I suppose everybody's gotta have a hobby, and time no doubt weighs heavy on your hands when you're worried about what an upstanding conservative like Casino Jack might say to save himself from a new career in the prison laundry. Via Raw Story, we learn that after hanging out with his homies on Redstate, the Bugman decided he needs to blog:
In his first post, DeLay blogged that "[o]ver the course of my political life I have learned many things, one of which is that not all good ideas come from Washington, D.C."
After a guest-blogging stint at the Red State last month, DeLay realized that he "needed to become involved in the blogosphere."
"TomDelay.com is the culmination of my new found understanding," DeLay writes.
But Tom was not prepared for the phenomenon known as "open commenting," and the challenges it posed to his authoritarian personal style were…well, it appears a bit daunting. After an all-too-brief debut he shut down the blog, deleted the posts and the comments, and it will reopen on Monday, but as Jim Brady could've told him — that dog won't hunt. (Note — it is apparently now back up.)
Suburban Guerilla informs us that some enterprising soul has now erected "A tribute to the 75-minute period where Tom Delay actually received feedback from America." It does not appear that his blogospheric audience is quite as interested in his leadership as he anticipated.
I hope DeLay doesn't get discouraged by the experience after dipping his toes in the blog pond. Exit polls indicated the number one issue on people's minds during the last election was "corruption," and I think Tom DeLay is an excellent spokesman for how the conservative blogosphere really feels about this problem. Nobody will be able to articulate their true moral underpinings of the extreme right wing better than Hot Tub Tom. I wish him all the best and look forward to seeing his name filling up headlines and blogospheric column inches as the year unfolds.

I’m glad somebody saved that. The tubes of the internets are certainly populated by some “alert readers”. Thank goodness.
It’s already back up, but he apparently notified his wingnut friends who posted the first suck-up comments.
Anyone can still go add their opinion, of course. ;)
Hee, hee, hee!
75 minutes from open to close comments.
Got to be some kind of record for a new blog.
These two are my favorites:
I’m emailing that blog around. Reminds me of the Lieberman blog.HA.
SharonW @ 0
LOL! I finally make the first post and in my hurry I typo it. Too funny.
On to read your piece now, Jane. :)
Yeah, I saw that it’s back up. I also saw the post that began with
Michelle Malkin had a terrific post earlier
How can you even put the words “Michelle Malkin” and “terrific post” in the same sentence. Somewhere, a robot just exploded.
He included Little Green Facists in his blogroll, along with Malkin and all the other idiots on the right. Not that I’m surprised or anything.
That was a hoot.
It didn’t take very long for some folks to tell the Bugman just exactly what they thought of him.
It wasn’t pretty.
It was exactly what I was thinking.
Just found out that today is John Kerry’s birthday.
From tomdelay.com:
Hmm.
I’m looking forward to the in-depth legal pieces DeLay will do on what a heinous fascist Ronnie Earle is for actually doing his job and catching DeLay at scrubbing money.
Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich said Monday he will run again for president in 2008. The Associated Press reports he made the decision because his party is not aggressive enough about ending the war in Iraq.
wow … I was just over there taking a look … and Tom’s friends get to be “elite activists” !
Of course you have to apply – and while I don’t see a mention about having to pay as well, I suspect that’s hidden in there somewhere.
So Jane! can we have elite activists too!?
tomdelay.bugspot.com
So is it open to
well-justified personal attacks, er, comments now, or what?I’ve got a few moments to spare…
punaise @ 17
ROTFLMAO!
Toohoo funny. Tom DeLay a blogger. The man is in a chronic state of Flotsam. this will not be pretty, and it will seem long. Oy
Heh heh. Just shout really hard that you are clean and it’s the law enforcement guys that are corrupt and the people will believe you, right?
Not. Any. More.
What a loser.
punaise @ 17
Ah yes. ‘Tis the life of an exterminator.
Nothing is quite so sad [and yet, so funny] as his quoting Michele Malkin’s farewell to Kofi Annan:
“Like Kofi Annan knows anything about remaining true to principles? He leaves behind a feckless, corrupted, global bureaucracy incapable of policing the predators in its ranks, unwilling to stand up to evil, and useless in the struggle against terrorism–or any other global threat.
raven316 @

This is good, very good! Can’t wait to see what Tom DeLay has to say about it.
punaise @ 17
Umm, occurs to me this can be improved upon a little:

Me, too. By “see,” of course, I mean “ignore.”
PA_Lady @

Except for the “global” part, that could apply to Malkin’s hero just as well.
Cujo359 @ 27
I think we need to count both the Iraqi and Afghan “governments” as Dubya’s handiwork…so we can leave “global” in there.
Michele Malkin’s farewell to Kofi Annan:
hmmph: I didn’t even know that I liked him (but given the reverse-blessing of Michelle Malkin…)
Siun @ 16
Here’s an idea: we can call them “Americans.”
Is DeLay’s blog part of an operation testing the waters for the announcement of his candidacy for president?
Cujo359 @ 27
Or to almost any Republican.
Ed*ard Teller @ 31
God, I hope so. Black comedy has become such a moribund art form.
DeLay gets the third verse in a lyric posted at satiricalpolitical.com. The tune is – you guessed it – by Lou Reed:
Tom DeLay never once gave it away
Everybody had to pay and pay
A hustle here and a hustle there
K Street is, the place where
They say, Hey Duke, take a walk on the perp side
I said, Hey Cunningham
Take a walk on the perp side
The whole lyric is here:

Any chance of sock-puppetry at the new site?
Damnitall. Blogging has thoroughly jumped that shark.
I feel so, so, icky now, knowing that the toobz running into my house are polluted by bug juice-laden hot tub water in which that smarmy piece of criminality stewed.
Ugh. I think I’m going to barf.

Angie’s too.
Happy Birthday, Angie!
Yo Balrog, Congrats back ‘atcha on the pending arrival of Wee Balrog #4.
If I send an internet, how do I know which tubes it goes through?
Hey Dru! (my b-day brother)
Happy Birthday (((angie))) and J.K.
Dru @ 38
Happy birthday indeed! (I’m still not speaking to Kerry.)
Dear Tom DeLay,
In the words of Chuck D:
Welcome to the goddamn Terror-Dome.
Angie!!! Happy B-Day, fellow Sagittarian!! Aim high and FIRE!!
I wish to the cosmos I had seen those comments from the bug dude’s site last night, would have been a fine birthday present. My sides hurt from laughing.
What a maroon…he just went ahead and built it.
And they came. For him. With pitchforks.
Heh.

now I’m really looking forward to the next blogger ethics panel*g*

My post at TomDeLay.com:
Dear Mr. DeLay-
A thin-skinned little Caligula like yourself has no place in blogging. You should get out while there is still time. You are making a terrible mistake. Abandon hope all ye who enter here.
Sincerely,
T.Rex, Esq.
We’ll see if it clears moderation.

happy birthday, Ms. O’Plasteigh
Happy Birthday ((Angie)) (waving madly from my kitchen)
And Happy Impending Due Date, Balrog!! Are they all fire-breathers? I have but one, a perfect drama king, but would love a houseful. Four is a good number, I come from a family of that size, with 16 years between #1 (moi) and #4.
TRex – life would be awfully dull without ya!

What do we call you?
“Call me Tom.”

The Hammer is on Hardball now
Happy Birthday to all good folks celebrating

REvDeb,
Saw a license plate yesterday, RevBev12. Thought of you but bet you don’t drive a Lexus. Only in LA… or Colorado Springs, or Texas… would a minister advertise while driving a Lexus. Badly.

Well, not as such, no, but there was a tremendous cockroach surge in Galveston one year…
Somewhat on the topic of the activities of Republicans facing trial is the latest from MSNBC about Libby’s “greymail” attempt. The Judge has accepted Fitzgerald’s latest proposal on the access to classified material. The MSNBC report has:

Sorry about that Doc…
I had to go wash my hands after typing it, so I know what you mean.
Somehow I just can’t imagine Delay ever sitting down to write a blog entry. Surely it’s done by some lackey, perhaps from some notes from Delay or dictation. I have no reason other than gut feeling to believe this but if the media can have their narratives then I can have mine.
And is it Ok to say how ugly Delay is? Someone make me feel better about stooping to that level ’cause I really, really think he’s one ugly mo’.
Bugman is going to come back to talk about the blog. Ooh,. Ooh. Can’t wait!
EvilDrPuma @ 72
Ah yeah…the GOP Convention, was it?

Has the GOP ever done a convention in Galveston? I thought they preferred cities with recent histories of exploitable tragedy caused by their own negligence. I’m guessing New Orleans in ‘08.

I’d like to see him flashing it from a witness stand with Ronnie Earle tossing the questions at him.
The Bugman’s Boffo Blog has a new post up about President Carter and his new book. There were no comments when I hit submit on FITZ!
Still hasn’t shown up yet, though. Somehow you have to register on the site to have your comment post immediately.
Guess their mods aren’t up to speed on unclogging the toobz.
Mommybrain @ 93
wait for the “in-(the Big)-House” a capella version by the Bug Boys
The Republican style is so dorky and out-of-date that I can’t see Bugman picking up anyone beyond the 25 to 29% of their idiotic base which they have already. They are clever when it comes to misdeeds but not clever at entertaining people. All the sites I have on my bookmarks are entertaining in one fashion or another: funny, informative, challenging etc. He’ll just be stealing from Limbaugh’s crowd.
Mommybrain @ 93
Wordpress has been hinky for a while now. I’ve written comments quoting other comments and my additions disappeared into the ether. Don’t know what’s up, but it has been acting funny for the past week or so.
Another Colorado Anti-Gay Pastor Outed
by 365Gay.com Newscenter Staff
Posted: December 11, 2006 3:00 pm ET
(Denver, Colorado) The senior pastor of a second Colorado megachurch has resigned following a phone call to the church outing him.
The Rev. Paul Barnes of Grace Chapel in South Denver announced in a video taped message to his congregation Sunday that he was stepping down.
“1 have struggled with homosexuality since I was a 5-year-old boy,” Barnes said in the video according to the Denver Post which was allowed to view the tape.
“.. I can’t tell you the number of nights I have cried myself to sleep, begging God to take this away.”
In the video Barnes is seen sitting with his wife.
The church’s associate pastor, Dave Palmer, told the Post that the church got an anonymous call last week from a person who said he had overheard a conversation in which someone mentioned “blowing the whistle” on evangelical preachers engaged in homosexuality, including Barnes.
EvilDrPuma @ 84
Bugman wants to be a role model on the conservative blogisphere.
Doesn’t that beat all?
this is an ugly word, this. . . scam
this is not his simply wanting to maintain a public face, this is some kind of friggin’ scam – and I’m not talking about the $52 needed to join his elite activists corps either -
he’s either using it to hang on to more $ for his burgeoning legal posse or he’s washing money through it or it’s “foundation”
and btw, some of us believe Ronnie Earle is the least of this little demon’s problems – he’s got what, 3 ? 5? of his former Chief of Staff presently in jail, convicted awaiting sentence, or under indictment – oh yeah, and there’s that guy doing laundry in a prison somewhere . . .
Yea, and there are “plenty of volunteers” ready to go fight those islamofacists.

I’d settle for a roll model: the Buggy Wuggy Bagel Boy of Cell Block B

That’s weird. the less redacted version of Walton’s decision went up on Pacer last week. I fiinished reading it over the weekend.
I disagre with MSNBC’s conclsuion that this is the end of the greymail defense (though I dearly wish that were true). The judge left a whole bunch of documents still in the case that have yet to be declassified.
So either the OCA’s (original classifying agency) agree to declassify, Fitz figures out and adequate substitute, or Libby wins his greymail dismissal.
It may be a much smaller target, but it ain’t over yet which is, I assume but don’t actually know, why Fitz is consering an appeal.
That plus, Walton has signalled by his rather expansive view of relevancy as displyed in this decision that he is considering allowing testimony that potentially shifts attention away from the crimes charged and onto sexier topics like who’s got a nuclear bomb we don’t know about.
Fitz used, what looks like to me, enormous self control in charging only the perjury and obsruction charges I believe to avoid having all sorts of other issues come into play and distract the jury from the crimes. It looks like he chose to apply the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) rule. So it would be a real drag if Scooter were able to fill up the court room with lots of bright shiny objects.
To my mind, the better reason to appeal is to avoid all the bright shiny object “look! over there! A nukular bombb!” testimony.
But that’s just me reading between the redacted lines.
cbl @ 102
He wants $52 to post comments? That lets out about 98.7% of his wingnut base (to his base: if you keep voting in people determined to keep you poor, you’ll never be able to afford BugMan’s rates…).
raven @ 107
Tom just has a thing for jumpsuits. He wants to get back to his roots.

looseheadprop @ 108 -
This is the real deal, lhp – just out today, and it’s a Section 6(c) ruling, not 6(a). [See emptywheel’s recent thread “CIPA Fun” and its comments for more information on last week’s 6(c) filings and developments. Things clearly started to come to a close over the last week.]
The previous thread here has more details on today’s filings. I’ve posted the full Order at #70. AP and MSNBC have reported on it so far today, and this IS HUGE. Libby’s efforts from Day One of this indictment to get a graymail dismissal, have in fact failed, as of today.
It’s too bad most of the media have ignored the tremendous efforts that have gone into achieving this decision – starting especially intensively in late September, and not concluding until today. This is a very, very significant victory for the government – especially given that it was looking less and less likely after the 6(a) ruling you reference. But Fitzgerald and Friends managed to pull it off in the end.
It’s actually hard to absorb the full import of this CIPA ruling today. THANK YOU, Judge Walton…
I am so humbled by all of you.
Starting with Dru.

Removing comments on his blog?
That doesn’t sound like the Tom Delay who once compared himself to Jesus…
My comment got on there, I wondered if it would.
I just misspelled a few words and didn’t use many punctuation marks, asked how we get the “taint of money” out of politics. And I “Congradulated” him on his new post. (What new post? but it sounds kind and nicey-poo.)
Evil little man….
I appreciate the double-entendre in the post’s title, “Hail Fellow (Blogger), Well Met,” since it implies both the friendliness of a warm welcome to a comrade, as well as to raise the suspicion of the overly friendly fellow who may pick your pocket. Archaic both, but poignant each.
On the other hand…King Oberon, in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, greets his Queen with “Well met by moonlight proud Titania” shortly before he puts a spell on her so she falls in love with a jackass. We could only hope that Tom Delay’s success in the blogosphere is akin to Titania’s luck with her donkey. Or, better yet, that e-spell will wear off and Tom will just go away.
Balrog, congrats!
By the way, Tom D’s first blog entry is an attack on Jimmy Carter’s new book. TD makes a great deal of the book’s title, while getting it wrong.
The actual title is “Palestine: Peace not Apartheid.”
The last time I looked — and I ain’t going back — my comment had not been posted at that motherfucker’s blog.
Nice pre-face lift photo of Tom
How many drunken frat gurls has the sacro-slunked Tweety nailed on those Hardball college tours?
