I can't stop listening to this song.
Everybody sing!!
You Know My Name
If you take a life do you know what you'll give?
Odds are, you won't like what it is
When the storm arrives, would you be seen with me?
By the merciless eyes of deceit?
I've seen angels fall from blinding heights
But you yourself are nothing so divine
Just next in line
Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you willing to die?
The coldest blood runs through my veins
You know my name
If you come inside things will not be the same
When you return to the night
And if you think you've won
You never saw me change
The game that we all been playing
I've seen diamonds cut through harder men
Than you yourself
But if you must pretend
You may meet your end
Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you willing to die?
The coldest blood runs through my veins
Try to hide your hand
Forget how to feel
Forget how to feel
Life is gone with just a spin of the wheel
Spin of the wheel
Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you willing to die?
The coldest blood runs through my veins
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name

TeddySanFran!
go west coasters!
wish I were with you in SF: I’ve been captive here in Burbank since 12:30.
the plane is coming any hour now. uh-huh.
Chris Cornell rules.
Hey TRex, I’ve been catching up with Randall Bramblett’s recent stuff. Are you a fan? (Sorry, I just assume every Athenian is.)
kirk murphy @
5
Oh, Kirk- I’ve been on one of those “flights” outta Burbank too. You are probably too young to remember the days of PSA- a casualty of “airline” deregulation. BTW, are you based in SF?
If you don’t get help at Charter, get help somewhere.
Thanks, TRex. You pulled my bacon out of the fire once again.
Would someone sing that song to all the chickenhawk pundits who pushed this Iraq War in the first place?
“Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can’t deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you willing to die?”
Yep, are they willing to die for the war that they started? No… They just want to send our young kids to do that! : (
Oh, and btw, this is my very first comment here… Hi, everyone! : )
hi atdnext!
Soundgarden…
hi atdnext - welcome to the lake! i’m glad you jumped in.
and valley girl -
i am indeed based in SF - home to the airport that shuts down 1/2 the runways in the rain. SF being such a dry climate, no problem (cough)
i do remember the PSA days - and even flew them. liked the big smile painted on the nose cone. :)
angie @ 11
Hello, angie! : )
Thanks for the warm welcome.
FDL Left Coasters Unite!!!!!
welcome, atdnext
kirk murphy @ 13
Thanks, kirk! So far, the lake seems pretty nice.
Oh, and does SFO really shut down half its runways anytime there’s rain? If that’s the case, then my friend who’s flying back there will be in for a long and nasty wait.
kirk murphy @
13
I’m sure the hot pants the flight attendants wore had nothing to do with it…
dr nobody @

sure, but what’s with the John Waters slimline mustache?
Mary McCurnin @ 15
Absolutely! Oh, but do I count? I’m from Orange County, albeit the one “blue” part.
“Oh, and does SFO really shut down half its runways anytime there’s rain? If that’s the case, then my friend who’s flying back there will be in for a long and nasty wait.” (sorry screwed up the block quote)
Yeah, the parallel runways are too close together for simultaneous instrument approaches , so they can use both in good weather but only one in bad. Of course the airlines schedule assuming they can use both. SFO is famous for horrible delays in the winter when it rains.

I can remember when I could wear hot pants. Long ago.
atdnext @ 20
Absolutely!
punaise @ 16
Thanks, punaise. I’m feeling much cozier now with all these warm welcomes. ; )
atdnext @ 20
I left my heart in Newport Beach…
I had so many cool progressive friends there. (though mostly from the East Coast.)
LOL!
punaise- and other kitty fans- OT, but a bit of light relief to counter all things dismal- I found this YouTube while looking for lecture material. Sent it to TRex earlier. punaise- watch it! xxxooo

Oh, don’t we both wish we could get away with one.
On a happy note, the Anna’s hummingbird who visited last Sunday appeared again today: once to scope out, a second time to get very close to the feeder (startled by movement right inside the window!) and a third time to FEED. If this Anna’s (whose name is George, since we were phoning George a HAPPY BIRTHDAY in Portland when hummer FED) isn’t migrating, we may have successfully adopted him. They’ll imprint unless they are migrating.
The range of the Anna’s has changed in the 21st century from Mexico&Arizona-to-BayArea to BayArea-to-Alaska according to this.
Warming, schwarming…
petedownunder @ 21
Oh, crap! I guess that means my friend may be stuck at John Wayne Airport (OC) for a while.
atdnext @ 30
I have a friend who calls it the John Wayne Gassie Airport.
I just drove by the U.S. Capitol Building and realized, we won! It’s ours now!
Bwahahahahaha
montag, I left in 1988.
(I think.)
angie @ 25
Well, believe it or not, there are quite a few of us (450,000, to be more exact) good Dems “behind the Orange Curtain”…
We now have precinct captains in Newport!
Yes, there are still cool progressives there! ; )
Hey atdnext, welcome!
Mary McCurnin @ 31
Hehe… I like that. ; )
angie @ 33
Ah, my memories of it predate yours. A guy I knew from the army, along with a friend of his, ran an apartment hotel for women and a soyburger joint on the beach, just behind the city parking lot at the beach, but long before that. 1970.
Valley Girl @

such poise…even when s/he tumbles off the treadmill, s/he has that “I meant to do that” look.
SF…the parallel universes are too close together…
egregious @ 35
Thanks, egregious! : )
punaise @ 39
Resulting in the universal bump and grind….
montag @ 41
ROTFLMAO!
montag @ 37
It’s too bad they don’t have that soyburger joint anymore… But hey, at least there’s still Charlie’s Chili by Newport Pier. ; )
angie @ 42
Ah, well, what can I say… punaise is my universal muse. :)
angie @ 42
Please give me a hint. What does ROTFLMAO! mean?
Mary McCurnin @ 45
Rolling On The Floor, Laughing My Ass Off…. :)
hee-hee! that’s why sf is so libidinous - and i thought folks were just trying to stay warm!
God, you people make me so happy!!!!!!
Mary McCurnin @ 45
I believe it’s “rolling on the floor, laughing my ass off”…
Which is what I was just doing after reading that! LOL ; )
Mary McCurnin @ 48
The right wing is, collectively, not much fun. They aren’t into punsive introspection…. :)
Mary McCurnin @ 48
Yep, same here! I don’t think I’ve had this much fun in the blogosphere in quite a while.
punaise- thanks for watching November. This has to be my favorite YouTube so far. I just keep watching it when ever I need a smile. What’s the music/ soundtrack “You’re the best” from? You know those sort of things.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peLD2vlxRM0
montag @ 50
Oh my god, do I know what you mean. I live in Rancho Cordova, the conservative part of Sacramento county.
These people don’t know how to have fun!!!!!!
atdnext,

I remember cruising E street in Anahiem in Orange County as a young man. Wild times.
Moqtada al-Sadr is a touch son of a bitch.
Valley Girl @ 52
the googles say it’s by a certain Joe Esposito, from the Karate Kid soundtrack
Valley Girl @ 52
Karate Kid
Mary McCurnin @ 53
That sounds like Pom-boing-ing-ing-ing country.
I meant a tough son of a bitch.
Not too much of a suprise, Coz. Revenge for murders (thousands upon thousands) will beget it’s special brand of inhumanity as usual. I am just so sad and ashamed that we made this happen.
Anyone hear from al- Sistani lately?
It is Dan Lungren country. A slimy son of a bitch.
Mary McCurnin @ 53
Couldn’t let this pass. I used to live on Malaga Way. 1st. graduating class out of Mills and Cordova High. Went to A.R., Sac City, Sac State and Chico State before grad school in Fla. My mother bought the fifth house built in Rancho in 1954. Small world.
Mary McCurnin @ 63
Oh, well, then, it’s almost a compliment that you’re not represented by Pombo. :)
By comparison, of course. :) There’s slimy, and, then, there’s spawn of the devil.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 64
Small, small world. I live on Ambassador Drive right on the American River. It is the only way I can stay here.
The dogs love the walks along the river and we see tons of birds and critters.
Margot @ 54
Let’s see… The New Yorker (I can hardly wait to open up and read the Sy Hersh article on Iran), The Economist, The Nation, Umberto Eco (great postmodernist!), Toni Morrison…
And, of course, blogs like FDL, DKos, and The Liberal OC (our local blog)…
And when I’m feeling really frisky, I’ll read the right wing stuff (mostly local, occasionally Freeperland)
I live in Rancho Cordova, the conservative part of Sacramento county.
what’s the town up in that area where you can taxi your private airplane right to your home’s garage?

It’s a gateway to joy and caring. Takes up lotsa time if you let it, the ‘lake, but always time well-invested.
punaise- thanks for the link. Scarecrow, yep, punaise sez so. I do love this YouTube- such a great combo of kitty and sound track. coz- watch!

It’s the only thing that works in that country. The more things change, the more they stay the same, and all that. Security trumps democracy
Cozumel @ 72
I won’t want him as my boyfriend.
I mean “wouldn’t want him as my boyfriend”.
montag @ 65
Yes, like Dana Rohrabacher… He actually boasts that “Abramoff is my best friend… Yeah, I ate for free at Signatures… We did favors for each other!” Now talk about spawn of the devil!
Thank gawd I’m represented by my diva Loretta. ; )
I campaigned for Bill Durston. He ran against Lungren and did well considering he started a bit late and was underfunded. Bill is going to run against him the next time.
Mary McCurnin @ 74
Me neither.
Casino Royale was really good, and this song was but one of the reasons. I generally kind of think Bond is silly, but I thought this film was great.
TeddySanFran @ 70
Yep, I’m beginning to realize that now. : )
Contracting “Clean Break” Chaos in Iraq
Sunday November 26th 2006, 3:30 pm
Dick Fojut’s Are 70,000 Pentagon Mercs Killing Iraqis? (Is Grass Green?) is compelling enough to include here in total. But first, here’s the trailer from Shadow Company, a documentary concerning “contractors,” i.e., hired guns, in Iraq.
COULD (SOME OF) THE PENTAGON’S HIRED MERCENARIES BE REMOTELY DETONATING CAR BOMBS AND ASSASSINATING SUNNIS AND SHIAS - TO
PROVOKE A U.S./ISRAELI PLANNED CIVIL WAR THAT WILL DISMEMBER IRAQ?
—————-
SHADOW COMPANY (about a former “security contractor’s” book)…Excerpt only…
According to Robert Young Pelton’s upcoming book Licensed To Kill: Hired Guns in the War on Terror, there are now over 70,000 armed men working as security contractors in Iraq.
(Book also reviewed by Amazon)…

1,340 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND..
Citizen kirk murphy:
The first time I flew inta SF was 1966 flyin in ta report ta Oakland ta get my ass shipped ta the jungle. I was soooo excited ta see the town of jazz and Al Ginsberg until I looked down and saw a DC9 layin off the end a the runway in the bay.
We dropped like a rock onto that little peninsula…it was jest trainin fer tree hoppin’ in C130’s but I didn’t know that. I have never flown in there since but I’ve driven a ton. Was the greatest place in the whole world until the turnover of Hong Kong turned it into a tourist museum.
KEEP THE FAITH AND TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER!!
Valley Girl @ 80
Thanks, Valley Girl… I think FDL is a blogosphere treasure! I read some of the posts here before, but this is my first time commenting here… You’re all soooo nice and welcoming. : )
VG - :~)
Share @ 79
Same fuckers that were sent into New Orleans post-Katrina.
punaise @ 69
We used to cut school and spend the day on the river. And we wouldn’t see another soul on that river the whole day. And the old Fair Oaks bridge was the only way across the river. No Watt Ave. bridge. You live on what used to be grape vineyards. We all did. One of my buddies and my first girl friend lived on Ambassador Dr. Too much.
atdnext @ 83
BTW, before you ask… Punaise started calling the quotes within quotes within quotes “ziggurats”. If they go on too long, they wreck the margins. That is what the “zig freed” comment was referring to.
punaise @ 68
Cameron Park.
Oklahoma kiddo
My gardens are full of wayward grapevines from the old days.
yeah he will, Coz @ 81!
how stoopid was and is this entire debacle???
the answers are legion.
al- Sadr may be an opportunist, but we had our own share of those among the first who invaded this continent, too.
I ain’t throwing stones tonight, or any night (I hope)
great song - great movie.
chris cornell is one of the unheralded heroes of the 90s.
and this new bond is probably one of the best bond movies ever made.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 88
thanks - I was going to wing it and guess…
Oklahoma kiddo @ 88
The McDonalds drive-throughs must be a motherfucker to design….
Valley Girl @ 87
OK, I’ll remember not to build too many “high rise ziggurats”.
Norske- looks like citizen Kirk might have finally caught his plane to SF. You are an FDL treasure too!
John Wayne Gacy Airport’s getting some laughs in our house right now!
707 !
TeddySanFran @ 95
I could just eat you up.
TeddySanFran @ 95
OMG, I’m ROTFLMAO now!
TeddySanFran @ 95
TSF- I need someone to explain the joke.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 86
ever going tubing down the Sacramento River near Chico?
Hope everyone who’s traveling tonight is traveling real safe.
‘cept BigTime. His safe travel ain’t my concern.
Oilfieldguy @ 56
So you were there recently? :)
Valley Girl @ 98
Mary McCurnin @ 31
? wing-assie?
egregious @ 101
silly. can’t you see he’s 56?
Valley Girl @ 103
Flyin’ in on an ass and a prayer….
John Wayne Gacy, Jr., (March 17, 1942 – May 10, 1994) was an American serial killer.
montag @ 92
Not to mention the Brew Thru.
punaise @ 106
He was such a clown.
punaise @ 99
Oh yeah. Pioneer Days and Bidwell Park too. I lived in Paradise and went to school and work in Chico and my soon to be wife came up from Rancho on the weekends. She lived on Coloma Rd.
punaise @ 104
I see the young man with a gleam in his eye.
egregious @ 107
W’all, who knew there was a Brew Thru in Flew-Fru…. :)
hmmm… I guess it’s one of those jokes that’s funny if you don’t have to have it explained to you… like Booth cartoons in NYer (which I loved). (referring to the John Wayne airport)
Mary McCurnin @ 108
He dressed up as a clown and went to children’s b’day parties.
