As I write this, on the other side of Ann Arbor (where I'm located), Anatomy of Deceit is being printed. Since we don't have the actual book out yet, Jane suggested I use this opportunity to describe how my blogging on the Plame story got turned into a book. True to Jane and Markos' vision for Vaster Books, this one really did grow organically out of the blogosphere.
Three times over the course of the Plame Story, I've written recap posts to capture everything we knew–or thought we knew–about the case. I've always found that such narratives help me understand the big picture of the story. I did one in July 2005, not long after I got hooked on the story and first met Jane Hamsher in Plame threads at Daily Kos. I did another in early October 2005, as we were all waiting impatiently for indictments. By the time I started the third of these posts last May, I had a series. A long series.
That's when I realized I might have a book.
I might not have done anything about my long-post-that-might-be-a-book if I hadn't gone to Vegas for YearlyKos right in the middle of the series. Many of you know that part of the story–meeting Joe Wilson, the CIA Leak panel, the Firedoglake Caucus. What you didn't see, though, is that one night over dinner, I sheepishly mentioned to Jane that I might have a book.
I guess I don't have to explain that Jane has a way of making things happen.
We didn't really get started until September–and didn't really get started until October. At which point we did what–I've been told–they did with Crashing the Gates and How Would a Patriot Act. I camped out in San Francisco working with Safir Ahmed, the editor, working long hours writing and editing and revising all at the same time. Somewhere in the middle of this process, I had a day-job business trip to Asia that included getting diverted by a typhoon, sleeping on the floor of the Nagoya, Japan airport, and getting hit by a motorcycle messenger in Bangkok. Suffice it to say this period is a bit of a blur. But as part of that blur, Safir patiently dragged me out of the weeds in which I occasionally (ha!) get lost, and turned it into a book accessible–and, hopefully, interesting–to people who haven't been wallowing in this story for the last two years. What a luxury to have an editor!
Over the course of the editing process, we eliminated or defined a lot of the legal and bloggy jargon (don't worry–we kept "cocktail weenies"!). We included the background of the intelligence claims they used to "justify" the war and profiles of the key players. Where I'd use a link in the blogosphere I used a footnote in the book; I also snuck a lot of my favorite weedy details into the footnotes.
Through it all, we tried to recreate the process many of us went through as we followed this story, slowly peeling an onion to discover layer after layer of details about the case. Hopefully, after reading it people will be better prepared to see Patrick Fitzgerald peel still more layers away over the course of the Scooter Libby trial.
One more thing made this book possible: the involvement of Will Rockafellow, who is doing much of the work to make Vaster Books a reality. Markos and Jane literally formed Vaster Books right in the middle of this process (in fact, I think it happened while I was on that trip to Asia. though that detail, too, is kind of a blur). As a result, a lot of things that would have been done much earlier in the process happened as we went along, and for a while the whole project operated on a great leap of faith. Will came on in the middle of the process and really delivered on that collective leap of faith. Sort of what you'd expect from the blogosphere, I guess, but it doesn't diminish the feat! Thanks, too, to copyeditor Evan Camfield and proofreader Emily DeHuff for working some tough hours to meet our crazy deadlines.
And before you ask, I'll answer one question many people asked in the thread at Daily Kos. The graphic artist who did the cover is Josh Michels–and yes, I love the ominous feel of it! My very favorite aspect of the cover, though, is that if you look very closely, you can see a certain Vice President's manic scribblings–the newsprint is actually Dick's copy of Joe Wilson's op-ed.
All of which brings us to where we are now. Over the next two weeks the book will ship from the printers and the trial will begin. Jane and Christy and I (and others) will continue peeling the onion with what we learn in the trial. We may not, yet, get to the core of the rotting onion that is the Bush Administration, but this book is an attempt to help us all keep peeling away.

Emptywheel!
emptywheel–
Your book comes at precisely the right moment as the trial begins.
In the future it will be an important resource for historians and students who are trying to figure out just what went wrong with the great American experiment.
A tip of the hat to the courageous eRiposte, whose contributions may never be chronicled.
It has been a great privilege to help sponsor your work. mrEgregious basically didnt question expenditures in the period leading up to the elections. Pretty good for a republican.
Dang I could have bought more shoes.
Wondering: looks like Plame wasn’t able to acquire permission to publish. Does anyone believe these orders did not come from the WH?
Secondly, if she can’t get her book published (or even admit she was employed by the CIA, by some accounts), how reasonable is it to expect that her colleagues and allies will make sure her story gets out through off the record interviews with people, well, like you?
I wonder how much of Bush’s amazing overreach in terms of executive authority to tap phone lines, read mail, etc is an effort to intimidate administration leakers…
Stark in da house!!
This is so exciting – welcome Marcy!
The chance to see such good work turned into a book that we back and support … and which can inform the wider world about this important case – what could be better?!
While we wait for everyone to join us – I’ll issue the standard request that we stay on topic in Book Salon and keep other conversations in the thread below.
Thanks!

I think eriposte ties Murray Waas with the most number of unique mentions in my footnotes. I (briefly) explain eriposte’s discoveries of the way SISMI laundered the content of the forgeries before they sent the intelligence onto the CIA. And I talk about how the administration–the same folks who said they hadn’t gotten Wilson’s trip repot–used it twice when they were trying to pretend there was still some basis for the Niger claims.
Those are just two small mentions–but I, like you, really respect his work.
Really appreciate the eloquent, as always, post, emptywheel. I’m also impressed by the high level of cooperation among the reality based community.
If you care to answer, any idea yet on how advanced sales are going?
I also snuck a lot of my favorite weedy details into the footnotes.
Thanks for that. Some of these details might turn out to be excruciatingly important.
In business school we learned to
take the moneylook for the good stuff in the footnotes. The book is amazing. Marcy did an incredible job. especially considering the short time she had to develop it fully.
And Will Rockafellow is the bomb.
Do you remember your media training? I have a feeling you may be in pretty high demand over the next year or so – and I can’t be prouder to have a representative like you presenting the reality-based perspective to the wider public!
One quick pitch–for those of you who want to support local businesses, my local indy bookstore is going to be getting books straight from the printers. And it’s run by two great guys I know from the Dean days.
Marcy -
Welcome again! In your opinion, how much vaster will the story of the CIA leak case become?
Mike Stark @ 13
I’m practicing. Sean-Paul Kelley actually had me on his radio show to talk about my quiz for lawmakers. We even had a hostile caller!
Mike – we are expecting a lot of interest in Marcy and this book … and having her as a spokesperson for the capability of the blogs to really chase down a story is going to be so good!
Glad to get in early here from Greece–Thanks to all those out there for supporting this and following this. I look forward to the book.
emptywheel—yes, Murray Waas also deserves our honor and our praise. It has been a lonely slog thru the wilderness for him.
Thanks so much for the effort in making this timely addition to our understanding of the case and its background.
There still seem to be so many unknowns. (Rumors of sealed indictiments and so much else…) Do you have a guess as to where this is leading? Do you go deeply into where the forgeries came from?
aka Will Rockafellow here…
I also want to thank Marcy for putting out such a fine piece of work in such a short amount of time. It’s a testament to Marcy and the entire team that we will soon a have a book to hold in our hands. I’m so excited to be a part of this project.
So — hypothetically speaking — what’s your next book about?
or, put a different way: having done this once, would you ever like to do it again?
Congratulations on the book, to ‘wheel, and the energetic helpers and actualizers. I am glad to hear of Markos’ work with you all, and Jane’s Promethean zing, as usual.
I was concerned in the nextHurrah thread the past few days about the partial picture Fitzgerald is willing to let fly, though the judge has yet to finalize agreement on defendant’s pie-in-sky pretrial jury instructions (don’t tell them Judy wrote propaganda or went to jail).
I bet some day the Smithsonian has a display for an architect’s rendering of a floatable Knesset, though.
(lucky for us Stark is on our side! I would not want him as a hostile caller!)
John Casper @ 10
Advance sales are going well. So well that we’re increasing our print run to meet the demand.

Will pat yourself on the back, too. You worked like crazy. It never would’ve happened without your sleepless nights.
Crazy Horse @ 20
Not that deeply–I do a review of each of the three main WMD claims, where they came from, how they were all hocus pocus. But as to the Niger claims, eriposte and De Gondi (at Eurotrib) and a few more people are still working on that.
emptypockets @ 22
Better ask me that after I am forced to deal with Novak in a dark alley.
Siun @ 17
What is particularly magnificent is Marcy’s background. She’s not from a classic investigative reporter line. If I remember correctly, she’s an academic that just got an idiosyncratic bone stuck in her throat that she couldn’t let go of. In the end, it’s an amazing testament to the power of “everyday people”.
Looking forward to the book – Also, maybe a more detailed account of the whole process of getting it all together – Sounds fascinating and illustrates something I don’t think the right can duplicate (or for that matter, even want to replicate).Innovation and cooperation that didn’t require a top down hierarchy – And an end run around MSM for prepublicity as well as publishing. Great!
Great honor to have Mike Stark on an FDL thread.

Allen On Assault Of Constituent: ‘Things Like That Happen’
Book publishing has been revolutionized, and I had a front-row seat at the revolution: CTG, HWAPA, and now emptywheel’s extraordinary contribution. Thanks for opening this process and sharing it with your fans, Jane and Kos — we are excited to see more products as well !!
Mike Stark @ 29
The phrase I prefer to use is “open source investigation.”
Mike Stark @ 29
Actually, a former academic. I wasn’t a fan of the rather insular culture of academics.
Michelle Malkin told me that “Safir Ahmed” doesn’t even exist.
Remembering how watergate produced a revalation a day for months, no longer, i expect this to be similar, and exciting. But Mr. Fitzgerald and staff are going up against the most dangerous people on the planet. who knows what’s coming.
I’m grateful that FDL has a ringside seat, and wish all of you clarity and courage through the process.
Crazy Horse @ 36
I am living to see Cheney on the witness stand. There isn’t much that could keep me away from that.
Jane Hamsher @
26
Thanks. I’m having a blast.
Jane–Should I pre-order the book through the Amazon link or somewhere else?
Having written now five books I can tell you that I never did one nearly that fast even without being hit by a motorcycle. Maybe I should try that next time.
Congratulations.
I will order one asap.
ccmask @ 39
Amazon is good, it’s nice to see those numbers climb, but your local bookstore is great too, and calling them to request that they carry it is even better.
FWIW and many have probably already thought of this, Olbermann will probably really want you for his show. Once you’re on with him, Tweety, Pumpkinhead, and the rest will follow.
Jane Hamsher @ 37
How far in advance will we know (more or less) when Cheney will appear? To what extent is this stuff scheduled?
Okay. I live in a small town, but I’ll call both sellers requesting the book. Thanks
Now here’s a novel idea: http://www.rawstory.com/news/2….._0107.html
Hence the current closing of sources…..
Emptywheel – besides motorcycles, airports and all that fun, can you say a bit more about what it’s like to shift blog posts into a book format?
Robert Paehlke @ 40
Skip the motorcycle, I’d say, particularly in another country. It’s kind of hard to deal with these things if you don’t speak the language. And I really hate to think of what would have happened if I weren’t working with a big corporation.
If you could be any kind of tree, what kind would you be?
ccmask @

You should also visit your Indie bookstore in a few weeks to pick it up.
One Indie bookstore in Ann Arbor that’s really aggressive in selling Anatomy of Deceit is Common Language. Check them out at http://glbtbooks.com/
Are “publicity” copies being sent to key people? e.g. Olbermann? Hope so! Congrats from one of your many FDL “sponsors”
I’m so excited about going to YearlyKos this year in Chicago. I booked my room and talked my best girlfriend (a doctor in New York) into joining me. It will be so great to meet all of you there.
Mike Stark @ 29
I believe she’s an historian; the skills are pretty much the same as investigative reporting, except you aren’t under the same kind of deadline (except prior to tenure). There are a lot of so-called ‘ordinary people’ out here who can run investigative circles around most reporters. I don’t have to go on about our ability to run circles around the so-called ‘pundits’.
They ought to shut down schools of journalism, so to that journalists can learn their craft the old-fashioned way. They strike me as something like Schools of Education, which allegedly teach you how to teach, but not what to teach. Form without content.
Very much looking forward to seeing the book, and will be down at the Elliot Bay Bookstore the day it comes out.
emptywheel, how did you keep all the myriad legal details in perspective to the ongoing story?
The whole picture for this book is quite exciting, thank you Marcy for your hard work on it, (glad you made it out of Bangkok!) and congratulations to your whole team for making it happen.
It’s also particularly good to hear (Will@25) that advance sales look that promising.
Perhaps through this, Jane will have an opportunity to better acquaint the general public as to exactly how obnoxious she is!
Siun @ 47
For me and my deep weeds, I think it’s a question of audience. It is always really tough for me to remember that not everyone has been following this religiously for the last two years. Everytime I thought I had explained everything I needed to explain some new acronym (NIE or DIA or something like that) that I just never notice anymore. Add to that the language that is unique to the blogosphere. It was, in many ways, like translating from one language to another.
Marcy, looking forward to see you “nail” Colbert on his show.
Props to all involved.
Siun- are you sending out a press release? Would be nice to have a copy of that to send to various indy bookstores that I know of.
This trial is going to be so much fun–a front row seat watching the world of journalism and the world of politics collide. I am so psyched. And Marcy’s book for the cliff notes! Booyah!

Much appreciated.
Is the 110th Congress going to get complimentary copies?
What’s your take on the CIA playing
“hard ass” with Valerie Plame’s book?
Doesn’t that stick a pin in all those (balloon head)folks claiming Valerie Plame was not really covert?
Jack
ValleyGirl – we’re coordinating a big press push and will be doing a lot. I’ll coordinate with Will to get all the loyal FDLers a press release version that they can give to their local indy booksellers – great idea!
I am living to see Cheney on the witness stand. There isn’t much that could keep me away from that.
I truly don’t mean to be a jerk, but I don’t see Cheney’s being on the stand as that much of an event. They’re going to ask him some tightly scripted questions, for which he’ll have well-prepared answers. The Prosecution cannot , on cross, ask anything outside the bounds of what was asked by Libby’s lawyers on direct examination.
Cheney’s going up as a memory witness. Scoooter was very, very busy and and many, many things on his mind. Period, I think.
Marcy, I tried your independent bookstore and it said it was unsecure(FWIW) and then rejected my order so my apologies.I will go with B and N or Amazon, whichever you recommend. Thanks
Hats off to everyone involved. One more example of Internet-related entreprenurial hutzpah. I marvel.
Somehow, given the blown cover of a CIA officer (who happened to be dealing with WMD), I don’t think ‘plausible deniability’ is going to be acceptable to the US public. Particularly during a Time of War.
This is the weirdest damn story that’s ever captured my attention and I think there will be a whole lot of people agog by this one — thanks so much to FDL, EW, and Vaster for helping so many of us try and make sense of this eerie and despicable House of Smoke and Mirrors.
If anyone had ever told me that A Former Hill Staffer was in cahoots with a NYT reporter to push bogus intel, using talking points scribbled by a US Veep onto a copy of the NYT, I’d have thought they were a loonie. Truly, life is stranger than fiction.
This is a whopper of a story.
Crazy Horse @ 54
As to legal jargon, I have to rely on Christy for that. But as to the details from the filings, that’s one of the things doing these narratives helps to do. To some degree, Fitzgerald can’t tell the complete story here, not least because we don’t have Karl or Armitage with an indictment. But many of those details are out there in some other form. So if you collect them in one place, then it beings to make sense.
jayt @ 64
Fitz is precluded from asking about things in evidence, like the handwritten note on the times clipping?
Marcy,
Will there be a sequal following on the trial?
Bay State Librul @ 62
As I point out here, I think it’s a real double edged sword given all the legal proceedings. The CIA has basically taken the same tack Fitzgerald has, saying it can’t even say that Plame worked for it, which by itself ought to silence the claims her identity wasn’t classified.
But I also think it might affect the possibility for the civil trial to get some traction. If Plame really can’t publish ANYTHING about her work, even though being outed ended her career, it gets right to questions of damages.
Jane Hamsher @ 60
Gonna make some stops at my local booksellers’ this afternoon. Can you re-post the info to give to them?
An old darkblack blessing:
May your book fly off the shelves nationwide, and may its contents be on the lips and in the minds of patriots everywhere
:)
Any bookstore can order using this number: 0979176107.
My local store was delighted to take a pre-order, and it’s nice to be able to chat the book up with smaller sellers, whose staff often read books recommended by customers, and who will often give a book better visibility when they think it is something their customers will find of interest.
BTW: “State of Denial” flew off the shelves in my store, so they know there’s a market for more info about current affairs.
And I’d be first in line to buy an audio version for my iPod… any chance…?
ccmask @ 39
Use emptywheel’s link to her “indy” bookseller in her commentary!
I used amazon hours before I heard about her friend. Marcy, any shot of an autographed copy? I might order a second one for me, and leave the first one out for bookcrossing in a coffeehouse!
Marcy, I’m excited for you, and for the rest of us who bought a copy.
Teddy and all – here are the Publication details:
Anatomy of Deceit: How the Bush Administration Used the Media to Sell the War and Out a Spy
Marcy Wheeler
ISBN: 0979176107
ISBN-13: 9780979176104
Format: Paperback, 176pp
Publisher: Vaster Media, Incorporated
$14.95, available from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Borders, and independent booksellers
Also, whence the name Vaster Books?
Fitz is precluded from asking about things in evidence, like the handwritten note on the times clipping?
Correct. The only way to get into that is to, first, have those notes in in evidence, via testimony (on DIRECT), from Cheney, or someone, who is familiar enough with his handwriting so as to assure the Court that it is, indeed, the handwriting of Cheney.
And then, one would have to call Cheney as a witness in order to ask about it – can’t do it on cross.
Fitz doesn’t have Cheney on his witness list – except to the extent that most lawyers normally put a catch-all at the bottom of their witness list which says – ‘and any witness that (the other side) may call’.
Now why the hell didn’t I actually REPEAT the link to her indy bookseller? dumb dumb dumb…
JoyB @ 74
I’m going to try to sign the copies that get pre-ordered from Keith’s store (pending my DC trial schedule). And I’ll be doing some book events in the upcoming weeks. I’m happy to sign anyone’s book, though, if I can find you.

Congrats again Marcy. Thanks Jane, FDL, and Markos for creating Vaster Books and helping to make Anatomy of Deceit a reality.
I’m planning on donating a copy to my local library as soon as my orders arrive. The public library shares a digital search engine with about 15 or 20 surrounding towns in the Boston area. Once Marcy’s book is entered into the system, it will pop up during anyone’s search on this topic.
Marcy, any thoughts what you would say if you run into Judy during the Libby trial?
Hugh at 2:55 pm
LMAO.
I don’t know for sure, but my guess is that this will make the vast left wing conspiracy just a little bit. . . vaster.
Marcy — does your book draw any conclusions as to whether Fitz is continuing to investigate other officials (Cheney? Hadley?), or whether he will close up shop once the Libby trial is over?
Great work Marci! It looks like that you have the only book that is coming out about the Plame investigation in time for the trial…. and I can’t wait to get my copy!
(and Siun, are you the person who did that incredible job of coordinating media relations for Yearly Kos last year? If so, its great to have you working on this team).
I’ll buy a copy. I’ll also ask the university library to buy a copy.
I’d sure like to buy Prognosis:Prison someday, as well.
This is extremely exciting.
I would humbly propose that FDL readers who are interested in furthering Marcy’s cause do the following:
1. Buy the book.
2. Call your local town and university libraries and request that they order the book.
3. Go on Amazon and arrange for copies of the book to be sent to your friends and relatives who will need a guide to help them through the trial.
4. Donate via the paypal link at Firedoglake to support Marcy/Christy/Jane and others as they trek to DC to cover the trial in person.
The Libby trial has the potential to be a huge story in the traditional media. It has all the necessary elements – no need to recap them here.
During the trial, we can expect to hear a lot of misinformed and disingenuous commentary from all the usual pundit suspects.
Despite my low expectations for the mainstream pundits, I believe that this trial could be a breakthrough moment for the people with real expertise – people like Marcy, Christy and Jane.
During the trial, citizens across the nation will be looking for someone who can help them to understand the Valerie Plame saga. There will be a hunger for factual, detailed, coverage of this cloak-and-dagger tale.
The Libby trial really is an ideal moment to show everyone the type of in-depth coverage that the progressive blogosphere can provide.
I am looking forward to it.
pdaly @ 81
The book does not entirely lack input from Judy Miller, so she knows it’s coming and likely knows the direction of the book.
But if I see her after she testifies, I will likely ask about some of the questions she has thus far dodged using the excuse of the trial. Honestly, I’d like to know more about the inner workings of the NYT in response to the subpoenas and to her attempts to publish a story on the Wilsons. I still doubt she’d answer, but it’s worth a try.
actually, on second thought, I do have a question…. in working on your book, did you have access to any of the players that you were writing about? Or is it based solely on what is already in the public record?
p.lukasiak … YKOS media? yes, thank you! I’m also the “press secretary” for FDL and will be working with the Vaster team to get us some good attention … given the great tale, I think it will be a pretty easy job!
TeddySanFran @ 76
I’m not positive, but I think it is a reference to the “vast right wing conspiracy.”
The progressive movement is vaster.

The Judy Miller sections are some of the best. Oh she’s gonna love it.
emptywheel @ 14
Problem with this bookstore, they assume your state is Michigan.
pontificator @ 83
No conclusions–it is a somewhat open-ended book (though with a sense of clear direction where the investigation would head). Also, I think further investigation depends entirely on two things, 1) whether Fitz got traction on the cover-up side of things (like disappearing emails) and 2) what transpires at the trial.
Congratulations, Marcy, and kudos to the new publishing enterprise.
I was wondering what you most hope will be revealed/confirmed at trial that we don’t already know? Or what we may know but that most needs repeating by the media?
Speaking of Judy, I’m not going to hold my breath to see “Anatomy of Deceipt” reviewed in the NY Times.
Me too!! I just ordered one from your “recommended” bookseller. That was before I got to the post about “request @ your local independent bookseller.” Ah well.
My local bookseller [Washington DC] is Politics & Prose, which is often a site for the broadcasts on C-Span. I dearly hope this will be on your “press tour.” All the big political names come here, y’know!! And when you come, I’ll certainly be in the front row.
Seriously, I do hope P&P is on your “hit list;” it’s quite influential in this area.
Have you thought about contacting Al Franken & Joe Conason? Because of Conason’s columns in Salon and NYObserver, this might bring more exposure. And Jon Stewart, of course.
Finally, I send “care packages” to folks through AnySoldier.com. Do you think there might be a way, somewhere down the line, to purchase several copies at a slight discount to send to troops there?
The Perfect Fitzmas Gift.
Frederick Pohl had a series in the ’80s that featured a protagonist who had uploaded himself into an AI type of life. He existed within a web-like system and could tap any sensor, databank, CPU, etc.; he became, as he put it, “vastened”.
That’s the first thing I thought when Jane revealed the name of the new entity.
Can’t wait! I’m in for a copy and will be offering at least a couple as gifts.
Following threads and comments over the past year at TNH and here, I am awed by the reach of understanding tapped out with known information. That said, I eagerly await any hint of twists that no one could have forseen from the stance of being on the outside looking in.
scarecrow @ 94
I think that Ari–and to some degree Cathie Martin–will testify to a much more active campaign than has been revealed so far in the indictment. One of them is likley the immunized witness, though, so he or she is likely to get hammered by Libby’s team. Just as an example, though, we only recently learned that Martin and Libby’s personal assistant witnessed Libby’s side of his call to Matt Cooper, so that charge is more than a he-said he-said pitting Libby against Cooper. I have no idea why Martin was in the room, but I am curious to hear what she says.
We’ll also find out more about the context for Libby’s early data collection on the Wilsons. I suspect such details will be rather damaging to his memory defense.
jeffreyw @ 97
I didn’t know Pohl created Max Headroom!
FWIW, we sent rubber stamps to Congress. Maybe it’s worth thinking about sending complimentary copies to the various reporters who are assigned to cover the trial from the NYT’s, WaPo, A.P., Russert, Tweety, … .
p.lukasiak @ 88
I did talk to a few of the people involved, but it is mosly open-sourced.
Emptywheel said – “The book does not entirely lack input from Judy Miller, so she knows it’s coming and likely knows the direction of the book.”
Wow – Judy talked with you about the book? I’d love to be a fly on the wall for that conversation.
After the book comes out, I’d very much like to hear more from you about your conversations with Judy in connection with this book. I hope she didn’t speak with you on “double super secret background”.

Also Suin, send that PR to Working Assets – they have a recommended list you can order when you pay your phone bill.
Marcy:
Any predictions on what Fitz will be able to get out of Cheney with tegard to his role? The annotated NYT article has got to come up among other things in the context of Scooters “memory” problems. Isn’t there an open field there for Fitz to penetrate?
John Casper @ 101
That is a damn good idea.
I am so looking forward to the book, Marcy. CONGRATS!!
Have ordered through a local book store here and will announce to the congregation so they can order their own.
A thought.
Any way we can get C-Span to re-run the Plame panel from YKos right before the trial? That would be smart on their part and help the book sales too. How does one go about requesting that?
Kevin J @ 107
A lot of it depends on how Libby’s team uses Cheney (it might just be memory defense, it might be to discredit an important witness, like Cathie Martin, or it might be to reiterate that Libby had permission for his leaking to Judy). I think Fitz can use the annotated op-ed in any case–they’ve always suggested it has been verified as his writing somehow.
Marci – You are a true hero and a professor of Truth. I wish you great success. I shall be sure to purchase a copy ASAP.

I shd explain. If you go to this bookstore and use google auto-fillin, the state appears later as “Michigan” regardless of where you live. I’m good with making everyone live in A square but the bookseller might want to be aware of this
glitchissue. I can’t say the g word because people use that to describe voting machine fraud. Glitch sounds like a tiny little thing instead of never mind, different rant.Marci, the mention of “congregation” @ 109 above made me wonder: is there a way of getting a “flyer”/press release describing the book. This could then be posted on various bulletin boards @ UU, etc.
Mauimom – we’ll have a press release for folks to use shortly and I’ll chat with Will about providing a pdf for folks to print out and use locally. Check back with us for more!
I’ve very excited about your book Marcy!!
Did you write about what pulled you into the story? For me it was sometime in the fall of ‘03, and then each little news drip was OMG!! but I could find little news until I found the blogs in the summer of ‘05.
blue e @ 119
Yup, I did–at least what pulled me into blogging the story.
Short version–I blame it all on a trying to win an “argument” with Meteor Blades.
Marcy—your efforts to bring this into the light are truly phenomenal.
This was the moment I actually knew Ykos was going to be something special.
Thanks to Kathryn in MA for the photo.
I don’t have anything smart to add, other than this is awesome, and Marcy is da hot.
emptywheel @ 28
wouldn’t that be more like MY department ???

don’t worry, it wont take too long, I already got the wooden stake and the garlic
but why would you want to write a book length eulogy for novakula ???
don’t believe the rest of those posers ew, I’m still your biggest fan
GREAT PHOTO, thanks RBG.
thank you to Metor Blades
some weekends I’ve spent hours going through comments on your posts (great bunch)
It was the announcement of the Plame Panel that prompted my decision to go to YKos. I’m sure I’m not alone. And I’m sure that those of us who were motivated to go because of this are ever so glad that we went.
And now the book!
And soon the trial!
It just gets better and better.
A lot of it depends on how Libby’s team uses Cheney (it might just be memory defense, it might be to discredit an important witness, like Cathie Martin, or it might be to reiterate that Libby had permission for his leaking to Judy). I think Fitz can use the annotated op-ed in any case–they’ve always suggested it has been verified as his writing somehow.
a. memory defense – I agree.
b. to discredit an important witness, like Cathie Martin: but that would open him up to a cross-examinatioin of the hiring practices, background checks, what they found etc. of both the WH and OVP, wouldn’t it? *That* might be fun.
c. That Libby had permission to leak to Judith Miller.
Irrelevant.
d. suggesting that the annotations are Cheney’s doesn’t get them into evidence – and Fitz isn’t gonna put them in – they’re irrelevant to his case-in-chief.
He’s a memory witness.
jayt @ 127
You’ve probably read Fitz’ explanation for entering the annotations into evidence. But a central aspect of his argument about why Libby wouldn’t forget
all his leakinghow and when he learned of Plame is because of the central importance placed on the issue by Cheney. In other words, in response to the, “but I had the security of the nation to think of,” Fitzgerald will answer, “but your boss was totally obsessed by this.Which is not why Libby has called Cheney. But it goes to the central role of Cheney in the leak.
And as to discrediting Martin–it may just be a simple two people against one as to what went on during their AF2 conversation from July 12.
Is it OT to wonder where Mr. Rove might be now? I haven’t heard much about him recently.
Congrats and good luck, EW. I’ll be regularly checking the book and blog during the trial, hope to see some great commentary on the TV as well (can’t wait until when you and Novak are on the same show!).
Congratulations Marcy, I am so happy for you. My Paypal privileges have been suspended. Do the ladies of the lake have a snailmail address where I can send support for the ringside seats at the trial?
My copies been pre-ordered and I can’t wait. Thank you Marcy, for trudging through the weeds and explaining them to all of us.
On the trial, the docket still lists the case as starting Monday, Jan. 15th. On the DC court’s website, there are several other cases scheduled that day, in other courtrooms and other judges. I’d assumed it was a mistake since MLK Day is a federal holiday, but it looks to me like the 15th is when jury selection begins.
HotFlash @ 129
I’ve wondered that myself. He’s Mr. Invisible these days. Probably still in the basement of the White House licking his wounds from Nov. 7th. ;)
blue e @ 119
Ditto.
Never in my wildest dreams did I suppose or imagine when I first heard the news report that this thing would smolder into such a fascinating, convoluted, sinister story.
But the blog analysis far outstrips the MSM.
Except for one thing that I’m now finding intriguing…In July 2003, Rove told Chris Matthews that, “(Plame) is fair game.” Matthews apparently phoned up Joe Wilson to pass along this little item.
I note with interest that this week, leading up to the Libby Trial, Bill O’Reilly is vehemently smearing NBC as ‘liberal’, and smearing Chris Matthews specifically.
Despite O’Reilly’s falling ratings, I doubt this is coincidence. The timing is bizarre.
I now return to my seat in the back of the seminar…
Pachacutec @ 122
Pretty much sums it up for me – thanks, Pach.
I blame it all on a trying to win an “argument” with Meteor Blades.
geez, that’s the same kind of thing that got me started doing research on Bush’s military records….
I just spotlighted Marcy’s thread and I had to take a little break here…I went down the list and just finished half.
If we bring our copies to YKos can we get ‘em signed?
p.lukasiak @ 136
And that got me started on a blog that deals with mental illness, the final frontier.
Thanks to those of you ordering the books from me at Common Language…and also thanks to those of you ordering it from your local Indie Bookstore. Those special orders often prompt a store to order another for their inventory! (Sorry about the “Michigan glitch”…I’ll try and fix that right now).
Several mentioned buying them for their members of congress. I love it. If you buy it from me for them, simply put their name and address in the shipping address…I’ll recognize it as a member of congress…and I’ll donate 10% to Firedoglake!

You sweetheart! PS your photo is in there, too.
Marcy said she’d sign them. I’m bringing mine for sure.
HotFlash @ 129
I recently happened across an article posted on the cnn website regarding Luskin’s comments after Rove’s 5th GJ appearance:
“In deference to the pending case, we will not make any further public statements about the subject matter of the investigation,” Luskin said in a written statement Tuesday. “We believe that the special counsel’s decision should put an end to the baseless speculation about Mr. Rove’s conduct.”
A grand jury has heard testimony from Rove in five appearances, most recently April 26.
After that appearance, Luskin issued a statement saying, “In connection with this appearance, the special counsel has advised Mr. Rove that he is not a target of the investigation.”
A Rove spokesman said there would be no statement from Rove on Tuesday concerning the matter.
***
While Luskin makes a remark that sounds positive for Rove, “with this appearance” strikes me as laden with exclusivity with the intent of casting a more general significance.
Considering every person Fitzgerald has referred to in an indictment using a non-name, i.e. Official A, has gone on to be indicted themselves, I can’t help but think there’s more in the cards outside of the Libby indictment.
Crazy Horse @ 68
this is a BIG OPENING folks
Fitz can ask if scooter was busy LEAKING THE IDENTITY OF A CIA AGENT, and then present the clipping as evidence that dead eye dick and scooter discussed the topic
you just gotta be able to see the opportunity of the terrain
anything about scooter being AWFUL BUSY is a chance to ask if scooter was busy committing crimes at the behest of the Veep
and there is a thing called REBUTTAL, which allows the prosecution to open a whole lot of cans of worms
anything scooter says can be used against him in a court of law, and I suspect that Patrick Fitzgerald is gonna FUCK SCOOTER UP REAL BAD
Hi Marcy, I’m glad your book is being printed (I think I contributed…I always meant to write down what and who I contributed to in 2006, but somehow never got around to it).
In the meantime, I make sure to give Fred Hiatt at the WaPo (remember teh Good Leak?) hell, err the truth, every chance I get.
Looking forward to the book.
We have quite a few indy stores in NH that’ll gladly hold a book signing.

By the way PBS was running a documentary on Annie Leibowitz this afternoon. She took pictures of Nixon’s resignation and concentrated on behind-the-scene shots.
Maybe someone could call her. Jane? :-)

To answer my own question, no there are no other cases scheduled on the 15th. I misread the schedule. My bad. Libby is still scheduled for the 15th, however. Probably a mistake they’ll notice this week and fix.

Don’t forget Scooter’s notebook(s) containing what he wrote about the Wilsons.
But a central aspect of his argument about why Libby wouldn’t forget all his leaking how and when he learned of Plame is because of the central importance placed on the issue by Cheney. In other words, in response to the, “but I had the security of the nation to think of,” Fitzgerald will answer, “but your boss was totally obsessed by this.

Hmmm. If Fitz can get that annotated article into evidence w/o the actual author of the notes (Cheney) verifying that it is, in fact, his handwriting, then the game gets more interesting.
If that does get into evidence, then Cheny’s open, even on cross, to be asked about it. If I’m Cheney, and that thing gets in – I wouldn’t even consider getting on the stand.
Subpoena’s be damned – he’ll fight it tooth and nail.

I can’t promise they have independent verification that’s his (Libby has said it looks like his writing, though Libby’s lawyers asked how Fitz was going to verify, to which Fitz didn’t respond). But it has always soudned like they have some kind of verification that it is his. Don’t know how–but I’d sure like to know.

Just got here after packing little Ms. ET to go back to school, so I missed being here earlier to congratulate the author of “Anatomy of Deceit.”
Congratulations, Marcy! You picked the right price and right length for your book to have maximum impact, especially if trial coverage gets the national traction it deserves. I’m not saying you’re taking advantage of the trial situation at all. To me, it is more like perfect timing – for all the right reasons.
Have you heard of other books out there in the offing which might be attempting to also give this subject depth?

But I don’t understand. I’ve seen Bob Baer and another former agent (His name escapes me at the moment–I think it was Larry?) that said he went to spy school in the same class with Valerie interviewed on TV. How can anyone now tell her she can’t divulge her former covert status with the agency but they can? What penalty is there if she does (what can they do to her that is worse than what they’ve already done?)
Thanks, Marcy. Somebody commented above that they doubt the NYT will do a review. That was my initial reaction too, thinking about it. But there must be ways we can encourage newspapers, C-SPAN, PBS outlets, magazines to review this book beyond the normal flack work which – I assume – is beginning to deluge Siun.
Other than the obvious ways covered so far, buying, recommending, posting flyers for, etc. how can we help launch this book, and this important publisher?

Watertiger, nice photo of b43 (last entry)
From a financial perspective I’m wondering if Biden and Pelosi’s positions on war funding may not be that different. Money is fungible, and the constitution clearly gives b43 the ability to wage war.. and he’s used the supplemental appropriations process to fund his little war, not line items off the budget Congress actually passes. If b43 comes to Congress with a particular supplemental request that clearly identifies new troops as a use of funds, then Pelosi can try to stop that appropriation. But b43 is incredibly unlikely to do that. Instead, he’d just request a general appropriation for the war… impossible to distinguish between funding replacement APCs and ceramic vests as opposed to 15,000 new troops… and he’s not above cannibalizing the former to enable him to do the latter (hey.. it’s just po’ people’s lives, after all.. not anybody Jenna might hang out with…). And he’s also not above screwing the existing troops or threatening to if Congress holds back new non-targeted funding. Thus, unless Congress is prepared to go to war with the president and starve out the military completely, it can’t really stop him from funding his 15-20,000. Maybe if he wanted to surge 200,000.. but not the smaller numbers he’s contemplating. The fact is, there are lots of ways he can hide his little surge… consequences be damned.
I still think the only real way to stop him is by impeachment….
RevDeb – I still have nice contacts at Cspan and will be talking with them …they sure are a natural for this!
Ed*ard Teller @ 187
Hi ET! As for book reviews, anyone know how NYT book reviews are set? Are they commissioned, or can a they be submitted by “known” reviewers?
Siun- maybe “known” reviewers should be on the PR list, both those at NYT and elsewhere. Maybe folks could suggest some potential reviewers- those could get the PR release, plus “please contact me for a review copy”. Who is a regular reviewer at the New Yorker, for example? Maybe Gore Vidal needs a copy to review?
geez, TRex better duck – they are having some weather out his way! looks like tornadoes, if I’m reading the graphic right…
OldCoastie @ 198
Tornadoes in the GA area are weird- tend to hit the same spots over and over.
Book reviews are typically assigned by the editors who control those pages. We’ll be contacting them with all the details and seeing what we can arrange.
We also have a lot of friends who do reviews for publications and I’m beginning with outreach to them to see if they want to do the reviews for their publications.
If your major papers in your state have a book review column, it would be great to get a name or email address for their book reviewer – email it to me at media dot firedoglake at gmail dot com – and I’ll add them to our list.
I want to read it before the trial. What’s my best bet, the local barnes & nobles or amazon or X ?
jayt @ 161
I don’t think the VP (or anyone else) has contested that it is Cheney’s handwriting. You can get the handwriting into evidence by stipulation as an uncontested fact.
Also, any lay person who can make a sufficient founddation of being familiar with Cheney’s handwriting can authenticate it. it will not be hard to get it inot evidence and if I understand the pre-trial motion practivce, PAtFitz intends to use it

Ya gotta understand – this isn’t The Trial. It’s a pre-cursor sort of trial, maybe. This one has only to do with Scooter Libby and his statements and actions which have served, actually, to delay The Trial.
He’s charge only with false statements (I think), perjury, and obstruction of justice (which, by Fitz’s theory) is why we are NOT having The Trial yet.
Neither Scooter, nor Cheney, nor anyone else, has yet been charged with the traitorous outing of Valerie Plame – which would lead to what I call “The Big Trial”.

This is a hell of an idea. All you redstaters: Call every single public library in your state and request this book. They are all right next to each other in the phone book. No excuses.
[opens THE cabinet looking for phone book and shit falls out all over the place]
110 emptywheel:
At the very least, I would think Cheney would have to answer how he came to be the first to tell Libby about Plame’s employment. After all, this was one of the things he was supposed to have on his mind, per his boss. (I must say, if his memory is the swiss cheese they’re depicting, he surely shouldn’t have been working in the White House to begin with! Did he buy his law license at Sears?) Surely from there would be some questions regarding his notes to Libby to check out how they could refute this op-ed.
Libby’s “bad lawyer” and memory defense will fall apart should anyone bring up how skilfully he got Marc Rich pardoned by 42 in the waning daze of 1/01.
NYRB (New York review of Books) often waits until two or more books on the same subject are published to assign a writer to compare the authors’ takes on the topic. But their reviews are the most professional and savvy there are. I suspect they’ll wait until Murray Waas’s book is out and the trial over. I’m still estimating the trial will last into mid or late April, because Cheney’s going to go into cardiac arrest once he realizes what a tight corner Fitz has painted him into, resulting in a recess while the Veep recovers.
Ideas for Book Promotion:
1) Media Reform Conference in Memphis, Jan. 12-14
http://www.freepress.net/conference/
I have contacted Gabriel Day of the Peace Resource Project who will be exhibiting at this event and he is willing to table the book in the exhibition hall in Memphis next weekend. If I can be of further assistance in making a connection for you, please call me at [Mod Note; phone number removed].
2) “The Real News” is launching its beta version in February. Naturally, they’ll be looking to feature Marcy Wheeler, or reviews of “Anatomy of Deceit” which won’t be scooped by the New York Times.
http://www.iwtnews.com/about
I’d feel certain that the IWT team will be happy to meet with anyone acting as an agent for the book at the Memphis gathering.
3) Self-publishing a news item about the book release seems to me to be a natural at venues like YouTube, GoogleVideo and/or Current TV.

You won’t be able to read before the trial unfortunately. There was an issue with the printer so the book isn’t coming off press until 1/17 (I’m trying to improve that date) and then it takes a while for the books to move around the country. I would imagine Amazon will show it as available on 1/19, but they still have to ship it to you. Those indie stores that order in signficant quantities – like Comman Language – will be shipped directly from the printer so those close to MI will have it the fastest.
We thought about trying to get the books off press earlier, but that would have been impossible when we were scheduling this out.
I just finished SPOTLIGHTING all the print media on the list. I’ll try to get the radio & tv media tomorrow at work.

To my knowledge (Looseheadprop, please correct me if I’m wrong) false statements to the FBI, perjury and Obstruction of Justice are still felonies. Therefore, all rules of evidence still apply. I agree that all of the above would be VERY interesting. But it’s not gonna happen unless Fitz calls Cheney as his own witness. On cross, all counsel can ask about is the questions which were put forward on direct examination. Issues that were not addressed on direct examination are out-of-bounds on cross.
Unless Fitz wants to put Cheney on the stand and ask his own questions on direct, which I don’t think he’ll do (because he may have his own indictment waiting for Cheney, and to call a witness as your own tends to vouch for his credibility) these things will remain remain unaddressed for a while yet.
ooooooooooooh! love it!

You sound like me. In my case both the creativity and the stuffed to overflowing cabinets are ADHD. Our creativity will save the world. If we can find what we need.
The idea and desire to contact every single library…that’s ADHD. We can accomplish miracles, under the right working conditions. Getting the right working conditions, that’s the bane of our existence. If you know somebody like this, brilliantly creative but disorganized to a ridiculous extreme, help them. You may be helping the next Einstein. Or at least the next egregious.
And for the historical record, whoever invented Spotlight is a genius. Take a bow.
The first (3-day) week of the trial is likely to be largely taken up with jury selection, so the book should be available in plenty of time for the bulk of the trial, starting January 22nd and thereafter, if it’s off press by January 17th. Sounds like an order through Common Language in MI (linked above by EW in #14) will get it to you as fast as possible, except for those able to meet up with emptywheel herself, and her own personal box of books in D.C. (if she delays her trip till the 17th in order to pick some up from the printer to bring along with her…).
There may even be unscheduled CIPA-related pauses in the trial to finish sorting out classified evidence matters, which would give everyone a chance to catch up with the book.
[Emily/TheOtherWashington, I agree with you that the 1/15 MLK Day start date on the court’s schedule is an error, and that the official start of jury selection as of now is Tuesday, January 16th (apparently at 9:30 a.m. in Courtroom 5).]

Egregious – our hero at Spotlight is Mark Steckel and he is a loyal FDL lurker (and commenter when he’s not in the middle of moving) – great guy who built an amazing tool for us all to use!
Ann in AZ @ 212
I agree Ann, however Jayt is holding out hope that once the umpire gets the sand out his eyes, he will see some more crimes. That’s a noble wish and I wish it too. (Littleprop still disses what she calls the “doofy” baseball analogy)
Oooh, I’m not too late LOL. For some reason I have a feeling Ari Fleischer is going to prove to be a larger than expected factor in the unravelling of this tale. I can’t explain why though. Just a hunch.
Marcy,
It is good to know that the $’s I donated have been well spent. Thank you for this effort! Make sure Fitz gets his copy!
Siun- Bookshop Santa Cruz would be another great contact. And, they also have a special “Bush Countdown” keychain-

According to Sept news stories, Libby does indeed plan to take the stand at his trial. Whether he really will is an interesting question.
jayt @ 222
Scoots has to go on the stand, at this point. Every single decision made wrt the memory defense–and the better part of two months work wrt CIPA discussions–relates to Scoots’ trial appearance. He will get up and talk about his “dots”–his powerpoint defense where he describes how important and busy he is so he should just be forgiven for outing a CIA NOC.
Don’t forget. He things he can do Ollie one better.
Agh!! So sorry to miss the bulk of this Book Salon!! But I had a meeting with the local Dem organization tonight that I couldn’t miss, will have to settle for the EPU Zone.
So very happy to see an obvious talent and passion coalesce and transsubstantiate itself through Marcy via Jane, Kos and the rest of the invisible hands behind ‘Anatomy of Deceipt’.
Must say, as a fellow Michigan resident with ties to the U.P., I love the cosmic parallel in the title between ‘Anatomy of a Murder‘ and ‘Anatomy of Deceipt’. Groovy — my grandfather was a witness to the first, and I’m a witness to the second. How synchronistic.
VG – thanks! added to my list!
Brownandserve @ 226
I have no reason for thinking so, but I have the same vibe.
Brownandserve @ 226
Agree–Ari’s got quite a courtroom appearance coming.
looseheadprop @ 225
lhp, you’re such a kind soul. Actually, I kinda liked Ann’s reference in Catholic terms. This one’s for venial sins – hopefully the next one is for the mortal sins.
TheOtherWA @ 229
It seems that the arrogance of this administration is so far beyond reality that it is possible that Irving thinks he’s smarter than Fitz. If so . . . .
barrels of popcorn will be needed.
Fitz on oneside and Waxman and friends on the otherside will be driving those fools in the White House into a tailspin. I can’t blame Harriet Myers wanting to take a powder. Dick’s calendar will be full.
Siun @ 224
I offer a toast to Mark Steckel, an unsung hero of the brave attempt to take back our country before it’s too late.
AZ Matt @ 237
There’s no way Harriet had the heft to deal with the category 5 hurricane that is aiming itself for the WH.
bring it on.
Marcy — how are you keeping up? I see you posted to the MI Blog ring, too. ;-)
Hmmn… Emptywheel and Looseheadprop agreeing with me makes me think my hunch isn’t as half-baked as most of my brown ‘n serve ideas LOL.
OT – duh – Military `surge’ not enough to save Iraq, U.S. commander says
It seems I will be reading about the trial from an undisclosed location in Russia :)
And yes, I am pulling back from the fray, specifically I am giving myself permission not to cover the
cause of WWIIIupcoming war against Iran. This is a burst of optimism that there will be other more important issues in my future that are worth saving me for.Maybe optimism isnt the right word.
There might be events in the future that i can help with if i survive the current era. A useful concept, going with it for now.
new thread
woot woot
Speaking of “bring it on” I found this on the docket:
Yeah, baby! Camping out at the courthouse. Scooter has no idea what’s about to hit him.
egregious @ 220
Agreed. Can we help that person add congresscritters and senatorial self-importants to the list?
I can type fast as shit AND with a few less typos than LHP.
egregious @ 243
Please take care of yourself. We worry.
RevDeb @ 248
Ya tozhe. [me too, i also worry]
RevDeb @ 239
Whoever moves into the WH counsel position needs to have no morals in order to represent his/her clients.
EW
Thanks for all you’ve done. This old gumshoe would like to remind you what the shift sergeant would tell all the guys on “Hill Street Blues” at the end of roll call.
“Be careful out there”
T – I can type fast as shit AND with a few less typos than LHP.
No one gets credit for having fewer typos than lhp, that is the known universe. It’s how we know it is her and not some impostor.
AZ Matt @ 250
That won’t be hard to find in the repig. ranks of lawyers. Wouldn’t it be fun to see Yoo actually have to work on the record rather than scheme under the radar? He’d shrivel up.
Rayne @ 240
LOL
I did that before this started. I’m just trying to do a bunch of local political stuff before the trip(s) to DC and the craziness start.
Will we be seeing you at coffee on the 17th?
TheOtherWA @ 246
I was laughing at that too. Though I also suspect it’s a way to get cheap office space if you’re a Special Prosecutor working on a slim budget.
Elliot Ness is right. Take care of yourself, Egregious. And thanks for visiting my blog.
AZ Matt @ 250
I am calling Yoo oooo ooooo…..;)
Ha, ha, good point. Gotta be creative working on a shoestring budget.
I have a correction to make. Once I drop off emptywheel’s book to my local public library, it will appear in topic searches by patrons in the public libraries of 35 separate Massachusetts towns, including Lexington and Concord. This virtual card catalog is appropriately named the
Minuteman Library Network Catalog
pdaly @ 259
I’ll put in a request too. I’m on the same system.
thanks Marcy
Good to here that, RevDeb.
Good to hear that, RevDeb
pdaly @ 262
are you on our MA Roots list? We’re a pretty active bunch (at least the core group is)
TheOtherWA @ 258
Actually, he has a virtually unlimited buget, just like Starr. Fitz just used self discipline and good judgement, unlike Starr
No, sorry to say I have not heard of it.
How do I join?
Marcy! thanks for all your time here today – so much great information and great ideas for the work ahead!
Apologies for going off topic, but I want to recruit activist whenever possible.
pdaly @ 266
send me an e-mail at my name above at mac dot com and I will add you. Scarecrow, KathrynMA. selise, Prof. Foland, and McGee are the most active though the list has about 50 names on it.
EW — oops, sorry to step away, also trying to wrap up some political stuff here before a work deadline this coming week.
Hell yeah, I’ll see you on the 17th, already got a sitter lined up for the kids. You sticking around for dinner after the coffee, or are you going to be beleaguered by demands for pressers?
edit: if I don’t see a response here, I’ll catch you on the MI blog ring.
egregious @ 219
Egregious
My husband fits the mold. All flat surfaces are filing cabnets. After 31 years of marriage my tonque is raw from biting it and not saying anything as I trip over the articles and electronics!
Rayne @ 269
No no, I set aside time for that event. I’ll see you at dinner, too.
L B Art & Egregious:
Not sure if you know about this but Thom Hartman (yes, that Thom Hartman, star of progressive radio) wrote a very insightful book on ADD called Attention Deficit Disorder, a Different Perception – Amazon has the latest edition. I worked for Thom many years ago and saw the first edition which proved very helpful to our family!
Siun @ 272
siun,
Hartman has been doing some great work lately on framing and “chunking” on his radio show. I finally forked over the dough for AAR premium and have been downloading his podcasts. Friday’s has a large segment on it worth listening to. He’s trying to coach us all on how to talk with the wingnuts and win the arguments.
I’m always late to the party. Congratulations and thank you to everyone at Team Emptywheel for all of your hard work and dedication.
Libby himself has already identified the VP handwriting on the clipped article, hasn’t he? I found it listed as grand jury exhibit 8 and Libby’s testimony in this linked PDF
I figure this is old news but I thought someone asked about it earlier.
Marcy, if you’re still around, I apologize for misspelling you name way back @ 215. I can’t wait to read the FDL analysis when Ari testifies. Your expertise is something that the MSM can’t bring to the reporting.
Siun @ 272
Thank you for the post. I have read a few of T Hartmann’s books and I love his radio broadcast. He filled in for Franken the last two weeks while Frankin was in Irag, and I made sure I didn’t miss him while working on art work. I’m sorry he’s not at the right time now.
I teach art to elementary kids and I am finding more and more are labeled all sorts of things. Not to disparage it, but the parents love the excuse.
But maybe it’s also that there is usually no art in the school, so they have no visual outlet?
I just ordered the book at Amazon. They say it will ship on January 28. Hopefully it will come sooner.
I realize I’ve been EPU’d, which is fine.
If anyone has any comments you can email me at Brosart AT west.net or look at my website at www. LyndaBrothers.net.
I would love to get a discussion from parents of young children about the prevalence of HDHD etc.and why it’s happening. Did we just not see it before, or is it happening with more regularity? I am not a doctor, but I am in the school system and see all sorts of problems kids and the arts in school is so far not on the beaten track most times in schools that we are saying it’s not important to communicate visually.

Good call on the cocktail weenies–but did you keep “Fitzmas”?! It’s important to get that holiday recognized, y’know ;-).
“Out a spy” on the cover should emphasize that the spy outed was one of OURS, doing counterproliferation work. You may want to adjust the wording if that’s still possible.
