No mention of the state roots project? It seems there was a pause in the tech development, but it’s a great idea and I hope you keep working on it. the idea of the ‘national’ site connecting to ‘local’ action is great. And it worked! Through the project I met people in New York who lived nearby and we joined a local media reform group and helped set up a public hearing with FCC commissioner Copps last month that 500 people attended in Hyde Park fighting media consolidation.

Good morning to all on the last of 2006.

Thanks so much Pach both for what you have expressed above and all of the work you did to try to herd us cats over the past year.

If I were to add anything to the list it would be that we have planted the seeds for a new era of cooperation with our elected officials (I hope). For one, the new Gov. of MA, Deval Patrick is including bloggers in his effort titled “Civic Engagement.” With any luck, the conversations will continue now that he is in office. It would be great if that happened with some of our other progressives. Oh, and getting us on board with 50 Simple Things . . . which we could use a reminder to pick up again and get back to work.

As for next year, I like the idea of being the the brain trust/fact checkers/oppo research team, not just for elections but for legislation and confirmation hearings. The blogisphere is an AMAZING resource for our elected officials to use if they have the smarts to do so.

Also, suin makes some good points about corporate responsibility. It would be great to have a regular feature that highlights the corporations that do well by doing good. The more we know about them, the more we can target our spending toward them. On occasion I’m sure there are really bad ones we can slam, but it is harder to find the good ones and we would all do well to know who they are so that we can keep them going.

Sorry to be so late to the discussion, but I almost never can do late night saturdays as much as I would like to.

A blessed and healthy, and just year for all!

Mornin’ Marion
And thanks for knocking down the firewall

What and embarrasment of half-mad cases
Krugman in particular ignores the impact of the Right on education which may well have the greatest impact in our ability to recover from all the more immediately obvious problems.
Oh, and that dependence on foreign energy sources that was neglected until fas prices hung around over $3 for a while.
Oh, and the disdain for science which led our legislature to spend more time talking abour a brain-dead woman and the (totally unfounded) effect of same sex led families on the institution of the family, while ignoring global warming and deforestation….

mornin’ egregious - help yourself dahlin’, this and tomorrow morning are where I traditionally treat myself to either Blue Mountain or Kenyan

great news about your niece’s betrothal and Boris

for any long time readers lurking - I’d like to take us all back to that first time Jane & Christy ‘disappeared’ and left us in Pachacutec’s care - most of us went all WATB on him, wondering where they were, just how long they were gonna be gone, who the hell is this Incan Sex God anyway, etc. ?!?!?

my brain and archive retrieval skills are too fuzzy to pull up any good examples, BUT - I believe that was the beginning of Rootz with Pach doing yeoman’s work, laying the foundation for the work ahead with some incredibly well written and practical posts on what had to be done and how to do it - he looks flat out prescient at this point in the ride, doncha think ? (of course Jane and Christy’s wisdom in plucking him from the comments should go without saying :])

with minimal hindsight, many of us will find the catalyst for our reawakened activism in Pacha’s posts and his ungodly patience and willingness to bring us all along

All Hail Pachacutec !

(and I swear to Gaia, if this comment gets EPU’d, . . .)

Good morning, folks. I’ve got pots of tea and coffee for anyone who wants, and the biscuits are almost ready to come out of the oven. In the NYT today Nicholas Kristof has some ideas on how W can burnish his “legacy.” Like he’d pay attention…
