I can't stop listening to this song.
Everybody sing!!
You Know My Name
If you take a life do you know what you'll give?
Odds are, you won't like what it is
When the storm arrives, would you be seen with me?
By the merciless eyes of deceit?
I've seen angels fall from blinding heights
But you yourself are nothing so divine
Just next in line
Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you willing to die?
The coldest blood runs through my veins
You know my name
If you come inside things will not be the same
When you return to the night
And if you think you've won
You never saw me change
The game that we all been playing
I've seen diamonds cut through harder men
Than you yourself
But if you must pretend
You may meet your end
Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you willing to die?
The coldest blood runs through my veins
Try to hide your hand
Forget how to feel
Forget how to feel
Life is gone with just a spin of the wheel
Spin of the wheel
Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you willing to die?
The coldest blood runs through my veins
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name

They lied their way into Iraq. Now they are trying to lie their way out
Bush and Blair will blame anyone but themselves for the consequences of their disastrous war – even its victims

TeddySanFran!
go west coasters!
wish I were with you in SF: I’ve been captive here in Burbank since 12:30.
the plane is coming any hour now. uh-huh.
Chris Cornell rules.
Hey TRex, I’ve been catching up with Randall Bramblett’s recent stuff. Are you a fan? (Sorry, I just assume every Athenian is.)
kirk murphy @
5
Oh, Kirk- I’ve been on one of those “flights” outta Burbank too. You are probably too young to remember the days of PSA- a casualty of “airline” deregulation. BTW, are you based in SF?
If you don’t get help at Charter, get help somewhere.
Thanks, TRex. You pulled my bacon out of the fire once again.
Would someone sing that song to all the chickenhawk pundits who pushed this Iraq War in the first place?
“Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can’t deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you willing to die?”
Yep, are they willing to die for the war that they started? No… They just want to send our young kids to do that! : (
Oh, and btw, this is my very first comment here… Hi, everyone! : )
hi atdnext!
Soundgarden…
hi atdnext – welcome to the lake! i’m glad you jumped in.
and valley girl -
i am indeed based in SF – home to the airport that shuts down 1/2 the runways in the rain. SF being such a dry climate, no problem (cough)
i do remember the PSA days – and even flew them. liked the big smile painted on the nose cone. :)
angie @ 11
Hello, angie! : )
Thanks for the warm welcome.
FDL Left Coasters Unite!!!!!
welcome, atdnext
kirk murphy @ 13
Thanks, kirk! So far, the lake seems pretty nice.
Oh, and does SFO really shut down half its runways anytime there’s rain? If that’s the case, then my friend who’s flying back there will be in for a long and nasty wait.
kirk murphy @

I’m sure the hot pants the flight attendants wore had nothing to do with it…
dr nobody @

sure, but what’s with the John Waters slimline mustache?
Mary McCurnin @ 15
Absolutely! Oh, but do I count? I’m from Orange County, albeit the one “blue” part.
“Oh, and does SFO really shut down half its runways anytime there’s rain? If that’s the case, then my friend who’s flying back there will be in for a long and nasty wait.” (sorry screwed up the block quote)
Yeah, the parallel runways are too close together for simultaneous instrument approaches , so they can use both in good weather but only one in bad. Of course the airlines schedule assuming they can use both. SFO is famous for horrible delays in the winter when it rains.
petedownunder @

I can remember when I could wear hot pants. Long ago.
atdnext @ 20
Absolutely!
punaise @ 16
Thanks, punaise. I’m feeling much cozier now with all these warm welcomes. ; )
atdnext @ 20
I left my heart in Newport Beach…
I had so many cool progressive friends there. (though mostly from the East Coast.)
LOL!
punaise- and other kitty fans- OT, but a bit of light relief to counter all things dismal- I found this YouTube while looking for lecture material. Sent it to TRex earlier. punaise- watch it! xxxooo

Oh, don’t we both wish we could get away with one.
On a happy note, the Anna’s hummingbird who visited last Sunday appeared again today: once to scope out, a second time to get very close to the feeder (startled by movement right inside the window!) and a third time to FEED. If this Anna’s (whose name is George, since we were phoning George a HAPPY BIRTHDAY in Portland when hummer FED) isn’t migrating, we may have successfully adopted him. They’ll imprint unless they are migrating.
The range of the Anna’s has changed in the 21st century from Mexico&Arizona-to-BayArea to BayArea-to-Alaska according to this.
Warming, schwarming…
petedownunder @ 21
Oh, crap! I guess that means my friend may be stuck at John Wayne Airport (OC) for a while.
atdnext @ 30
I have a friend who calls it the John Wayne Gassie Airport.
I just drove by the U.S. Capitol Building and realized, we won! It’s ours now!
Bwahahahahaha
montag, I left in 1988.

angie @ 25
Well, believe it or not, there are quite a few of us (450,000, to be more exact) good Dems “behind the Orange Curtain”…
We now have precinct captains in Newport!
Yes, there are still cool progressives there! ; )
Hey atdnext, welcome!
Mary McCurnin @ 31
Hehe… I like that. ; )
angie @ 33
Ah, my memories of it predate yours. A guy I knew from the army, along with a friend of his, ran an apartment hotel for women and a soyburger joint on the beach, just behind the city parking lot at the beach, but long before that. 1970.

Contracting “Clean Break” Chaos in Iraq
Sunday November 26th 2006, 3:30 pm
Dick Fojut’s Are 70,000 Pentagon Mercs Killing Iraqis? (Is Grass Green?) is compelling enough to include here in total. But first, here’s the trailer from Shadow Company, a documentary concerning “contractors,” i.e., hired guns, in Iraq.
COULD (SOME OF) THE PENTAGON’S HIRED MERCENARIES BE REMOTELY DETONATING CAR BOMBS AND ASSASSINATING SUNNIS AND SHIAS – TO
PROVOKE A U.S./ISRAELI PLANNED CIVIL WAR THAT WILL DISMEMBER IRAQ?
—————-
SHADOW COMPANY (about a former “security contractor’s” book)…Excerpt only…
According to Robert Young Pelton’s upcoming book Licensed To Kill: Hired Guns in the War on Terror, there are now over 70,000 armed men working as security contractors in Iraq.

We used to cut school and spend the day on the river. And we wouldn’t see another soul on that river the whole day. And the old Fair Oaks bridge was the only way across the river. No Watt Ave. bridge. You live on what used to be grape vineyards. We all did. One of my buddies and my first girl friend lived on Ambassador Dr. Too much.

angie @ 115
Sorta like Dubya any day of the week…. :)
I think the Dems should ask the Bush people who want to Go Big or Go long to put their jobs on the line. If the 3 months of more troops doesn’t stabilize the region, Bush and Cheney and those who advocated this war and this option will RESIGN! Not only would we be able to get out of Iraq but we could get them out…..
Start this new tactic. Have them advocate a position of insanity and then call their bluff. If they think it is such a good idea and option, then let them bet their jobs on the outcome. A benchmark for Bush.
This is a Bush impersonator guy. My hubby and I watch this when we need a good laugh.

It seems that his message is that there are some positive things that can be done, even if all problems cannot be solved in a short space of time, and I agree with that. That’s the way politics works.
The notion of “providing security to expand opportunity” has merit. The kid who spends his entire growing years in a crappy school with not enough to eat isn’t going to fulfill potential. That’s an opportunity lost to not only the individual, but to society at large.

OT: Let the War on Peace begin.
Three points:
1. If, upon viewing a peace symbol, your first reflex is to assume that the person displaying it is insulting your brave fighting children, perhaps you have some unresolved issues that a trained counselor could help you with.
2. If, upon viewing a peace symbol, your first reflex is to assume that it is the mark of the devil, fuck off and get a clue.
3. I’m sure Bill O’Reilly will either ignore this incident or find some way to mutate it so it isn’t an example of his looney-tune war on Christmas, even though it comes closer to being that than anything else Loofah Boy will ever hear about.

If we coalesce behind Florice in ‘08, and we run campaign appealing to all the blue collar folks and Reagan Dems there, we might have a fighting chance!
Now as for “Surfin’ Dana” in the 46th, Rohrabacher the War-backer didn’t do all that hot in the LA County part of the district… I believe he only won by 10 or 11 points there…
But he walloped Jim Brandt in the OC part of the distrct, especially Huntington and Costa Mesa. Now if we can narrow the gap some more in the OC part of the district, while swinging more of the DTS voters in Palos Verdes, and maintain the strong support in the little chunk of Long Beach in the district, we can win there.

Ah, but Leperman will try to block it with a stiff poll and may just limpet through.
The scales of Justice await. It will soon be in Cod’s hands.

Assuming he has not already drowned in teh drink.
I bet he won’t fish for anymore compliments.
Slick Silvio Berlusconi collpases in Italy. Looks like it might have been under the weight of all that make-up and hair dye.

You’ve been listening to Benny Hill. He always bates his breath while fishing for compliments….
Sockeye to him (Bush).
Wonder if he will attend the funeral of the fallen policeman who died defending his motorcade? Ha!

Well, then that doesn’t sound like a “minor heart problem” to me…
How can someone live without one?

Undeath.

Unlife to live.
Cheney won’t tell, but I bet it has to do with the dark side..uh, private (torture) donors.

I think we have gone from cold blooded to blood suckers: plus ca meme chause.
OT: The MSM’s Election Day circle-jerk is hot off the presses.
Yyyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnn.
When the time comes could we build a special branch of the Hague in the lower ninth ward of New Orleans? Open for public viewing of course.
All of Bushco should be forced to live in the lower ninth without aid and comfort.
Without leevees.
Without fresh water.
Without hope.
It’s been a tun’a fun tonite pups, but I gotta go. Hope everyone had a great weekend!
montaq — OMFG. My face hurts from laughing, scrolling through this thread, and then you throw in Nosferatu.
BWA-HAHAHAHAHAH!!!
Good God, my ribs hurt.

Bye, bg! : )

Yo! Etouffe et Nuremberg. :)
Mary McCurnin @ 224
That would be so appropriate, considering all the pain and suffering they caused for those poor folks in NOLA… It was bad enough the Katrina hit them lasy year, but it’s worse b/c Bushco neglected them when they needed help the most.
Rayne @ 222
Good for you… exercises those tickle ribs. :)
I just watched NOW on PBS (via tivo) New Orleans second school opened and students have no (zero) text books, no pencils etc. wtf!
Eureka Springs, AR @ 228
Sounds like a job for *cough* Laura *cough* Bush! And her “they seem to be doing very well here” mother-in-law….
Yea, write a check now!
Eureka Springs, AR @ 230
Think of what Monty Python could do with her… “I’m a librarian and I’m okay, I pee all night and I whine all day….”
New Orleanians now consider themselves a Carribean city. They don’t feel like Americans since they are not treated like Americans.
I have been back twice since Katrina (my parents, brother and sister live there) and people are under a constant stress that I have never witnessed before. Can you imagine how those children feel finally getting back to school but still can’t be taught properly?
I lay ALL of the responsibility at the feet of Bush. I cannot imagine any other president doing so little for so many.
Eureka Springs, AR @ 232
And yet the AP ran the following yesterday(written by Deb Riechmann, whose name is, coincidentally, pronounced “Monica Lewinsky” if you say it with Bush’s fake Texas accent).
I suspect that the main reason Bush hasn’t actually gotten off his ass and done anything is that it would impede his ability to periodically “renew his commitment” when the approvals sink.
Mary McCurnin @ 232
Bush has even topped Coolidge’s response to the flood of `27.
But, when your only friends are people who want to make billions turning the city into a jazz theme park for people who only know John Philip Souza???
Reminds me of a show I will see in one week…)
Dave Brubeck Quartet/Ramsey Lewis Trio. yesss

Sounds great. Only person missing in that is Paul Desmond.

AP – Sunday 10:42pm
Disney announced plans to purchase the City of New Orleans as soon as the Republicans complete the removal of all soul and culture from the metro area.
Eureka Springs, AR @ 238
This will likely take some time, perhaps into the next decade, as Republicans are having an extremely difficult time identifying and recognizing soul and culture.
montag @ 240
I had tickets to see Ramsey Lewis that were cancelled due to 9-11-01. Just glad this many of the originals are still kicking and he made it back. One of my favorite old albums is signed by Ramsey Lewis, he asks the buyer of the record to go back to Arkansas and tell Gov. Faubus to go straight to hell!
I’m going to hit the hay, finally tuckered out after laughing so much.
You folks who aren’t as tuckered should head upstairs, TRex is waiting.
g’nite Rayne, sleep well.
THanks so much for this comment. I hhope the story doesn’t get buried as “conspiracy theory”. Fisk documented it some months ago.
Not to mention the Occupation forces who were present just before the Golden Mosque (?) was blown up.
War crimes r’ us.
Of course, the Maryknoll sisters already know that.
