Bush busted budgets not only with tax cuts for Paris Hilton, but also with massive corporate welfare, like this. Dems are at least a little less generous when it comes to giving away the Treasury to the have-mores. Tell that to the next right-wing whiner who pollutes your earspace.

Has nobody noticed that in 2011 the first of the baby boomers turns 65? And the generation that’s had it all is not going to be happy when they find that a major portion of their retirement income is going to insurance companies, drugt manufacturers, hospitals, physicians and laboratory testers.

If I were a politician running for office in 2008, I’d be playing that health care card big time to that 55 to 62 year old voter.

It’s hard to be a conservative when title 19 is staring you in the face and they’re telling you to get rif of everything you workerd for your whole life.

And where’s the money going to come from to finance what we need to do? Well we4 could get the hell out of Iraq for starters.

Margot, not to worry!! You do have some very valid points. I’m going to guess you were part of the nursing staff. The nursing staffs don’t get nearly enough credit for what they do and they really aren’t paid enough.

I technically work for the State and compared to my last place of employment, it was a step up in the world. At the previous place, I would have said the same things you did in your previous post. Those that work ‘in the trenches’ end up on the short end of the stick.

I work in pharma R&D and I have a deal for you: If you guys consider tort reform so the most egregious, extortionist class action lawsuits don’t happen anymore (for example, the phen-fen disaster where the company was forced to pay out $18 billion dollars to people who claimed they were injured but where the company couldn’t audit the claim) then I think we should negotiate on prescription drugs.
Think about it. $18,000,000,000.00 going unexamined into the pockets of lawyers and your neighbors who jumped on the bandwagon but were never injured. WHAT could we POSSIBLY do with $18,000,000,000.00? Hmmmmm, I wonder…

The US did great with largely public-financed biomed research until Reagan – at the behest of pig pharma – drastically cut the funding.

I’ve seen pig pharma’s drug trails close up. Academic basic scientists elucidate the fundamental mechanism – industry follows.

Your role is easily conducted by the public sector – for less money.

Your industry also spends billions to influence physician prescribing in the direction of greater profits, not patient health.

All those private sector expedintures – and the dividends – take money out of public health.

We don’t need pig pharma – pig pharma needs us to host the parasitic stockholders. Their obscene profits are sucked directly from the public purse. Ending that theft will end the obscene profits – hence the three propaganda pieces in the MSM.

Time to end pig pharma’s addiction to stealing everything that isn’t nailed down. We’ll start with Medicare D, then withdraw the extensions to patents, then eliminate the subsidies and tax credits for useless “me-too” copies of existing drugs.

Oh yeah – the misleading TV drug ads? Bad news for the bouncing sphere – you’re out of work. A real FTC will throw your ass off the tube so fast you’ll be an oblong.

Hope the pig pharma stocks keep tanking – brings a smile to my face just seeing the numbers.

Academic medicine knows where pig pharma has stashed hundreds of billions of public health dollars over the last twenty years. And we’re taking pig pharma to the OR – the bariatric budget surgeons have big plans for you.

Jane, in your previous post you suggestedd the Wurlitzer was down. But doesn’t this phrase in the post above, “nearly identical stories in the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, and the LA Times” suggest at least that somebody (Rove?) is pumping furiously on the pedals and banging on the keys, trying to get the Wurlitzer to play the Republican tune?

I’d say from the way the articles are written that it’s a lobbying effort by big PHARMA. There are a lot of strings to pull when you throw around that much money and cocktail weenies. Enough to buy a few section-A articles.

Many US manufactures moved some or all operations to Puerto Rico. Huge tax incentives, lower wages etc. The FDA has jurisdiction there

Bush has eviscerated the FDA just like he’s eviscerated the EPA. They may nominally “have jurisdiction,” but, as a practical matter, they have largely been neutered.

I’ve been out of it directly since late 1999 but the oversight is/was unbelievable. Site inpections, process validations, cleaning validations and on and on. And if you mfg anything with a narcoctic in it, you have the DEA to deal with too.
