Actually, the whole meta thing did not bother me. These things happen in every online community from time to time. They go in cycles. Sometimes you have to blow out the engine a bit.

They shouldn’t be regular, and there’s still a backstory about some of these people and the history of their, er, interest in this sitethat I’d rather not get into. We don’t initiate fights across the left, and we’d prefer it if others who care about movement politics would do the same.

I have and had no problem listening to the critics, and I held nothing back in my replies and responses. There’s a lot that people don’t get about what we’re doing, and there’s an old model of 90’s liberal single issue complaint politics that still has its manifestation online. It has its perspective, and sometimes its points to make, but it really has no idea how to build progressive movement politics, and so the admonitions that we’re gonna derail the movement are just silly.

But, all that said, I’m still mulling over all the commentary for my own purposes, even if I pretty much had my say throughout the thread and to a lessar extent, over at Watson’s place.

Hey Pach – what is the back-story? Now you’ve got us all interested…

dude, you’ve been piled on here pretty good and perhaps a bit unfairly, but i think you fail to grasp that it’s not about you and your feelings about women, but about others who perceive your language as hurtful.

your use of “b!tch” and worse is not offensive to me and probably most other readers, but on a public forum like this it’s impossible to know how deeply these words can cut. what if “b!tch” was the name of choice for a woman who was beaten by her husband daily and every time she hears it or reads it the memories come flooding back? is your desire to freely use this language worth the negative feelings that it can evoke in people–especially when there are so many other words that could be used to equal effect?

i’m not for censorship, but maybe a little self restraint can go a long way in certain situations. i don’t think that’s a compromise of your intellectual integrity, but being slicker with your choice of words given your audience at any given moment.

Ahh, Catharsis: the island Hera would travel to, annually, to renew her virginity. I find succulent irony in that word, juxtaposed with the rationale that the building of borders revolved around the “C” concept.

Tell me, though, if it’s not EPU’d, was any virginity actually renewed?
