In terms of affecting what the administration does in Iraq any bill is a waste of time. Beond the veto question, Bush would simply ignore anything he doesn’t like. The only way to stop Bush is to remove both Bush and Cheney from office-and that won’t happen, because a solid 2/3rds of the GOP base shares their worldview. The only chance to stop whatever Bush is going to do was lost in November 2004. There is nothing to do now but see the GOP gets the blame for the next two years so we can start to repair the damage in 2009.

Are there any other legal avenues to pursue if the P/VP do not honor a legal eviction from the WH?

Hey Now! Dodd knows the deal — the election is over and friends or foes they each stand on their own, as grown-ups and politicians. And Connecticut voters are realizing more each day that they have only one Democratic Senator in DC, just like in the last Congress. Guests are hesitant to come to FDL? Where they stood on Lieberman / Lamont in the election should not matter. Where they stand on Sen. Lieberman’s (I, CT) support for Bush’s escalation is fair game.

During the wars in El Salvaor and Nicaragua, Dodd positioned himself as the liberal spokesman for restraint and new policies but endorsed methods that were not progressive – for example, calling for cutting funding in half rather than stopping it all together when we knew those funds were fueling the death squads. I hope he has learned to push for real change in the intervening years.

So if, someone were to question Senator Dodd when he’s here about these things, would these questions be considered ‘in-bounds’?

Howie’s recently back from three or four South American countries – can’t remember if he crossed the border into Brazil when he was at the falls – so he might have some insights on Argentina, especially, which he can use as an entry for Dodd to share his insights with us. Besides Siun’s comments re the El Salvador War (I’d forgotten about that one, Siun!), Dodd has been too critical of Chavez and of the situation in Equador. IMHO…..

Like why did CNN and Lou Dobbs call Chavez a communist on loudobbtonight two nights ago?

On CNN TV, day before yesterday,
Dobb spoke of the leftist Latin American countries, as a headline banner traveled below, showing headlines with the word “communist” continuosly.

I wondered aloud what that was all about and was mad as !!!!………… Now I know it’s because Chavez will be building an oil pipeline to Brazil and then onto other Latin American countries in the region, and they will build their own refineries as well, which will make Venezuela and other Latin American countries pretty independent.

It’s about Chavez at a “five nation Mercosur trade bloc” summit held in Rio De Janeiro.
There he spoke of an OIL pipeline being constructed to Brazil and other nearby countries and how they’ve already broken ground on a refinery near Recife, Brazil.
“The presidents discussed working together to increase their ability to refine their countries’s oil, said Marco Aurelio Garcia, a special aide to Lula.”

Just for the record Boxer did in fact generate wrathful comments before and after she stubbornly hit the ground in CT for JoeHo in addition to yours. Rest assured your comments unquestionlly deserve a Lead by Doing gold star here at FDL. I’m just saying that it is hard to quantify the actual numbers of we Golden Staters who cannot forgive her including at least three of her own staff and two major donors. Speaking only for myself certainly – rest assured Sen. Boxer has only herself to blame for her monumental arrogance and betrayal of this once devoted constituent.

Three of her staff huh? I’d like to read more about that if you care to share. No staff names needed but I’d sure like to know who the donors are. Maybe they can help line up a challenger for the ‘10 primary.

Of course, “no” is an acceptable answer, but I’d sure like to know more if you want to share.
