why shdnt i just quit. they destroy my suitcase with supplies for THEIR newborns. they try to close our surgical unit because they see we are successful. strange people follow me. i hate this. for some reason God asks me to work here. door is triple locked and my local contact will guard. but this is typical. as my mental health improves i become less tolerant of indignities. as on egrBlog i am perfect for this work being mentally ill because no one in their right mind wd do this.

i will wake up tommorow, pick up my fired o’glake, and engage in battle once again. the 2 week old baby with transposition. blood from heart doesnt reach lungs for required oxygen. i find myself in surprising sympathy w this. need some oxygen myself.

This is my recollection. The yellowcake subject came up in a meeting at the CIA that Valerie Plame attended. She said her husband has contacts in that part of Africa. She was told to ask if he would consider going. He said yes with caveats. I don’t remember what they were. As a US Rep, Diplomatic authority or what. And it was pro bono. Also, he never said the OVP sent him. He said the OVP asked the CIA the Niger question and he went at the behest of the CIA.

I recall that Wilson WAS recommended by Plame back in 1999 for a similar trip to Niger when there were reports that IRAN (not Iraq) had attempted to procure yellowcake [Note: THIS has importance as to what Plame’s role in Brewster-Jennings and Counter-Proliferation was…and why the CIA still refuses to declassify he status despite the fact that IRAQ’s nuclear programs have long since been shown to be nada, and the regime is dead and buried].

Wilson, in his debriefing on the 2003 trip mentioned to the debriefer the discoveries on that mission as it related to the reliability of his sources (they were previously forthcoming about Iranian…and Pakistani…efforts to Wilson).

But, it appears that someone else in the CPD initiated contact with Plame about getting her husband to undertake a SECOND mission (the one in 2002) to resolve the VP’s conundrum. Plame was outside the loop regarding any requests re. IRAQ intelligence…someone else who knew of Cheney’s request recalled that Wilson had previously undertaken the mission in 1999…and approached Plame to speak to her husband about undertaking this new inquiry.

Given what they both already knew about the unlikelihood of Niger being capable of shipping such materails out (Plame to her husband: “Some crazy idea about Iraq smuggling yellowcake from Niger.”) Wilson was decidely reticent.

Plame ESCORTED and INTRODUCED Wilson to the “briefing” and confab where his mission was debated between members of the INR, WINPAC, and the CIA’s Directorate of Operations.

When Wilson heard INR’s concerns (which largely matched his own) at his briefing, he insisted on getting the thumbs-up from Babro Owens-Fitzpatrick before he went. She insisted that she be the one to speak to CURRENT Nigerien officials, and that Wilson restrict his discussions to former officials and businessmen that he had close contacts with.

This division of turf seemed to assuage the INR and Directorate of Operations…although both pointed out that any Nigerien actually involved in making some sort of deal would be less than forthcoming. But the hope was that if there were an actual transaction then some source, past or present, may have heard about it. As one of the participants at the meeting offered “It was worth a try.”

I’ve been following the Wilson/Plame case from the beginning & I’d love to follow the trial through your excellent reporting.

What amazes me is that the VP was so intent on finding out whether there was a smidgen of evidence regarding the a Niger-Iraq transaction…and yet he asserts that he never received any of the reports that denied that such a transaction was plausible?

Remember that Joe Wilson’s debriefing “circulated through normal intelligence channels”; that US Ambassador to Niger, Barbro Owens-Fitzpatrick sent a report back to the State Department (INR) declaiming the implausibility of said “contracts”; and that the highest ranking US General in NATO, General Carlton Fulford, sent the Pentagon (DIA?) his statement that rumors of such a transaction were rubbish. Both Kilpatrick and Fulford debriefed Wilson about his findings when they were all together in Niger.

Yet NONE OF THESE REPORTS EVER ATTRACTED NOTICE OF CHENEY????

Either there was a selective filter in place…or Cheney’s lying!
