to have gone to a Lehrer concert in Boston’s Symphony Hall (IIRC). My late father-in-law was then recovering from surgery (appendicitis) and had to leave before Lehrer finished — he was laughing so hard it was damaging his sutures (plus it hurt)!
“And Irving Lewis “Scooter” Libby Junior is his name. Oy!” I’m dyin’ ovah heah! Thx again. :)
Nice work. And this unpolished authentic on camera reporting is refreshing in a world of Barbie Doll, Botoxed, face lifted network hacks who feel as canned as the info they relate to us.
Kudos.
Marcy, I LOVE these tv updates. Thank you so much for your hard work. And, girl, that outfit is so cute. You FDL trial reporters are so many light years better than any network TV reporter, it just makes me want to punch all network TV reporters in the groin.
