Good stuff, Donita! Jane W was always my favorite GoGo. I’ve got my original vinyl version of Jane’s first solo album (from 1985) playing in the background. Still sounds great!

Jacqrat @ 74

My Chow/Pitt mix saved my life when my partner of ten years died suddenly.

Bravo is always being confused as a boy doggie, my nephew named her when she first came home - so small she fit in one hand…. but he misjudged her gender and named her for his fav Cartoon Network character, “Johnny Bravo”.

Even the vet calls her “He”. But she is adorable - red chow hair and spotted tongue, big black nose and beautiful eyes. Such soft fur!

Did I mention she is adorable?

I’m sorry about your partner Jacqrat.

jeffreyw @ 72

I’m a dog person. We have a cat (17 years old) that is in and out, but our Brittanies are our babies.

Our youngest is a rescue, of sorts. A county official who had attended a fire nearby in his official capacity saw our dogs, and came back a few days later and asked if we wanted another. He said his wife would not allow two, and as the county had just bought and delivered a cadaver dog to his keep, the little Brit had to go. If I didn’t take him, he would go to the pound.

I said OK, and he left the dog with me. We took him to the vet, told the story, and the aide in the office wanted to call the law. Evidence of mistreatment, malnutrition, etc. Lab tests discovered heart worms, round worms, and anemia. Physical exam produced evidence of broken and healed ribs. He had no callouses on his paw pads, as if he had been kept caged 24/7. My wife was in tears, I was aghast.

It’s been nearly a year, now. He’s rid of parasites, has gained his weight back, his feet no longer bleed. He has all the benefits of a loving family, except he has never learned to play. I will never forgive that lousy son of a bitch that took that away from him.

We call him Jack, after Mr Cafferty.

Oh, poor baby. Way to go jeffreyw!

Millineryman at 54:

My sister has an adopted greyhound, everyone in the family loves him. Whenever I see him, I’m compelled to ask, “Alex, why the long face?”

And does Alex ever reply? They have a grace about them that draws me to them.

Jane Wiedlin’s greyhound Jordie is super sweet and gorgeous.

Thanks Donita, that’s good to know.

And even more tragic the circumstances that they’re subjected to. Great interview with Jane. Thanks for doing what you do. It’s a great way to kick off the weekend.

Slightly OT, but maybe not: I have a 10-y.o. son who has a mild form of autism. He loves music and has (to my mind, anyway) pretty discerning taste. He wants a guitar for Xmas, and I believe his mother is getting one for him. He has also started piano lessons along with his big sister, and so far is concentrating very hard at it. It motivates him, and I want to encourage him in this. Any suggestions? Any useful accessories that would make a good present along with the guitar?

Well, if it is an electric guitar he’s getting, you can get him a little amplifier simulator that can effect the guitar with distortion, or reverb, or tremelo, etc. There are portable ones that he can wear headphones with and not bother anybody. I have found those to be very inspirational. They make you sound better than you are because of the effects.
