Fitzmas!!!
how’s the jury look?
Zed?
And Jane and Christy!
Good stuff from The Horse’s Mouth about Solomon’s answers to questions about it in yesterday’s chat. Short version: story was justified because Edwards hasn’t answered some candidate disclosure questions about the sale, even though the deadline for filing disclosure hasn’t happened yet.
Yeah, right. Can you say “smear”?
wow – glad to see someone else show up –
thought I broke it.
Hi Christy!
Havin’ fun yet?
The crew’s been stewing a bit over how on earth you can sit in there & keep a straight face.
Hope the mask isn’t pinching too much. It was the closest one I could find. None out there with such gorgeous red hair. But we did our best.
Cheers. Get yer rest, now, & don’t stay up too late. ;->
If Debbie didn’t like the Edwards story, and I didn’t like the Edwards story, does that make me Debbie’s new best friend?
Wow, I bet she said some swears when she saw her internal Omblog published!
Great job, bloggers extraordinaire, and enjoy lunch!!

Mentioning that Scooter went to Columbia Law School should send up red flags to anyone who follows legal ethics.
Columbia Law Faculty sat on its collective hands while Columbia University expelled students who blew the whistle on university mismanagment. CLS also was tellingly quiet when Columbia’s egregious (sorry, e) sexual misconduct policy (and lack of any version of due process) was roundly criticized in the national and international academic and popular presses. And who can forget the more recent Middle East studies fiasco that Columbia tried to spin to the NYTimes (even the Columbia student-run paper refused to bite)?
Columbia, as you know, controls so many journalism awards that its misdoings frequently get a media pass (certainly it does from the NYTimes). And its law school routinely turns a blind eye to university shenanigans and corruption.
So, yeah, Scoots went to Columbia Law School where going along to get along is the name of the game. It all makes sense.

toobez were clogged a bit.
“adiefactor” kickin’ in
loading slow here. Can we meet-up somewhere if we break the toobz here?
My faith in my country and it’s legal system has been restored!!
OMG thanks to all for the live blogging. I am riveted. Fitz rocks! The truth will sink this administration!
The truth is always so powerful. Oh and powerpoint! Yeah!
My work productivity is being destroyed by FDL’s fantastic liveblogging today. But popcorn futures are going to rise.
From that link: “This looks like character assassination by insinuation, and I would have thought the Post was above that.”
Bob Somerby to the earthtoned courtesy phone please. Bob Somerby to the earthtoned courtesy phone.

The toobs are very very slow. I am going to the main page and going to skip comments till later. I think the refreshing everyone is doing is making is more excruciating.
On the Post and the Edwards house sale story. The point is that it doesn’t matter now. It is like the Obama madrassa story. They can say it is false or problematic after the fact, but they got it out there. And that is the sort of thing that tends to “stick” as in “Oh yeah that Edwards guy, but don’t you remember some sleezy deal with his house sale. Better find someone else who is not corrupt, this one is going to get clobbered by the Repubs and the press. Frankly it is not enough to say your sorry on this. As with the Judith Miller printing of lies in the NYT, the journalist who wrote that piece (even if it was accepted by the editors) should be given walking papers or at least a $10,000 fine. Something like that brings down every journalist. Strange that we now have to have a “private” blog, Media Matters, to address the media lies and distortions. Where is the journalistic self-policing? Columbia journalism school – like Columbia law? – you guys are looking pretty grim in the face of all this. There needs to be accountability, and it seems as if the J-Schools are where it needs to start.
I hope Limpbaugh is playing a song for all his listeners in denial today. REM – it’s the end of the world as we know it…

They should be black balled like my dad was in the 70’s. He was blackballed from the Detroit free press for starting a union. That was wrong he won his suit and told them to take the job and shove it.
The journalists who spread lies should never get a byline again. Period.
They have to go back to being an intern and start over doing something else.
Could we start an FDL popcorn brand, like Girl Scout cookies? Good fund raiser IMHO.
Ok, somebody page Ted Stevens… my tubez are clogged.
Tried FDL “Classic” at blogspot, it also seems to be jammed. windcatpond also still loading.
MsAnnaNola – sorry your Dad had to go through that. You should be proud of him for his role in the unionizing DFP.

No doubt! Media reform needed NOW!

Can we get a break down please: M-F, above-below 30, urban-rural, religion, race, salary, education – That sort of thing. And, it would be great to have it in hand before the afternoon show starts. Oh, and thanks!
CNN.com has a story about Is Bush already a lame duck?’
The closing paragraphs:
However, in an interesting case of politics makes strange bedfellows, it is the Democrats that could become Bush’s greatest allies in rescuing him from the “margins” in the twilight of his presidency.
“The Democrats can’t afford to do nothing for two years,” said Matalin. “This last midterm election was not about being in a free fall or a stall for two years.”
According to some political observers, the fact that the president has run his last campaign could become his greatest advantage.
“I really think as bad as the polls are, George Bush has a huge opportunity to surprise the country in the State of the Union by going back to the old George Bush,” said former Clinton aide Lanny Davis.
“He now has two years left where he is not worried about the right wing of his party and throwing red meat. … I do believe it is authentic for George Bush to govern this country for the center.”
So Mary Matalin and Lanny Davis are now experts on how to run the country?
(And the answer to the question should be: Yes, since Jan 20, 2005, and where have you guys been for the last fifty or so years?)

What’s wrong with Josh? I’ve been a liberal for a long time and also a big fan of Josh Marshall.
Don’t get it..
The corporatists better take every free shot they can at Edwards now.
When he’s president, they’re going to get taken down a few pegs.
