Gotta think bigger. The nuts have a huge investment in getting the things done that bush has accomplished, and would not take kindly to seeing all their work undone. Let’s say that means that they have already chosen their candidate for 2008, much as they chose bush before 2000. These folks will have huge resources, enough to pay for Giuliani’s playbook and much much more. Getting rid of Giuliani early is merely picking low-hanging fruit. They won’t worry so much about McCain, as indications are he will sink of his own weight. So whoever they have in their pocket is not so much in evidence right now. Think maybe Gingrich, who is slimy and ambitious enough to be their stooge. They won’t worry about the Democrats for a while; remember, they have deep practice at overcoming them, through their usual corrupt election practices.

Saw a cspan republican stategists panel and 3 or 4 out of 6 said it would be gingrich. This was 6 or 7 months ago.

Agree, think bigger, think master planning. I kinda thought McCain was their stooge, though. Gingrich? Interesting – maybe try to dress him up as a hopeless backwoods idealogue pseudo- an intellectual…

Wolfie doesn’t have much depth. In Clinton’s last term he flew into Monterey with the traveing press corps following Clinton back from a vacation in Hawaii. Leon Panetta, then out of office, hosted Clinton for a big rally on the new CA State University Monterey Bay campus. I was one of the volunteers to herd the press corps to their bleacher and I drew Wofie to escort to his seat when he swaggered across the lawn all by himself. I felt a little sorry for him for it was painfully obvious he was shunned and marginalized by his fellows in the press corps. He straggled back to the press bus as he arrived appearing perfectly miserable. We snarky voluneers, spying his obvious elevator shoes and attitude nicknamed him SMC – small man complexed.

Congress has the Constitutional power to stop the Iraq war. They can defund it.

I used to think so too, but now I’m not so sure. I heard a guest on one of the newsertainment shows mention that the military budget has been funded, in general terms and amounts that would allow the preznit to shuffle the funds around to avoid it.

I think the greater question is, if we can’t have a timetable for withdrawal for fear of ‘evildoers’ waiting it out, how could the ‘temporary surge (escalation)’ be anything but the same? Anyone notice how it snuck in to be accepted terms of now upwards of 40.freakin’,000?

Okay, this is a DOUBLE EPU. Rehnquist was taking 3 times the normal amount of Placidyl, apparently for YEARS!!! The drug information site I use as a medical transcriptionist has this to say about it:
