1. W always doubles his bets when he’s losing.

2. W has never been made to pay for anything.

3. W believes nuking Iran is the manly thing to do.

4. With no action by Congress, the President is already authorized to commence a military draft of all males between the ages of 18 and 45, starting with those age 21 and working down to those age 18 before working upwards from age 22, year by year.

The Selective Service System has been quietly re-staffed nationwide, and has reported to W that it is ready to go on 45 days notice.

5. Iran’s culture is different from Iraq’s. They will fight back, and they will bring the fight to the Americans, in America, where it will hurt.

6. With Joe Lieberman re-elected and re-appointed to his key posts in the Senate, it will not be possible to move aggressively to impeach Cheney and/or W. He is at the fulcrum, and still believes we owe him the presidency - and he’s pissed that we don’t realize that we owe him the presidency, since he so obviously deserves it.

7. Al Gore is our best hope, but he’s waiting for us to get on our knees and beg. This may yet happen, but it will not be pretty.

I have to agree with Randi Rhodes when she says the white elephant in the room is the fact that nobody is talking about the massive military base being built in Iraq. There will be no progress as long as the Muslim world sees us as permanent occupiers who will be there until we plunder and blunder our way through their world. She also added how Lee Hamilton has been untrustworthy since he sat on the 9/11 Commission and never asked any tough questions, thus allowing Bush to use the tragedy to his political advantage. And now he’s back with more of the same.

…I think partitioning Iraq is a very bad idea and is sickeningly reminiscent of empire and imperialism, imho….

The current (90-ish year-old) configuration of Iraq is already largely the result of British Imperialist Tinkering.

exactly.

ET– so sorry about the loss of your friend.

More on the demolition of the bedouin village:

Israel’s Minister of Interior, Roni Bar-On, two days ago was invited to give answers to the Internal Affairs Committee in the Knesset, as to what solutions the government is advancing in order to solve the issue of the unrecognized Bedouin villages in the Negev, and why the government is demolishing homes while these people have no “legal” options for building homes. Bar-On claimed that everything is just fine, he is doing all he can to deal with this issue, but a criminal must be punished, and therefore all the “illegal” Bedouin homes in the Negev must be demolished. He claimed that as far as he is concerned, there are not enough demolitions in the Negev. And now he has proved that he is a man of his word – 17 homes demolished in one foul swoop.

Of the 150,000 Bedouin citizens of Israel living in the Negev, over 50% live in villages that the government as policy has left “unrecognized” , meaning that there are no options for building permits, as well as running water, electricity, roads, sewer systems and trash removal, additionally there are very minimal education and health facilities. This policy’s aim is to force the Bedouins off their ancestral lands and to concentrate the Bedouins in urban townships, regardless of their wishes or their culture. However, there are also no options for living in the concentration towns the government has built, as there are no available plots of land for homes, as in the case of the families of the Twail abu-Jarwal village. Therefore the government can “legally” demolish the homes of 80,000 members of this community, while they cannot build one “legal” home.

Why is it that most analysts and commentators put the blame on anyone but Bush.

Bush is the reason for the war in Iraq. Bush is 100 percent responsible for the mess in Afghanistan. Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove, the rubber stamp GOP or whoever enables Bush, is not responsible. And yes, ultimately the most responsible is each American voter who voted for Bush, not once, but twice.

I think they only voted once. The machines counted twice.

I have a couple more clanging around in my head but have to find the time to put them together

That Eisenhower speech is so eerily prescient.

There was a man who, ultimately, did not care about his place in history. He operated with the rest of the country under the day to day assumption that he was a bit over the hill, past his prime, not in his element any longer.

Now, history shows he understood his role and place in the machinations of the world’s powerplayers like few others. History remembers him, now, for his prescience. History will remember Bush for his absolute lack of it.

Two question come to mind as I read the aforementioned BBC article: first, what is the boiling point of water in Mars’ thin atmosphere? Next, what is the temperature at which carbon dioxide sublimates in Mars’ atmosphere? I will try to look up the answer to my first question another time.

I posted the link, then started reading. I think this is really another in a long series of “we saw gullies, there must be water” stories that go back to at least 2000. I’m not aware of any corroborating evidence of recent surface water. Here’s one of those stories:
