Their corporate logo is a naked mermaid. I don’t think it’s Wiccan — I think it’s a reference back to “Moby Dick” (source of the word “Starbuck”).

BTW, for those of you under 40, you have no idea how grateful you should be for Starbuck’s. Before Starbuck’s, it was very difficult to find a cup of strong (i.e. properly brewed) coffee anywhere. You could get espresso, or warm brown water. I’m sure that one reason Starbuck’s rise has been correlated with additional coffee consumption by Dunkin’ Donuts, IHOP, Denny’s, etc. is that they’re using more coffee beans per cup. Thanks to Starbuck’s.

There are all sorts of rumors about Condi being gay (the truth of which I have absolutely no idea, and I certainly don’t care — her orientation has no bearing on my despising her for her fascism-enabling and gross incompetence).

She’s gay. Gwen Ifill is her S.O. Somerby blew the whistle on this over a year ago.

Starbuck’s pays its employees (even part-timers) benefits. Which is how they manage to get ‘overqualified’ people to become baristas and build a world-class company. Starbuck’s is about as socially responsible an employer as one will find in the US.

Starbuck’s corporate philanthropy puts a great deal of money into parks and playfields. I know of one city that was able to improve and update a park used by toddlers and their families ONLY because the city received a park grant from Starbuck’s. Without the Starbuck’s grant money, the city couldn’t afford the upgrades — and the families and kids wouldn’t have the play area they need.

One of my family members was instrumental in getting that particular park built, and it’s the pride of the local community. Starbuck’s money was well spent.

Pam, whoever she is, should stop spewing malicious insults. She’s being socially irresponsible.

When Pam provides medical benefits, park enhancements, nutrition, meeting spots, and music to millions of Americans, maybe I’ll pay attention to what she says.

In the meantime, it’s FDL cuppa Bracing Honesty, plus Starbuck’s teas (blacks & herbals) for this ‘reader.’

Guilty OT blog pimp here,

Sorry to butt in, but if you’ve ever screwed Amnesty International and Greenpeace supporter David Gilmour out of a royalty by downloading some free Pink Floyd, he could use your help right now in the Wizblog J. Teabag Awards. He’s trailing by about 1000 votes.

While you’re at it, vote for star-sailor in the best of the 251-500 category. The category is 100% wingnut (as far as I can tell), but star-sailor is unique in that it is an Italian language site, and its Merican version comes via Google Translator, so it is even less comprehensible in English.

PS
Volokh Conpiracy leads Balkinization in law, Spunk Homespewer threatens Berube in education, and Kos is neck and neck with the LG Fuuckwads.

Polls close at midnight (est???).

Mrs. K8 at 49 — I do not recall them having any low acid coffee. However, they do carry Tazo tea — which you can get a cup of as well, along with some lovely pumpkin loaf. *g*

I went to a drive-thru the other day and they were out of pumpkin loaf- so the lady offered “gingerbread loaf”. OMG. Heaven. Sour cream frosting w/candied ginger on top. Nummm.

Completely OfT, hey Christy, if you ever get a chance, I was surprised the Ethics Committee didn’t appear to consider Federal Sexual Harrassment laws wrt Foley. I have to believe that there are significant Federal rules governing appropiate communication between supervisors <strike>Foley</strike> and Federal employees,<strike> Pages,</strike> as well as the conduct of <strike>Foley’s</strike> the supervisor’s supervisor <strike>Hastert, Boehner, Reynolds</strike> …, when s/he becomes aware of it.

I think, because the page program is essentially a school and the congress critters are essentially “teachers”, that they should have a mandatory reporting law…

who could object to that?
