I hate to say it but I’m guessing that Cheney will skate through this without breaking a sweat.

I’ve lost all confidence in our system of justice especially where priveledge and power are at stake.

GSD @ 95

Can these assholes ever hit him with a really hard question?

-GSD

From Justin Frank’s Bush on the Couch, pp 44 ff:

In my practice, I treat family member of alcoholics more frequently than alcoholics themselves. … Typically the family never knows when the alcoholic is going to be drunk, but the uncertainty extends beyond mere intoxication; the periods of nondrinking can be just as stressful …

The most common reaction is to walk on eggshells around the alcoholic, dreading the moment when the anxieties usually or formerly suppressed by spirits inevitably escape his control. … (big snip) …

If we are a nation of enablers, allowing our president’s untreated alcoholism to shape the national agenda, then special notice must be reserved for the news media. The most delicate eggshells of all have been those walked on by the members of the press. Throughout Bush’s first term, the news media have followed a “don’t ask, don’t ask” policy, treading carefully and lightly around Bush’s alcoholism — as evinced by their handling of the DUI revelation — and avoiding any tough question that might sound like a confrontation.

I added the emphasis. So, I think the answer is “no, these assholes can’t hit him with a hard question.

Christy,

If Cheney does provide videotaped testimony, can the videotape be edited by either side? I mean, what if Cheney comes off as too gruff or too arrogant or if he slips up with an answer? Can they start over?

love these throwback plame threads! so much to keep track of in the details, yet to me, it remains a simple case at its core: a crime was committed. someone lied to cover up the original crime creating a new crime which must be dealt with before resuming the prosecution of the original crime.

the talented defense teams will no doubt muddy the waters and slow the processes along the way, but teh fitz beats on…

btw- merry fitzmas firedawgs!

rumi 169 — here’s a brush-up, a blast from the past here at FDL, covers some of the declassification questions. Feedback from our own Mary and DKos’ Georgia10 in a post by Christy.

Good stuff.

Thanks for the great link. It’ll take some time to reread all of that. Was the last line of the order discussed? That would put the restrictions pending until taking effect at the end part of Sept, 2003….pretty convenient timing.

EO13292

Sec. 6.3. Effective Date. This order is effective immediately, except for section 1.6, which shall become effective 180 days from the date of this order.

March 25, 2003.
______________________
… Sec. 1.6. Identification and Markings. (a) At the time of original classification, the following shall appear on the face of each classified document, or shall be applied to other classified media in an appropriate manner:

      (1) one of the three classification levels defined in section 1.2 of this order;

      (2) the identity, by name or personal identifier and position, of the original classification authority;

      (3) the agency and office of origin, if not otherwise evident;

      (4) declassification instructions, which shall indicate one of the following:

            (A) the date or event for declassification, as prescribed in section 1.5(a) or section 1.5(c);

            (B) the date that is 10 years from the date of original classification, as prescribed in section 1.5(b); or

            (C) the date that is up to 25 years from the date of original classification, as prescribed in section 1.5 (b); and

      (5) a concise reason for classification that, at a minimum, cites the applicable classification categories in section 1.4 of this order.

(b) Specific information described in paragraph (a) of this section may be excluded if it would reveal additional classified information.

(c) With respect to each classified document, the agency originating the document shall, by marking or other means, indicate which portions are classified, with the applicable classification level, and which portions are unclassified. In accordance with standards prescribed in directives issued under this order, the Director of the Information Security Oversight Office may grant waivers of this requirement. The Director shall revoke any waiver upon a finding of abuse.

(d) Markings implementing the provisions of this order, including abbreviations and requirements to safeguard classified working papers, shall conform to the standards prescribed in implementing directives issued pursuant to this order.

(e) Foreign government information shall retain its original classification markings or shall be assigned a U.S. classification that provides a degree of protection at least equivalent to that required by the entity that furnished the information. Foreign government information retaining its original classification markings need not be assigned a U.S. classification marking provided that the responsible agency determines that the foreign government markings are adequate to meet the purposes served by U.S. classification markings.

(f) Information assigned a level of classification under this or predecessor orders shall be considered as classified at that level of classification despite the omission of other required markings. Whenever such information is used in the derivative classification process or is reviewed for possible declassification, holders of such information shall coordinate with an appropriate classification authority for the application of omitted markings.

(g) The classification authority shall, whenever practicable, use a classified addendum whenever classified information constitutes a small portion of an otherwise unclassified document.

(h) Prior to public release, all declassified records shall be appropriately marked to reflect their declassification.

just for a reality check to those of you that think any politician is going to help the people do anything;

do you have a bridge that you have to drive over to go to work?
if it falls, you are out of work
do you grow enough food in your area to take care all of your population?
do you rely on products that come to you every day because you expect them to? water, gas, electricity?

my fellow sheep, you need to consider putting things in order for yourselves, because as you know for certain, your government will not help you at all. they are there simply to make a profit for themselves, and to be re-elected so that they can do it again for 2 to 6 years.

just so you know, we have no money to fix the bridges or train tracks that bring the food, the oil, the medicine to your little burg
we have no school system that teaches people skills of value in anything but our own fragile system. People that work with their hands are undervalued, where people that only think are valued. I would ask which one you would prefer having with you if you were on your own?

now far be it from me to suggest that no one in our government cares about us, but I would like to see just one thing our government has done to address issues known to be life threatening for the people of this country. The FDA is owned by the pharma, so regulations be damned. the FCC is owned by the media, so shut up and watch your teevee and see what we want you to.

come on, wake up and make a place for yourself in the new world order. soon enough, america will look like baghdad, don’t you see? the people of iraq were in the way of the oil, so they are being “re settled” if you are in the way, you will be too.

one might consider asking if the private contractor armies are moving into position in our country to take over the work of the national guard and military? that would be convenient for this government for two reasons. It guts the effectiveness of our military, and prevents them from being here to assist the people of our country. It would also make it far easier to enforce martial law, wouldn’t it?

   good luck to you all, and may you abandon fantasy as a guiding force for your existence
