The first thing that incoming Democrats need to do next week is pass a resolution or enact a law stating that the Bush administration MUST get congressional approval before dropping any bombs on Iran or using any of our military forces at all in a preemptive attack on Iran…as per the U.S. Constitution.

Just so we’ll have on the record those U.S. senators or congresspeople who still believe that Bush can bypass the U.S. Constitution and launch preemptive wars without getting congressional authorization prior to any bombs dropping or anymore invasions occurring.

Bush and Cheney, of course, will veto any law of such a nature that lands on their desk in the White House, but Democrats need to make it clear from the very beginning that they do not support anymore war adventurism by the Bush administration.

But at least we will know where everyone stands on the issue of Bush starting another war, this time with Iran, especially with the Bush and Cheney plans to escalate the number of troops we have on the ground in Iraq and Kuwait, while they’ve also been (often secretly) building up our forces in the emirates (staging areas?) lining the south side of the Persian Gulf along with increasing our naval presence in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz.

Thus, incoming Democrats need to conduct their own preemptive legislative strike against any hare-brained Bush plan to attack Iran…and the sooner the better.

Any attempt by Bushco to expand the war zone in the Middle East to include Iran should be addressed first thing by the incoming Democrats.

My email to Downie:

Please correct the designation of Senator Joseph Lieberman as “an Independent Democratic senator from Connecticut.” You may not know this, but Senator Lieberman left the Democratic Party of Connecticut on 8/9/06 and opposed its nominee in his successful re-election to the United States Senate.

There is also an Independent Party, duly registered in Connecticut, of which he is not a member. His promises to organize the Senate remain just that.

Thanks for your attention to this rather untrivial detail. Readers expect your op-ed writer designations to be fact-based, not derived from the ego of the contributor.

Hooray for you Teddy - best letter I’ve seen in a long time. I especially appreciate your -”You may not know this, but Senator Leiberman left the Democratic Party of Connecticul on 8/9/06 and opposed its nominee in his successful re-election to the United States Senate.” (grin)

While we have custody of Saddam for security reasons, it is the Iraqi government which is eager to execute him. Specifically, Prime Minister Maliki comes from the Dawa Party and the death sentence stems from Saddam’s reprisals against the inhabitants of Dujail after a Dawa inspired assassination attempt against him. The timing is Maliki’s not ours.

The feeling I get is that most American officials would just as soon not execute Saddam, since it will just make the Iraq situation that much harder to control.

There are so many people in Iraq who would gladly kill Saddam that I don’t think you need to look any farther for motivations.

Christy (133) — cautionary note: the Dremel will only make the job faster, not necessarily more, um, graceful or readily accepted by the subject.

Spouse’s Weimaraner had its nails trimmed this way since birth, so it didn’t object to the noise or vibration of the Dremel. I used a regular clipper on my own Weimaraner, but she was pretty docile.

Doxies can be pretty wily and wicked little things, can’t they, especially when they get their dander up?
