There is a fun profile of Blue America winner John Hall (D-NY-19) that I thought folks might like to read. My favorite bit:
In a way, Hall's new job has simply broadened the audience for his lectures, from the Orleans crowd to the C-SPAN crowd. Not that this will change his message. Asked if he will keep sticking it to the Man now that he is the Man, Hall responds with a quick story.
"I already met a couple lobbyists from Raytheon during orientation in Washington, and I just told them what I think is wrong with their missile system. Maybe they'll write checks to my next opponent. I don't care. I got into this race because my wife told me to stop yelling at the TV."
Love it. Crooks and Liars has video of Hall on The Colbert Report, singing the National Anthem with Stephen Colbert. It is not to be missed.
For some history on Rep. Hall, take a peek at the Blue America profile that Howie did. This is one of those pat on the back moments for you guys — thanks so much for all of your hard work during the last election cycle. Well done, indeed.

Congratulations to John Hall and the intelligent folks in NY 19– his duet with Colbert brought serious grins and goosebumps to me!
I’d still like to know if John was in on the joke during his first Colbert appearance.
He looked stunned.
I met John at a Kos meetup in Tribeca. I told him I would help him defeat that creep Sue kelly. Damn I didn’t realize then he was so cool and that he would kick her ass.
Good on John. He’ll be good for the constituents and the nation. And he can sing too!
Whoa. It’s going to be a very busy week for PJF.
Christy!
Jane!
Hall!
God – I so loved “Dance with Me” as a teenager. Back in the primative days of 8track it was one of my favorite albums. Of course no one compaired to HEART! Must have played “Dreamboat Annie” a million times!
Dems Suspicious of New Lieberman Flack
Roll Call reports that a few Senate Dem spokespeople are “uneasy about [Sen. Joe] Lieberman’s new communications director, Marshall Wittmann, sitting in on their weekly press secretary meetings.” Wittman’s a former conservative activist and spokesman for Sen. John McCain.
Yet another Senate Democratic communications director, one whose boss looks a lot like a presidential candidate, said, ‘What’s more dangerous than a Republican-turned-Democrat-turned-Independent sitting in our strategy sessions? One who is a prodigious leaker. … I think our ability to speak our minds and get something done in our meetings just plummeted.’”
Ha, ha, ha! No wonder we support him, he’s just like us, yelling at the tv too.
Guess John didn’t get the memo to “shut up and sing” – thank goodness!
Well John, I will keep yelling at the television for ya!
Congratulations NY19 on a race well won!
Smear card – my opponent smokes pot.
Ha!
Yay John!
The good guy won this time.
LOVE his music.
Here’s a cool story about congressman-elect Hall which should bring smiles to this crowd. At the height of Orleans popularity (You’re the One) they were playing somewhere in the vicinity of Woodstock, where we all were then.
I had been privately developing the theory that the nation was ready for an anti-nuclear movement that was based on the development of solar and wind power. I thought that the power of music could be harnessed to jump-start the movement.
After the concert, I went backstage because I knew his guitar player, John Platania. We all talked at length about this concept, and Hall got it right away.
Cut to the chase, not long after MUSE (Musicians United for Safe Energy) was formed, and the rest is Wicki. the concerts helped catalyze a movement which stopped nuclear power in its tracks for three decades (though we weren’t able to move this country solar.)
It will be a pleasure to watch Jerry McNerney bring his fellow rookie up to speed on what renewables can and must bring to this sick nation.
The time is now, as the first signs of economic collapse hit our country. The answer is to build up industries of sustainable technology for export, which try to catch up with what Europe and Japan have been doing for some time. And for sure Hall will be right there.
I hope that the Washington Post and Dana Priest don’t refer to the acitivities in Darfur as “genocide”.
The President of Sudan says there is no genocide in Darfur.
Just like Bush says there is no civil war in Iraq.
Pathetic.

Christy,
Thanks for the new thread. That picture of Bush looking all Ted Bundy was getting to me.

We’re still havin fun & he’s still the one!
President Clusterfuck just got a very nice 31% JAR from Harris- Merry Christmas Clusterfuck!!
Hall is very pro-education. I like that very much.
rwcole @ 18
Here’s an even better present: there’s still plenty of time for that to drop further before Christmas!
Actually, I’m all in favor of making this a Hannukah observance: let’s see if Bush’s JARs can drop one point a day for eight days.
where’s Daryl Oates?
Via TPM: Democrats win control of Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
They broke off their friendship after he supported the attack on Iraq.
They called him Warrin’ Oates.

What is Hall’s position on Iraq and the Middle East in general? I have to confess ignorance here.
Guy got a little sexually expressive- now he’s :
Soin Oates
really Rahm, thanks so much, I sit here still “represented” by TRMPAC Monkeyboy John Carter
and am so very envious of the good folks of the Fightin’ 19th ! Go Congressman Hall !!!

don’t overlook the comments
John Kerry least likable human running for president–Bill Frist takes number two.
rwcole @ 28
Frist? Human?
My New Years wish: I want out of Iraq. I want a Palestinian homeland. I want Hillary out of contention. I might as well wish for the moon.
Puma- well very low standards–in which the product of two humans is automatically qualified- as a legacy human.
rwcole @ 31
And what happens with the product of two legacy humans? Just trying to figure out how Dubya got into Yale.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 29
Until that last sentence, I was wondering if you were still part of the reality-based community ;)
The product of two legacy humans is ALWAYS a human- unless it successfully interbreeds with a snake!
Maybe reaching out to evangelicals is not such a workable idea after all…
Have some fun- hand out condoms emblazened with purple crosses after services at yer local neighborhood mega church11
Sponsor and Easter event where the little junior evangelicals find condoms hidden in plastic eggs!

thanks for the Fitz fix. It will be a busy week, a couple days ago he filed a notice that he is taking an appeal from one of Walton’s sealed orders. Plus in another order Walton told him to go back tot he drawing board on the CIPA substitutions.
So, he’s got all those big huge projects, plus prepping for the trial and, oh yeah running one of the largest US Attorney’s Offices in the country in the middle of a series of very high octane public corruption prosecutions and related spin off investigations.
I wonder if he ever sleeps at all any more
Good luck to Mr. Hall. I hope he can do some good things. Seems to have the right priorities.

They didn’t poll cats apparently.
-GSD
Cats don’t regard the term “human” as a great compliment.
rwcole @ 40
Until they get hungry, then they can at least tolerate us.
Clusterfuck says that the war in Iraq is against Al Queda and that they are stirrin up all the trouble..
President of I-ran says that Clusterfuck’s behind all the trouble…
Score duece!
And on the other side of the Capitol, on the other side of the aisle, Elizabeth Dole is sending out fundraising emails:
Heads held high and hands held out . . .
Sounds like the Dems – especially the progressives of Blue America – pushed the GOP to spend beyond their means to defend the indefensible. Good job, John, and good luck to you in DC!
Clusterfuck refuses to meet in Iraq–the only person in his administration too fuckin chicken shit to go into the country on any mission but midnight turkey.
Heads held high- but peckers droopin- goopers march into the twenty first century.
Heads held high as they march to jail.
Lotsa goopers sayin “I don’t know what it is- but I just cain’t get it up for the president any more”.
Peterr @ 43
I read somewhere that Bush gave the party $12m of his campaign funds (that was to go to his library), and apparently they’re still in debt.
People who are stupid or deranged enough to give money to the GW Clusterfuck library and think tank should be required to go public with the information- and ya oughta be able ta find out if one of em lives in yer neighborhood- I mean we got CHILDREN livin here!
“Well a comonna baby- whole lotta thinkin goin on now–”
punaise @ 21 – wrong Hall, I think you have this Orleans front man mixed up with Darryl Hall of Hall & Oates

Although the US government and Iraqi authorities have been insisting that the sky is red for months, NBC after much deliberation has decided to call the sky blue. Other news outlets have not come to the same conclusion yet.
When the Washington Post was asked why they are still calling the sky red, they said they knew the sky was blue but they didn’t feel comfortable calling it blue when Iraqi government officials were still calling it red.
Tony Snow vociferously objected to NBC’s biased coverage of the sky. He said calling the sky blue would only encourage it to be more blue. Snow added that if NBC persists in calling the sky blue, the terrorists would win.

Yeah for us. There is no doubt that John Hall is a better singer than John Ashcroft. When music gets better, it lifts everyone’s spirits.
I live in John’s district, and am pleased as punch that he won! Thanks to all who helped him do it!!! YAY!
I remember Mr. Hall from the MUSE / No Nukes album. He was good on Colbert too. Looks like a good rep too. Very pleased.
Here’s some clips from John Hall’s campaign I shot and put on YouTube. It was great to see in person.
