If there's one phrase I will always associate with George Bush, one we've heard a gazillion times, and one that epitomizes the intellectual chasm this President has built between himself and the country, that phrase is the one that begins with "It's important for [everyone else] to understand . . ." How many times has this President lectured us with those words to remind us of our ignorance and our inability to grasp what's important?
On Thursday, the President emerged from his home in Crawford Texas to tell the nation, once again, that it is the American people, and not he or his closeted advisers, who just don't get it. He had just huddled for three hours plus lunch with what can only laughingly be called his "national security team" — for how could anyone seriously award that title to a group that has done more to undermine US and global security than any presidency in our lifetimes? This team remains focused on how to succeed in Iraq, rather than how to promote and protect national and global security, and everyone except those in Mr. Bush's constricting inner circle now realizes these are not the same.
Following this misdirected meeting, Mr. Bush condescended to speak to the media to announce . . . what? Only that the day's meeting had brought him "one step closer" to announcing his secret plan to send up to 20,000 more troops to help us succeed in Iraq. If that was the meeting's output, he might also have mentioned, but apparently didn't see the equally relevant connection, that the morning's sunrise, the earth's continued rotation, and the daily tide had accomplished the same outcome. If all we're waiting for is the day on which the President announces his secret plan to succeed, then every day's passing is a step forward.
At least our military has come up with the missing purpose for the extra troops, that clearly defined, limited and achievable mission that everyone says is essential to justify the permanent escalation surge the President has secretly planned all along. Here it is, and one wonders how long it took to do this:
“The mission that most people are settling on has to do with using them in a security role to quell violence in Baghdad and the surrounding area,” said a senior Pentagon official involved in the planning.
The President himself had nothing to announce other than he had nothing to announce. As we've come to expect, and I to loathe about this Administration, his handlers sent him forth to keep his name and his face in our faces, just to remind us who is still "in charge." They persist in doing this even though there is dwindling evidence that this regime is consciously in control of events in Iraq or anywhere else. The Bush regime has been in policy freefall for months, yet they still behave as though they can will themselves in any direction other than down.
But the absence of anything substantive or new to announce did not prevent Mr. Bush from insulting us once again about all the things we need to understand but apparently don't. Here was Thursday's list:
“We want to help [the Iraqis] succeed,” he said, adding that “I fully understand that it’s important to have both Republicans and Democrats understanding the importance of this mission.
“It’s important for the American people to understand that success in Iraq is vital for our own security. If we were not to succeed in Iraq, the enemy — the extremists, the radicals — would have safe haven from which to launch further attacks. They would be emboldened. They would be in a position to threaten the United States of America.”
Dear Mr. President: Please stop suggesting that we don't understand. We get it. We know you've totally botched this war from the beginning. We know we're in a mess we didn't have to be in. We know we have a President and Vice President and Secretary of State and National Security Adviser who collectively misled the country into a war we never had to fight. We undertand that you and they have recklessly driven us into a quagmire and that there are no good options for getting out. We understand that no matter what we do, it could result in a tragedy for the Iraqi people, destabilize the Middle East, and bring further contempt for the United States. We get it.
We know you failed to heed the advice of those wiser and more prescient than you, while listening to those whose lack of judgment and lawless views and actions have damaged US honor for decades. We know you continue to listen to these same people.
We know you and your team didn't plan for the occupation, didn't plan to maintain order, didn't anticipate sectarian violence, didn't provide enough troops, didn't know how to create a nation from scratch, didn't know how to govern here (let alone there), didn't know whom you were fighting or why they'd fight back, didn't provide the right equipment, didn't provide enough funding, didn't watch the taxpayers' dollars, and can't account for billions worth in missing weapons that are now being used to kill our soldiers. We get it.
We know that everything your Administration has done so far has failed, and we know everything is getting worse. We know you can't acknowledge your own responsibility for these failures. We know you're not intellectually or emotionally capable of dealing with this mess, and we know there isn't a single grownup around you that any of us would trust protecting their pet guppies, let alone their children, parents, husbands and wives.
So knock it off; cut the BS. Stop talking to us as though we are the children. Get some grownup help from the outside. Bring in a caretaker government to draft a plan to extract us from the hole you keep digging. And don't ever, ever again lecture us about how "the American people need to understand. . . ." Because we understand what's going on better than you ever will.
Sincerely,
The American people
P.S. Please leave your collective resignations under the door to the Oval Office by morning.

Great Job Scarecrow,
It kinda reminds me of a KO special comment.
I like the “leave your resignations at the door” part best. In a time when honor still mattered, someone who failed this utterly would resign without being asked.
The old phrase (referring to honor suicides committed by failed generals) was:
“Come back with your sword or on it”
Attaturk @ 3
That was cute. I wish I could hang around on what I expect will be a fun thread, but I gotta haul ass of to court this AM. See ya’ll later!
Damn Scarecrow! Talk about on fire. I think KO should read this on his show.
Scarecrow, Thank you for this wonderful piece of writing. Now I can go on…after reading Lieberman’s column I felt a little woozy. Have you read Lieberman’s column in the post today?

Good morning gang.
Attaturk at 3 — that post is priceless. I love the Lieberman quote at the end.
Attaturk at 3 — Bravo, man. Simply bravo.
And a spew warning to everyone who goes to click thru — no liquids whatsoever. You’ve been warned.
Terrific, Scarecrow. A small typo note: “tradegy” should be “tragedy.”
Ever notice how Bush often says “I understand…”?
Sorry, Bushie, we don’t believe that b.s. either. Never did. Nohow.
Well, CERTAINLY everybody knows WE are all just a bunch of ignorant children who need spaced repetition to learn. Hmmmmm. Wonder why? Oh, I know. To quote Dubya: “The illiteracy level of our children are appalling.”
They sure is, Dubya. They sure is.
It is important for you people to understand that my deciderating takes time. There’s lots of scrub brush that needs clearin’ and pearch that need catchin’ here the Western White House.. heh heh heh. The steaks are

Spot on Scarecrow, thanks.

Thanks Christy & Scarecrow.
I’m just glad the modified painting didn’t come out looking too much like “Dogs Playing Poker”
Alright, a sort of double post. Nice to know some things work almost as poorly on occasion as Haloscan.
Please everyone who needs a little seasonal cheer. Lieberman4Lieberman is getting killed (metaphorically speaking of course) in the comments under his WaPo op-ed. The comments go on for pages. To view check the bottom of his op-ed where it says POST A COMMENT. Below that click on VIEW ALL COMMENTS.
Why we must win —
GWB in one of the 2000 debates: The purpose of our armed forces is to fight and win war.
OT-But must be noted. It didn’t take long for the smearing of Ford to commence. Yesterday was all about Ford’s critical comments regarding the war…..today’s headline at MSNBC ‘close relationship influenced his pardon of Nixon’. So much for any further discussion of the disasterous mess our pres has wrought on this nation.

Awesome post, Scarecrow! Nice picture of the chimp holding up his stupid dog while he’s saluting.
Bush’s deciderating is taking quite a long time because not all the media pundits are on the same page. Soooo, he is waiting for them to join him in his mess.
I heard twice just this morning about the ‘escalation’ of troops in Iraq. :) Yesterday I heard it too. Even better, no one corrected him or repeated the word ’surge’. Nope, each following pundit then said the word escalation.
Riesz Fischer @ 20
Have you noticed Barney doesn’t salute any more?
Re my comment #22, let me say that my smiley face after the comment about ‘escalation’ was NOT about the escalating of troops, but that the media is calling it what it is.
Just wanted to be totally clear.
Yes, I understand that:
The president is an idiot
The Iraq war was his choice
The debacles that occurred afterward are his responsibility
The blood and treasure wasted in Iraq will not be regained by spending more blood and treasure in Iraq.
His legacy is fixed. It is only the pride of this nation that can be salvaged through an immediate impeachment.

nice post, Scarecrow!
Solai at 6:05 am. I agree, but I think it helps us long term with Scooter. IMHO, Woodward took his marching orders from Jim Baker and other Republicans who want to reign in Junior. This is a fight to the death for Republicans. It appears Rove and the White House had only one way to discredit Ford, the Nixon pardon. I hope they keep playing that, because it has to really piss off Scooter, who is counting on his pardon. If we could get David Gregory or someone else to ask Bush if he will consider pardoning Scooter, things could get interesting. If Bush said, “no pardon,” Scooter might seriously consider flipping. If Bush says “yes,” or “I haven’t decided yet,” it paints him more with the Nixon brush and as the worst President ever.
and hey… the shrub is NOT going to Ford’s state funeral

Great one!
Can anybody imagine how the right wing would have gone nuts if Bill Clinton had saulted while holding a dog? Good Grief.
The boneheads who don’t get it take the fascist approach… lots of security forces and civil unrest will stop.
This of course is true. If you flood a region with armed security personal rebellion, fighting and civil unrest is less likely.. intimidation to order at the end of a gun barrel.
Of course, this does nothing to remove the underlying cause of the problems and as soon as the fascists pull back (if they ever do)… up pops all the problems which usually mean struggle amongst groups withing the society (like Yugoslavia the “Balkans”) and armed rebellion against the authoritarians who lorded over the people with lock down security.
This is really a no brainer.. and those who “don’t get it” have their heads up their asses.
The US has not only not planned well for invading Iraq, but the invasion would prove to have exactly the inevitable disasterous “unwinnable” situation of chaos which now exists.
We marched into a pit of quicksand and we only keep sinking lower the more we fight.
Duh
Thank you. Excellent writing.
Can someone predict the earliest date that Congress can take some action on this? Pull the plug, cut the funds, whatever the options might be.
Bush’s patronizing tone (while sounding like a totaly idiot) is so unfailingly grating. Try as I might, I can’t imagine it sounding different to anyone, yet those faithful few still adore him. What do they hear? Maybe they are so used to the tones of those smarmy telepreachers that they find it wraps them in some sort of gauze of “we’re better than you pagans and misunderestimators” – I don’t know. But I can’t listen or watch anymore. Thankfully, no one down here seems to have the stomach to broadcast much of the tripe.
Dear America,
It’s important for you to understand that we’ll have this insurgency whipped once we implement talking points from a year old anonymous e-mail.

We were sitting in the Dallas airport watching CNN when Bush spoke – I was livid and disgusted and the man behind us was overheard saying “what doesn’t this guy get?” We had a friendly, liberal discussion over the idiot-in-chief…but then, we were all headed to Hartford, not staying in Bush country.

Just read the Lieberman column. Shouldn’t do that sort of thing so close to breakfast, which was hard to hold down. I don’t know if my stomach is getting weaker in my old age, or the insults to it are simply getting bigger. Lieberman’s column is a huge insult to the intelligence of the American people.
What stands out: No plan B. These morons have never had a plan B to cover the almost certain failure of plan A. This is what happens when you run a war like it was a media campaign. That’s all these guys know how to do. I guess I ‘don’t understand’. I don’t understand why a war should be treated like a media campaign.
Scarecrow @ 45 says
Right, another favorite of mine was the “Rather than engaging in hand-wringing, carping or calls for withdrawal, we must summon the vision, will and courage to take the difficult and decisive steps needed for success and, yes, victory in Iraq.” line. That is when my head exploded.
Although innumerable points he makes in his column are based on false assumptions and downright false information, the thing that bothers me the most is the fact that to get these 20,000 troops we will need to call on, yet again, the same troops back to Iraq for 3rd or 4th tours. This is a tragedy. These young men and women are already breaking. (Here is an especially heartbreaking report from south of DC http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..00732.html)
I wonder if there will be any response from a democratic leader?
“Its important to understand…” sounds to me like the sort of phrase one keeps hearing from an alcoholic. There are always excuses being put forward for the action (what ever it is), and it is up to US to figure out why viable decisions for everyone else don’t work as far as this person is concerned. As in,”It is important to understand that my problems (circumstances) are different than yours. YOU just don’t get it….
Thanks SP, CPA, great read.
Anyone who wants, can leave a comment for Lieberman4Lieberman. WaPo provides a comments section at the bottom of his op-ed and there are pages of
viciousnegative comments forBoJoezoeit will be sooo easy for him to move the troops from Iraq to Iran with very little fan fare.
I really think that is what he is planning.
He got rid of Rumsfeld but he is still gunning for Iran and he is finding the most expedient way to do it.
Richmond @ 52
Well, Chimpy IS an alcoholic… and possibly Cheney too.
NZ Expat @ 37
His supporters don’t hear the condescending tone because they know he’s not talking to them. In their minds, they’re at his side talking to the rest of us, and they don’t hear their own condescending tone, either.
“It’s important to understand” is the daily “repeat after me” tutorial his handlers developed for the Neocon Prez 101 course.
twolf1 @ 55
Absolutely! And Dry Drunks (as probably is the most appropriate descriptor for Bush now) are the meanest, nastiest bunch. Here too there is no evidence of any sort of empathy (soldiers’ death and maiming, Katrina victims) or larger vision (past, present, future) outside of self-needs (biking, vacationing, sports events, right wing punditry praise). By the way, did the “girls” make it back to Texas for the holidays, or did they find it all too unpleasant too?
Connie at 51 — there’s another misdirection in Lieberman/Bush’s escalation. As Powell explained on Face the Nation, any “surge” could only come from delaying/accelerating planned troop rotations. But that is not sustainable unless we tap further and again into the National Guard and Reserves. But Lieberman/McCain and the Pentagon (given the “mission” quote above) are not talking surge; they’re talking about an indefinite increase in the number of troops — but none of them has said, “and we are proposing to call up the National Guard and Reserves more and for longer than we were doing before.” The neocons have been more explicit about the need for a semi-permanent increase in troop levels in Iraq. We need Powell to remind the media again what the neocons are proposing, because they’re already forgetting.
Scarecrow — this is such a great post. Sitting down with my second cuppa coffee and re-reading it. The smug, smirking idiocy with which he tosses this line out irritates me to no end, and I’m so glad that you thought to call him on it.

cbl at 61 — Good to see you. :)
GrandmaJ — if you are still around, was thinking about you over the holidays and hoping that you and yours had a lovely Christmas. Give us an update on your grandson’s progress when you get a chance, will you?
I noticed in the NYT article that Bush wished to consult with Congress. The new Congress will go into session on January 4th. This is the approximate date that American military deaths in Iraq will surpass the 3,000 mark. Timing as they say is everything. Announcing the revved up turbo charged Iraq plan over Christmas would have been disastrous. Best case scenario: it would have gotten lost among the wrapping paper and the last minute sales. Worse case: in the midst of the “peace on earth, good will to men” season the public would reject sending more troops into the Iraq hellhole.
So the Big Day was kicked into the new year and that is where the 3,000 deaths milestone comes in. To bring out the “strategy” around the 4th would risk competing with the story of the new Congress and the 3000th dead American soldier. Waiting to “consult” with the new Congressional leaders would effectively delay the announcement while at the same time giving it some bipartisan gloss. And, of course, by the time any subsequent announcement was made, the 3000th American would be safely dead.
In fact, since January 4 is a Thursday, it is unlikely any announcement would be made until the following week’s news cycle at the earliest. Trotting out the latest revamped and freshly painted Iraq policy around that 3,000 mark would be radioactive, but could the same be said when the number hits 3,020 or 3,030. Would there be the same emotional impact? Except, of course, for the individual families involved. 3000 is an artificial and arbitrary number but that doesn’t change how we see and feel about it. Bush, Rove, and Cheney know this.
Bush has had the elements of his new strategy in place since before Christmas. Sure, it takes some time to finalize them but not this long. The dithering in Crawford is about angling for the best possible date for a policy debut. Who knows how many American service men and women will have died in the meantime. 50? 70? 90? In the Bush White House, timing is everything. The lives of America’s soldiers not so much.
Why, it’s Barney the Neodog!

Yes, again it all boils down to the way this information is presented by the experts, talking heads and other media folk. Semi-permanent/permanent increase in troop levels = escalation. It is amazing (and sickening) how this administration consistently twists the language to deceive – “surge” indeed. Illustrating again the condescending attitude the administration holds towards the American people – exactly as you discussed in your great post this morning.
There are those intrepid few who have understood this glaring truth for quite some time. FDL is, of course, a subset of intrepids; but, here’s the classic one-line rejoinder from BC in May, 2005:

“The mission that most people are settling on has to do with using them in a security role to quell violence in Baghdad and the surrounding area,” said a senior Pentagon official involved in the planning.
Yes, this sounds just like the words from that infamous quote of Wolfowitz in his Vanity Fair interview discussing the Iraq War roll out strategy sessions.
Remember how they already determined the policy- facts be damned, that they were going to attack Iraq. But there was a glitch.. they needed a reason for the War to
sell to the massesjustify the invasion. So Wolfowitz informs us in his interview how theyinventeddecided what reason(s) they were going to use. “The truth is that for reasons that have a lot to do with the U.S. government bureaucracy we settled on the one issue that everyone could agree on which was weapons of mass destruction as the core reason.”Now once again we have the policy in place(escalation of troops)determined by the Deciderer with an assist of his best
militaryadvisors-(Rove, Cheney, Rice, -ht digby) and now this time it’s the Pentagon’s job to come up with and to “settle” on a reason as to why Junior and company need to escalatefor an enabling press to spew to the masses. This is so barse ackwards……arrrghhhh! Yes Mr. Bush, just what is the noble reason and mission more people will be needed to sacrifice their lives for …wait we can’t tell you it until we’ve settled on it, but honest, we need more and we will tell you after the first of the year.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t we already try this
surgeescalation? Didn’t we add more troops for the 2005 Iraqi elections but never drew them down again? Can’t exactly say those extra troops turned the place into a garden of delight.Note to self: The above picture of Bush and Barney reminds me of yesterday’s segment on the History channel of Hitler’s last days with his retinue down to only his faithful and adored dog and his faithful mistress Eva Braun. Scarecrow. Such an incredible post. Deserves to be shared far & wide. Thankyou so much! I can’t wait to send links to a bunch-a folks. ;->
In spite of his talk of his sorrow for the “moms and dads in Iraq” the only reason Bush is ditherig in Crawford wth 3,000 Americans dead and counting is that he is frantically trying to game the system so he won’t go down in history as the most ignorant and incompetent president this country has ever had. The man is a complete coward. He didn’t have the nerve to fire Rumsfeld when it was clear that Rummy had failed to supply our military with armor or the available vehicles that were built to better withstand IED explosions. This was when Rumsfeld was being cute about going to war with the army you have. Since it was war of choice shouldn’t we have waited for the army we needed and could protect? Oh, no. Rumsfeld wantted to show off his new “lean and mean” army. That’s the one where you don’t send in an overwhelming force and get taken apart by the enemy. Bush should be impeached and removed from office. It’s the only way we can stop this wilful psychopath from keeping on keeping on. All he cares about at this stage is removing as much of the stench of a failed presidency from his place in history as he can. That’s what all this story of “consulting”. “considering” in Crawford is about. As Fareed Zakaria (sp?) said on Jon Stewart the other night. and I’m paraphrasing, Bush doesn’t need consultants, he needs an analyst.
Since no one from Bush’s family will serve in his war, does that mean that they “understand” or they “do not understand”?
Well said, well spoken.
On DKos this am a commenter had this to say about the cabal’s Crawford meeting. I think this is exactly right.
The same George W. Bush who so proudly declared himself a “war president” is leading the United States to strategic bankruptcy and geopolitical disaster. As Commander-in-Chief, President Bush displays all the hallmarks of the failed executive. With a nod to Stephen Covey, call them the “Seven Habits of Highly Defective Presidents.”
1. Name Names and Outsource Responsibility
2. Focus on the Process, Not the Plan
3. Set Dates to Turn Corners
4. Use New Slogans for An Old, Failed Product
5. Find New Uses for An Old, Failed Product
6. Announce Your New Product Before It’s Ready
7. Don’t Do The Market Research
For the analysis, see:
“Iraq and the 7 Habits of Highly Defective Presidents.”
Did anyone catch Bush’s angry, snobbish, smirking at The Kennedy Center Awards? He had the strangest expressions yet. What was that about? Did Laura piss him off before they got there or was he just pissed off at having to be in a place associated with Kennedy?
Remember how Les Aspin was canned for not supplying the right level of weaponry in Somalia, that led to the deaths of 18 Americans.
He was canned for the deaths of 18. Rumpsmelled had close to 3,000 dead before being tossed.
Also, remember there were no complaints about the press showing the blackhwawk down incident over and over again. Why didn’t the media focus on positive spin on that story.
By the way, with the hanging of Saddam are we about to be treated to another cadaver porn moment, al la Saddam sons Omay and ArryLay? Played over and over again?

Too late.
Flags were at half-mast over Parliament, the FO, Horseguards, Downing Street, etc. here in London y’day. For all I know they may still be. The reason: Ford’s passing.
I can’t remember if Reagan, LBJ, Kennedy, etc. got the same treatment. I’ll have to check. And for that matter I don’t know if Prime Ministers here get the same treatment.
Be that as it may, I’m writing to my MP, Glenda Jackson, to ask her to table the following question, “can the Prime Minister insure the country that the Union flag will not be flown at half mast to mark George Dubya Bush’s passing, whenever the blessed release comes”.
And here’s a suggestion for “our human community” generally. We need artists to get together and produce a design for a flag representing the “loathe this war and loathe this president” community. Get that design Betsy Ross’d and get that flag produced. And get it flying. All over the place. Flying at half mast. And it stays at half mast until the day that shite leaves office. When it goes up to three quarters mast. And it stays there until he drops dead. On that day – the day of blessed release – we (millions of us) run the sucker all the way up the flag pole.
I’m fairly serious about this. We can’t seem to get people out onto the streets these days. Marches on Washington seem to be more or less a thing of the past. But it wouldn’t surprise me at all if a large percentage of the 89 percent of the American population who think Bush has screwed up big time in Iraq (and a large percentage of the nearly 100 percent of the rest of the world who think he and what’s he wrought are an abomination) would be willing to turn the low skies black or whatever color with said flag.
You can’t get near him to demonstrate when he’s in town because “free speech zones” aren’t allowed within a mile of the president – well, how about a half-master flying from damn near every house and building and yard. Nobody’s congregating. Sanctity of private property and all that. Let’s see the MSM sidestep that “visual”. Let’s see the “spin-meisters” get to work on that one. First thing they’d do of course would be to get a loyalist flag up. But the thing is it’d be so badly outnumbered that…well, you’ll get my drift.
Scarecrow – great portrayal of “our” collective feelings about Bush! BUT, what are we proposing?
I LOVED Stephennnn’s comment about impeachment. Whether such an effort will succeed or not, it must be done as a start in restoring the USA’s good name worldwide. I love the straight talk of Nancy Pelosi, but I was very disappointed to hear her say that impeachment is “off the table”. Why?
The grounds for impeachment are much more substantive than those used to impeach Clinton (who showed no balls when he agreed to testify on video about what was a (disgusting, admittedly) private matter). So, we can all blog ourselves to death here, echoing the same complaints over and over again, but we need to move our attention to a PRACTICAL matter – call for the impeachment of the bums for a very valid reason: Misleading the US people and their elected representatives about the threat of weapons of mass destruction, etc, and involving us in a tragic war which will NOT have a good end. Impeach the bums and call in our non-ass-kissing friends (ass-kissing-friends = Great Britain)to help us establish some semblance of order in that British-made artificial country called Iraq.
Brel1 – I had a similar thought about Bushie-Baby while watching him at The Kennedy Center Awards: He looked so uncomfortable because he was in a tough crowd – face it, he’d rather be in some religious revival gathering! What does he have in common with artists and entertainers? “Bush” and “culture” do not rhyme; try “Bush” and “Religious Right Fanaticism”.
Wow, Scarecrow, you rock! What excellent posts. Thank you for stating so well what is in my heart.
How many times has this President lectured us with those words to remind us of our ignorance and our inability to grasp what’s important?
You mean you actually listen to that asshole?
Well, I guess somebody has to. I always figured that was Laura’s job.
And what’s with that picture, anyway? He looks like he’s saluting the goddamn dog. What an idiot.
Luv the post scarecrow, but my theory is that they know precisely what they’re doing.
It’s a Bushian Dialectic
Just a theory, your mileage may vary ;-)
Dear scarecrow,
That has always pissed me royally off, his condescention and insistance that we don’t “unnerstan’”. Thanks for putting it so eloquently.
Yours in America,
Mommybrain
Ps Maybe Barney has a better plan.
Who has the job of keeping him from drinking himself to death? All the grownups need to do is tell that guy to stand down…
To a warmonger, the only “way forward,” no matter whether “new” or not, is to create more wars or expand the one already being fought.
Scott Ritter emphatically states that BushCo is getting ready to bomb Iran. I agree with him.
Just as BushCo blew off Afghanistan in 2002 to shift troops and materials to Kuwait in preparation for their long-planned attack on Iraq, BushCo is presently shifting their focus (no matter what they say) from Iraq to a long-planned attack on Iran.
Thus, from BushCo (and their lackeys like Lieberman) calling for additional troops in Iraq and Kuwait (more than likely for “force protection” duties in case the Iranians (or their Iraqi proxies) counter-attack after Iran is attacked) to BushCo’s massive naval buildup in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, we have signs of BushCo’s plans.
Plus, no one is mentioning the massive buildup by BushCo of U.S. forces, as well as amphibious assault craft, mine sweepers, stealth fighters and stealth bombers, in the Arab emirates lining the Saudi side of the Persian Gulf, especially in proximity to the Strait of Hormuz. In fact, these Arab emirates have been rewarded by BushCo with sweetheart trade deals as reciprocation for their letting BushCo turn their countries into “staging areas” for whatever BushCo has planned regarding Iran.
Therefore, the incoming Democratic-controlled Congress should make their first order of business next week the passing of a law reaffirming the constitutional authority of the U.S. Congress regarding war declarations…with forceful language included telling BushCo that they HAVE to get congressional approval before launching any attack on Iran…especially after any “Gulf of Tonkin”-type incident BushCo might orchestrate in the Persian Gulf in the next month or so, after which BushCo would instantly blame Iran, whether Iran had anything to do with it or not.
I repeat, this legislation should be the first order of business addressed by the incoming Democratic majority in Congress. All other issues pale in comparison to what an attack on Iran would cause.
Plus, even though Bush and Cheney would veto whatever anti-Iran War legislation the Democratic-controlled Congress sent them, We The People would know the one’s responsible for plunging our nation even deeper into the BushCo hellstrom they’ve created in the Middle East.
Oh, and as far as the attached photo of Barney and Bush, Barney has Bush eating out of his hairy paw.
Hey, Barney is the Canine-in-Chief, isn’t he? Or maybe Mutt-in-Chief? Mongrel-in-Chief?
Uh, well, or maybe I’m confusing Barney with Bush?
Whatever.
You guys don’t get it! All Junior was doing by invading Iraq was “keeping the string intact”. The string being….well look at it this way;
Johnson/Nixon invading Vietnam using the Gulf Of Tonkin lie as reason. Ford equipped the Indonesian Gov’t with arms to massacre 1/3 the East Timor population. Ronnie Reagan invaded Grenada and the Bush Sr. invaded both Panama and Iraq. Bubba has his invasion of Haiti.
Numbnuts was just following the rest of the clowns as they hone US foreign policy and be a good neigbour.
You wonder why “America” (oops, let’s not include Canada in our dirty work)I mean the US is looking pretty dim in the eyes of the world.
