The term “tolerance” is often used in reference to LGBT people. I have never liked the word. To me it implies putting up with something that you consider distasteful. It comes from a negative point of view.
I prefer the word “respect”. It implies an underlying esteem for whoever it is applied to, even if one disagrees with that person. It comes from a positive point of view.
I vote that we dump the term “tolerance” and promote “respect” into its place. Anyone have another term to suggest?
