"These are the times that try men's souls," wrote Thomas Paine, the Glenn Greenwald of the 1700's, "The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph."
I know that many of us are upset in the wake of Jane's news earlier today. It seems particularly cruel that this is happening just as the Libby trial is kicking off, but I know that together we can ride it out. We will stand by our Fearless Leader, Captain Hamsher, unblinking in the face of adversity, strong and proud together through the storm.
We've all worked very hard to get to this point, but none so hard as Jane and Christy. They made this blog what it is, and a large part of that, especially early on, was their A-plus coverage of all things Plame-related. Now, Firedoglake has arrived, y'all! Courtroom access, boy howdy!
You know, I'm still kind of trying to figure out what my role in all of this will be. I'm pretty well-informed on the Libby case, but next to emptywheel, looseheadprop, Jane, Christy, and the others, I'm just a well-scrubbed, hustling rube with a little taste, and from what I understand, Judge Watson has a firm No-60ft.-Carnivores-in-the-Courtroom policy. Still, if in fact it turns out to be my job to be chief cook and bottle washer at the Plame House while I'm there in February, riding the train in from my Dad's place in the suburbs to fix coffee, wash the dishes, and put on a pot of chili, then so be it. I will be honored to be Cap'n Hamsher's gopher and cabin-boy. Ahoy! Avast, ye scurvy dogs!!
Being kind of generally highly-strung and sensitive, I was pretty pole-axed by the news of Jane's diagnosis. (And you know, that's kind of pitiful, when someone tells you they have cancer and then spends the entire rest of the phone call talking YOU down off the ledge…) But I'll tell you all pretty much what she told me.
We're going to make it through this. Take a deep breath, say a prayer, and have a little faith. We're going to rock this motherf*cker down.
Frankly, I'm not sure who I am more afraid for, Scooter or the cancer cells.
Like Annie Lennox says, "Hold your head up, movin' on…Keep your head up, come on, come on…Hold your head up…Keep your head up!"
God bless you all and good night.
Much love,
T.Rex, Esq.

About Firedoglake
Fitzmas!
My mom told me Jane’s going to be just fine.
“Plame House.” I like that.
No, really. Is it too late to set this up with MTV as a new edition of “The Real World?”
Ed*ard Teller @ 2
I think your mom is right. Besides, the last thing God needs right now is Jane blogging about the crappy way he runs a universe. He wouldn’t dare.
I just checked in and read the earlier post … which was like a gut punch.
Best wishes to you, Jane! Indomitable spirit counts for a lot.
And reading Pachacutec’s courtroom posts, I was in awe that Firedoglake is blossoming into something so totally frackin cool. Amazing.
ME!
All Life is Eternal. The hearts that Jane has opened in this community are with her. I fell into that pillow of Compassion a few months ago and found it very sustaining.
Go Jane!
Trex,
Thank you for the support you are giving Jane, that is wonderful! It is never easy when it is someone you care for. And Thank You for all your wit on this blog, the intelligent thoughts of a 60 footer are something you just can’t find any old where.
AZ Matt @

Muchas gracias.
All of us love Jane, so of course we’re sticking by her through this. She’d sure do it for any of us!
We are a family, here, and that’s how we’ll get through it. As a family, united. No matter what comes down the pike, we can face it and conquer it together.
It’s the progressive way.
Very sad and then very happy going from one post to the next. Like a tilt-o-whirl of love (gonna make me puke my corn dog up).
I’m definately a long-time lurker, but I’ve been reading this blog daily since around the time of Hurricane Katrina and Jane even sent me a personal response to a comment back then. So now I sit here in my room with tears in my eyes b/c I feel like a friend has given me hard news and there’s nothing I can do to help. I’ve de-lurked long enough to say that my thoughts and prayers will remain with Jane and all the FDL family that I visit silently each evening. My love to you, Jane. Stay strong and come back to kick some ass real soon.
Jane – You are our Superwoman.
Now, you have to fight off that damn kyptonite cancer and continue fighting for Truth, Justice, and the American Way.
Gotham (and America) need you and are praying for you.
Holding all FDL close tonite, dear theropod. Thanks for this post. Hope you are holding up.
What a day — classy courtroom blogging and Jane’s news. Are we just a world of contrasts?
I’m delurking. When my son was young, after I sang to him, we did a long litany of “God bless…” mentioning important people and pets in his life. Tonight I will reprise our old tradition to say “God bless Jane.” Jane, you are a blessing to all of us; turnabout is fair play.
TRex @

Yep, it sure is.
I looked long and hard for a youTube clip of Micheal Palin and John Belushi to juxtapose with the idea of Captain Jane and a 60 foot cabin theropod…to no avail.
But, here’s the transcript:
The Adventures of Miles Cowperthwaite
Whew… today I
Left DC via airplane to fly to Atlanta.
For a big hardass in all things physical and mechanical, I am not the happiest flier. Had to be strong, though… Mrs, PRex is an even less happy flier.
Got to Atlanta, spent so long at the airport waiting for baggage that I wasn’t able to go home and prepare for tonight’s show,
which I just played.
Then I read from bottom to top today’s entries here at FDL…
As someone has already said… what a gutpunch.
Jane, I don’t pray much. Well. Never, actually. Trying to figure out if these old knees bend all the way to the floor. We’ll know soon.
Godspeed.
I’m only a lurker but, what a blow! Jane, you don’t have any idea how important you are to those of us who don’t have your courage and strength. Hang in there and know that we out here in Lurkland count on you and are praying for you. GO SAINTS! GO JANE!
TRex…Sit down my friend, remain calm and you
will do fine. You have been amazing over the past months and you will continue to be the leader that you are!! Our Jane will come through this just fine…how can she lose with this entire family praying and thinking about her…we have her covered from top to her toes!! You watch her
walk in on you on Feb 4th!! That is when you will be the man of the hour…chief cook and bottle washer!! Are you up to it?? You have two weeks to get ready!! :) Should you need any help, sing out and the family is here to give you a hand!!
Cheerio!!
Maureen
Highest regards and best wishes to Jane. Keep on kicking ass.
(And you know, that’s kind of pitiful, when someone tells you they have cancer and then spends the entire rest of the phone call talking YOU down off the ledge…)
I knew I liked you for a reason other than your cool horn-rims TRex. I think you’re like me in the way that you can look your own trials and tribulations square in the face and wink at them or laugh. But faced with the pain and trials of someone you love and the rage borne of impotence in the face of things we can’t effect or control and you’re a wreck.
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change…” is definitely the hardest of the three divine requests in the Serenity Prayer. At least for me it is.
Dinesh Deloser is gonna be on Colbert tonight.
Thanks TRex, lmao.
John Casper @ 23
I’m thenthitive!!
Doesn’t this version of “Sweet Dreams” kick ass?
Trex, if I were in Jane’s position and I was only allowed one person to support me, love me, cheer me up and cry with me, that person would be you. You’re a sweetie.
Oh and Colbert just kicked the dems (Levin) and their nonbinding resolution re the escalation in the teeth.
kerpow! Thanks Mr. Colbert, well deserved and well done, imho.
Nice piece, TRex, and thanks for all you’re doing for FDL, and for Jane. I’m sure it means a lot to her, and to us. Keep on keepin on. See ya tomorrow.
No rolls per Amatos orders, just soft pretzels or Ben and Jerrys.
Trying to plan your roll in this situation would most likely change who you are naturally, lets not mess up a wonderful thing, okay? *s*
TRex, honey!
I gotta walk away from the ‘puter now to do some stuff around the house I still have the energy for, before it gets too late.
But I couldn’t leave without giving you a great big hug — and thanking you for this wonderful post. It evokes just the right spirit — nourishing for Jane, for all of us Pupsters, and for you, yourself.
You’re right about us being a family!
And I never knew how much I would appreciate having a 60-foot therapod for a brother!
You’re the best.
Persiflage @ 26
Aw.
You know, I have fulfilled that role a few times in my life. I’m a good codependent. Throw me out a window and someone else’s life flashes before my eyes.
Thank You for the post TRex. What Jane is enduring puts our lives in perspective. I believe that when one survives such a crisis, we are stronger because of it. Considering Jane has been through this twice before, it explains a lot about the person I’ve come to know through her words.
May you prosper Jane, Godspeed.
.
TRex @ 31
Uh. . . I think those are windows on each floor. ;>)
TRex @ 31
Must have been on the ground floor.
Part of what got me through my treatment was the love of this community. Can you imagine the loving energy Jane must feel at this point?
(The other thing that got me through was TRex’s excellent, wonderful, intelligent, sensitive, funny, and yet pointed posts. I’m so glad you are in her (and our) corner, Mr. Rex.)
Hi TRex– thanks for this post and major hugs to Ms. Jane.
No, no, Mrs. K8! You’re the best!
TRex @ 31
Good friends are more important than just about anything. Enjoy the friends you will be with in the Plame House!
TRex @ 31
LOL! Thanks for that laugh, I needed it. You know it’s not so much that I’m worried about Jane, she’s strong, motivated and well-informed. She will fight like a tiger. It’s the outpouring of love and support from all the wonderful commenters that touches me the most. What a terrific group of people the FDL crew have attracted. Oh, I’m getting all teary now. Hand me a tissue.
Jane, you have been an absolute inspiration to me and I’m sure many others who have been reading your political commentary these last few years.
I wish you well. Take care of yourself, and we’ll all be waiting for your return to FDL.
Pachacutec blogging of today’s Libby Trial events is up on Huff Po. Just to let you know FDL is reaching out to the masses in Bloggolandia!

TRex, dear therapod, I’m sure you will be the best cabin boy evah. I mean, for goodness sake, (eyes rolling) who else could do that with such style and panache!
Because of you taking on Late Nite, TRex, Jane gets to rest in the evenings. I would say that is the best possible gift – the gift of your time here.
A gift she shares with us every night when we get to read what’s in your heart.
TRex –
Scooter or the cancer cells? Who says it’s an either/or proposition? Take ‘em on one at a time, sure. One or the other? Not a chance.
We wouldn’t be here, if Jane hadn’t had the vision and gifts to reach out and make this place happen. Now it’s out turn, to give it up for her.
Thanks for being your generally high-strung, sensitive, 60-ft scaly self!
Since we’re absorbed in a trial concerned with Dick Cheney’s heavy hand, this article from tomorrow’s Haaretz about who the Syrians and Israelis chose in the US administration to keep informed of the progress of their secret peace talks.
Deadeye DickSpray the Target Cheney, that’s who.By Akiva Eldar, Haaretz Correspondent
Senior American government officials received regular reports of the secret meetings that took place in Europe between a former Israeli official and a Syrian representative, Haaretz has learned.
Senior officials in Washington told Haaretz that U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney was kept in the picture about these indirect talks between Syria and Israel.
Ibrahim (Ayeb) Suleiman, the Syrian representative, also said this at his meetings with former Foreign Ministry director general Alon Liel, adding that Cheney had made no move to stop him from participating in the talks. Suleiman is a Washington resident.
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/814534.html
Why Cheney? Did the ISG group know about these talks? Did Cheney hold this info for himself? From the president?
Had to delurk to send more love and light to Jane and, of course, to my favorite theropod, TRex. What a day of ups and downs for y’all, and isn’t life just like that sometimes. Thank you, all of you, for what you do here on this blog — a oasis of sanity and community.
I saw a news story that Condi might be a witness at this trial.
I wonder how this will play to the DC jury….just wondering.

Humph. I could have written that! Cancer is a series of losses no matter the outcome, and with any loss you have the opportunity to gain insight from those around you. Jane has the needed trio to fight the good fight – good information, good doctors and people who care and who will support her. I wish her the best.
BTW, when Annie Lennox was on a tour here (U.S.) two years ago with Sting, her ’cause’ for the tour was childhood cancer. Some things come around…
TRex — you will be the snark-bringer when Jane isn’t up to bringing her usual daily dose of snark in the days ahead.
It’s as obvious as those massive green therapodian thighs you have going on.
She chose you because you can snark for two and still have snark to spare, even if at the time it wasn’t obvious why she would need to have an ammo dump replete with snarkoliciousness between you and her.
After a long brain-draining soul-sucking day of listening to parsing and lies, we simply need snark delivered in its pure, unadulterated form…and Jane will need prodigious quantities to heal as well.
Capice? Snark on, babe.
Now what is the first thing we’d do with 1.2 Trillion Dollars? (From NYT)

She thinks that illegal drugs could have been a delivery system for Po-210.

What say you?
Hey ET — in re: that exchange earlier this evening about the rumor that the White House modeled its anti-terror policies on “24″…
Yet another perfect example of these morons getting the “art imitates life” equation completely bassackwards.
Like Ledeen’s Dadaist foreign policy; Dadaism is supposed to reflect our current joke passing as foreign policy, not the other way around.
Wanted to add that bit earlier, but I was too busy…
Just for the record, nobody has been better at filling in for me last-minute when stuff would come up than TRex. He’s gotten pretty creative on the fly. He’s an amazing friend and his blogging abilities continue to blossom. A treasure both as a friend and a writer.
t-rex please keep us posted on jane’s recovery and as i’m on the east coast[new jersey] if something needs doing for jane i’m nearby and I’M free to travel lol. hold your head up t-rex!
We are all very proud of this lizard you have brought us, Jane.
neokneme @ 52
$4,000 per American, roughly, could buy a whole lot of stuff. Energy research, space programs (trip to Mars?), education, basic research of the sort that’s been neglected for the last six years (including biological research in genetics, a road to knowledge about cancer), and a whole bunch of other stuff. All of that would be a far better way to spend the money than using it to make Iraqis even more miserable than they already were.
Thanks for the link. I’m glad the NYT is finally working out what the consequences of an unnecessary war might be.
Jane Hamsher @ 56
You know, 60 footers have a tough time squeezing through doorways. Now his head will get all swollen up and it will be more difficult! It is great that you do compliment him, he does deserve it. He will need to get a larger hat.
Absolument, Jane.
And blossom, indeed; TRex’s “Late Nite FDL: Blather, Rinse, Repeat (The Five Stages of Blogging)” was an instant classic, one of his finest pieces yet.
That 4 grand could literally close up the donut hole in medicare part D for senior citizens. So it wouldn’t exist to plague them without mercy every year. I hate seeing that come up at work with people on fixed incomes like that. Most of the meds i dispense are NOT cheap. So finding you have to pay 3,600$ before and after christmas before the yearly turnover on january 1st? Horrible.
Premiums for gods know how long non senior citizens too. So much that could be done with that money, Cujo! Education too.
Josh at TPM sends Courage, Hope, Prayers for Jane.
Amazing how something so challenging for one can be unifying for all of us.
ACK! Here I am.
Sorry, everybody. I just got off the phone. Let me catch up.
Alright, I gotta’ hit the hay. Will be seeing Marcy tomorrow afternoon/evening, will send her your best, gang.
Don’t forget, FirePups, to order your copy of Anatomy of Deceipt pronto, you’re going to need it soon to keep score!! Damned great price, too, a bargain in terms of entertainment and education dollars invested.
Sending healing thoughts your way, Jane.

Hmmmmm. I will need to check that out.
It is as plausible as my cigarette theory. And given that Dr. Hillhouse thinks the crime shows signs of being outsourced to gangster-types, it would make sense that if they know how to smuggle anything, it’s drugs.
Double hmmmm.
I would really like to meet Larisa Alexandrovna someday. I just think she’s the most fascinating person.

Awwwww.
*blushes*
I was just sitting there at the soda counter at Schraft’s when Ms. Hamsher walked in and said, “Why, you’re just as pretty as a pictcheh, aincha, kiddo? You wanna be in show business?”
The rest, as they say, is hysteria.
Pfffffffft. It’s already so big, it has its own weather systems. Any bigger and it’ll start to have a gravitational pull.
I know that this treatment is years down the road, if it works at all, but still, I thought it was pretty damn neat: they’re looking at using a common cold virus to fight cancer.
Amazing what humans can do.
Jane Hamsher @

My thoughts and prayers to you, Jane. Thank you for your courage and your strength in leading this pack. You are a lioness, get well soon.
De-lurking after months of lurking after a month or two of de-lurking after months and months of lurking:
Due to job-from-hell, I’ve no time to swim in the G’Lake but I read regularly, even printing out threads to take on planes so I can catch up.
I followed Redd here from a Plame diary on Kos. I recall snorting at TrexSnark at Eschaton (you are the same 60 ft ‘pod, no?) And here I met Jane and all you terrific folks who, everyday, fill me with knowledge and hope and laughter. Lots and lots of laughter.
This past hell-i-daze, two of my friends entered treatment for breast cancer. They’re both doing well, thanks be to the goddess. But they fought and are fighting with all the strength, hope and outrageous passion they can muster. I realized just a few days ago, that they are not just cancer survivors, they are warriors. Cancer warriors.
That’s Jane. A warrior. A badass, righteous warrior with a brigade of wonderful, loving friends at her side. Just what the doctor ordered.
You’re in my heart and prayers, Jane.
Blessings to you.
Still here, trying to close a jillion open tabs without losing all my newly found Plame research.
Have had the pleasure of talking several times with Larisa. She is wickedly smart, quick as a whip, has street sense that most Americans don’t have. Call it a Russian sensibility, I guess.
I buy the multiple exposure theory, makes more sense, think Hillhouse supports this. But doped cigarettes don’t seem right to me, sorry, the symptoms didn’t match. Larisa has details on victims w/bloody noses which makes inhalation a possibility, but it could be other toxins, too. Bloody noses sounds more like direct contact than inhalation; breathing problems would suggest inhalation.
A few too many heart attacks recently, too, like an epidemic of lard-eating among hydrocarbon-trading folks…
Finally, only this tab left. Enjoy pondering on the Po-210.
She really is, you know. A Leo. The only creature in God’s creation who emerges from the womb shouting, “ONE IN EVERY COLOR! ONE IN EVERY COLOR!”
We’ll be here for both of you, TRex and Jane. It’s good to be a family.
Jane, I send you light and healing prayers for your challenge.
namaste!
Good luck Jane. God bless you.
I love them. They are often so bleak and sentimental at the same time. I can’t explain it, really. The darkest people who will ever make you laugh all night. They have a toughness.
I am basing this on the few Russians who I have met, though, and may be generalizing. But see, the whole Polonium cigarette thing to me would be very Russian.
“Ah, Litvinenko, my friend. You shouldn’t smoke. It will geev you cancer.”
That seems very Russian to me.
TRex,
If I were facing what Jane is facing, I would sure want you on my support team. I’m sure you will do a great job for Jane, as you do for us practically every night.
My best wishes to both of you, and to the entire crew at the Plame House.

Some good thoughts your way, Jane. I wandered here a few months ago during the Haggard inanity. I tend to lurk at late night, but the various posts by everyone is worth my regular time here. Even with my now insane school and workload.
My grandma is fighting off her second bout of cancer too. You sound like you’d get along famously with her. She’s a long master of canadian snark. ^_^ And why i love TRex’s particular brand of satire and wit so well. I’ve been hearing a version something like it for most of my life.
Looking forward to more laughs and a wealth of information to fight with! We’ve got your back, Jane.

Well it must be a really bad moon rising tonight. It is 2am where I am, its the date of my mother’s birthday, the first one since she died. I just resigned from a project I thought had some promise, and my sister in law April is having her mastectomy/hysterectomy on Monday because of HER battle with breast cancer. Now I’ve found out Jane is battling with this again. Not a very good evening at all. Can it get any worse? Did we nuke anyone?

That’s what I was thinking when I read Jane’s earlier post. She’s already beat it twice, why is the cancer stupid enough to come back for another round?
Jane, if you’re reading this, visualize the cancer as a Republican, then kick it’s whining, pathetic ass, like you always do with the human form of repubs.

I actually had a DSL installer tell me he wasn’t going to do what the company promised to do – bring the phone line into the office, install a data port and configure the router. He configured the router, but wouldn’t bring the line into the office.
I asked “so you’r not going to do what your company says you will do?” and started to read the email they sent.
“You can read it to me if you want,” he said. “it’s not like you’re going to get me fired.”
“I don’t want to get you fired, I -”
“I won’t be reprimanded either.”
I got on the phone with his company {cough} Covad {cough} and they told me some installers will do that work and others won’t. “You, unfortunately, got one who won’t”
The screaming in my head was not confined there.

I appreciate the offer but my situation is way past the worried stage. There is more to my situation that I wont go into here that has me worried even more than these burdens. Just keep me in your positive thoughts and prayers and know that I appreciate that you care enough to say so.

Wolcott turned me onto Dennis the Peasant. At one time, he was going to become part of Pajama Media, or so he thought. Turns out that would have been a bad idea, because DtP, unlike the folks who work at PJs, actually has a mind that’s in working condition. He can be quite fun to read at times.

Help?
Sorry to interrupt discussion, but is there a moderator in the house?
I popped back in for a moment, and saw that “Skeptic” left me a message at the end of the “Sky Trip” thread below, so I tried to leave a response to that.
Somehow what I wrote triggered the spam filter (don’t know how), so if a mod could free it up for me, I’d be grateful.
I’m just giving the heads-up up here, since I don’t know if mods keep an eye on earlier threads or not. And I don’t know when discussion on old threads is closed.
Thanks very much!!!!

I can answer this question. At least I can answer it by saying that when a thread is closed, you’ll see an error message when you try to post a comment. There’s often a note at the bottom of the thread, saying “Comments are closed” as well. It appears they’re staying open for 24 hours now, but that period is variable.
If you have any doubts, I’d suggest reloading the page before trying to post something you’ve spent a long time writing.

Thank you both, for release from mod jail and good advice, respectively.

I’ve got a night of intercessory prayer ahead of me — I’m adding you and your family to the list of those I am interceding for (and not just for tonight). Will be thinking of you.
I am thinking of her and pulling for her total recovery from this. She was and is a big inspiration for me ever since FDL first appeared in the ’sphere.
Got a chance to meet her at YK2006 and was not disappointed.
Get well soon Jane!

The candle I lit for her this afternoon looks like it will burn at least a week, maybe two. I bought it in a very powerful place from some Tarahumara indians in Mexicos, Copper Canyon. Now I know why I waited so long to burn it.
Fini – Man I don’t know what to say but hang in there amigo. You have a remarkable spirit in you and most of the time lifes BS is temporary.
and btw, all mods rock. Thank you so much.
I just “heard” the news and am still a bit dumbfounded. …
May you be bouyed by our thoughts and prayers, Jane, and have a speedy recovery so you can get back to the things to which you’ve devoted so much effort.
fighting cancer myself for nearly 2 years, chemo again now, i say “hang in there, jane” live each day just like always. your chance of having a good day today is just as good as anyone else.
trex-in amerika, we never have enough indians, but way too damned many chiefs. being a great indian to an ailing chief is the best present you can give.
If there’s anyone who can kick this stupid cancer’s ass, I bet all my chips on Jane Hamsher.
During the Lamont campaign I decided I must go see Jane and then I did some volunteer woek for Ned after that. I recalled how she and the poodles drove across country to work for Ned to energize that campaign. I had to meet her and I did. What a calm strong and humble lady she is… and easy on the eyes.
Jane is an incredible woman who has given so much hope to this nation with her sharp insights and no BS posts here at the lake. What a magnificent Jane is.
I think she is such an inpiration for so many people and now we are going to bounce that right back at her… and she will come out of this way stronger. We are now going to send back all the good vides she gave us tenfold.
Jane… feel the love and heal with it… We are not letting this have anything other than a sweet outcome.
Take care of yourself… We’ll be right here waiting for you.

The financial links between those who lied, and those who benefited as a direct result of the lies (primarily in the oil and military industries – to say nothing of Israel) are clear. The evidence that the President’s speech knowingly included a lie about the Niger Yellow Cake is proveable in a court of law under oath.
That the Vice President knew for a fact that the claim was based on a forgery in advance of the President’s speech is a given (he ordered that the forgery be created and sent Ledeen to do it). That he instructed others to ensure that the sentence made it into the speech is also a given. What did the Vice President know, and when did he know it?
Every time the Vice President knowingly lied to the American People to advance the cause of war, he committed a crime against the United States which both directly harmed other US citizens and directly enriched himself.
Indict Dick Cheney for Fraud.
Section 1031. Major fraud against the United States
(a) Whoever knowingly executes, or attempts to execute, any scheme or artifice with the intent -
(1) to defraud the United States; or
(2) to obtain money or property by means of false or fraudulent pretenses, representations, or promises, in any procurement of property or services as a prime contractor with the United States or as a subcontractor or supplier on a contract in which there is a prime contract with the United States, if the value of the contract, subcontract, or any constituent part thereof, for such property or services is $1,000,000 or more shall, subject to the applicability of subsection (c) of this section, be fined not more than $1,000,000, or imprisoned not more than 10 years, or both.
(1) the gross loss to the Government or the gross gain to a defendant is $500,000 or greater; or
(2) the offense involves a conscious or reckless risk of serious personal injury.
The outing of Valarie Plame falls into precisely the same category, as it was specifically designed to ensure that the lead up to war continued apace…
Consummate diplomats like Wilson typically do not speak of “lies.” So outraged was Wilson, though, that this bogus story had been used to “justify” an unprovoked war, that he made a point to note that the already proven dishonesty begs the question regarding “what else they are lying about.”
It was a double whammy. And, as is now well known, the White House moved swiftly-if clumsily (and apparently illegally)-to retaliate.
It was clear from the start that Vice President Dick Cheney and Kemosabe (Amer. Indian for “Scotter”) Libby, as well as Karl Rove, were taking the lead in this operation to make an object lesson of Wilson and his wife.
But there is abundant evidence that senior White House officials were aware of the CIA’s doubts regarding the Niger story long before the State of the Union. Nearly a year earlier, in February 2002, the CIA had dispatched former Ambassador Joseph Wilson to Niger to investigate the claim about uranium purchases. When the CIA debriefed him in March, his findings were emphatic: As Wilson explained in a New York Times op-ed on July 6, “It did not take long to conclude that it was highly doubtful that any such transaction had ever taken place.” CIA Director George Tenet claimed on July 11 that Wilson was sent to Niger by junior nonproliferation experts at the CIA acting “on their own initiative” and that senior administration officials were unaware of his mission. But this is not true. Wilson was told by CIA officials that the mission had been specifically requested by the office of the vice president. Indeed, Dick Cheney’s chief of staff, Lewis “Scooter” Libby, told Time magazine that Cheney had “asked a question about the implication of the [uranium] report.” And, as Wilson tells The New Republic, “When an executive agency is tasked to find something out and it gets an answer, it goes back to the person who requested it.” For the White House to suggest that Cheney’s office was unaware of the results of Wilson’s inquiry strains credulity.
Moreover, there is strong evidence that the CIA clearly conveyed its doubts about the Niger allegation to the White House on more than one occasion prior to the State of the Union. When Bush wanted to include the claim in an October 7, 2002, speech in Cincinnati, Tenet personally intervened, imploring Condoleezza Rice’s National Security Council (NSC) deputy, Stephen Hadley, to cut the allegation from the speech, which he did. The idea that no one involved with the State of the Union was aware of this earlier, emphatic intervention is implausible. And when the latter speech was being written, the CIA again raised questions about the Niger assertion. According to The New York Times, when NSC proliferation staffer Robert G. Joseph called his CIA counterpart, Alan Foley, to ask about including the allegation in the State of the Union, Foley told Joseph the CIA was not confident about the information.
Indict Vice President Cheney. Put him under oath.
Mel Sembler heads up Scooter Libby’s Legal defense Fund. Mel is a lifelong Republican with a very checkered past:
http://alternet.org/story/27725/
http://www.thestraights.com/index.htm
“In February 1989, President George H.W. Bush appointed Sembler United States Ambassador to Australia and Nauru”
“In 1998 Sembler and his wife went to Israel with George and Laura Bush. Sembler has close personal ties to both George W. and Jeb Bush. Sembler’s wife Betty was a fundraiser for Jeb’s gubernatorial campaign. As a gesture of gratitude, Jeb declared August 8, 2000 “Betty Sembler Day” in Florida.”
AND THIS:
US Representative Michael Bilirakis escorting Vice President George H. W. Bush and Barbara to a Straight Open Meeting in 1988.
http://www.thestraights.com/news/charlie-crist.htm
How’s this for coincidence? Mel just happened to be the Ambassador to Italy (of all places, in that he didn’t even speak the language) at the same time that Ledeen makes a trip to Rome to meet with him and others – then magically – the purported Niger Yellow Cake document appears in Italy.
Even more interesting, when Lieberman loses to Lamont in the DEMOCRATIC primary, it is Republican Sembler who hosts a fundraiser for Lieberman to run as an Independent (with the full support of the White House and Karl Rove).
Now if you always keep the PNAC in mind, and remember the AGENDA that is being pursued on Israel’s behalf, it becomes very clear that a massive conspiracy to SELL THE INVASION OF IRAQ was in play.
I believe that the only explanation is that GHW Bush and the agents of Israel (including Lieberman) formed a CONSPIRACY (each for their own reasons) to work together to take down Clinton with Sexpionage (and that alliance continued through 9/11 and the invasion of the Middle East):

http://vancouver.indymedia.org/?q=node/1254
and to then implement the PNAC – to the benefit of Bush 41’s “Poppy Interests” in Afghanistan, Big Oil’s interests throughout the Middle East (and resolving the overhanging ($15 billion) Asbestos liability of Halliburton, represented by the Twin Towers), the Military Industrial Complex (Carlyle) and Israel – whose primary interest is the acquisition of resources and territory to create “Greater Israel.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Israel
GHW Bush, Cheney, Lay and Rumsfeld planned it all during the Clinton administration, and used Lay’s FAKE energy crisis as the platform to INSTALL the purported “energy experts” in the White House.
Sembler/Israel is in business with GHW’s CIA. Bush’s CIA has a fleet of Gulfstream Jets in Florida used primarily to transport drugs. The kids are just fronting for their dad’s business.
Cheney Mossad = 9/11 (the PRETEXT / NEW PERLE HARBOR). The 9/11 operation was botched big time and they’ve been covering their tracks ever since.
All that has followed is ON-PLAN, including the intentional Mayhem in Iraq to justify Genocide and the acquisition of resources and territory. There was no exit strategy – as there is NO GOAL to exit – EVER. Rummy threatened to fire any General who worked on the post invasion plan:
What more proof do you require? Iraq is perfectly “ON-PLAN.”

LESS THAN ONE MONTH AFTER 9/11:
“Every time we do something you tell me America will do this and will do that . . . I want to tell you something very clear: Don’t worry about American pressure on Israel. We, the Jewish people, control America, and the Americans know it.” – Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, October 3, 2001, to Shimon Peres, as reported on Kol Yisrael radio.
(Certainly the FBI’s cover-up of the Israeli spy ring/phone tap scandal suggests that Mr. Sharon IS CORRECT.)
http://www.informationclearing…..le7545.htm
Do the math – it’s all the same conspiracy.
Look – here’s the deal:
The biggest problem we face (a coup by a foreign power and treason within) cannot be openly discussed. The “special relationship” IS the problem. Dov Zakheim stole $7 trillion from the DOD and sent it to Israel. Want to know why Bush is unafraid of the supposed “power of the purse” and the threat by Congress not to fund his escalation? The money is not needed. They stole it in advance of 9/11 (witness Rumsfeld’s admission of $2.3 trillion missing on 9/10/2001). The entire campaign is ALREADY FUNDED.
Zakheim stole the money on behalf of the co-conspirators in the coup (the Bush Cabinet and Likud – in concert with The Crown). They looted the US Treasury IN ADVANCE OF 9/11.
They did it because it was all part of the master plan. Chaos in Iraq is PART OF THE PLAN. The funding for the escalation is NOT coming from any budget that Congress has ANY CONTROL OVER. The money was already sent to Israel in advance of PNAC’s “NEW PERLE HARBOR” and will now be tapped on an as needed basis – having lost the backing of the American people and congress.
This ALL planned for.
Ask Dov Zakheim about the $7 trillion.
He and Kobi Alexander (former CEO of Comverse) were co-conspirators in the implementation of 9/11. Zakheim’s “Sysplan” provided the fly-by-wire technology and Comverse / Ptech provided the software and wiretapping / blackmail capabilities.
Why is Kobi Alexander (wanted on Federal Charges) under the cover of the Witness Protection Program in the United States?
g’morning to the wanderers in.
This time yesterday, the CNN online expert and Miles were musing about the comparison of ‘MSM’ and blogging for accuracy in reporting. The Libby trial looked to be an interesting test of sorts.
We saw the firsthand account live through the hard work of Pachacutec and Jane’s FDL crew here. Some patterns appeared to develop early in the general opinion of potential jurors. The low public opinion of this administration long ago shattered partisan boundaries but the tired excuse of party bias was found in an MSM account. The inaccuracy of referring to Special Counsel Fitzgerald as Special Prosecutor was another subtle instance of injecting a divisive term instead of an accurate one. Correct me if I’m wrong on that, please.
The Boston Globe article is used as an example here, but I use this paper as a regular source for information due to it’s general reliability. The subtle sway of the points stressed in the article are what I see as the soft inaccuracy found across the ‘mainstream’ or traditional media the bloggers try to counter.
As always. I count on the reader to decide.
Good morning, pups. In the NYT today it’s Maureen Dowd on the Educator in Chief. Apparently he’s reading a book (yeah, right…) about Algeria.

I’m running late! {flies out the door}
Good morning y’all!
I’ve been an occasional reader for a long time, and a regular reader recently. I too am sending good energy to Jane for her recovery.
If I was a better person, I’d feel sorry for Cheney, et. al. Never underestimate the power of distraction when grieving. Kick some ass, Jane.
Mornin’ all!
Hi tommy yum, good to see ya around.
Marion in Savannah @ 131
Oh no! No that he knows Algeria exists, he’s going to attack it!
Good wishes for a speedy recovery, Jane!
oops…”now”
Rumi – on Boston Globe and Scooter trial. I read both the Globe and the NYT and on coverage on both this and Iraq the Globe is WAY better in conveying the situation in a fair way. Indeed MSM (AP) is in many ways better than the NYT on these specific issues. NYT is quoting Matalin all over, and comes up with all these people who think Scooter is a really nice, non-political guy, who is unfairly being prosecuted
PLUS, the covers of the 2 papers today are amazing in their positioning of essentially the same images. NYT puts the horrible carnage of Iraq (for once) above the fold and in huge scale – the blood still flowing in the foreground. Obama’s picture is small by comparison and below the field. You can’t look at it because of the emotionally jarring pix above it. The Globe in contrast has Obama above the fold and quite large; the Iraq bombing picture is smaller and below the fold. The importance of both subjects here are balanced.
But, the Globe is owned by the NYT! Yes, but each is identifying here with local readers. In the NYT format, it is clearly positioning itself pro-Hillary and anti Obama. In the Scooter trial, the NYT is clearly on the side of neocons and Judith M, girlfriend? and fellow Isr*el supporter of neocon NYT head.
I’ve had this recurring flash of thought that I’m on that accelerating treadmill heading toward disaster and running faster just to keep up. I just wanna scream “Ja-a-a-ane…stop this crazy thing!”
…ruh-roh
g’morning again all
heya Richmond – Thanks for that excellent comparison and insight. The psychological impact will always be a factor but it’s amazing at how subtly it can be woven into our perceptions.
Great catch.

Mornin’ pups,
All full of coffee and waiting for Pach’s next day of excellent live blogging.
I have had a hard time putting into words my reaction to the news of the latest round in Jane’s struggle with cancer. I was afraid for Jane, and worried that my fear would show thru even in a statement of support. I have never faced such a challenge — or even something within an order of magnitude — and I suppose it is hard for me to get past the terror of this unknown.
This is why we all gain so much when you carry on the fight so bravely, Jane. You have shown us once again how to stand up and be strong even under such a fearful burden.
I am reminded of remarks Patty Smith made about her recording of “About a Boy”. She said that while singing it she thought about Robert Mapplethorpe, not Kurt Cobain. She thought about how Mapplethorpe fought death to his last breath, working the entire time. And this made her angry at Cobain.
It is hard to admit that while I want to stand with you, Jane, I am afraid for you. But I will learn a lot when you beat cancer again, and perhaps when I am faced with such daunting foes — political or mdeical — I will know some strength.
ANybody else having troub;le accessing thread upstatirs?
I am crushed to hear the news, but have no doubt that Jane, being the highly intelligent and informed person she is, will have determined the very best treatment available.
Jane, you are in my thoughts and prayers. And please take care of yourself and get the recovery time you need to really bounce back.
Yet another daily lurker here……TRex, love your stuff & style. I was too taken aback last night to comment on Jane’s post.
I already see her all safe, warm and cozy, the sun streaming in on her face. Her healing has started from within, and she will be good to go February 4th.
To parallel a book I’m reading right now, and as you mentioned about the timing………in most of the modern mystics’ lives, the harshest of challenges came about right when they were to embark on a most important event. In coping with such events, we tend to go even deeper within ourselves, the results of which bring forth an even more profound message.
IMHO, a mystic is anyone whose work and soul/spirit blend so well that the results look like effortless perfection. I would say Jane fits into that catagory. Heal well and fast!!
P.S. Christy, Pac, and TRex, you are all included in that conceit. As Marianne Williamson says, who are we NOT to be brilliant, etc., etc.
Bless you all,
becca
