A mighty wind gusts through the blogosphere over Eason Jordan's decision to pimp his new website by inviting Michelle Malkin to travel with him to Iraq, which looks like it's shaping up to be an episode of The Real World: Baghdad.
Greg Sargent thinks it makes Jordan look a little bit…well, wingnut whipped:
Eason, this is a very bad idea: It smacks of the worst kind of pandering to some of the ugliest elements in the blogosphere, all in search of a spike in traffic and some cheap publicity. Or maybe it's an effort to win over the righty bloggers: Remember, Malkin and her friends were the very same people who hounded you from your CNN job last year on the basis of another fake "scandal" involving some of your remarks about the troops. Now you want to fly her to Iraq?
Now, I'm personally a bit tired of folks like Malkin being treated like they're serious commenters in a legitimate debate rather than professional wingnut welfare-subsidized liars who will say anything to the lizard brains for the right price, and I agree that Jordan comes off as a bit of a co-dependent, self-promoting hack for making the gesture in the first place. But I do think Markos has a good point:
So long as they leave the Green Zone, and without security detail that puts a single US soldier in harm's way. I mean, things are so splendid and it's just like Philly and there's all those great new schools! They'll be perfectly safe, I'm sure.
It does put Michelle in a bit of a bind. The map above comes today via Kevin Drum, and it shows how Baghdad is rapidly being carved up into Shia and Sunni enclaves that are not safe for any outsider to enter. If she sticks to the Green Zone, Laura Ingraham will no doubt cut her to ribbons for "reporting from hotel balconies," right? (Malkin herself approvingly quoted the same sentiment here.) But if she decides to leave…well, what neighborhood do you think Michelle Malkin — the woman who hires security guards to protect her from pies — will venture into?
Maybe Judy Miller will lend her an outfit.

Jane!
Troops home now!
I sure hope you are safe and sound, being on the coast, you get it sooner than I do. It is downright nasty out here.
Stay the Corpse.
Mr. Bush, when you send the additional 15-30,000 targets to Iraq, this time please don’t forget to equip them with the latest rose petal- proof body armor.
Thanks.
Something’s gotta give.
Army chief seeks more forces, reserves By LOLITA C. BALDOR, Associated Press Writer
22 minutes ago
WASHINGTON – As President Bush weighs new strategies for Iraq, the Army’s top general warned Thursday that his force “will break” without thousands more active duty troops and greater use of the reserves.

I know! Have her take Ann Coulter!
They can spit nasty invectives at the insurgents together.
Leave ‘em or nuke ‘em. Are there options I am not noticing?
I want out of Iraq. I want a Palestinian homeland. There’s a couple of options.
It’s amazing how persistent some of these memes are in the traditional media. My mom hit me with that one, “they’re not reporting any of the good news, bla bla bla.” That’s nice Ma, but completely unhelpful and not newsworthy.
I’m reminded of the MASH episode when a village was bombed flat, and they tried to make amends by rebuilding the town complete with a “brand new temple that’s never even been prayed in.”
A: It doesn’t make the bad stuff not happen, and
B: Rebuildng after you’ve fucked something up should be a minimum expectation. Not news.
now I certainly wouldn’t want any harm to come to our pal Michelle, so just in case she ends up spending the night out in the desert, it would behoove her not to sleep among the shifting sands.
Laura was on teevee moaning and groaning today that it’s all the media’s fault that her hubby’s poll numbers are so low cause they ain’t reporting bout all the schools being built and people getting on with their lives…

I was kinda hoping it would be a link to some kind of camel spider horror story.
I’m hoping that maybe MM gets some sense scared into her, but what I’m picturing if insurgents start shooting at her is that after her and her escort duck for cover, her escort pale and shaken, with MM wild-eyed and gleeful, crowing, “Did you see how *desperate* they were! Man, those were some total last throes if ever I saw ‘em! They don’t stand a chance!”
OT: in yesterday’s l.a. times write-up on the H’wood Reporter lay-offs this fun fact: the magazine’s parent corp VNU was recently sold to Valcon Acquisition BV, a “consortium of six equity firms, including the Carlyle Group”.

I’d personally like to see all the wingnuts visit the Green Zone, although I’d make them walk there from the airport.
I am neither dirty nor a hippie. Nor fucking, come to think of it…
Send Hillary to the Green Zone.
If they send enough Republicans to the Green Zone, it’ll become the Yellow Zone pretty fucking quickly.
Does MM have to come back?
Eli @ 18
Remember the last wingnut parade in Baghdad–several days in the Green Zone, and then a guarded helicopter ride….
Gotta face it–these people wouldn’t report the truth if they saw it. The base irony is that they all complain about the media not being truthful, and every single one of them uses the media to say so. And, the media encourages them to do so.
Even if Malkin comes home as a hag in a bag, the wingnuttery won’t think differently.
I agree that being mugged by the reality of Baghdad outside the green zone can only make Malkin look foolish.
Dunno if Jordan intended it that way. It was my first thought on reading of the story.

I tried to link through on Drum’s site to the original Times article, but I couldn’t get it, I don’t know if it’s my browser or link rot of some kind but that is how I’d look for it.
I always remind my winger friends that they supposedly hate “do gooders” yet everytime they talk about Iraq they weepily paint the US military as some sort of peace corps.
I say why not build firehouses in poor American cities….
They don’t like hearing that.

My thoughts for the day…
This from http://riverbendblog.blogspot.com/
=======================================
It’s not about the man- presidents come and go, governments come and go. It’s the frustration of feeling like the whole country and every single Iraqi inside and outside of Iraq is at the mercy of American politics. It is the rage of feeling like a mere chess piece to be moved back and forth at will. It is the aggravation of having a government so blind and uncaring about their peoples needs that they don’t even feel like it’s necessary to go through the motions or put up an act. And it’s the deaths. The thousands of dead and dying, with Bush sitting there smirking and lying about progress and winning in a country where every single Iraqi outside of the Green Zone is losing.
Once again… The timing of all of this is impeccable- two days before congressional elections. And if you don’t see it, then I’m sorry, you’re stupid. Let’s see how many times Bush milks this as a ‘success’ in his coming speeches.
A final note. I just read somewhere that some of the families of dead American soldiers are visiting the Iraqi north to see ‘what their sons and daughters died for’. If that’s the goal of the visit, then, “Ladies and gentlemen- to your right is the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, to your left is the Dawry refinery… Each of you get this, a gift bag containing a 3 by 3 color poster of Al Sayid Muqtada Al Sadr (Long May He Live And Prosper), an Ayatollah Sistani t-shirt and a map of Iran, to scale, redrawn with the Islamic Republic of South Iraq. Also… Hey you! You- the female in the back- is that a lock of hair I see? Cover it up or stay home.”
And that is what they died for.

Laura Bush Slams Media For Ignoring Good News In Iraq
Oklahoma kiddo @ 13
Right, Laura. It couldn’t be because of your husband’s failed policies…
Our County has two free weekly papers. One progressive and the other a full thug rag designed for kindling. MM is in it every week. I must admit she burns quickly (just a footnote in the ashbucket).

The media isn’t supposed to be reporting on the *real* reality. It’s supposed to be reporting on the fake reality BushCo spoon-feeds it. I don’t know what went wrong, but I’d like some more of it.
Please be safe, Jane.
Mark Morford lays it all out neatly, the entire article is worth the read, imho. It’s pretty devastating:

LIBBY TRIAL TIMING UPDATE in case no one has yet posted, for the information of Jane and Christy, et al:
This is from a Status Report filed today by the government, as requested by the Judge on 12/11. I have yet to read the defense’s Status Report, but wanted to get this information out ASAP.
In sum: The Libby trial is set to start on time, on January 16, 2007.

Yup, punaise…
In reading the Status Report from the defense, it looks like they’re desperately seeking a Hail Mary after the buzzer, in their endless plotting of further Trial Avoidance Tactics. They’re now threatening to dig up past denied discovery requests to try to get the Judge to rule that those past denials of discovery material must now be granted because of new timelines established during the closed-door CIPA hearings [they “may file within the next two weeks” to compel this discovery (very late in the game), the defense says]. They also hope to find yet another CIPA Section 6 issue when the government turns over Jencks Act (witness information) material before the end of the month. The defense also now objects to the government introducing the entirety (rather than portions) of Libby’s grand jury testimony at trial. But they basically concede that the now-infamous “dot chart” (memory defense work-volume graphic) will not invoke any CIPA issues.

Bush: Now Gaza strip is a part of Palestine….Ah used to think it was a dance of the seven veils or sumthin…
Bush: Islamic folks make a pilgrimmage to the Mecca and they dance to the song Funky Cold Medina……
Bush: Now we need the Jews in Israel until Jesus comes back…but then if they don’t smarten up and convert, they are all toast…
Bush: Can we come up with a new name for the Iranian guy….His name is too hard to say.
Harriet Miers: You are the bestest, most coolest ever! You learn so fast;)

Michelle has been practicing a perverse Voyeurism regarding Iraq.
To wit (Wikipedia):
A practice in which an individual derives sexual pleasure from observing other people (US soldiers fighting Iraqis).
Voyeuristic practices may take a number of forms but its characteristic feature is that the voyeur does not directly interact with the pleasure-object (who, more often than not, does not know he/she (Them) is being observed), but instead, observing him/her from a (safe) distance then pretending to be a serious commentator(masturbating) during and/or after the observation.
I wonder if Michelle gets whacked (on camera), could we consider it a Snuff film, produced by Eason?
Everythingseemssoneat @ 82
That should put a stop to those wacky shenanigans and general hooliganism over there.
Michelle, for old time’s sake:
If they want to go all shock’n awe on us, MM and friends can just go to the Taco Bell in the Green Zone. Maybe Pickles can join them for a first hand report on the schools. I think they should all take a little spin around Baghdad and make sure we all get a report on the good news we so want to know.
You know, about how the car bombing has stopped, and the season of light is nigh.
Peace out.

you may well have just nailed it.
KO is in my living room now (KO) and apparently jib-jab has a new jingle out.
And back to the government’s Status Report briefly:
The parties will be following up on their Status Reports at the scheduled December 19th motions in limine hearing and conference (which will be open to the public).
Everythingseemssoneat at 83 says:
… sometime in the next few weeks he’s supposed to introduce some new slogans
Bush must be running out of slogans for his many new grand adventures. I wonder how many names he has come up with in the last 6 years for all of his new campaigns.
GrandmaJ-That’s a long list.
Oh PLEASE fly her to Iraq!
Just don’t let her anywhere near the Green Zone.
If MM sets foot outside the Green Zone, she will no doubt be wearing a super-duper extra-extra petite suit of floor length body armor (remember Kim Dozier?)…oh wait. I forgot about her personal force field of prejudice and hate — nothing harmful can penetrate that!
Thanks for the best map I’ve seen of Baghdad. I hope that Malkin will be reporting from Sadr City. Interestingly, I was looking at real estate in Baghdad in the summer of 2005, (thinking it was devalued due to “circumstances”) and it was REALLY expensive. I’ll check again now to see how prices compare, but I’ll betcha…
Maybe Malkin will get kidnapped by one of the factions…but, then they would have to release her because she’d drive them crazy like her. hmmmmmmm.
Okay. The Mansur District, which is upscale but not the most upscale, has drastically lost value. ASKING prices are about one quarter of what they were in the spring/summer of 2005. You can now purchase a 4bd/4bath/2 reception room home with all marble for only $550,000.
The only problem is…who would buy it?
http://news.independent.co.uk/…..076137.ece
A devastating attack on Mr Blair’s justification for military action by Carne Ross, Britain’s key negotiator at the UN, has been kept under wraps until now because he was threatened with being charged with breaching the Official Secrets Act.
The Government’s case for going to war in Iraq has been torn apart by the publication of previously suppressed evidence that Tony Blair lied over Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction
In the 1980s, the WAR ZONE during the Iran/Iraq War that was waged between Shia and Sunni-led factions was along their shared border, limited to a relatively narrow (although long) strip of land. Millions died.
Today, and after Bush and the neo-con Republicans invaded Iraq, ousted Saddam Hussein and de-Baathified the “new” Iraq, the WAR ZONE is all of Iraq, with the epicenter of Sunni/Shia sectarian fighting taking place in Baghdad, with untold thousands of Iraqis being butchered every month…while untold thousands of Iraqis flee with their families for their lives.
And the Iranians are eating it all up, supporting their Shia proxies in Iraq, something that was unimaginable with Saddam Hussein in power.
And the Saudis are getting ready (if they haven’t already) to jump into Iraq with both sandaled feet by supporting their Sunni proxies there by any means at hand.
Bush and the neo-con nuts put a match to a powder keg in the Middle East…and then placed our soldiers on top of this powder keg…with the warring Sunni and Shia factions throwing even more sparks at the powder keg.
When it blows, everyone will be a loser, including all the U.S. citizens who continue to blindly support everything Bush and the neo-con nuts do, both in the White House and Congress. Idiots!!!
“Now you want to fly her to Iraq?”
Yes! Yes! Yes! Please fly her to Iraq! I’ll even chip in as long as its a one way ticket.
Michelle Malkin is an articulate idiot.
