I’m just concerned that there is too much support for action against Iran that the neocons and BushCo won’t let this once in a lifetime chance slip away. I can’t foresee any military action in Iran that doesn’t result in decades of mutual killing.

Hell, there’s probably going to be decades of killing in Iraq, as it is.

As for Iran, I doubt Congress will do anything substantive to stop Bush, or at least, anything in time. Someone will want to hold hearings, or request–and then wait for–a new NIE on Iran. If that happens, Bush and Co.™ will see their window of opportunity start to close, and there’s more likelihood of an attack than not.

yup…just to be clear, I agree with you and support your efforts on that resolution or any possible resolution that might have an effect. I think these are needed for future accountability, I hope so anyway.

Imagine the timing: By the end of 2007, impeachment takes place; then we have Cheney for about a year…to further embarass the Rupublicans…Seems sweet.

Can they BOTH be impeached? Then we’d have Pelosi in…Wow. Sweet dreams, all!

War Powers Act comes into play on this. Bush can do it all by his little lonesome on an emergency basis. All he has to do is notify Congress of the reasons in either sixty or ninety days (sorry, can’t remember at the moment which). At that point, Congress can authorize or tell the Prez no more. That’s roughly the way the War Powers Act works.

That was my understanding of just one of the ways he can legally do it. hell…many are cheering this.

It’s the same as the illegal surveillance issue and the war in Iraq. They claim, or actually have, the authority to initiate and conduct actions that have irreversible consequences. We can’t leave Iraq because the original mistake made it too dangerous now. BushCo didn’t care so much about how we got into Iraq, only that we did.

Oh, yeah, I support all of these resolutions but I don’t think BushCo will recognize them as legitimate. These guys have created laws, some with Congressional approval, to give them the power that these resolutions want to block.
