About Firedoglake
Sorry for the delay today folks, I had a Keystone Kops day in the Toobz!
Spin!
FiniFini,
Somebody finally moved the truck parked on the toobz.
Server error message last few minutes.
Whew, I thought my toobz were tied on this server too, glad I wasnt the only one!

series of toobz
twolf1 @ 5
I needed that after the day I’ve had, thank you!
All hail Finifinito for getting The Spin up and running this week
IN AN ICE STORM WITH NO POWER!
All Hail FiniFinto!
OH crap, we’re getting a storm. I’ll be back after I get some food at the grocery.
Yay Donita!
OK, so here was my day. Go to bed at 6 am after working on a client website emergency for much needed Christmas money. Lay in bed for 2 hours flinching and not sleeping. Arise at 8 am to cat knocking over large objects in other room.
Clean up cat disaster, set about working on the podcast at 8:30am. Finish assembling and polishing at 10:30am and do final listening before uploading. While listening, winter storm passes through my neighborhood and knocks out power.
Thanks to prior arrangement made with friend due to sinking feeling that power will go out today I await the cavalry which arrives at 11:30. While giving the Indianapolis Power & Light company half an hour to restore power, pack myself for moving the studio to temporary quarters for the day to finish column. Depart at 12:15.
Arrive at 12:30 and proceed to start setting up gear and connecting to alien network at friend’s house which hates me and my system. After massive fruitless battling, my friend Rich goes to Panera Bread to use their network to upload podcast while I use his machines to finish column layout and associated housekeeping, way late.
I hate the Toobz today.
Beyond the call of duty.
Thats dedication.
Thanks FiniFini!
I appreciate it folks, but Rich is the real hero in this all, all hail Richard Ruzewski of RL Design!
Attn: Belinda Carlisle — Pebbles called, and she wants her necklace back!
HI HI! The podcast is taking forever to load. Hello sweet friday spin-sters!
Music to my ears: Cafferty gets own show on Saturdays at 1 and 3 est.
Hey Fini–how are you doing??
Jacqrat @ 13
You, Jacqrat, in particular will be glad that you tuned in.
Methinks the toobz are tied all over from storm outages. Someone parked one of the trucks on the FDL toobz earlier, must be parked over at Odeo now.
BTW Jacqrat, congratulations! You’re the contest winner for having the most creative answer to the question posed last week about the connection between Jane Wiedlin and Donita! Send us your snail mail or delivery address at our email addy at FDLSpin AT Gmail DOT com and we will get your prize package out to you!
Donita Sparks @ 15
Really? I just came by so you could call me a “PERV” again, honest.
egregious @ 14
Much better now. Thanks!
Sorry Donita, didn’t mean to spoil the surprise! BTW, you never gave us the real answer to the question posed about your connection, what was it?
FiniFiniTOOBZ! @ 16
I am staring, trout-faced at your post. This is a huge honor and surprise and very welcome at the Jacqrat household. Thank you!
FiniFiniTOOBZ! @ 18

Jacqrat, that’s soooo cool. I’m envious, but pleased I can say I met her back when…even if that was less than 24 hours ago.
I knew this comment session would not pass that phrase up! EEEEEERRRRRRRRRPPPPPP!

For rescue groups, I would like to also recommend the House Rabbit Society (http://www.rabbit.org), who I’ve been involved with for many years. I currently have the cutest foster bunny in my kitchen — he has asymmetrical stripes, four on one side, three on the other — very distinctive!

On behalf of all Mountaineers’ fans, is your formula the same as W = V x a?
Kiss and tell would never describe Donita Sparks….her lips are sealed. Great Podcast, keep up the good work!
Storm? What Storm? All I see are blue skies and blue kisses.
The sweetest “top” you’ll ever meet,

Redshift @ 28
Thanks Redshift
So….uh, if Donita’s X is Jane’s current…
and Jane is currently into “fetish”…
Hmmmmm… (pondering)
Donita?
Punaise? Got your calculator out for that one?
RBG @ 30
Watt’s that you say?
As for my spin, anyone else Rockin’ like Dokken to the live shows archived at:
http://concerts.wolfgangsvault.com/
???
I went from Tom T. Hall in 84, to Wishbone Ash in ‘77, to the Clash in ‘79, to a fine vintage ‘77 Pablo Cruise. Encroyable.
And, yes, Dokken in Milwaukee, ‘84.

badda bing…and you’ve got mail.

I’m guessing it’s somewhat different than Rove’s “the math”
happy friday to you donita & jane!
what a fabulous show!
great music & great conversation!!!
gotta love it!

Jacqrat @ 33
Your mind does run wild doesn’t it Jacqrat?
punaise @ 37
In any equation, Donita is sexy and sweet.
jeffreyw @ 27
In this vein (oops, sorry!), I have an CD titled “Folk Heroes” by a group called The Foremen which features the song “Firing the Surgeon General”. Which President Clinton had to do after she talked about this subject publicly (horrors!). The song is hysterical, although in a different sense than the public reaction to the words of the (former) Surgeon General.
punaise @
34
That was revolting.
Donita Sparks @ 39
“…..and, she scores the PERV!”
Thanks, Donita. You make my week.
punaise @ 34
Ohm, my god!
jeffreyw @ 44
Resistance is futile!
jeffreyw @ 44
Y’all better stop it or that cranky lady that doesn’t enjoy the puns will show up and bop ya.
(I KEEEED, I KEEED!)
Jacqrat @ 43
Ha! yes, you wear the crown.
Erg! Wouljouleave it alone!
Cross your fingers folks, I’m on the phone with the IPL folks to find out if power is back on at my place.
How is it that these large utilities companies that rake in millions have yet to figure out how to program ANY decent music into their hold music? I’m listening to some dreck from what must be a former American Idol or something.
A wothwhile organization here in south Louisiana (endorsed by Mrs. Cat), is SpayMart. They do a lot of good work and could use the help.
AirportCat @ 51
Thanks AirportCat. I have become a total cat lady in the last few years.
Goopers are pointing to THIS as proof that they are not ALL homsexual pedophiles:
“SEATTLE – An arrest is sending shockwaves through the halls of local political power.
Larry Corrigan has worked on a number of Republican campaigns, but now he’s in jail after he was caught in an Internet sting, accused of trying to solicit sex from young girls.
Corrigan’s orange jail uniform he was wearing in court Thursday is a far cry from the business suit he wore at the King County Prosecutor’s Office for 25 years.
Until last year, Corrigan was the Director of Operations and Budget. Now he’s suspected of attempted child rape and communicating with a minor for sex.”
Thanks for the info about Greyhounds. I’m looking into rescuing one after the new year. If I can continue to work at home, I’m going to adopt one. I can’t see adopting a dog and leaving him/her alone all day in a house.
They are beautiful animals, and great companions from what I understand.
I’ve been spinning around the radio feature on iTunes of late. Some cool things, you can listen to David Byrne’current playlist in the Eclectic section.
Good luck with the electric Fini.
OK kids, I have been assured by the Power Goddess on the phone that all is well in my hood so I am headed back to the homestead. I will now be doing my best impersonation of Bela Lugosi for the rest of the night. See ya!
thank you Fini and Donita
I heard this one over at Democracy Now! during a break and like it very much
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RmYkC4agj4
Donita Sparks @ 52
We have ten. All indoors, all rescues, all “fixed”. This is probably excessive, but it keeps the heating bills low in the winter, as long as you don’t mind sleeping under a pile of cats.
Oh Fini — so worth the wait! And so glad your power is back on!
Donita — this has just been so fabu — thanks so much for bring it to all of us at FDL. You rock, baby. One of these days when I get my butt out to the West Coast, I’m gonna come and see you in action. :)
AirportCat– 707!
I have one and cherish his snuggly warmth very much.
Love the purring too; the love bites in the early am– not so much, but at least he has stopped “making muffins” on my head!
Donita
I could listen to you for hours. I hope you enjoy making these podcasts.
I like em hearin em every friday
have a great weekend

My sister has an adopted greyhound, everyone in the family loves him. Whenever I see him, I’m compelled to ask, “Alex, why the long face?”

Thank you kindly Ms. Christy

Jane Wiedlin’s greyhound Jordie is super sweet and gorgeous.
Slightly OT, but maybe not: I have a 10-y.o. son who has a mild form of autism. He loves music and has (to my mind, anyway) pretty discerning taste. He wants a guitar for Xmas, and I believe his mother is getting one for him. He has also started piano lessons along with his big sister, and so far is concentrating very hard at it. It motivates him, and I want to encourage him in this. Any suggestions? Any useful accessories that would make a good present along with the guitar?
whippets are quite adorable, too.
AirportCat– my friend got a Play Guitar Deluxe CD ROM (TOPICS Entertainment) set from Costco (I think) and it is fabulous acc. to him.
His gitbox playing was always good, but has gotten better!
I just happened a cross a new thread upstairs
AirportCat @ 67
Well, if it is an electric guitar he’s getting, you can get him a little amplifier simulator that can effect the guitar with distortion, or reverb, or tremelo, etc. There are portable ones that he can wear headphones with and not bother anybody. I have found those to be very inspirational. They make you sound better than you are because of the effects.
Donita Sparks @ 66
Thanks Donita, that’s good to know.
And even more tragic the circumstances that they’re subjected to. Great interview with Jane. Thanks for doing what you do. It’s a great way to kick off the weekend.
I’m a dog person. We have a cat (17 years old) that is in and out, but our Brittanies are our babies.
Our youngest is a rescue, of sorts. A county official who had attended a fire nearby in his official capacity saw our dogs, and came back a few days later and asked if we wanted another. He said his wife would not allow two, and as the county had just bought and delivered a cadaver dog to his keep, the little Brit had to go. If I didn’t take him, he would go to the pound.
I said OK, and he left the dog with me. We took him to the vet, told the story, and the aide in the office wanted to call the law. Evidence of mistreatment, malnutrition, etc. Lab tests discovered heart worms, round worms, and anemia. Physical exam produced evidence of broken and healed ribs. He had no callouses on his paw pads, as if he had been kept caged 24/7. My wife was in tears, I was aghast.
It’s been nearly a year, now. He’s rid of parasites, has gained his weight back, his feet no longer bleed. He has all the benefits of a loving family, except he has never learned to play. I will never forgive that lousy son of a bitch that took that away from him.
We call him Jack, after Mr Cafferty.
jeffreyw @ 72
Oh, poor baby. Way to go jeffreyw!
My Chow/Pitt mix saved my life when my partner of ten years died suddenly.
Bravo is always being confused as a boy doggie, my nephew named her when she first came home – so small she fit in one hand…. but he misjudged her gender and named her for his fav Cartoon Network character, “Johnny Bravo”.
Even the vet calls her “He”. But she is adorable – red chow hair and spotted tongue, big black nose and beautiful eyes. Such soft fur!
Did I mention she is adorable?
jeffreyw– I just knew I liked you!
kudos to you and your wife.
Bravo, Jaqrat!
Jacqrat @ 74
I’m sorry about your partner Jacqrat.
Hi Donita! Great interview! I love Jane’s song “Gonna make you Fall”! I fancy myself a cat person, I have a black cat named 13!
Good stuff, Donita! Jane W was always my favorite GoGo. I’ve got my original vinyl version of Jane’s first solo album (from 1985) playing in the background. Still sounds great!
