I’ve seen depictions of trials where one lawyer objects to the opposing side seeking to damage the credibility of a witness that side has called on direct. However, in cross-examining Cheney, Fitzgerald would have the perfect right to try to question Cheney’s credibility on something he has given as direct testimony.
