Not to worry, help is on the way!!!!

Rice will manage Iraq’s ‘new phase’

WASHINGTON — President Bush is giving his national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, the authority to manage postwar Iraq and the rebuilding of Afghanistan.

While some saw it as a sign of frustration with the handling of postwar efforts, Bush and other officials said the move is a logical next step and reflected no dissatisfaction with progress.

“We want to cut through the red tape and make sure that we’re getting the assistance there quickly so that they can carry out their priorities,” Bush spokesman Scott McClellan said. “It’s a new phase, a different phase we’re entering.”

Rice will head the Iraq Stabilization Group, which will have coordinating committees on counterterrorism, economic development, political affairs and media messages. Each committee will be headed by a Rice deputy and include representatives of the State, Defense and Treasury departments and the CIA. …

The new structure will give Bush’s top White House aides a stronger voice in decisions and will make the president more directly accountable. Because of their close relationship, many people will assume Bush signed off on Rice’s decisions. …….

President Bush also weighed in on the reason for his decision.

Rice “is going to make sure that the efforts continue to be coordinated so that we continue to make progress,” Bush said at a news conference with President Mwai Kibaki of Kenya. “And listen, we’re making good progress in Iraq. Sometimes it’s hard to tell it when you listen to the filter” of the news media.

joysness at 75 - an ‘interesting’ article? My goodness, that is downright terrifying. Even if I already knew generally about Iraq and now Iran switchingt to Euros, I cannot believe (well, yes I do) that someone, anyone, would do these things like planning unending war. Cannot someone stop these people from destroying everything?

I have believed for a very long time there are forces at work in the world that manipulate governments for money and power reasons. bush has proved this beyond doubt. Those neocons now scurrying busily in the bowels of the Pentagon will never give up, never go away, and will never back down.

They need to be exposed. That is way they first absorbed the media into their circle. Even with a dem Congress, I am more afraid now than ever before.

A Glimpse at America’s Brewing Nightmare with Iran

I suspect that we will soon see more collisions between US military squads and Special Force operations against suspected Syrian and Iranian convoys and personnel — civilian and military — inside Iraq as well as more border interdiction. At some point, these units will go into Syria and Iran to accomplish their “disruption” missions.
This is from Steve Clemons…a scary scenario

Angie - exactly. I’d like a few of those pols who keep on blaming the Iraqis to spend a night next to Mohammed guarding his family’s neighborhood against our death squads … only then let them talk.

ditto

Hi, Matt, thanks for this reminder that the White House still has the megaphone, and WOW did they use it for faux feminazi blowback at Boxer about her innocuous comment that neither she nor Rice would pay a personal price for this SURGE.

(OfT, I’ve a diary at DKos to publicize my run for California State Democratic Party Delegate, and could use any Orangists’ recommendations to keep it afloat in the busy Saturday evening rush.)

Back OnT — If we, the People, need to rely on the Generals to take back our government from the Fascists, how will the People get the Generals to turn it back over to us? Won’t the Generals want to keep their shiny new government, with its Unitary Executive et al.?
