For me, and I’m sure many of you, one of the most painful parts is that, six years ago, we saw it coming. We knew that Dubya was a clod and a clown and would be a lousy president. Heck, back in 2000 when he was appointed, I had a feeling he’d be invading Iraq, and that he and his cronies would consider it a no-lose proposition.

Worse yet, he’s exceeded my darkest nightmares. I knew he’d be bad, but OMFG, I had no idea that he’d have so many opportunities to mess up so much so badly! I’ll be forever grateful to those who protected Social Security from that moron, and will be forever ashamed at those who could have prevented some of his other atrocities (e.g. Alito) but did not.

On the other hand - Loved the video. I knew John Barrowman had talent, but *damn*! Captain Jack, you’re a man of *many* talents!

But it wasn’t until Bob Woodward’s book “State of Denial,” came out in September that it was definitively established, to the full satisfaction of Washington’s cocktail-party circles, that the president is not to be taken seriously on Iraq.

On Iraq? Guess they’re still a little behind the curve.

Thanks, Selise. I’d been checking it out but thought they might think my thing too trivial.

can’t hurt to ask… especially if you explain your request. and if they can’t help, they may be able to direct you to someone who can/will.

good luck!

p.s. here’s the link i forgot to include..

it may be too late to for you to ever see this suggestion, but juan cole has started a nonprofit, the “Global Americana Institute, Library of Americana Translation Project”. you might give them a try. from their website:

The classics of American thought and history have been little translated into Arabic. Worse, even when they have been translated, they have appeared in small editions and fairly quickly go out of print.. Worse still, the distribution system for Arabic books is poor, and there are few public libraries, so that many books that have been published in the past are no longer available to most readers. We have therefore begun a project to translate important books by great Americans and about America into Arabic, and to subsidize their publication so that they can be bought inexpensively.

I was going to suggest emailing Prof. Cole, but that is a better idea. He’s already got lots to do.

OT with apoligies.

I work with an Iraqi who has a picture of JFK on his desk. He doesn’t speak english well enough to explain how he feels about JFK, only that he was in college 11-22-63. He’s ehlping me to learn a few phrases of Arabic and I want to do something nice for him. I want to give him a framed card of a few lines from a JFK speech that I remember as “…in the final analysis we all share the same small planet, we all breath the same air, we all cherish our children’s future, and we are all mortal”…in Arabic script with the translation below. How can I get these lines in Arabic script jpeg or tif such that I can import into MS Word. Again sorry for the OT.

You might try the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum (www.jfklibrary.org).They have an excellent staff and volunteer corps.

Excellent. Thanks so much.
