Impeachin the bad news bears?

Well there are two issues..

One- should some dems attempt a doomed and token effort to raise the issue of impeachment knowing full well that it’s goin no where?

Two-should dems begin investigations into areas that could very well lead to the discovery of improprieties that even goopers would have to regard as impeachable.

No. And Yes. In that order.

Impeachment is first and foremost a political act, and the available evidence (Nixon and Clinton) shows that the electorate views it so. Starting in office saying they’re going to impeach the Two Stooges is repeating the Gingrich mistake.

If, on the other hand, carefully conducted oversight hearing bring forward compelling evidence of high crimes and misdemeanors on the part of BushCo, then impeachment grows organically from the findings. The analogy then becomes Nixon rather than Clinton. And BushCo will be gone.

BAGHDAD (AP) — A mortar attack ignited a huge fire Monday night at an oil facility in northern Iraq, shutting the flow of crude oil to a major refinery, and a U.S. Air Force jet with one pilot aboard crashed in Anbar province, a hotbed of the Sunni-Arab insurgency, officials said. Al-Jazeera reported that the pilot was killed.
As Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki prepared for a summit meeting with President Bush this week in Jordan, Britain said it expects to withdraw thousands of its 7,000 military personnel from Iraq by the end of next year, and Poland and Italy announced the impending withdrawal of their remaining troops.

Iraqi President Jalal Talabani arrived for an official visit in Iran, where he is expected to seek its help in preventing Iraq’s sectarian violence from sliding into an all-out civil war. His departure was delayed by a three-day curfew, which the government lifted Monday.

How about a serious discussion on the merits of impeaching both Bush and Cheney? I know there is a strong and emotional faction that would like to see both in prison, but a discussion on the pros and cons might go a long way towards setting a positive direction for this country with the new congress. I personally see very little downside to throwing both of them to the wolves. The process would bring out the facts and perhaps heal this conutry as well as start to rebuild our world wide credability. Impeachment is the legacy Bush deserves. Raise the 500 million and then use it to fund a think tank to spread peace not to develop plans on how to wage wars.

Need ’super majority’ to impeach. I think.

Sectarian conflict takes reconciliation. A civil war takes peace talks. Sectarian conflict is a security issue. A civil war is a political one. If our presence in Iraq either was unable to prevent civil war or pushed the country into it, this merely raises again the question of why we are there at all. If a large technically advanced American force in Iraq can not change the course of events there, it has no reason to be there, period.
