Over the next few weeks, Senate Democrats plan to hold at least 11 hearings just on Iraq. In the House, one of the Democrats’ most dogged investigators is waiting to spring his committee on a different mission – suspected government fraud.

Much has been said in this first week of the new wave Congress about the “Surge” and Bush’s seemingly blind eye to the mandate of the Nov 2006 Elections. This much needed authority to crack down on corruption will be a make or break affair for Bus…

If the legislation passes, and I’m sure it will, the 110th Congress will have exceeded the GOP-controlled Congress, in cracking down on profiteers, by leaps and bounds.

Not hard to do. It seems that the 109th did NO cracking down. Rather, they were shills for the profiteers. In their pockets, and in bed with.

As it turns out, BearingPoint’s current $2 million contract with the State Department to administer the government’s Iraq policy process is, in fact, small potatoes compared to the billions of dollars in contracts BearingPoint, Inc. has thus far received from USAID for projects just in connection with the economies of Iraq and Afghanistan.

BearingPoint, unsurprisingly therefore, turns up on the Center for Corporate Policy’s list of one of ten major corporations in 2004 to profit the most from the Iraq war as well as one of the top 100 federal contractors overall. What distinguishes BearingPoint from companies that have profited even more – for instance Halliburton and Lockheed Martin – is that BearingPoint’s largest contracts come from USAID, not the military.
